Why do they have to cut them? There is no good reason to do so. When they start making changes to the show it screws it all up! Come on, really? The producers are lame.......
Emily Prentiss is such a good character and could be amazing if the writers gave Paget Brewster some more/better story-lines to get her teeth into. JJ's Character has been limited by the Will/Henry aspect but AJ Cook makes the most of the role and really shines. It would be a crime to axe these two characters - a shame to both the actresses and fans of Ciminal Minds.
I'm still in shock and disgusted that they would cut two of our wonderful actresses. Do that to AJ, Paget and fans is totally not justify, they'll just loose more people who watch. I love this show but without AJ and with less Paget I'll don't continue watching it.
I can not understand this decision, and do want to have any explanation. Why starting a spin-off and cancel to character of the first show? If the spin-off is as bad a most of the spin-off, I suggest to continue doing only one good show with all the actor than spliting the original idea and get a mediocre show... I am feeling bad of AJ and Paget and for all the rest of the CM team. Hugs French Fan Carine
Criminal Minds is DVR'd every week on my TV. The group ensemble and relationships as well as the crime drama keeps me interested week to week. I have enjoyed the fact that AJ's character is in love with a new baby. I like Prentises disfunctional relationship with her Mother. I like ALL the personal private life stories behind the main weekly story. The RELATIONSHIPS keep me coming back. I can get crime drama anywhere. This is like NCIS=at home, comfortable, inticing, good writing, relationship/family show. Do not change what is not broken. THIS HAS UPSET ME AND MY ADULT CHILDREN. Shoot, I even twittered and Facebooked about it.:o(
Are CBS execs insane?! Why on earth would you mess with the cast of a great show that has very good ratings as it is?
It's not even the slightest bit believable that cutting A.J. Cooke's salary, and severely slashing Paget Brewster's salary, would make a noticeable difference to the bottom line profit at CBS. If CBS is truly doing that poorly, then perhaps the Criminal Minds spin-off shouldn't have been considered. Time to put a hold on the spin-off, maybe - and keep the CM cast intact... since that's the show that has all the viewers already.
It's not too bright to antagonize the cast and viewer fans of the existing show with good ratings for a not-yet-proven show. What will CBS do when the fans of original CM choose - in anger and/or disgust - not to watch the new spin-off show?
I hope the execs at CBS will reconsider this bone-headed move before it's too late, before they kill a perfectly good show with such foolishness - never mind ruining another new show with potential before it even airs.

I can't quite believe it. What would posses them to think that getting rid of two of the best actresses on TV from there show is a good idea? Trying to make Criminal Minds into a male dominated show would be a very big mistake. You NEED the girls to provide stability and balance to the team! Getting rid of the females seems rather sexist in my opinion. They are just as valuable, if not more so, than the men.
A show is only as good as its characters and to get rid of two of the best STRONG female characters is ludacris. No offence to Garcia, but Emily and JJ show us that girls can kick butt too! Scrap the idea of a new female character and keep AJ. Get less well known guest stars (who are generally the better actors in my opinion) and let us keep Paget a regular.
I don't think I'll be watching next season if they won't be there. I feel a bit sick to be honest. Its an insult to women everywhere. As a teenager I admire the girls, especially Emily. She shows us all what determination really is. And JJ? Its nice to have a working mother on TV - you don't see many of those. Its like CBS is saying that girls are not 'good enough' to be profilers. WRONG! JJ and Emily prove this point. The real BAU has female agents - its an insult to them too. This is the 21st century for crying out loud - equal rights CBS, or have you forgotten that in your quest to create a 'boys club'? Have you forgotten that the majority of your fanbase are actually women? We're not always the damsels in distress. We are just as tough as the boys.
Don't get rid of them. Find another way to save money (scrap the spin-off, scrap Charlie Sheen) just don't scrap two of the best characters on television.
so they want to get some other female on criminal minds and they are cutting aj man i tell right if they leave i leave...they should cut the spin off and keep aj and paget this totally sucks
With all affection, an angry fan like many others in the world. I love you Paget and AJ. and Criminal Minds.
No There Criminal Minds without Paget and AJ. They are favorites among fans of the series, are my favorites. Can not get them out of CM will be the end. Please, save our Girls, NO CM without the Ladies Paget and AJ.
Criminal Minds IS @JoeMantegna, @Gibsonthomas, @GUBLERNATION, @ajcookofficial, @pagetpaget, @Vangsness, and Shemar...NO MORE, NO LESS CBS!!! Please keep the group together, not separate a family that is so long with us, it's sad to think that a wonderful series will be destroyed as well, for nothing. the fans cheer for that not to happen. we hope. only men not funny, I'm serious. all the fans waiting for answers for what is happening, and hoping that they are all together.
"I'll do whatever it takes to turn this around, I know whats at stake .. I'll keep us together whatever it takes" #SaveTheCMLadies.
I'm so pissed! When i first heard this I was shaking because JJ is my fave character and the show will certainly never be the same without her. I cannot believe this and think that this is the most stupid decision that CBS will ever make and has ever made!!!! This is sexist (because of the cutting back of Paget which is also ridiculous!) and I hope that CBS realizes this and takes everything back to normal. Shame on everyone who made this HORRIBLE decision!
This decision still baffles me. I'm holding out hope that the people in charge will realize what a huge mistake it is and undo it. If not, it pains me to say, but I'll no longer be watching.
Hello from Paris : I am very disappointed about the bad news of the departure of Jenifer Jarreau !!! the team is wonderful like that!!! I hope that CBS will change its opinion about this!!!! the "spin off" does not have interest for us... We love the team of "Crimina Minds" !!! keep it !!! I am so angry! it's a shame !!! restriction ??? and a spin-off is coming ! what is the real problem ??? the three actresses are so wonderful and very useful too !!!petitions are in progress and a lot of fan sign them ! great great great !!!
Just couldn't give Criminal Minds fans a peaceful summer, could you CBS? The cliffhanger was very good, but one doesn't get the sense that Morgan is in any immediate danger (as opposed to previous cliffhangers). This unbelievable news COMPLETELY came out of the blue and is NOT what the fans want whatsoever. This was a "creative decision"??? Wow. CBS must really think we're stupid. How in the hell do they think it's "creative" to piss off their viewers?? If this is just a marketing ploy to get fans talking about CM, & it turns out AJ & Paget weren't actually being axed I'll sue CBS for pain & suffering.
I just wrote this as a complaint to CBS and will now send it to each and every person that Lena listed in one of her earlier posts. Thank you so much, Lena! We really appreciate it!
Dear CBS,
I'm writing to you to let you know that I am thoroughly disappointed with your decision to cut AJ Cook and give Paget Brewster only limited screen time, no matter whether it's for financial reasons of creative differences.
We, the fans of Criminal Minds, do not watch the show for it's gory pictures and creepy details but for the amazing and dedicated team that leads us through each and every case. This team in its formation as it is now is the essential part to the success of the show. I'm writing to you from Germany to show you that fans from ALL AROUND THE WORLD are astounded at the fact that you don't seem to see this.
Not only will their departure mess with the way we see the rest of the team. Having them leave the show also deprives us of seeing two tough female characters managing not only to survive but live up to the challenges that a male dominated world presents us with.
This is the team that makes the show what it is - successful and unique. It has been a major success for five years and never ever needed the excessive advertisement that other - more expensive and less captivating - shows desperately needed. Why do you think that is? Because AJ Cook and Paget Brewster are part of a cast that is inspiring in its own way. Watching AJ Cook's character Jennifer Jareau do the job she does has inspired me to pick up a new career path and I'm grateful for that. Paget Brewster shows us in her part as Emily Prentiss that women can indeed live up to the demands of a job that is mainly taken up by men. She emblematizes the strength of an amazing female character.
Moreover, both women are unbelievably talented, gifted and dedicated actresses that very obviously love what they're doing. In each and every episode you can see them play their parts with utter commitment. They are members of a cast that is - especially now - willing to support each other at all costs.
The show depends on the entire team and cutting both out of the show - and especially without giving serious thought about granting AJ Cook a proper exit - only to maybe add a new character is plain stupid because it will result in loosing a major part of the viewers. Including me, that's for sure.
The writers have been doing an amazing job over the last years of giving each character a fitting and developing storyline. No creative differences or financial cuts can be severe enough to risk loosing a major fanbase, not only in the US but worldwide. Joe Mantegna has just came back from promoting Criminal Minds in Europe. Just ask him, he'll tell you how much we love it! If that isn't enough for you you can find our support on petitions, on blogs, Twitter and all over the rest of the worldwide web.
I sincerely hope that you will rethink your decision because it will have huge ramifications for your network.
I'm shocked: this is the worst, silliest and more sexist idea they could have. I'm a great fan of MGG but I really love them too: they are so beautiful and talented! CBS guys are male chauvinist and so unbelievably ungrateful: I can't believe they have invested money in that pointless spinoff! All my support to AJ and Paget! Camilla from Italy.
This is a huge mistake. The show is already in creative decline because the writing for Season 5 has been quite poor. What people keep coming back for is the characters that they know and love and how they gel as a team. CBS is just not getting it. The fans don't want a spinoff, and we want the CM cast to stay exactly as it is. I sincerely doubt that CBS needs to save money, but they can do that easily by cancelling the spinoff and leaving the Original CM cast alone.
I seem to have an uncanny gift for predicting the success of a show and I can tell you without a doubt that if you get rid of AJ and Paget, I give Criminal Minds 6 months and your dreadfully awful spin off 1 month.
Good luck on trying to work this in the script. Your writers have their work cut out for them!
I'm soooo pissed because I really love Matthew Gray Gubler and I'll be really sad to see the show get cancelled.
The best place to take this is to the advertisers. Let them know the CM base that CBS is counting on the back the spin-off is going to boycott the spin-off. If CBS is concerned about dollars, hit them where it makes the most sense.
A.J is one of the most beloved characters on tv today...I have loved her since dead like me...I have no clue what they were thinking when they decided to fired her...and to limit Paget is like more then evil...if they go through with this I wont be watching criminal minds..I just cant...
Losing AJ and sidelining Paget is going to ruin the show. The guys are great, but the relationships and interactions between ALL the characters are why I watch. If this goes ahead I'm highly unlikely to be watching next season.
I have an idea. Remember when "Jericho" fans bombarded CBS with peanuts in protest of their cancellation of that show? It gained national attention and as a result, CBS brought the series back.
We need to do this again. We need to send a message to CBS to protest their decision to cut two strong female characters from one of their best shows, by sending something that speaks clearly our intention that if they carry through with this plan, they will lose a huge fan base of viewers.
My suggestion is this: LIPSTICK. Everyone mail lipstick to CBS and tell them if they eliminate AJ Cook and Paget Brewster from the "CM" line-up, they can KISS their viewers goodbye.
Even if you don't wear lipstick, you can pick up a tube at a dollar store. That and postage is all it will cost you. But think about the cost to your entertainment, in the long run.
If you're in agreement with this, then join me in sending this message to CBS! Here's the address:
CBS Headquarters 51 W. 52nd Street New York, NY 10019-6188
I am the mother of a teenage daughter, and finding a show we both love is hard enough, but to find one with strong lead female roles is wonderful.... So instead of having these two intelligent, inspiring characters for my daughter to look up to, I guess you can save some money and put Snooky into AJ Cooks role (you just need to provide her with a limitless orange tanning supply) and put Kim Kardashian into Paget Brewsters' place (just have a wide angel lense to fit all of her assets into the frame) !!!
Please do not hurt all of your loyal fans by following through on this obviously unwise decision. I will not stop watching this show, I love it too much, but if you take these beloved characters away to save money I will not let you profit by my watching your new spin-off.
Isn't CM one of the TV shows with the highest ratings? If you want to save money, how about going for the lowest rating shows? Simple common sense, isn't it?
JJ has been there since day one and the addition of Prentiss (and Rossi) only made the team (and the show) so much stronger and better.
If you want to save money, put Penelope Garcia back behind the scenes as originally planned. She is there to provide tech support and nothing else. They want to put her at the same level as the rest of the team but she is not. (Sorry Team Garcia).
The recession is hitting everyone hard, what the hell CBS leave the only entertainment we have alone!!!
One of the things I love most about CM is that I can not choose a favorite cast member. I enjoy them all. It's not a 'guys' cast or a 'girls' cast. It's a cast filled with great actors, great characters.... I hope so much that cbs does not make these cuts. I don't understand how one of the most watch, top rated, viewer favorite shows can be hurting for money so badly they need to cut two very important characters.
JJ gives this show a 'this is how I would feel' feel. She is the one who sees things how the non-pros would see them, the one we viewers relate to.
Prentiss is the former bad girl all us female viewers wish we were. She's tough, and some of the best one-liners on the show have been hers.
I just hope they get wise soon and realise what a huge mistake they are making.
This is really stupid they are cutting the majority of women in criminal minds. why would you make a spin-off if you couldnt afford to keep the two fantastic actors who are Aj & Paget? It wont be the same with out them and I think that you will loose alot of your viewers when you do this. you certainly will loose me! And you had such high rating..
What keeps me tuning in every week to CM is the chemistry of the whole cast of characters. They are all professionals doing a tough job, and they've become a family facing the horrors of their job together. I really enjoy their interactions with each other.
And the one thing that I appreciate most about how the female characters on CM are written and portrayed is that they are just as smart, tough, and professional as the men. They don't exist merely to be someone's love interest, which I'm betting that the new female character replacing JJ and Prentiss will be. If CBS wants to go that way, I won't be along for the ride, just as I stopped watching Without A Trace when it became just a soap opera about its main cast.
I started watching CM midway in its second season, so I missed Lola Glaudini's departure. I continued to support CM after Mandy Patinkin left because he wanted to go voluntarily. I will not support CM if CBS forces AJ Cook or Paget Brewster (or any other cast member) to leave unwillingly. They do an excellent job and their female characters provide a much needed balance against all the testosterone and violence on the show.
No. This is not all right. It is a) misogynistic to cut most of the female part of the cast, b) idiotic to mess with a show where the chemistry between the characters (and actors) are a huge, huge part of why the show works so well, c) disrespectful to fans and actors alike to make such unnecessary and just plain mind-boggling decisions.
The people in charge of the show should reconsider this, or they will lose many fans - just look a the internet response if you have any doubt. A vast majority of the people who care about this show - the fans, the core of the viewers - do not like this decision. Why not cancel the spin-off instead of doing this to the original? If anyone thinks that we'd rather have a subpar spin-off than keep the original show as it is, they are sorely mistaken.
I certainly know that should the people in charge stick to this decision, I will no longer be watching the show, supporting it by buying dvds, or supporting it in any other way. I have no interest in watching a show that prefers a blatantly misogynistic message to keeping talented actors on board. Shame on those who made this decision. But maybe my opinion does not count because I happen to be female. I certainly wouldn't be surprised it that was the case, considering the arrogance of this misguided decision.
This is bs! Sorry to use language, but that's how I feel. If CBS has any sense, they'll realise that by doing this they'll be losing a huge amount of viewers, and lose all the money they were trying to "save' by cutting AJ and Paget. Why ruin a brilliant show to fund a ridiculous spin-off that nobody is going to watch? I don't want to watch Forest Whittaker, I want to watch AJ and Paget! If CBS goes ahead with this brainless decision, they'll definitely be losing one very angry viewer here!
I am completely and utterly against this! This has to be one of the worst decisions in television history! I cannot fathom what could have possibly possessed them to cut ANY cast member, let alone TWO of the THREE females, and the one they are keeping has the least screen time of any of the cast members. In such a PC (politically correct) world, I'm amazed that this idea is even being viewed as legitimate.
If they are doing this to have money for the spin-off, cut the spin-off. No one wants it anyway. People were only going to watch it to be polite to Criminal Minds. This is unacceptable.
I will simply NEVER understand the thinking of network executives. The cast of Criminal Minds are all damn good actors and they work so well together that it defies logic to screw with such a great mix. And while I absolutely think that getting rid of one character and cutting the contribution of another is a massive error, to single out two female characters smacks of sexism. Television needs more strong female characters, not less. And to think of all female charcters as being interchangable is a slight to the writers that created the characters, the actors that brought them to life and to the fans that have been watching the show all this time.
CBS realized, AFTER 5 SEASONS, that JJ and Emily have not the same followers of the other characters??? but hey CBS, are you sure you're watching the right show??!! if money is the problem, then why producing a spin-off, firstly, that does NOT guarantee to be successful, instead of supporting a perfect-working series !
I am sooo upset about this and the people who I have told about it feel the same way. Emily and JJ are too of the two best female characters on televison. Their smart, beautiful and confident as are the wonderful actresses that bring the roles to life.I can't imagine the show without them and do not want to imagine the show without them. I wish and hope the network re thinking their decison. Otherwise they will have many heartbroken fans
I really don't want to see less Prentiss & no JJ :( I was drawn to the show in the first place because I loved how the women were portrayed as strong & intelligent. I'm a 19 year old girl, from a small town where even in 2010, it's rare for women to stay in education after the age of 16. I just finished my first year at university, but I often wonder if a career will be worth the sacrifices I've had to make. I know it's 'only a show', but these successful characters & actresses are role models for girls like me. Please don't take that away from us CBS! You're awesome AJ & Paget, I wish you both the best whatever happens, thanks for being so great! xx
Since Nina Tassler and the rest of CBS think that what they have done in firing AJ Cook and dropping Paget Brewster to limited episodes for season 6 is perfectly ok only to bring in a different female actress (younger I am sure) I will no longer sell CBS dvds of any kind in my store. I am disappointed with the sexist behavior of CBS. Shame on you!
no puede ser posible!!! como van a quitar del programa a jj y prentiss... mis personajes favoritos!! el programa no seria lo mismo... es la PEOR DECISION...
This is ridiculous! I don't know if I can handle losing JJ and Emily...they're walking on shaky ground...and I think I might be needing a new crime show...
Isn't CM one of the TV shows with the highest ratings? If you want to save money, how about going for the lowest rating shows? Simple common sense, isn't it? Maybe this concept is just too complicated for you execs to understand!!
JJ has been there since day one and the addition of Prentiss (and Rossi) only made the team (and the show) so much stronger and better.
If you want to save money, put Penelope Garcia back behind the scenes as originally planned. She is there to provide tech support and nothing else. (Team Garcia, you still rock!)
The recession is hitting everyone hard, what the hell CBS leave the only good entertainment we have alone!!!
I've signed the petition and just wrote a long complaint to CBS on their website. Phone calls will be made next. I can't believe how ridiculous CBS is being. I want to know who's behind this decision. The producers or the network? If any of them having any brain cells, they will listen to we irate and ex-Criminal Minds fans.
we dont want new females on Criminal minds! By doing this your not only affecting your popularity but also the success of the show and its actors. I love all the cast of Criminal minds cause with all there differences they all blend in well together and by doing this your allinating the female viewers who dont want to be the ones constantly saved. We want someone representing us as they kick down doors telling us women are just as strong and Aj & Paget do that well. It's alot of pressure to put on Kristen Vagness your putting all the womenly duties on her shoulders.
Prentiss can be just as bad ass as the boys can. I'm very disappointed in CBS for this decision. It seems like such a sexist decision. While I love Garcia and don't mean any disrespect to the character, the fact that the only female cast member is one who sits in a room full of computers instead of out in the field.
One of the reasons I like this show is the strong personalities and strong characters of the women on this show. Women should be presented as more than just victims and Prentiss and JJ's characters do exactly that. They're important to the show and I'm not sure that I will continue to watch. I don't want to see another "male-centric, male-dominated" show. I want to see a show with women who are just as strong as the men and a show with male characters who actually respect their female colleagues and CM was that show.
How about instead of cutting cast members on one of the best shows on TV, lets not have a spin off that people are still wondering what exactly it was about.
The more time I have think about this, the more I want to scream and kick something!! CBS has got to be kidding! AJ tweeted a thanks to her fans for the support...now there is a woman with class, unlike CBS..who is classless. Keep chugging on everyone, we gotta show CBS we are not gonna take this and that they are gonna regret it! We love you AJ and Paget...stay strong!
Imagine an impressionist painting. Then take out two of the colors used in it.
Hardly bears resemblance to the original, does it?
That's what CBS is doing to the chemistry of this show, and the complementary voices expressed through the characters of AJ Cook and Paget Brewster.
The bean counters don't seem to get it that a pile of pennies does not a successful show make.
Way to go, CBS. Death by a thousand cuts. I will miss this show so much. Whatever you're planning to put on the air this fall, it won't really be Criminal Minds.
I saw this in one of the earlier posts, and I absolutely LOVE this idea, so I'm plugging it:
My suggestion is this: LIPSTICK. Everyone mail lipstick to CBS and tell them if they eliminate AJ Cook and Paget Brewster from the "CM" line-up, they can KISS their viewers goodbye.
Even if you don't wear lipstick, you can pick up a tube at a dollar store. That and postage is all it will cost you. But think about the cost to your entertainment, in the long run.

I hope that everyone who has commented here has signed the petition. http://www.petitiononline.com/cmwomen/petition.html
Why try to fix something that's not broken? The team is PERFECT. I can't tell you how much I would miss any one member of the team if they were ever cut from Criminal Minds. I think this decision is absolutely ridiculous. Do you not see the signatures on the petition, CBS? WE DON'T WANT ANY DAMN CHANGES. We don't WANT a new female cast member, we want Emily and JJ!
I want to say this loud and clear and I hope the cast members hear me. I love Criminal Minds. Matthew Gray Gubler, Reid is my favorite character ever. Joe Mantegna, KEEP BEING YOUR BADASS SELF! I will not abandon any of you and stop watching Criminal Minds. I love the show too much for that. But, if CBS does decide to ax the ladies, I will always think about what asshats they are and I know I'm not the only one.
I suppose it's good that I'm in shock. Because if I wasn't, I wouldn't be able to get through the day without punching someting. What the f*** are you thinking, CBS? What do we have to do to be get you to leave Criminal Minds alone?! You don't advertise it, you don't promote it, but it still does well. Well, damn, that just shouldn't be happening, should it? So you chop off another body part. Christ.
First of all, I'm simply sick and tired of you f***ing around with our show. You don't promote or advertise the show. You fire our writers. You try to fire our leader. And now you're trying to get rid of our WOMEN?! When does it end?! Why don't you just fire all of our actors and scrap the show all together? JJ, Emily and Garcia have been JUST as badass as the boys for every second they're on screen! You want them to be MORE badass?! Then write them that way, don't get rid of them!
The thing is, JJ has often been ignored or treated like crap throughout the show. Why? I don't know. She is great at her job, yet she's not given the opportunity to shine. There are many great storylines that could center around her that DO NOT involve her being a mother! If you can't come up with them yourselves, ask us! We'll tell you, gladly! Because she's a great character, we've loved her from the start, and she doesn't deserve this. AJ doesn't deserve this. She's been great from the start, too - what has she done to you?
And what about Paget Brewster? Prentiss keeps up with the boys every step of the way. She could probably take on Morgan and Hotch, and she could MOST DEFINITELY kick Reid's ass - so why does she get the cut? She's one of your toughest characters. Oh wait, she's a WOMAN...
Which brings me to my next problem... WHY are you cutting the WOMEN?! Do you realize how sexist that looks? Why are you insisting on turning Criminal Minds into an Old Boys' Club? The women play their part every episode, and they do it well - they are loved, by US, the fans, and by THE TEAM. They are part of the team, 100%. We've been over this with you before - the team is what makes the show. Not the serial killers, not the blood and guts, THE TEAM. These women are part of that team. A big part. You lose them, you lose the team, you lose the show. And me as a viewer.
In addition, remember that poll we had here a while back? Ed Bernero wanted to know who we wanted backstory on this season - Hotch came out on top. He came out on top because as fans we were terrified of losing him - he's our Unit Chief, our leader, our lodestone. But did you even bother to look at who came in right after Hotch? If you had, you would have seen JJ and Emily. You would have known that they are considered just as fascinating, just as important, just as amazing, as the guys on the show. Why can't you see that?!
If it's budget cuts, well f*** that. Criminal Minds has done great work on minimal cost, compared to what you spend on some of your other shows!
You want budget cuts? Why don't you cut some of CSI's operating budget. Cut Laurence Fishburne's salary. Oh, here's an idea: SCRAP THE SPIN-OFF. You have money for a spin-off that won't be half as good as the original, but you don't have money to keep our women on board? You have money to bring on a NEW CHARACTER?! We don't WANT a new character. This show doesn't NEED "revitalizing", "shaking up", "rearranging", whatever you want to call it. It NEEDS ITS TEAM. This show is GREAT. Just LEAVE IT ALONE.
If AJ and Paget go, even just a little bit; if you get a new cast member; I'm gone. And I'll never watch CBS again. Because this is complete and utter bullshit. I'm sick of it. I don't need to go through this every year, when you decide to knock us down again and kick us around for fun. This is it.
Everyone needs to write CBS! Fill up their inbox with complaints! Go to their website, scroll to the bottom and click on feedback! This is terrible news! Don't just post here...post here, and on the petition and send e-mail to CBS, and anything else you think of! If we keep this going "loud" CBS will have no choice but to hear us and respond!
It's for financial reasons, yet CBS is replacing AJ? Does anyone else remember how much the fans hated her temp replacement when she went on maternity leave? And they knew she'd be back! Whoever they're going to get to replace AJ is going to be disliked big time. Which means a drop in fans majorly. Well either way there will be a drop in fans. You may as well cut the show now. If you wanted to save money, cut the spin off. As far as I was aware the only reason ppl were interested in watching the crossover ep was due to the Brittish guy being into Prentiss. Not many ppl are that keen to watch it. I just can't understand why CBS would want to get rid of two very talented actors that fans are attached to. It's just ridiculous. CBS, you're going to lose a lot of fans, which won't help the financial side of things.
It's beyond ridiculous and shameful. They are sensational actresses and completely irreplaceable to the ensemble cast. This move will only hurt the show overall and alienate dedicated fans.
CBS has screwed up multiple times this year. I do NOT want to add CM to that list of failures!
These two actresses are talented. They add zest to the show. Everyone has such a great dynamic on the show. They're like the meant-to-be team. And the show will never be the same without these two wonderful ladies..
My advice for CBS? Cut the CM spin-off. At least till next year or the year after that. Focus on the original first. You gotta have a good foundation, CBS. Common sense.
This is beyond outrageous and disgusting. If this is how CBS treats women in the 21st century I want to forget this network even exists. They can go back to their sexist Middle Ages! As a woman I'm insulted by this action and they just lost a viewer here. I will never endorse such a ridiculous decision and such an ungrateful network.
This show and these ladies brought you loads of money and all you have given in return was bad treatment. Enough is enough CBS! Stop this madness right now before you tear this show to pieces. And when Charlie Sheen goes into rehab/jail again I guarantee you'll be also tearing your hair out!
Get AJ back on the show and give Paget full time contract! That's what these viewers want from you, that's the product we pay you to deliver! No more, no less!
Honestly, where the F is Ed Bernero?!?!? So when Mandy stabbed hi in the back, leaving him crying in the corner, he was all over the fans, but now that we need him more, he is gone? Wow, amazing! Bloody amazing! What should we expect from CBS if not even the producer is trying to reassure the fans that he is, at least, trying?
Whatever, if Paget Brewster is gone, so am I. I started watching because of her, and I am going to stop once she leaves. I love TG, I do, but Paget is the main reason I watch.
And yes, CBS, keep giving young girls just the right message. Slap amazing actresses that give young girls confidence and a good role model, and pay million of dollars to a drug addict that has to be in jail for hitting his own wife... talking about cavemen.
Sincerely, An enrage fan that wishes you bankruptcy, or at least, a lot of personal pain.
To upset the formula of a show as successful as Criminal Minds by cutting the cast just doesn't make sense. It's simply a lousy business decision. The ratings for CM are great, so why mess up a proven formula that obviously works? As hard as it is for a network to get a hit show, you would think CBS would do everything possible to keep it that way. No one seems all that interested in the spinoff, myself included. Most of the time spinoffs aren't worth watching. It's clear that viewers are fiercely loyal to this show and its characters, and CBS needs to realize that if they want to keep thier network successful, they need to continue to invest in this quality show and take their cost cutting measures elsewhere.
I stuck through with hopes that this upcoming season would make up for the lackluster episodes played last season. After a season of mixed reviews this past season and absolutely no character building for the cast it would be a shame to loose the strong female leads we have grown to relate to. And to suggest they are going to replace them is unfathomable. The audience has already tolerated a JJ replacement and a general sigh of relief was had when AJ came back to her role.Has CBS stopped to realize that a female view on CM cases are something that cant be replaced by an all male cast. Paget&AJ bring different dynamics and views that women watching can more easily relate to. CBS better rethink this giant mistake.
I can't believe that they are not planning on renewing A.J.'s contract and that they plan on cutting Paget down to part time. Two of the major female roles, played by two wonderful actresses. Find other ways to cut the budget if they need cutting. The show will not be the same without them. I am not even sure that I would continue to watch.
When did CBS become NBC? And what exactly does one have to be on to think that cutting 2/3 of the female cast on a successful show is a good idea?
Seriously, though, I'm not going to say that nothing should ever change on a show. Characters should be given opportunities to grow, and sometimes there is a logical place where a characters story would conclude. However, this is so not one of those times. There is still plenty of room for the characters to grow, and for a show where the "team" aspect is so important, why would you cut 28% of the team--to say nothing of the unfortunate implications of the fact that the cuts are being made only to the female members. Now don't get me wrong, the male characters are awesome (and I may or may not have a small Reid obsession), but for a show that had done a good job of portraying strong female characters, to essentially eliminate your female field agents is a terrible idea.
Even if this is financially motivated, there has to be better ways that could be dealt with--like don't make a spin off of CM when you can't afford to pay your current cast.
CM without AJ and Paget would not be the same. I know the show has survived cast changes before, but for CBS to screw them and there fans over like this is, as Paget said, bullshit.
I've watched the show from the beginning because I'm a huge AJ Cook fan. I look forward to it every Wednesday and watch lots of the episodes on A&E and ION. I love the show.
At the 100th episode party AJ hoped the series would last another 100 and that it was like a family on the set and it was such a blessing to have Ed steer the ship. I do not believe she left on her own. I believe she loves the cast and the show.
I am terribly disappointed. Maybe such an outpouring of support, love, and anger at CBS will wake them up.
Replacing one hot female with another will not work. It takes a long time for fans to warm up to characters.
Without AJ, I will find another show. CBS will be history in this house.
To AJ. You are very talented and you will land on your feet. Keep your spirits up and take care of your family.
I am so enraged that I filed a complaint on CBS website: To the people who are taking A.J Cook and Paget Brewster off "Criminal Minds:" Do you realize what you are doing to a PERFECT televsion show? You're breaking it. And lately, shows that are broken have no chance of being fixed. In fact, the minute you drop those two actresses who have done nothing but help the show create a solid fanbase, I guarantee that over half of your dedicated fans who are the reason you are so popular will immediately stop watching and you will lose ratings. I implore you to please change your minds about what you are doing to one of the best television shows this world has seen. One of the many dedicated and soon to be former fans, MK
this is a terrible, terrible decision. JJ is such a wonderful character, and ever since Emily came to the show, i've been liking her character more and more, with each episode. its just not right to remove them from the show, even to push them to the side. it won't be the same without them.
CBS, don't do this. you're going to lose so many viewers.
YOU FREAKING SUCK CBS !!! How the HELL could you do this? ! The cast was PERFECT with PERFECT chemistry and YOU screwed it all up! And here I thought CBS was the better network. I was so WRONG. I'm sorry for thinking you were better then this! AJ and Paget help make the show what it is dont ruin it!! You're soon to be former fan, Lisa
I'm another fan who isn't happy about this. Here's another series that will show women as a minority even though we make up half the population. Now I've lost all my excitement for the next season.
I don't think CBS realise just how attached we are to every wonderful character in this show. It is the only show where the female characters are strong and unique and not just sexed-up fantasies for the male portion of the audience; they are three dimensional and wonderful and unlike female characters in any other crime show. Let's face it, the spin-off will certainly not have the audience or interest that the original has because its characters and plot are not as good, simple as. If CBS are so hell-bent on saving money, they can reduce Charlie Sheen's fee for his appearance in a show in which he is no longer interested, a regurgitated and unoriginal sitcom. Or relieve one of the CSI shows of their characters, namely Miami or NY as their weekly ratings do not compare to those of Criminal Minds. Some of the amazing writers were already cut from the show, and if this butchering continues there will be little left in the show to miss. I am fuming at his decision. A.J. Cook is a wonderful actress and would probably be more popular if the writers were capable of giving her character a back story and good story lines. Paget Brewster is also a fantastic actress and reducing her air time is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. Emily Prentiss is part of the BAU, she is either involved in all of the cases or not. I am afraid that I will have to boycott CBS's shows and advertisers if this situation isn't rectified and I'm sure I will not be the only one. Both A.J. and Paget have my full support and I don't believe I will be able to watch the show for much longer if CBS continue with this charade.
I can't believe how callous CBS is with their actors and fans alike. You have no regard for what the viewing audience wants. You are smug and confident and it's insulting. What you did to those two fine actresses is insulting to women around the world. It's sexist. It's insulting. You have just made the second biggest in your history. You cancel Moonlight, a show that won a People's Choice Award. The fans outrage is still going on today for more. Now you fire two characters from one of your most popular shows. I say America should boycott CBS and turn their attention to ABC, NBC, Fox and CW.
One of my favorite aspects of CM is the way the women characters are handled. They're 3-dimensional characters, both feminine *and* competent (and anyone who likes female characters knows how rare that is. Usually a female character can be one or the other, but not both). The women of the show are shown to be friends, not backstabby or competitive or bitchy, and that, too, is a rarity. CM broke the usual crime procedural format of "all male/male with a token female field team+one woman behind the scenes/in the lab" to have JJ and Prentiss out and working in the field, and I, and many other female fans I know, love it that way.
I don't know where the hell this idea of CM as a "guys show" came from. What the fuck? My mother loves it. I love it. My brother likes it, and my husband doesn't so much. So in my immediate circle, it's the women's show. Drop these two core female characters, and you lose huge amounts of cred with female viewers and the men around those women who take their opinions seriously.
If someone had to be cut for financial reasons (and, really? They're willing to cut characters from an established show with a strong fan base to support a spin-off?? What kind of stupidity is that???) why not cut either Hotch or Rossi? They're redundant. Surely the show doesn't need two "dominant male leader" types. So why were the women first on the chopping block?
To hell with this. They go through with it, I'll no longer be watching, and nor will the rest of my family.
I am very upset. The entire reason I watch Criminal Minds is because of the cast - I love the chemistry they have, and ALL of the cast are indispensable.
I am particularly disappointed that they thought cutting two out of the three main female cast members was a good idea. It's sexist, plain and simple. There is such a lack of strong, well-written female characters on television, and I think Criminal Minds having three of the strongest, most well-written female characters we have seen on TV was a big part of its draw.
I watch the show for AJ, Paget, and Kristen. Without AJ and Paget, I won't be watching.
This is SO wrong! Criminal Minds without A.J. or Paget just wouldn't be the same! I think CM would loose so many fans that watch the show. Hope they keep them both. Im so hurt, I think I've never been this broken hearted BY A TV SHOW! God, it's not even a boy it's a show! (my fav. show btw, but anyways without A.J. of Paget it would just SUCK) IM SO ANGRY, HURT and SAD. Paget is my favorite person in the entire universe, and even though Im not a fan of A.J., when I saw the breaking news "A.J. has been cut from Criminal Minds" I had this effin pain or whatever irrational feeling this is. and ugh when I read that they were reducing Paget....I totally wanted to cry and kill the bastards that made that STUPID decision!
This is absolutely ridiculous. I am definitely not one of those radical feminist types who views everything as an attempt to hold women down, honestly people like that drive me absolutely insane, but in this one instant, I do have to say, this decision does seem incredibly sexist. Even if you are planning on trying to bring a new female character, NO BODY is going to want her!!! We want AJ and Paget, just as they are now. We don't want their roles reduced. Oh and that line you dropped about "creative reasons," that is complete BS!!! While the hell would you want to "freshen" up the show, when there is nothing wrong with it. I mean, I would get it if their characters were widely unpopular, but in case you haven't noticed, the fans love them!! I can guarantee you will more then likely lose at least half of your viewers and even the fans who continue to watch CM will most likely boycott the spin-off. No body wants the spin-off!!! Leave the original cast alone, we like it. You have a great thing going, don't screw it up!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for me, if you drop AJ, her last episode will be mine as well, and forget the spin off. In fact, forget any other shows I might have watched as well. I won't just boycott Criminal Minds, I'll boycott the whole network, and I know I'm not the only one.
I love Criminal minds, i really interest about serial killers, but without AJ Cook & Paget Brewster i'm not will continue watching it. Because one of the things which fascinate me was the amazing team - just like a family, and it will be to painful to see it broken. Please don't ruined the perfect team and the perfect show. Keep AJ Cook & Paget Brewster!!
If AJ Cook and Paget Brewster get reduced, I stop watching--I promise. The guys are fantastic and I adore KV, but the show is ruined without JJ and reduced/no Emily. Why can't CBS just leave a good thing alone? Nothing needed to be shaken up. It was wonderful and beloved as is.
I'll boycott CBS entirely, not buying dvds, or the CM game to come out in the fourth quarter.
Also, don't think that the "boys club" thing has gotten past me either. This is a sexist choice. Shame on you.
There's a reason Criminal Minds has so many fans-the great cast! Without JJ and Prentiss, it will lose much of it's magic. Please reconsider your decision!
What can I say that hasn't already been said? I love seeing strong, smart, capable women on tv and, unfortunately, there aren't many! I hate the thought of this show without JJ and Emily. The characters' relationships are key to CM's success. It's what keeps me coming back. CM is hard to watch sometimes because of the brutality of the crimes... AJ and Paget are a vital part of this ensemble cast. I hope CBS will reconsider. PLEASE KEEP THIS CAST INTACT!!
Skip the spin off. (wasn't impressed in spite of my love for Forest W.)
(Maybe a renegotiation of Sheen's contract would give them more money to work with? Cancel 2.5Men already, would ya? It jumped the shark 2 seasons ago and just isn't funny anymore.)
Criminal Minds is my favorite show, but without AJ and Paget signed on FULL TIME I won't be watching it anymore. Or the spinoff or other CBS shows for that matter. What they're doing isn't fair to AJ, Paget, and the fans!
This is just so wrong, they r main cast n we like them... Woman r impt to beautify n soften the whole show... a show with only mainly man is so weird...
Oh hey CBS, while you're at it, why not just kick Ziva and Abby off of NCIS?! MAYBE if you didn't put money into a spinoff that NO ONE IS GOING TO WATCH, you'd have the funds to keep TWO OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS ON YOUR SUCCESSFUL CRIME DRAMA. Good thing you want to fix something that ISN'T BROKEN. And where exactly are we sending these characters, you sexist bastards?! What, is JJ going to go off to babysit Hotch's kid or something?! On the episodes Prentiss isn't there, will she be off with her Angel-mother fighting crime for Charlie?!!!! SO RIDICULOUS.
I've been a fan of other shows before, LOST and Buffy the Vampire Slayer come to mind. And while I would count myself among the big fans of those shows, there is a huge difference for me between any of the other shows and Criminal Minds.
Yes, I have my favourite characters is Criminal Minds, Reid and Garcia, but this is the first time EVER that I do not have a LEAST favourite character!! Ever! Not one. Part of this is due to phenomenal writing, but the largest element at play is the actors! The actors play their parts magnificently, and they are all incredibly down to Earth. I follow them all on twitter (except Shemar of course) and I really feel as if I've gotten a better look at them than I ever could have hoped to with any other cast of any other show.
AJ Cook and Paget Brewster are incredible actresses and wonderful women. They don't deserve this. They don't deserve to be limited or cut out all together. JJ and Prentiss are excellent characters and to lose them will be incredibly sad.
This is a horrible decision on all accounts. There will be a loss of fans. There will be a drop in ratings. The fans, however, we will always be faithful in our love and support for the entire cast.
I will not watch Criminal Minds if they take off AJ OR reduce Paget's role. This is ridiculous. First a stupid spin-off, then this? What the hell are they thinking?
As a fan for a couple of years now, I can't afford to be quiet any more- to replace AJ and Paget with a new female character to "creatively" "refresh" the show is bullfeathers!
What are they supposed to write for the poor New Gal that they can't write for JJ or Emily?
I'm in shock, but I've signed the petition and sent a Request at the CBS site. I plan on sending in files, but other than keeping good thoughts for the them, I'm not sure what I can do. (Living in Dallas, I can't cook 'em something or give 'em a supportive hug. *sigh*) I just hope that CBS/ ABC Studios realizes that an all male group, for this kind of crime show, is just icky and inappropriate.
I am just so sad by this situation. It has been said over and over again but I will say it again. Why would CBS green light a procedural such as the spin off that has for the main part got a negative reaction from fans of the orig CM. There are so many people out there saying the cast has no chemistry and that it is miscast. Procedurals cost so much money to produce. So dont greenlight a show that really wont have much chance of surviving the season. Also. again it needs to be said that by cutting the strong female leads it sends a negative message. Women on CM are now only going to be cast as victims. After 5 seasons, the show should not be heading into a new direction. That is silly to do. Needless to say that both the spin off (notice that everyone is calling it the spin off and not by its title. See, we dont care enough to call it the correct name!)and CM will suffer a loss of viewers. Both shows will be cancelled at the end of the year. Maybe that is what CBS is going for.
Terrible decision. Period. The only CBS program I watch and you pull a fubar like this (f**ked up beyond all recognition for those who don't know). So much invested into a show and characters to then have you morons just dismiss viewers' opinions so you can (allegedly) save money. Thanks for ruining it for everyone. Because believe me, I'm a fan of the CM guys just as much as the next person, but now you've basically condemned them to be on a show that no one will watch anymore. Good going CBS.
The depths to which you idiots at CBS will stoop never ceases to amaze me. Congratulations.
I watch for the characters, not necessarily the individual case. So on this basis, EACH has a contribution to make and EACH is valued. Hotch may be my favorite, but that does NOT mean I will accept such a ridiculous ploy as to get rid of JJ and essentially, Emily.
I watch CM with my husband, and many times the plot line is pretty out there -- I guess it's hard to come up with a new monster every week. But, we don't watch for the monster's or the blood or to see victims tortured -- we watch because we love the team. They have developed a trust in each other - and we've watched that happen over the years/episodes. They'd all take a bullet for each other, and we enjoy watching them work the case together. JJ and Emily are the rudders - strong, very sensitive, but tough as nails when they need to be. I'd rely on them to rescue me from any bad guy. I can't imagine why anyone who actually watches the show (maybe there's the key) would consider taking apart such a powerhouse - to save money? And, the spin-off episode was so boring and so false - seriously, where did those people come from? A complete waste of Forrest W. Back to CM - I'm sure CBS can't afford to do this because of the female actresses who so superbly play JJ and Emily -- not when they just upped the salary of a male wife beater. But, you have to admit, it was a totally tone deaf move. How do these same lame people produce such a winning series? Accidentally?
I am about to take Criminology at University. One of the reasons I chose it was because I hope to become an FBI agent afterwards. I have found CM to be such a great show to demonstrate that you CAN make it as a woman in that industry. How are you going to do that now? And yes, you SHOULD care. I am really disappointed and sickened by your actions and hope they are reversed.
HUGE Emily Prentiss fan here. WTF are you doing???!!! Together with Hotch and Reid, these 3 are core! You just cannot do this!!! Even my husband, who puts up with my CM obsession, agrees! Bring back our women!
Why are you picking on the only show that I go out of my way to watch week in and week out??? Have you learned nothing from last year's little shot at our beloved Hotch? Now you're after our beloved Emily and AJ? Seriously, what is wrong with you all at cbs???! This program has brought you consistently great ratings against tough competition. This year it should also bring you (via TG) an Emmy. This team has shown it has wonderful rapport... that is what it takes for a show to last. But you keep cutting and cutting and cutting. Well look out because you've just hit the nerve that IS the CM fandom and we will 'cut' ourselves off from you! Just watch your ratings then! Cut the damn spin-off and use the saved $ to bring our ladies to full time again! Then go crawl into a dark hole and stay there!
This is one of the few shows on TV that has gotten rid of characters and has still remained afloat. That will definitely and drastically change if they decide to cut AJ and Paget. Its freaking ridiculous and I hope you CBS head honchos read this and realize what an idiotic move you're about to make.
If you reduce Emily's input, who is going to save Morgan's behind when he makes another hot-headed move? I'm so disappointed in TPTB right now... I wished I lived close enough to stage a protest outside all of your windows! Ever heard the Irish temper at work???! If you do not reinstate both of these fine actresses FULL TIME, you will be losing more viewers, this one included.
To cut two main characters from the show so you can do a spin off that most likely will not work because of this is just plain stupid. Also to announce it before telling the other cast members is just wrong and unrespectful. AJ has been there from the beginning and Paget since Season 2. The show will not be the same without them. I definitely will not be watching the spin off.
So if I gets this right, CBS is run by a woman, Nina Tassler, who prefer to give a boat load of money, 2 millions an episode, to Charlie Sheen who is a wife beater but will fire AJ Cook and reduce Paget Brewster screentime to save money???? That does not strike you as wrong CBS?
Well I, a loyal viewer, who happen to be a 28 years old woman, I think it is VERY wrong!
I will not watch CM and that dreadful spin off next season if AJ and Paget are not back!
I've been thinking about this since the news broke. If this was a "creative decision" or for "financial reasons," why was it that only the female roles were targeted? Do we need to see all of the male characters every week? Couldn't the same shake up occur with a new, young, male agent? (I don't actually want to see either of those things happen--I'm making a point.) There's no way that this doesn't read as sexist, especially when you couple that with the fact that this is the network that pays a staggering sum of money for a misogynist to basically play himself every week.
CBS--You want me to kiss off? I'm gone. Remember this when you have to explain to advertisers why the viewership took a such a nose dive next year.
I can't imagine CM without AJ and Emily. They add to the show. It is an excellent team of 7, and if it's the money to produce the spin off then don't do the spinoff, as I would rather see this team of people rather than the new show. And it really does not need to be all male, although I like all the men. Please keep all the cast members on CM!
As a fan of this show, and a long time fan of this network, I find the decision to eliminate and marginalize these two actors completely unacceptable. It sends a clear message that these women – two of only three in the permanent cast – are expendable; that as fans, we will accept their absence, from a show that has endeavored to make female characters just as strong and capable in law enforcement as the men they work with. All fans, and female fans especially, deserve to see women represented as something more than victims of violent crimes. It is also insulting to see that CBS believes that female characters are unimportant enough to be swapped out for different ones, to be named at a later date. It seems grossly inappropriate, considering that this network still chooses to stand behind Charlie Sheen, and makes a strong statement about the condition of CBS’ priorities. This decision strikes the heart of the fanbase that this team of writers, producers and actors have worked hard to establish over five years.
This situation begs the question: is the money to be made by making these drastic changes worth the loss of dedicated fans, who frequently make Criminal Minds the most successful and watched TV shows in its time slot? Our online petition has, at the time of this comment, reached over 15,000 signatures. We are organizing email campaigns, making phone calls, and using Twitter to contact official sources. It has come to my attention that the maintainers of CBS' official Facebook page are censoring messages of support for AJ and Paget, and I expected much better from a network of this caliber. We will continue to express our support for these two actors, so that this matter can be resolved in fairness to them, what they represent, and the fans who have made Criminal Minds a successful show.
I knew it!! As was predicted, the spin-off start to mess up w/ our show!! They have to save money! Don't touch the cast, they are perfect to us, AND THAT'S is what US VIEWERS WANT TO WATCH!! The fight SUCKS!! Cut the numbers of episodes of that spin-off (and can test the waters) and you will save the money you want, and hire BETTER writters, that's what need to be adjusted, not the cast!!!!
I am absolutely baffled. Why? Without A.J. and Emily this show will falter. They are integral parts of CM-they are the heart. They are examples of what strong women are all about. Again why?
P.S. In all honesty there is no need for a spin-off!
I began watching Criminal Minds because of Reid, but I stayed because of everyone. The characters on this show create a family that is unlike that of any other television show I have ever watched, and that is, in my opinion, its biggest strength. To completely cut out JJ, you lose the subtle ferocity and strength of heart that she brings. Prentiss is equally important and unique in that she is one of television's few female characters who hasn't become a sexed-up love interest of the boys, and who can hold her own in the field without losing her femininity.
One of the things I really love about Criminal Minds is that they have managed to have male and female characters who love each other without having sexual tension between them. What is this new "fresh" actress going to be, if not that?
I can't imagine a Criminal Minds without JJ and Prentiss if AJ and Paget didn't make the decision to leave on their own. As much as it pains me, and as much as I love everyone on the show, I will stop watching it, and any other CBS program, if this happens.
We need AJ and Paget! Garcia is a great character, but we need all three women to balance out the team. They are lovely actors and do a great job. I say "NO!" to getting rid of either of them!
This is an idiotic decision. AJ and Paget both bring incredible skill to CM. A single look from either of them can convey more than 3 pages of dialog ever could.
CM's success if because of the dynamics between the characters. This sets it far apart from the crime dramas on CBS and elsewhere. Messing with a successful team/cast will destroy the program.
I think what you guys are doing to the show is despicable. I will NOT be watching Minds 2.0 or whatever you guys decide to name it. I will say it once, and I will say it again, the cast of criminal minds is PERFECT. It does not need to change. It has gone through a lot with changes but I feel where we are not is a great place to be. Please do not change a show that I have grown to love. Don't fix what isn't broken. They are great actresses and add a nice level to the show. We do not need to see such great characters be booted off. It is an absolute disgrace.
I absolutely adore Paget Brewster's character and the actress! I simply cannot imagine the show without her and we all know she loves CM as much as we do! Please please please just cancel the spin-off that noone wanted in the first place and give this woman her full time status back!
How could they take out two very important characters who we all know and love? And how would this help the show? I don't know anyways it could help, but I know Criminal Minds will lose a ton of viewers from this horrible mistake. I also know I'll most likely stop watching this show, and I hope everyone knows that will be very hard for me. But as a result of them taking out these cast members, I will boycott this show. I truly hope people who are associated with this show are reading these comments and realizing that they need these talented actresses on the show, or it will die.
I would like to join the legions of Criminal Minds fans and express my shock and dismay at the dismissal of AJ Cook from the show, and the proposed reduction in Paget Brewster's role in the coming season.
I must admit that I started watching the show for Mandy Patinkin. However, I found that the show didn't really find its legs until Mandy's departure, because it gave the other cast members a chance to shine. "Penelope" was probably the episode where I saw the show develop into the fine ensemble production it is today. If you will recall, JJ's character played a pivotal role in that episode, and spoke the prophetic line "I didn't even blink. That's what we do for family" - well, that is what CM has become over the last three years.
Now you are talking about splitting up this family. In so doing, you will be destroying one of the few good shows left on network television. The cast members really do seem to work well together. I have never heard prima donna talk about any of them. And they have great chemistry. Plus, and correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't CM one of the highest rated shows on network television - continually landing in the top 10 even with repeats?
So many people have talked about how this decisions smacks of blatant sexism, and as a feminist, I have to say that I think the naysayers are correct. CM truly is a special show - because it speaks to so many people. Each of these characters speaks to a part of who we, the members of viewing audience, are. They are seemingly flawed people doing extraordinary things - things that we wish we could do - making the world a better and safer place. How many women, moms, see themselves in JJ and her struggle to be a good mother to Henry and do her job well? She is like a ray of sunshine in an otherwise very dark show. How many women fighting to make it in a man's world identify with Emily who seems to hold onto her sense of self while holding her own with the "big boys". How many of us women want to be like Garcia - who despite the fact that she is not your traditional beauty, has such a strong self esteem and inner serenity that we cannot help but love her. And these women are sisters - in every sense of the word.
So, I beg of you... please don't take our sisters away from us! You will destroy a beautiful, intelligent and engaging show - and you will send a message to a very large part of your target demographic that they do not matter. Is that really what you want to do?
My opinion? They should can the spin-off (seriously the ep where they introduced the characters/premise was BAR NONE THE MOST BORING CRIMINAL MINDS EVER), and keep AJ and Paget full time.
Word Verification: undned.
The Criminal Minds spin-off was undned upon arrival.
CBS...haven't you learned your lesson yet. You take a great show and make unnecessary changes and it goes to HELL!!!! I love the show and everyon on it. I will NOT watch the spinoff as they are obviously trying to finance that with AJ and Paget's salary. So sad that we are going to lose such a great show due to your ignorance and greed. But Hey...don't say you weren't warned!!!!
Having just heard of this outrageous cut, I cringe at the thought of next season. How can such influential characters be taken off the show?! The reason why people love Criminal Minds so much (at least the reason why I do) is because the agents are people that we can easily relate. JJ is a mother, yet does her job so well and manages such composure when being the communication go-between. Emily is WAYYYYY better than Elle, and has brought such personality to the show! I absolutely love her! To get rid of either of these characters would be such a heartbreak to the fans of CM. I mean...the BAU is a family. We bring that family into our homes to protect us during that hour. To get rid of part of the team is to get rid of part of the family...our family. Unacceptable. Furthermore, a very stupid idea.
It's ridiculous that they have the money to make a whole new spin-off but can't keep the original intact? The only reason a spin-off is possible is because the series regulars, especially AJ and Paget have been absolutely captivating to watch and have made us want to see more. How you can cut two amazing actresses, not to mention two strong women role models, is completely beyond me. CBS, you truly dropped the ball on this one. The show will never be the same without them. It's selfish and disgusting and just wrong.
I wondering what would make anyone one like this is a good idea. I think this is something you should use in a script with of course a happy ending. This is a team sho for all the fans works its magic together
The network will regret this decision. These two woman are vital for the chemistry and success of the show. Fans WILL NOT tolerate this injustice to these talented actoresses and ratings will drop. This decision SCREAMS NBC and "The Tonight Show." I fear Criminal Minds will be on the cutting block by the end of the season suffering from the same fate as "The Tonight Show" is currently. This show is my favorite, and I'm on the verge of never watching CBS again.
The show will not be the same without A.J. The reason the show is as fantastic as it is, is due to the group dynamic and the way the cast plays off of one another. Breaking that by cutting AJ from the show and diminishing Pagets air time will ruin the very aspect that makes the show as fantastic as it is.
LISTEN CBS not everyone thinks the sun rises and sets with Forest Whitaker!! If Criminals Minds is SOOO successful (the usual criteria for a spin-off) then why would you mess with the original fantastic CM??? I WILL NOT watch the spin-off. The episode this season was not great due to the fact I was not interested in these new people!! Remember the awesome JVD Beek episodes?? AJ was very important in those. Paget was very likable the first episode she was on and I thought the team is going to be even better. And it was!! PLEASE continue to feature these wonderful women on CM!! I am a big fan and have bought all the DVD sets. Don't let those DVD's be just memories of a formerly perfect show!!
CBS - believe in Karma? Your spin off will never make it at the expense of the real show. We watch Criminal Minds for the ensemble cast. They all mesh so well, why mess with it? Karma is watching - you won't be happy if we aren't happy!
Getting rid of AJ Cook and reducing Paget Brewsters episode count is a huge mistake. Criminal Minds has become one of the most popular shows on television because of ALL its cast members and to change that now would destroy the magic of the show irreparibly.
CBS and producers of CM please, please, please reconcider your decision to not pick up AJ's contract and reduce Paget's episode count. I love Criminal Minds just as it is and feel the show would take a turn for the worst without these two wonderful ladies.
This series is amazing because of the interaction of all of the cast members. If you cut out the two of them you drastically impair the chemistry of the whole team. Both Paget and A.J. are vital members of the show and should not be taken away.
And what is the point of taking away A.J.'s character and then just replacing her? Wouldn't it make more sense to just keep the character of J.J.? Please do not destroy this series by taking away two very valuable members.
Characters as strongly written and as strongly portrayed as JJ and Emily need to be seen on television. By women who need to see other women of strength and integrity, and by men who need to be reminded that such women exist, and should be the goal for all women that they know and love.
Please let CBS know that even the treat of removing or reducing either of these wonderful roles diminishes the value of the product the team at Criminal Minds has worked so hard to create these last five seasons.
I for one will happily tolerate knowing the existence of another mindless piece of reality crap TV, if it saves enough $$ to allow CM to stay on the air in it present form and team
As a loyal fan, I am shocked and saddened by this bizarre decision! I have watched CM from day one, I buy the season DVDs, and I have introduced several people to this show. This is a betrayal to your fans! The reason I love this show is the chemistry of the cast. They are a family! JJ is the glue that holds the team together through the horrors that they witness. And it's not just any actor who can do that, it's AJ as JJ who can do this so wonderfully. And I love Paget so much! The character of Prentiss is awesome! I love stories that focus on her and every eposode that features her is made better by her presence. The show works because of the interaction of the amazing characters, and the awesome actors/ACTRESSES who play them. Please just scrap the spin-off. I wasn't impressed at all by the episode that introduced this new "team." There was NO chemistry and the acting was horrible. All respect to Mr. Whitaker, but even he can't pull it off. I definately won't be tuning in to that lukewarm attempt for a hit. Please keep our CM cast intact!
I don't understand CBS's decision, why let two popular, strong, female characters go and then bring in a new female character, who people will automatically hate. That is the way to loose viewers, myself included. Will stop watching CM and never start watching the spin off.
I find this absolutely ridiculous! AJ Cook is the heart of the show, if she leaves and Paget's appearance is reduced I don't think I would want too see the show anymore! I have stopped watching shows for lesser changes and I will not think twice about ceasing to watch CM as well. Criminal Minds has a solid cast breaking that will break the show which makes me really sad because I very much enjoy watching it.
I can't believe that they're getting away with something so blatantly misogynistic. Why would CBS want to turn this amazing show into every other crime show out there, dominated by the manly men. With the woman only there to be a comforting shoulder for victims or the pretty piece of flesh to lure the bad guy out. Criminal Minds was different because it has strong, intelligent female characters that can (and do) hold their own with the men. They have opinions and actual things to contribute to the casework. The fact that the show has been so focused on the male characters is the fault of the writers and cutting down the female portion of the cast isn't the way to correct the issue. It's only enabling. We know so little about the characters of Emily and JJ there are a million different storylines that could be created for them, if only someone would make use of them. Rather than trying to turn them into a group of brainless, lusty sex objects with nothing better to do than gossip about men. It's a sad day in this world when CBS will throw millions of dollars per episode at someone like Charlie Sheen, who's hobbies include drink driving, drugs and beating on women; then cuts actresses of this callibre so they can afford to do so. If CBS doesn't change it's mind and put the cast back the way it belongs, then they will lose a viewer. Well, probably a lot more than one.
I have long thought that Criminal Minds had one of the strongest female casts on a network show, due both to the writers giving them the material and the excellent work of the CM women in bringing the characters to life.
I was even impressed by how regularly they fulfilled the qualifications for The Rule--two (or more!) women having a conversation about something other than a man.
I am shocked and disappointed that we will be losing such strong, intelligent, amazing characters for ANY reason. There is no excuse for this, CBS.
CBS is making a big mistake breaking up a winning ensemble. I think the show will just be awful without AJ and eventually Paget, and I personally don't want to break in a new member of the team. And FYI, CBS- I'm with T.Gibson on the "spin-off" issue... the BAU is supposed to be unique and exclusive, as in the only one out there. Besides, your pilot sucked BIG TIME. If it weren't for the original BAU being in it, my tv wouldn't have even stayed on for 5 minutes.
This is bull!! I love CM, and Emily is my fav character! If they cut JJ and cut back on Emily, for some stupid spin off, that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I read someone's comment on a different site who suggested if it's a budget reason, they should cut back on all the actors alternating who is on in each episode e.g. send Hotch on a holiday with Jack, then Reid visits his mom in Vegas or something!
And why is it that the female actors are being kicked off?
I'm so angry!!!! I'm in shock too, but all the other emotions I'm feeling are taking a back-seat to the RAGE! I agree with MARIA LOPEZ I think they're trying to save money for the new spin-off show of which I AM NOT SUPPORTING. Not because of the current issue but even before when the news first surfaced about the spin-off. Hate the idea, especially hate the actors. LAME. CBS has to be the most moronic and simpleton networks to pull something like this. I LOVE THIS CAST...I wish the Gideon character was around instead of Rossi but I've learned to "love" him too.
I love the CM cast and crew as a whole and I do not want to see anyone go or their role to be cut back but ESPECIALLY the ladies. This just defies all logic and for CBS to use the "creative reasons" excuse bothers me even more. I will definitely NOT support this show if these kinds of changes stay in effect. We've all had ours shows messed with to some degree just as I have, but this is me drawing the line. Not with my Criminal Minds, no not ever CBS!
I wonder if all these comments are going to make some impression on the CBS guys... I sure as h3ll hope so, after all their business is supposed to be about giving the vewers what they want. Not taking it away.
The decision to leave JJ behind and cut Prentiss' air time is exactly that - taking aways one of the essential things that make the show great. Take them away and you ruin a good show. Take them away and what will that leave for your female audience to identify with? The victims? The damsels in distress? Or Strauss?
And no, that doesn't mean that if you add another female character it will make it all OK. There's a reason why Agent Todd didn't 'click' - with the team or with the fans. She's not JJ.
I also wanted to add something. I've watched a few other crime drama shows, CSI and Law and Order, but never regularly. Criminal Minds is the first one I've fallen in love with. I absolutely love every character so much!
Criminal Minds isn't a franchise like CSI and Law and Order have become, but it's starting to seem as if that's the direction CBS wants to take this amazing series. I don't have a problem with one spin off, but it seems as if that's just the beginning. AJ has been a part of this show since the beginning, not including the pilot, and Paget has been there since mid season two. They are very much so loved by the fans. Don't take them away from us!
I think they're only doing this because of the spin-off, but if they hadn't made a frickin' spin-off in the first place, they wouldn't need to do this! Isn't the BAU supposed to be this elite, one-of-a-kind team? How the hell are you supposed to have a spin-off of THAT?! Screw the spin-off, I wasn't even impressed with the characters in the epi they were introduced on CM!
Has CBS even heard the phrase if it aint broke dont fix it. in other words CBS leave the case alone!! Dont get rid of anyone!! CM is the best show on tv so why mess with a winning formula!! Doesnt matter which member of the cast it is.. leave them alone!
AJ and Paget are two wonderful and talented actresses. They are as much part of the show as the other cast members, and have to stay! AJ is my favorite girl on CM, I can't imagine it without her. I love the role she is portraying, and no one is in need of a spin-off. Save the money you invest in paying Forest Whitaker and give it to the lovely actresses!!! It's just a very stupid and ridiculous decision to let them go/reduce roles because of financial issues. Forget about the spin-off and keep to the original CM and its cast. Extra-ordinary writers alone don't run the show. It's the actors/actresses that put their heart and soul into their characters/roles and AJ/PAGE belong to CM and can't just be replaced with some newbies.
I have watched Criminal Minds since the very first episode. I buy the seasons on DVD. But I will no longer watch any episode that A.J. & Paget do not appear in. They can kiss away my DVD sales.
And if CBS thinks I’ll bother wasting my time with Criminal Minds 2, think again.
I just found Criminal Minds on A&E was really excited for the show to come back in September. However, I will not be watching Criminal Minds now because of it blatantly sexist decision to cut AJ and Paget. I hope the ratings drop CBS.
This is really ridiculous, I do not know why CBS is doing this. These characters are part of the team and create a whole new perspective and aspect to the show. If its for financial reasons then cut two of the episodes from the season, please keep AJ and Emily. This actresses do not deserve this treatment and are fabulous on the show. They really give their characters depth and connect with the audience. I would rather have no spin off show and keep AJ and Emily...
I'm starting to believe that CBS wants to kill CM... I think that is the goal. It would make sense why they never really promoted it on CBS... shame on you CBS! I'm very disappointed!
If CBS does that, i'll stop watching the show. Because i love the team, THIS TEAM !
When Lola and Mandy left the show, fans were still there, because it was their decision, but here, that is not the same thing ... And for fans, it's totally different! You'll see if you do that !
Like many others, I've already written my complaint/request to CBS and signed the petition.
The only things I'm terrified of at this point are for the CBS decision to stick and for the Criminal Minds writers to take the easy route and take JJ's character out of the picture on account of her motherhood as many other fans have speculated. She was working the job until she was in labor, she came back from maternity leave early to rejoin the team, and she's shown that she's capable of handling the balance of motherhood and amazing federal agent. I don't want JJ's exit story to be a slap in the face to her character (in regards to her motherhood or otherwise). I'd rather AJ not come back at all.
Criminal Minds works as well as it does because it has a cohesive and balanced cast that genuinely likes each other. Taking away AJ Cook entirely and reducing Paget Brewster's part destroys that balance and is very upsetting to the remaining cast and to the show's loyal fans. CBS, please reconsider your decision because this show works best with ALL of the team doing their parts each week. If you need to save money, postpone or cancel the spin-off; don't destory the original that made the thought of a spin-off possible.

Please CBS be reasonable. It would SEVERELY damage the show if you cut these two awesome characters! Just over a week ago I was telling a friend how I'd realized that I don't care whether characters get written out of shows EXCEPT for the ones on Criminal Minds. The fantastically talented cast make the entire show!
If you let them go you will hurt my feelings... and you don't want to do that, do you?
Stupid decision ! This cast is good because they have a great chemistry together. It will never be this good without AJ and Paget. Acknowledge you made a mistake !
OMG what on earth are CBS thinking. I am DISGUSTED and so ANGRY by there decision to let AJ go and cut Paget back. Regardless of whether this is for Financial(cut the spin off - or cut Charlie Sheens wage) or Creative reasons(listen to the fans - its perfect as it is) its a BIG mistake. Sat down last night to watch new episode "A rite of passage" on RTE channel here in Ireland and I had to switch channels - I couldn't bear to watch it knowing whats going on - I felt physically sick. I have watched this show from the first series and wish I could say I will continue to watch but my heart has gone out of it. The same thing happened to me with CSI and I no longer watch it. Look what happened there with Jorja Foxs replacement - she lasted 1 series and CBS brought Jorja back - can you not learn from your mistakes CBS!!! Please give me my show back with ALL the cast.
I love CM, and I believe that dropping AJ is a bad idea. Other shows which loose main characters, whom have not asked to quit and such, have lost viewers, and so would CM. Bringing in another person would just ruin this show, because we've grown to love AJ. And dropping Paget's screen time? Bad move - shes one of the funniest people on the show. Wanna get rid of anything, get rid of the silly spinoff idea no one is behind, and give that budget to the originals. SAVE OUR GIRLS!
I know people still want to vent and get the best they can out of CBS, but my venting has moved on in a different direction.
The reality is even if CBS backs down, things will never be the same. The lack of support and trust is evident. Perhaps the show wasn't properly sold to sponsors and we're suffering from the age-old divide between the sales reps and the producers of the actual product.
So I'd like to add my 2 cents on transition and other options. I've been thinking about this for awhile. With current online technology, couldn't we move towards membership production?
How much does an episode of CM cost to produce? If just 4 million watchers were willing to pay for yearly membership packages that amounted to a $1 per episode, about $25 per year with a free DVD set thrown in, that amounts to $4 million per episode.
Members get first run access via the web, along with a DVD set that includes extended behind the scenes coverage.
With the right resell package to ION, A&E and yes even CBS, everyone can get residuals, even the original members. Membership residuals, most likely a few cents on the dollar, can be applied to future membership discounts.
How far off am I on this idea?
(And please don't use ITunes for the web transmission. I bought "Exit Wounds" since I missed the broadcast and the streaming skips whole lines of dialogue. I don't have this problem however with Netflix.)
In the meantime, I think we're stuck with Season 6 coming from CBS. So my thoughts on some character transitions:
Promote JJ to the FBI Director's office Media/PR staff.
Have Hotch do a lateral transition to get out from under Strauss and get back on the promotion track. When he's offered a well-deserved promotion, he quits and starts a law enforcement consulting firm.
Strauss realizes she gave up a valuable political ally when Hotch leaves.
Another idea, especially if we take advantage of web tech: Wouldn't you love to see this ensemble cast in a really well written comedy?
Hi from Italy I'd like to quote EVERY single comment by CM's fans but.....
"dear" CBS I hope you'll "enjoy" your low rating the very minute you drop those two actresses who have done nothing but help the show create a solid fanbase.
For the remaining cast... pls Tom, Joe, Shemar, Mattew, Kristen support in a strongest way our girls or this insane decision by CBS will be the beginning of the end for the show............... :(
CBS: have a nice Harakiri !!!!!!!!
By an exceedingly pissed and upset EX(if things don't change) CM viewer from Rome
To whom this may concern: I have recently been informed that AJ Cook had been fired and Paget Brewster's air time is going to be cut. I was very shocked my this information, and at first I didn't believe it. I thought ' CBS would never do something like that they are too good to do that' Wow, I was completely wrong. No more girls night out scenes? No one to tease Reid with morgen? No more motherly influence? No more perfect team chemistry? No more reasons to be a fan? That is what this is coming to? All for money that you will ultimately lose when ratings plummet. And I know I am not the only one and I know that this is not the only complaint you people are getting because I know your shows fanbase and I know they will not stand for this. Thank you for rethinking your idiotic decision (and incase you didn't understand, that was a big HINT) You're to-be former fan, Lisa
The decision to remove A.J. Cook's character and reduce the screen time of Paget Brewster's is misguided at best, and myopic and sexist at worst.
This is one of the select few shows that I watch. One of the major draws of the show is the strong female characters (JJ and Emily) who are right at home playing in the sandbox with 'the boys'.
From the many conversations I have had both in real life and online with women of varying ages, the consensus is that the decisions regarding these characters is going to have serious negative implications and will inevitably affect CBS right where it will hurt most - the financial bottom line.
The relevant powers that be need to remember that without the fan base which supports these shows, there will be no show at all. Can CBS really afford to alienate a significant portion of its viewers of Criminal Minds?
I really believe that some other option has to be found in order to save money on this show. Tanking the less-than-impressive spin off seems to me like a good way to go, and instead focus on giving Criminal Minds the punch it needs to climb to the top of the ratings and stay there.
If this decision is upheld, the only reason I will continue to watch is for the other female actor, Kirsten Vangsness, whose character I also love. However, among my circle of acquaintances, I will be alone in doing this.
CM has always been a favorite of mine in part becasue of these two women. I know Paget hasn't always been in the cast, but I felt she fit immediately. These two women are brave and strong and I love that. At a time where women who are strong are hard to come by when played well. These two are consistent and believable. Please don't change anything. I love this cast. I almost didnwant to come back after you took away Mandy Patinkin. LOVE CM --PLEASE KEEP IT THE SAME!
Why on earth would TPB think that cutting off 2/3 of the female cast would be a smart move? If it is about money I'm pretty sure Joe or Thomas make more than AJ or Paget do (it's always the men who earn more than women - not that they aren't doing a great job) If they want to save money, than stop planning a spin-off that is going to fail epically! We are fans of CM because it is "quiet" and elegant and unobtrusive and not flashy, funky and action loaded. Seriously!
But then again, what can we expect from a network that pays a wife-beating jerk 850.000$ per episode of one of the most sexist shows on TV.
I am gutted. JJ was my absolutely favourite character and I adore what Paget brings to the show. I think I will stop watching if this happens. I love the other guys but the show will be ruined without AJ and Paget.
Criminal Minds, as it is, is by far the best thing on television.
However, I have no plans to watch the spin-off, and know of nobody else who does.
Alongside Reid and Hotch, Emily is one of the best characters.
Wanna save some money? Keep JJ and Emily as full-time characters, and forget this stupid spin off. It'll be cancelled after one series anyway, and without AJ and Paget I think the original will lose A LOT of viewers. Re-think please!
http://agirlnamedluna.livejournal.com/712878.html for my full thoughts
I am terribly bothered by this blatant display of sexism and absolute disrespect of the cast and the fans exhibited by CBS. Perhaps CBS should reconsider its creative team if all they can come up with is cutting the two most prominent female characters on a hit show.
I'm just gonna type what's in my heart so here goes.A.J Cook was the reason I started to watch this show I then I bought all the box sets and fell in love just as much with Paget Brewster,I have watched every epsiode soo many times I could probably tell the writers the script.I live and breathe Criminal Minds , I have screen capped every ep, I make wallpapers of JJ & Emily,I read fanfic of JJ & Emily and I'm writing a fanfic myself about JJ & Emily. They belong together for me.The cast belong together without one all the others will not be the same let alone losing 2 members. This is my most favourite show ever and I have all my friends and family watching it too.I am beyond upset , I sat and cried we are just asking no pleading please don't take A.J & Paget away from us!They mean the world to me and I know to a lot of other people. We are fanatical about this show and are praying that you aren't going to spoil it out of pure stupidity.I love you A.J & Paget forever!!!
Criminal Minds is my fav show and I am devastated to hear this news. It was hard enough after Gideon left but there is no way the show will make it without Emily and JJ. They are amazing actresses with loads of talent and without them the heart of the show will be lost.
I hope CBS will change its mind and bring Paget and AJ back as main cast members. Not to take anything away from the rest of the cast but it won't be the same and I really don't think I would watch if they aren't in it. I couldn't bare to watch the shell of what was once such a brilliant show.
CBS come on please reconsider AJs contract. I've Blogged and Twittered - snail mailed and emailed - pleaded and begged and even prayed......what more can I do please tell me!!!!
I want AJ and Paget both full-time on Criminal Minds. They are part of the family. If it is money why did CBS pay Mr. Sheen a couple of million an episode for a half hour comedy that is past its prime.
If it was a change to fresh up the series, what did they want....something like NCIS has with TIVA (which is a wasted story line). That worked so well when AJ was off to a the baby and the character Jordan was brought and was supposed to have UST with Derk. Didn't see it, didn't like the character much.
If the current group of actors are not present in the new season neither am I. Also I will not be purchasing the DVD's for last season.
It's a big mistake if you cut out JJ and Prentiss!! They need to be on the show they are a big part and a lot of people would be sad if they are out of the show! so do not cut them out!!!!! (excuse me for my english i am dutch)
It's one thing if an actor/actress doesn't want to be part of the cast anymore, but these ladies do an awesome job and it sure seems like they don't want to be cut down and replaced! Please keep the Criminal Minds team intact!
When I heard about what was going on, I thought it was a joke, but unfortunately, it was not. All I can say is that Criminal Minds will never be Criminal Minds without JJ AND Prentiss... I will probably not keep on watching, and if I will, it will be with sadness and anger. Why do they take the female characters only (played by wonderful actresses)?? Why do they change a such perfect and adorable team?? If it is for financial reason, why not do a shorter season and/or remove some characters for some episodes instead of removing definitely two characters? I am so upset... I cannot understand... So please, make JJ and Emily come back! message from a European fan.
Why is it that TV "Execs" (and I use the term loosely) ALWAYS seem to think they know what's best for a show, and it always comes in the form of removing/replacing characters that the viewers actually identify with, and have a loyalty to. AJ and Paget are an integral part of this show, and taking them off would be the absolute WORST decision the network could possibly make!!!!! I hope these supposed hot-shots hear about how many people are furious with this decision, and get their heads out of their butts and realize that this would be the biggest mistake they could make!!!! DON'T DO IT CBS!!!!!
An amazing highly rated show with strong women in important roles. Now there is a spin off and the original is being changed for the worse. Guess which spin off won't be on my DVR schedule? Disgusting example of disrespect to the fans that have made the show a success and the actors who keep us tuning in.

I hope the execs at CBS will reconsider this bone-headed move before it's too late, before they kill a perfectly good show with such foolishness - never mind ruining another new show with potential
before it even airs.
Kind regards,
Vanessa Schwierske

I'm shocked: this is the worst, silliest and more sexist idea they could have.
I'm a great fan of MGG but I really love them too: they are so beautiful and talented!
CBS guys are male chauvinist and so
unbelievably ungrateful: I can't believe they have invested money in that pointless spinoff!
Why would I want to watch a show where the only women in it are either dead or left behind at the office?

CBS. The drugs. STOP DOING THEM.
Where the hell is Ed B. in all this???
Big mistake. Huge.
Hey, CBS - Our petition now has 14,364 names....14,364 people around the world who want to see both Paget & AJ on CM full-time...
Are you hearing us yet?
Oh right now I am still in shock.
I Love the show with JJ and Prentiss.

This is it.
Helen
Hey CBS (and CM fans) - so far, Paul F Tompkins, Aaron Ginsburg and Kevin Pollak have signed our petition!
I asked Paul F Tompkins and Kevin Pollak to,but I didn't ask Aaron Ginsburg...which means that people are talking!
Oh, and I'd like to second a comment from Anonymous, above, as it surely seems that drugs must be the explanation for all this:
CBS. The drugs. STOP DOING THEM.
Horrible slap in the face to two wonderfully talented actresses. Shame on CBS.
I'm honestly still pretty pissed about this.
Axe the spin off! Stupid people, AJ is awesome and I don't think I could watch it without her!!
I'm still in shock too. This is crap!!! I won't watch a minute of the spinoff now either. AND Criminal Minds will lose me as well. This is just WRONG!
I am ANGRY!
Sincerely,
An enrage fan that wishes you bankruptcy, or at least, a lot of personal pain.
Dennis
I am so enraged that I filed a complaint on CBS website:
To the people who are taking A.J Cook and Paget Brewster off "Criminal Minds:"
Do you realize what you are doing to a PERFECT televsion show? You're breaking it. And lately, shows that are broken have no chance of being fixed. In fact, the minute you drop those two actresses who have done nothing but help the show create a solid fanbase, I guarantee that over half of your dedicated fans who are the reason you are so popular will immediately stop watching and you will lose ratings. I implore you to please change your minds about what you are doing to one of the best television shows this world has seen.
One of the many dedicated and soon to be former fans,
MK
this is a terrible, terrible decision. JJ is such a wonderful character, and ever since Emily came to the show, i've been liking her character more and more, with each episode. its just not right to remove them from the show, even to push them to the side. it won't be the same without them.
CBS, don't do this. you're going to lose so many viewers.
Amen to the commenter who said they would never treat two men on the same show like they are treating our two actresses. Total sexism.
You're soon to be former fan,
Lisa
I am furious and disgusted.
Do. Not. Do. This.
(my fav. show btw, but anyways without A.J. of Paget it would just SUCK)
IM SO ANGRY, HURT and SAD.
Didi
If AJ Cook and Paget Brewster get reduced, I stop watching--I promise. The guys are fantastic and I adore KV, but the show is ruined without JJ and reduced/no Emily. Why can't CBS just leave a good thing alone? Nothing needed to be shaken up. It was wonderful and beloved as is.
I'll boycott CBS entirely, not buying dvds, or the CM game to come out in the fourth quarter.
Also, don't think that the "boys club" thing has gotten past me either. This is a sexist choice. Shame on you.
--Humroot
I don't even know if I want to watch CM anymore...it just doesn't seem the same w/o JJ
There's a reason Criminal Minds has so many fans-the great cast! Without JJ and Prentiss, it will lose much of it's magic. Please reconsider your decision!
i think u should keep both they are very important to the show u need them they r the females of the show
What can I say that hasn't already been said?
*sigh*)
I just hope that CBS/ ABC Studios realizes that an all male group, for this kind of crime show, is just icky and inappropriate.
Get your act together, CBS.
Brewster and Cook not back full time next season? UN-FREAKIN-ACCEPTABLE! Get reall CBS!
And get rid of the spin-off.
I definitely will not be watching the spin off.
i'm so excited about this blog i can't wait to hear more about criminal minds :) i love the show so much.
Justina, Pissed off in Denver!
One of the dumbest thing they could've done. Seriously,
We need AJ and Paget!
If CBS wants to save $, drop the spin-off.
Oh gosh CBS who asked for the stupid spin off anyway? Cut it out and retain the ladies. so unwise cbs!
Let us be VERY clear since the CBS PTB don't seem to be that intelligent:
We do NOT want just any women in our cast.
We DO want Paget & AJ.
Nothing over 2-syllable words... think you can understand CBS?!
My letter to CBS read as follows:
Dear CBS Execs and Criminal Minds Producers:
You can't fire AJ Cook and reduce Paget Brewster! You just can't CBS, you hear me? NO!
DON'T DO THIS!!!!!
The show will not be the same without A.J. The reason the show is as fantastic as it is, is due to the group dynamic and the way the cast plays off of one another. Breaking that by cutting AJ from the show and diminishing Pagets air time will ruin the very aspect that makes the show as fantastic as it is.
What a stupid decision.
I think this is ridiculous! Add more people, fine, but don't remove the cast! The team is awesome as is!
I think this is coming about because somebody wants to put their "pet" in AJ's place. This is the poorest excuse that it is monetary!
They will probably pay this other person quite well! I e-mailed and now will call. This is so ridiculous!!
The decision to trim the cast is more shocking than the outcomes from the World Cup!
There are many ways to be creative with characters.... this is just F-ed up way!!!this is completely sexiest!!!
AJ Cook & Paget Brewster are dearly loved by one and all...They have played strong characters and made this show what it is!!!
Proudly South African CM Fan
Lets start a memorial list:
Fired:
Dan Dworkin
Jay Beattie
Holly Harold
Andrew Wilder
A.J. Cook
1/2 Fired:
Paget Brewster
CBS has turned into an UNSUB!
CBS isn't helping the show so that only leaves money. They are ruining the show so they an try to safe some money. What do they need money for?????
Charlie Sheen's obscene paycheck
Forrest Whitaker's paycheck
Les Moonves' hefty paycheck.
This sucks!
Criminal Minds without JJ and Emily isn't Criminal Minds... I don't think i'll continue watching it!
I am shocked.
I will seriously reconsider if I will ever watch any episode without Paget or AJ.
Wanna save money? I have good advice: cut freakin' spin-off, not important characters from the original team! What a ridiculous decision.
I'm pissed off!
How can they do that?
If the only reason they are doing this is to create more money for the Spin-Off then drop the Spin-Off! It's horrible!
If they get rid of ANY of the main cast, I WILL NOT watch anymore!
I love AJ & PAGET. <3 <3
still angry but sign the petition
All thre french Fan of CM support AJ and Paget We only want them on CM, nobody else !!! Keep AJ Cook & Paget Brewster !!!
Please, reconsider and bring AJ back.
What the hell are you thinking CBS? Trying to alienate the entire female viewing public? Needless to say, if they go, WE GO!
Has CBS even heard the phrase if it aint broke dont fix it. in other words CBS leave the case alone!! Dont get rid of anyone!! CM is the best show on tv so why mess with a winning formula!! Doesnt matter which member of the cast it is.. leave them alone!
Come on CBS, see sense. You lose us all if you lose AJ and Paget!
This is absurd!
If it is all for 'Financial Reasons' then cut the Spin-Off, not AJ and Paget.
Criminal Minds would not be the same.
CBS, sort it out, soon.
CM is not CM without AJ Cook.
JJ, Emily and Kirsten are the best. The show is strong because of the team. Don't ruin the team.
If CBS does that, i'll stop watching the show. Because i love the team, THIS TEAM !
When Lola and Mandy left the show, fans were still there, because it was their decision, but here, that is not the same thing ... And for fans, it's totally different!
You'll see if you do that !
Johannie from FRANCE.

How about it Mr. Bernero?
Hi from Italy
I'd like to quote EVERY single comment by CM's fans but.....
Patri
To whom this may concern:
I have recently been informed that AJ Cook had been fired and Paget Brewster's air time is going to be cut. Thank you for rethinking your idiotic decision (and incase you didn't understand, that was a big HINT)
You're to-be former fan,
Lisa
If they leave the show, i will stop watching the show.
Very angry too :@
This the post I sent using CBS' feedback form:
If it is about money I'm pretty sure Joe or Thomas make more than AJ or Paget do (it's always the men who earn more than women - not that they aren't doing a great job)
If they want to save money, than stop planning a spin-off that is going to fail epically! We are fans of CM because it is "quiet" and elegant and unobtrusive and not flashy, funky and action loaded. Seriously!
But then again, what can we expect from a network that pays a wife-beating jerk 850.000$ per episode of one of the most sexist shows on TV.
Sexist pigs. Not watching CM anymore. Nuff said.
A f*ckin' travesty. I'm sorry for cussing in asterix but this is failure on it's highest level.
I am gutted. JJ was my absolutely favourite character and I adore what Paget brings to the show. I think I will stop watching if this happens. I love the other guys but the show will be ruined without AJ and Paget.
JJ & Emily rocked Criminal Minds. The show is over for me if they aren't on full time next season.
Shame on you, CBS.

Pls stop sharing the foolish project, by firing two beloved ladies all the chemistry of the show will implode!!!!!!!!
Save your money for a wiser network....
It's a big mistake if you cut out JJ and Prentiss!! They need to be on the show they are a big part and a lot of people would be sad if they are out of the show! so do not cut them out!!!!! (excuse me for my english i am dutch)
Please keep AJ and Paget on Criminal Minds!
It's one thing if an actor/actress doesn't want to be part of the cast anymore, but these ladies do an awesome job and it sure seems like they don't want to be cut down and replaced! Please keep the Criminal Minds team intact!
This is just ridiculus !
AJ and Paget are a vital part of this show you can't get rid of them. I sure won't bother watching again if this is gonnna be confirmed.
The cast neeeds to remain untouched!
I can not still believe it. They should not leave. These two actresses bring a lot for the series.
An amazing highly rated show with strong women in important roles. Now there is a spin off and the original is being changed for the worse. Guess which spin off won't be on my DVR schedule? Disgusting example of disrespect to the fans that have made the show a success and the actors who keep us tuning in.
