CRIMINAL MINDS: MEETING PAGET BREWSTER BY ROMY SKYE

Criminal Minds: Meeting Paget Brewster, Emily Prentiss on Criminal Minds, by Romy Skye

-There are certain people in a person's life who help mould the person they become. These people may knowingly or unknowingly influence a person. Paget Brewster is one of those people for me.

She taught me the most important lesson I've ever learnt - to not wait for life to happen, but to make it happen. To put yourself out there and do what you want to do. To experience life, and not just live it. Paget Brewster experiences life. She also taught me to be myself, and just have fun and not constantly worry about what people think. She's been a part of my life since Criminal Minds. I loved her as Kathy and did watch her on the Andy Richter show, but it was Criminal Minds that had me youtube-ing interviews and videos of her.

I had the most amazing opportunity to meet her on Saturday, July 10th.It was the best experience ever and meeting her has given me new drive, courage and determination to do what I want to do and live my dream. Here's exactly what happened -

My uncle and aunt dropped me off at Largo, where it was happening and went to hang out in the city. The show is called "The Thrilling Adventure and Supernatural Suspense Hour". I first heard of this when I saw an interview that Paget did with Kevin Pollack. It sounded fascinating and I always wanted to see it. When it coincided with my trip so perfectly, I booked my ticket!

The show itself is a variety show, with some singing, some jingles, some acting and a ton of laughter! It's modeled after the 1930s radio shows. I laughed almost continuously for an hour and a half! My "smile dimples" are definitely deeper! She is in the second half of the show where she plays a character called Sadie who is married to Frank. They are a rich, 1930s couple who live in the Plaza Penthouse and drink martinis. She used the word "Horse" which she demonstrated in the Kevin Pollack Chat Show. Her partner in crime is Paul F Tompkins, one of the funniest comedians around. This time, the story revolved around a Spanish love story and it involved goats, witches, a prince and a Chupacabra!

At the beginning of the show, I asked Micheal, the person who gave me my ticket and was clearly the go-to person if he could give Paget a little something I had for her. He said that he would take it to her immediately and went backstage and gave it to her. He came out about 5 minutes later and told me to meet him at the courtyard after the show, so that I could meet Paget!!! I nodded eagerly and jumped up and down when he turned around! I'm pretty sure I looked like a fool, but who cares!

I went out to the courtyard after the show, cursing myself for leaving my shawl in my uncle's car. It was slightly chilly, but not the go-blue variety (Yay!). I hung around there, with the other 200 play goers trying to catch his eye. It really helped that I was wearing bright blue cause he called me over when he saw me. I went on over and he told me to wait. he went inside and then came out and motioned to follow him through the stage door. I was entering sacred space. A part of me wanted to look around and take everything in, but the part that respected an actors space won and I looked down and walked.

I think Micheal must have sensed my klutzness, because he warned me of every step, preventing every chance that I had to fall on my face, for which I am eternally grateful. We went outside to this little area where Paget and a bunch of other people were standing around laughing and joking. I waited patiently on the side, quite intimidated to join this group.

She finally looked in my direction and went "Oh! Are you Saroma?" and at my nod, hugged me and thanked me for the stuff. I was a little shocked cause I did not expect this kind of openness! I hugged her back and told her that I was glad she liked the stuff. We hung out and chatted outside for about 20 minutes! I asked her for an autograph and a picture and was quite embarrassed by my shaking hands, partially due to the cold and partially cause I was so flipping excited.

We talked about her restroom thing where she wants to say hello to a person when they accidentally walk in on her. She laughed at that and said that she had tried it at all the airports - London, Paris, Milan, etc. She said that she was currently working on a cartoon where The Simpsons originally filmed (?) and there was one stall that does not have a lock. Three guesses to which one she said she uses :P Conan flashback anyone?

Someone saw the bling on her ring finger and asked if she was engaged to Steve! She laughed at that and said "Oh no! If it happens, you'll be the first to know!" It was the bling for the show - cause her character Sadie is married to Frank Doyle!

When we admired her dress from the show, she told us that it was from ebay, and that she got it for $12!!! The entire group was in shock cause it fit her like it was stitched for her! She said that if you knew your exact measurements, you could get awesome stuff from there.

After hanging out for a few more minutes, where she revealed that she collected handbags and actually had a showcase like thing for them (Like the showcase where people keep their fancy china), we headed back indoors (Oh finally the shivering stopped!) and she gave me another hug and kiss, still totally blown away by her down to earth-ness, and we said goodbye. She asked if I was coming again and I told her that it would be cool if they toured India!

Paget Brewster is amazingly sweet, funny, so freaking beautiful and just everything you've heard. She is so easy to talk to and you totally relax and have fun around her, no matter how shy and intimidated you may be.

Thank you so much for everything!!

PS: She also signed an autograph for me that says she adores me!!!!! I cannot get luckier!

CRIMINAL MINDS: KIRSTEN VANGSNESS & PINK EARS

Criminal Minds: Eh? What’s this? It’s not Susan Boyle’s Harajuku loving daughter, it’s Kirsten Vangsness – she attended Comic-Con Fandemonium with EW and CBS, dressed up as her own special comic character. Ah, where do I start with this – those pink ears are so in vogue, and that t-shirt is totally hawwt, it really just makes her body look like one of a goddess don’t you think? Especially because it’s all tight and figure hugging.

As someone who’s personally read a comic at least once before, even I know you don’t have to dress up like a deranged Geri Halliwell meets Gwen Stefani’s background Japanese girls to be comic nerd – most of the time all is needed is a nurse’s uniform or a Limp Bizbit Chocolate Starfish hoody. Although, how likely is it that Lady Gaga would wear this? I think she probably might..

CRIMINAL MINDS: KIRSTEN AT COMIC-CON

Criminal Minds: Entertainment Weekly and CBS invaded this year’s Comic-Con with a party purely for the fans. Readers got the chance to meet their favorite EW staffers, like Michael Ausiello and Jeff “Doc” Jensen, at the fiesta in San Diego’s Hard Rock Hotel. Fans were also treated to a Q&A by EW managing editor Jess Cagle with some of CBS’ best talent, including The Big Bang Theory‘s Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, and Kaley Cuoco as well as Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park from this fall’s highly anticipated Hawaii Five-O and The Defenders‘ Jerry O’Connell. But the topic on everyone’s minds was the weekend’s ginormous pop culture convention. Says Criminal Minds‘ Kirsten Vangsness, “CBS was like, ‘Would you like to come to Comic-Con?’ And I was like, ‘What the what?! Yes please!’ This is so up my tree and I wanted to go so many years. But now I’m invited, and it’s just the greatest way to get baptized into the sweet, sweet waters Comic-Con.” NCIS star Pauley Perrette was in such a hurry to come down to the convention that she arrived still in character. “CBS had me shooting early this morning,” Perette told EW. “I was shooting NCIS and then I had to jump home, get my dogs ready, get my house ready, speed down to San Diego. I get down here and my friend is like, ‘You still have half a fake spider web tattoo on your neck.’ So, I actually just arrived. The world of Comic-Con is ahead of you.”

CRIMINAL MINDS: JOE MANTEGNA AS FAT TONY!

Criminal Minds star Joe Mantegna will be in an upcoming episode of the Simpsons as his character Fat Tony!

-Mad Men star Jon Hamm is to voice an FBI agent character on The Simpsons.

The actor will lead a sting operation against Joe Mantegna's character Fat Tony on the upcoming episode.

The Simpsons' executive producer Al Jean tells EW.com, "Jon’s a gruff FBI man... He has no patience for Homer."

And Hamm's Simpsons debut might lead to more appearances on the show - because the Mad Men star was a big hit. Jean adds, "You gave him one note and he immediately did 12 great things with it. He was really funny. And handsome. He had it all."

CRIMINAL MINDS: ED BERNERO TALKS ABOUT THE POSSIBLE TEAMSTERS STRIKE

Criminal Minds: Ed Bernero talks about the possible Teamsters strike.

-Television would be hit hardest.

That's the consensus among industryites prepping for a possible strike by Hollywood transportation workers should the Teamsters fail to secure a new pact before its current agreement expires Aug. 1. Upward of 20 shows are in production ahead of the fall television season.

"If it were to happen, it would be hugely unfortunate," said Ed Bernero, executive producer on the CBS series "Criminal Minds." "I really can't speculate on what I might do if it happened, but unions are very important to me. So it would be a very difficult decision for me."

It's possible the Teamsters would agree to work under a contract extension even if their pact expires without a new agreement in place, but the union's Hollywood Local 399 is expected to take a strike-authorization vote during a general membership meeting set for 8 a.m. Sunday in Burbank. That would arm Local leaders with the ability to walk at any point after the midnight expiration of the Local's current "Black Book" agreement a week from Saturday; even the prospect of a strike has production execs puzzling over ways of getting actors and others on and off their lots without crossing picket lines.

CRIMINAL MINDS: KIRSTEN VANGSNESS & COMIC-CON

Criminal Minds: Kirsten Vangsness at Comic-Con.

-Since the debut of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" 10 years ago, the use of technology has increasingly become a major character of sorts in many of today's most popular crime procedurals, including the CBS series "CSI: Miami," "CSI: NY," "NCIS," "NCIS: Los Angeles" and "Criminal Minds." How has technology changed - on and off screen - since the premiere of "CSI"? How much of the technology used on these shows is real vs. artistic license? How has the use of technology on these shows influenced the real world? Anthony Zuiker, "CSI" creator and executive producer of "CSI," "CSI: Miami" and "CSI: NY," will moderate a discussion with three of television's best-known tech wiz's - Pauley Perrette (NCIS Forensic Specialist Abby Sciuto on "NCIS"), Kirsten Vangsness (FBI Technical Analyst Penelope Garcia on "Criminal Minds") and Barrett Foa (NCIS Tech Operator Eric Beal on "NCIS: Los Angeles") - as well as "CSI's" former technical advisor and current supervising producer, Richard Catalani. (The Twitter Hashtag for this panel is #TechTV. Some of the panelists Twitter handles are: @PauleyP, @BarrettFoa, @Vangsness and @Zuiker.)

CRIMINAL MINDS: KIRSTEN VANGSNESS ON SPINOFF TOO?

Criminal Minds: 'Criminal Minds' Co-Star Kirsten Vangsness To Reprise Her Role On 'Minds' Spinoff?

Quirky FBI computer technician Penelope Garcia may be pulling a double duty this coming season. I hear that CBS has approached Criminal Minds co-star Kirsten Vangsness to also appear on the upcoming Criminal Minds spinoff, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, on a regular or recurring basis. The network is already employing such cross-pollinating on NCIS and its spinoff NCIS: Los Angeles. Rocky Carroll, regular on the original series, also recurs on the spinoff, playing the same character, NCIS director Leon Vance.

With her multi-colored hair, sassy attitude and street smarts, Garcia is one of the standout characters on Criminal Minds with devoted following. The network no doubt hopes her popularity among Criminal Minds fans would give a boost to the new series, slated to launch in midseason. Because of the mostly stationary setup – her character spends most of her time behind her computer desk - I hear Vangsness usually works one day a week on the mothership series and could fit in filming scenes for the spinoff too. Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior stars Forest Whitaker as Cooper, a former star profiler in the Behavioral Analysis Unit who now runs a team that exists outside of FBI bureaucracy. Janeane Garofalo recently joined the cast of the series as a new female lead, a highly competent FBI agent on Cooper's team.

Criminal Minds made headlines last month with the network's decision not to pick up series regular A.J. Cook, who will wrap up her character's storyline in two episodes this fall. Another regular, Paget Brewster, closed a deal to appear in 77% percent of the episodes for what will be her last season on the show. The original series is planning to add a new female character sometime next season.
