CRIMINAL MINDS: YAHOO GROUP POLL RESULTS

Criminal Minds: The members of the Criminal Minds Conversation Yahoo group recently voted in 7 polls about the show ranging from favorite character to demographics. I was surprised by the results in some of the polls. So tell me what you think about the results in these two polls. How would you have voted? I'll be posting a few of the other polls later in the day.

The first thing I noticed is that the majority of people voting did not want inter-office dating on the show. The second, and this was a surprise, was that Garcia & Morgan would be the preferred choice. I'm definately not a shipper so I would have voted the same way. Very cool. I'm looking forward to seeing the other polls.

eek, the first...

Most of the other shows experienced a downward trajectory once the sexual tension between people had been resolved by dating. It ruined some of the story lines. Cheers and Moonlighting come to my old, infirmed mind.

I would have voted hated it in both situations.

Morgan and Garcia over JJ and Reid is a surprise to me as well Maura. I would have thought the majority of shippers would have jumped on the JJ and Reid idea.

I really don't want dating on the show. It would take away from the stories so I voted no in both polls.

Morgan & Garcia getting more yes votes than Reid & J.J. is not really too shocking. The writers backed away from the Reid & J.J. dating idea really quickly when it was first introduced but the loving banter between Morgan & Garcia has continued since the beginning of the show. I think that their time on screen are some of the best moments of the show and would be ruined if they dated. I would have voted the same way...NO.

I like that you put in a choice for waiting to see it because that is my opinion. I am pretty open to whatever our writers want to do and I try not to judge something before I see it.

I would have voted yes in the first poll and no in the second one. Cool!!

I would vote no in both of the polls. I don't like it when characters date. I stopped watching CSI when Grisson started dating Sara.

Anonymous said...

I'm a JJ/Reid shipper. And I do hope they get together, but in subtle way. I'm sure the writers would have done a good job. That poll doesn;t mean anything.

reid needs someone in his life so i like to see reid and jj date.if not jj he meet someone out side of work, i like to garcia and morgan as a couple

Anonymous said...

on that other show i want that couple to be together.

I don't like the idea of inter-office dating on the show either, so I would definitely have voted Hate It on both questions. While I think that Morgan and Garcia's sexual innuendos is important to the show, I don't think it would be a good idea to take it to another level. Along the lines of what Tom Bryant said above, it would ruin that special playful spark they currently have together. As for JJ and Reid, not only can I not really see her having much of an interest in him, but if they did hook up, it would only be a matter of time before the soap opera scenes would have to follow. I would like to see that avoided to a certain extent.

I truly do love the Garcia/Morgan moments but any shift in their relationship would move the focus of the show away from the BAU and unsubs too much. I think the writers take it as far as it could go now without really having to write it in. I like that.

I honestly don't see Reid as being J.J.'s type of man. Sorry.

This is an iteresting poll, since it DOES NOT represent the general population. Ed does not decide if there's going to be a romance in the show. CBS calls the shots, and if CBS wants a romance, Ed will give them that. In order words: Whatever CBS wants, CBS gets.

Count me in on the JJ/Reid ship. I love those two together, and the writers in my opinion will not let it go to soap opera form.

Let's not turn CM into "Desperate Profilers". I don't think they need to go down that path to try to increase ratings. I would vote Hate it on both.

Anonymous said...

No to both for me as well. Why take the chance on ruining something that isn't broken? If either of these couples dated and it went badly then the angst would be all over the place and it would change their present relationships.

Anonymous said...

Oh Anonymous! Keep your knickers on dear. I like polls because you can see what your fellow viewers are thinking and the votings is done anoymously.

I voted yes on Reid and J.J. because I think a few dates would be interesting and I don't think it would kill the show. I can imagine how awkward our dear Spencer would be and I think it could be a moment of fun.

I voted yes on Morgan and Garcia because frankly I think that would be wonderful beyond words. They are already an item.

Anonymous said...

I didn't vote, missed the poll. I would have voted a big yes to JJ and Reid. They are the reason I watch the show.

Anonymous said...

Okay, I can understand the voting against a date between JJ and Reid, but I can't understand the voting against Morgan and Garcia, because this will be so great. Cause of the sexuell pressure between them, I love ther telcons.

Anonymous said...

I would have voted no on both polls. I love all four of these characters but no show could be less of a soap opera than this one. Behind the scenes may be a bloody mess but the show is based on criminal cases and the profilers who work these cases. Banter is cute for what it is but when you start having dating scenes in an episode then how is it the same show?

Hotchner is married with a child and we hardly ever see them. Why would we see dating all of a sudden?

I respect everyone else's opinions but it is not something I would have voted for.

Anonymous said...

I would like to see the show shake it up a tad. I'd go for Garcia and Derek. They're already somewhat dancing the dance now anyhow.

Anonymous said...

A healthy number of voters seemed to vote for waiting to see it to decide and I think I would fall under that category. I trust the writers and if they decided to explore this uncharted territory I would assume there is a reason. I'm open to whatever they throw at me. I guess I am easy to please. lol

Anonymous said...

I should have voted. I meant to get to it but simply forgot. I would have voted yes to both. Lets just throw caution to the wind and make the jet a really fun ride.

Anonymous said...

No to Reid and J.J. and Yes to Morgan and Garcia.

Garcia and Morgan are already a couple. They just have not taken the leap yet.

Anonymous said...

Heavens no on both polls. I don't want another CSI to watch where Grissom doesn't pick Lady Heather but dates mousy Sidle who is so wrong for him. Now CSI is a soap opera and it sucks. JJ is not right for Reid and Morgan is not interested in Garcia in that way.

This is my humble opinion so don't flame me please.

Anonymous said...

I'm torn. I've always said that we need more backstory and glimpses of their personal lifes but I'm not sure this is the way to do it. I would vote, have to wait and see it.

Anonymous said...

I love Reid. He is my favorite character on the show. I would like to see him date so he can mature and grow but I think it should be someone he does not work with. The problem I have is that he is always working so how would he ever meet anyone to kiss in a swimming pool again. I would vote no on J.J. though.

Anonymous said...

Sorry but no on both. It just does nothing for me. I don't see anything about it I would like but that is okay. I love the conversation and exchange of ideas.

Anonymous said...

Oh I would love to see Garcia and Morgan spend alittle time together. It doesn't need to take over the episode but a late night drink and dance after a case is done. Something like that would be great. Maybe a peck or two.

Anonymous said...

J.J. and Reid doing some flirting around with each other could be really cute. They are so sweet looking together.

Anonymous said...

Here is a thought: An orgy to welcome the new character. Only kidding but I would not mind in the least if one of the couples mentioned hooked up. Maybe sex would make one of them smile for a change. Garcia smiles but not that way!

PS. I'm finally back from the longest vacation in history. Hi everyone!!!!!

Anonymous said...

A little bit of dating wouldn't harm the show. These characters really deserve some type of social life. Something.

Anonymous said...

I'm not for either couple. I think that after a case is over they need to have lifes that do not include their co-workers but members of the real world. Just my opinion. Sorry to the shippers.

Anonymous said...

Remember when Gideon gave Reid baseball tickets and he invited JJ with him? I wonder if that was an attempt to see if Reid and JJ could work but then they decided it wouldn't and they ignored that storyline. Or perhaps that was just so Reid could have a "practice date" with a female friend (JJ) so he could go on more real dates in the future?

Anonymous said...

I think the total opposite of the majority of the voters! I think that those ships deserve a chance, especially reid and jj because I think it would be sweet and would take just a teeny bit of the dark focus off the show!

The Boss said...

I agree with you Tom, one of the best things about shows like CM are the underlying tensions between characters. These would be ruined if the characters dated, it has spelt disaster for many shows in the past.

Anonymous said...

I see both sides of the aisle. I don't have a strong opinion on either couple. I would wait to see it on the tube and then decide if I liked it or not. I do know that it could not in any way upstage the case they are working on. That I would dislike on point.

Anonymous said...

I am voting no for both of these polls. I want to see them profiling and not kissing.

Anonymous said...

Shipping characters has never appealed to me on any show I watch. I would vote no.

PAOLAFROMPARIS said...

Gublettes are jealous......I personally hate the idea our sweet doctor dating anyone!LOL!

Anonymous said...

I can see Garcia and Morgan going to the next level in their ongoing relationship but all we know about Reid and J.J. is that they were planning on going to a football game together. We have seen J.J. flirt with other men since then so obviously she doesn't see Reid in a romantic light. Neither do I.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Tom on this one. I would have voted no in both situtations too.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Libby. I think it is a case of been there and done that and it did not work out. I wouldn't want to see if revisited again.

Anonymous said...

I notice reading the polls that more voters were open to the idea of Morgan and Garcia dating than Reid and A.J. which is how I feel. A.J. is adorable, smart and sexy and Reid is our resident dork. I don't see that mixing well. Morgan is sexy, smart and a manly man and Garcia is the stars and the moon. That is a better combo in mho.

Anonymous said...

No to both for me. I like the show like it is and I don't want it to become a different format. I like talking about the episode stories and I don't want the conversation to switch to whether this one kissed that one. That gets old quick.

Anonymous said...

Reid and JJ together...it would be a dream!
Morgan and Garcia? Only best friends^^

Anonymous said...

I think that the polls should be open to anyone who is not a member of the groups mentioned as some of us are not and just read the blog and would like to take part , so how about an open vote and inculde cast members no longer in the show like lola and mandy

Anonymous said...

I would like that too if you could do that for us Jill.

In the meantime I have to say yes to Redi and JJ and I'm not sure to Morgan and Garcia. I think Garcia is like one of his sisters so there is an ick factor there for me.

Anonymous said...

I'd vote "hate it" for both

Anonymous said...

love the idea of a few dates between both couples. doesn't have to be hot and heavy but some socializing would be nice.

Anonymous said...

I'm not sure how I would vote. I have often thought that both couplings would be cute but the other side of the question is what would it do to the show. I think I would need to judge it if the writers did it after watching it.

slashgirl said...

I watch CM for the cases, not for the dating. Never mind the thought of Reid going anywhere near JJ as more than a friend makes me want to use some brain bleach, I think that the characters dating one another is a bad idea. (I agree with whoever said he's not JJ's type.) It's never a good idea to fish off the company pier.

If they decide to add SO's (significant others) for the single characters outside of work, I could handle that--as long as it's not the focus of the show. (Much as we see Haley once every few eps--I'd want any other SO's treated similarly).

To sum it up: If it ain't broke? Don't fix it.

I loved "The West Wing" but after a few seasons it all became a guessing game with two of the characters and whether they would ever get together. They did four years later during the show's finale. It lost it's luster after the first season of guessing. I would hate that to happen to CM so I am voting no.

Anonymous said...

I think JJ is the cutest lady on the planet and she could do better than Reid. She has it all together plus some. I think the idea is horrible so heck no from me.

Anonymous said...

Big nope. Never liked shipping and don't like it now.

Anonymous said...

Throw us in the "no romances among the regulars" side of the pool. PTB, please do not make our beloved CM a soap opera.

Anonymous said...

The coupling thing on crime shows is not for me. I vote no in both of the polls.

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't mind the Derek and Garcia match because they have a flirty type of history but Reid and JJ is a definate no for me.

Anonymous said...

I honestly just don't even like the idea of either couple. I think some personal interaction with members of the non BAU team would be nice. A boyfriend for Garcia is not a bad idea.

Anonymous said...

I said no to either couple because it would change the show. Instead of a crime drama it would be another soap opera. Like another poster said, would turn into "Desperate Profilers" or "Sex in the BAU" Instead of focusing on catching unsubs, the characters would be talking about, "How was your date last night?" and "Did you get any?" and blah, blah, blah.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the no votes on these polls.

Anonymous said...

I don't appreciate inter office realationships where I work. I think they expose both of the participants to future headaches so I would vote no for it on the show becaue I wouldn't want that to happen on the show either.

Anonymous said...

I really do think it would end up as a soap opera or aren't they calling them daytime dramas now? lol I like the show just like it is..perfect.

Anonymous said...

I like the Morgan & Garcia idea in theory but I would worry that it would ruin their relationship and I really enjoy their telephone conversations.

Anonymous said...

I've always hoped that Garcia and Derek would take it to the next step but I really do see the valid points some of you are making against it and they make sense.

Anonymous said...

I like the idea of all of them dating but not each other. It would be interesting to see them meet outsiders and actually go on a date. Have a life.

Anonymous said...

I would have voted against both couples. My husband says he would vote yes for Garcia and Morgan.

Anonymous said...

Reid & J.J. would be cute together but I am not sure that he could handle the distraction. Garcia and Morgan are perfect just like they are. I think they are more like siblings than anything else.

Anonymous said...

I think that reid and JJ should definetly become a couple but they should not get together for a long while, Mabey nearing the shows end.Any sooner than that it might be sort of a distraction to the rest of the show, But a hidden love for jj on reids part would and another level to the show that would make it more interesting to me.

Anonymous said...

no no no don't let it happen!!! Folks can watch "Survivor" and garbage such as that to see shipping....... they are already destroying good shows with it!!! (ie L&O SVU)
