CRIMINAL MINDS: "JONES" SPOILERS

What did you think of tonight's Criminal Minds episode "Jones"? Please post and let us know! Here are some preview caps! Enjoy.

Thanks to Lin, I have the quote: Robert Kennedy once said, "Tragedy is a tool for the living to gain wisdom, not a guide by which to live."

Anyone get the music?

There will be spoilers for Jones in the comments.

Jill's Announcement!!

From time to time in various Criminal Mind chats and in comments left on this blog we have wondered if the networks care about what the fans are saying about their shows and whether they see what we post on the internet. I am happy to report that I can now answer those questions. CBS does read what is written and does care what the fans think about Criminal Minds. I know this to be true because as you are reading this post I am on the set of Criminal Minds watching them film "Ashes and Dust" which will air March 21st. The circumstances surrounding this wonderful opportunity could not have been more thrilling if the writers of the show had scripted it themselves. I was approached awhile ago by a CBS executive inviting me to come to the set to meet the cast and watch them film. In the middle of planning the trip Linn came up with the wonderful idea of collecting pens for Kirsten. What very few people knew was that I would be able to hand deliver the pens to Kirsten in person.

I drafted this post for my blog a few days ago and as of last night turned the blog over to Stacy until I return home. Stacy has agreed to finalize this post today for me. I will not be in the chat this evening since filming runs fairly late into the day. TIVO will record "Jones" for me and I look forward to watching it when I get back home. I packed several sharpies, tons of TV Guides, Parade Mags and pictures to get signed. Three digital cameras are already packed and the presents for the cast are in my suitcases. I would like to thank Stacy for everything she has done to help me get ready for this adventure and for babysitting my blog. She has promised to not turn the blog into a Thomas Gibson shrine during my absence but lets all keep our fingers crossed.

I look forward to sharing the pictures, autographs and personal memories with you all very soon. I promise to take tons of pictures. I feel as though I am going as a representative for everyone who visits this blog and are members of the Yahoo groups that I run. I hope to do you all proud but the last time I met Mandy I was barely able to babble. Lets all hope I can form actual words this time.

Watch the show tonight and know that I am with you in spirit in the chat room after the episode. We have a large break between the airing tonight of “Jones” and the airing of “Ashes and Dust”. I am confident that this trip will provide us all with plenty of things to talk about and share while we wait for our favorite show to air the new episode. As a side benefit of the trip I am going to get to meet our adopted Criminal Minds star Kris. I am very excited about that as well. So watch “Jones” this evening and post lots of spoilers for me to look at when I get home. Talk with you all soon. Jill

Thomas Gibson as Aaron Hotchner

When the cat is away, the mouse will play (sorry, Jill, I just couldn't resist...)! If it's not obvious, this is being posted by Stacy (aka slashgirl)...

And how could I let this golden opportunity pass me by? For those who don't know me from the blog, yahoogroup or LJ, I'm a major Hotch (and Thomas Gibson) fangirl! I love the character and think Thomas Gibson is a truly talented actor (after seeing him in Dharma and Greg on DVD for the first time this year and seeing him as Hotch on CM? WOW!) who gives a wonderful performance in every episode, without fail. The fact that he's also a very handsome man is just icing on the cake!

CM is the best show on TV and I think that everyone involved in the production, from the producers, to the cast, the crew, and especially the writers deserve kudos for creating something so interesting, compelling and enjoyable! Thank you.

CRIMINAL MINDS: HANDMADE KNIT SOCKS ARE BLOWING MY MIND.

I have just finished boxing up all the pens and gifts that I have received so far. I did take pictures and I will post them tomorrow but I had to post this pic of the socks for Matthew Gray Gubler. Everyone sent wonderful pens, cards and gifts but one fan knit MGG socks. I think that is just about the coolest thing I have ever seen and this picture doesn't begin to do them justice. :)

CRIMINAL MINDS: PAGET BREWSTER

Brewster: From fringe to TV's mainstream
Sun, Feb. 18, 2007
By Mike Antonucci
Mercury News

Twelve years ago, Paget Brewster was billed as the ultimate discovery in fringe talent. A San Francisco TV station had given her a 1:30 a.m. talk show as ``an art school dropout who spent four years playing in a rock band, a former bartender, waitress, office temp and street singer.''

Today, Brewster is as mainstream a star as you'll find on TV. She's a recent addition to one of prime time's hottest dramas, ``Criminal Minds'' on CBS, and was in the forefront of the TV Guide cover photo that featured the show earlier this month.

She also entered the realm of eternal holiday reruns by playing the wife of Rob Lowe's character in December's made-for-TNT movie ``A Perfect Day.''

With that kind of success, Brewster can rely on publicity pros to trumpet her credits -- which include a breakthrough set of ``Friends'' episodes in 1997 and '98 -- and gloss over her dropout singing days in New York, living in a condemned building and too insecure to go to acting school.

It's a good thing Brewster, 37, doesn't do her own PR. Here are samples of what she's in danger of telling anybody who asks.

• On why she gets hired: ``I think I'm a good team player. I'm not a model, but I'm not ugly. I'm funny, I can act well enough, and after two hours of makeup, we've got a pretty good-looking broad. Big nose, but otherwise, pretty OK.''

• On life as an eligible celebrity: ``All I do is work, and I'm not going to mess around with anyone at work. I feel like I'm going to end up on Match.com. I need to be kissed, but I'm like catnip to guys who are too young for me.''

• On her first Hollywood agent: ``He was acting really squirrelly when I was meeting with him, and it turned out he was going to another agency, and he was trying to figure out how to get his files out of the building. So I said I'd steal his files for him if he took me with him to the other agency. I took them right down to my car, and he kept me.''

Pure begging persuaded a previous agent in San Francisco to arrange the meeting that landed Brewster her talk show on KPIX (Ch. 5). She was on the air in 1995 as sort of a wannabe Riki Lake, getting both fan and stalker letters.

In 1996, after the show was canceled, Brewster left for Los Angeles. She says the agent with the pilfered files invented a story about a TV network offering her a large contract, then enticed other networks to make frantic competing offers.

``I was meeting with network presidents in my first six days in L.A.,'' she recalls. ``Every place I went there was a fruit platter.''

The upshot was a deal with Fox that turned into a couple of years of making money but not achieving much, except for work in pilot episodes that didn't get picked up as series.

Then came the memorable episodes on ``Friends'' as Kathy, a woman who came between Joey and Chandler.

That was followed by roles in shows that did get picked up as series -- and which died so rapidly that TV writers began describing Brewster as a dreaded cancellation jinx.

``My name was being written as `Paget Brewster, show killer,' '' she says.

``Love & Money'' on CBS (1999) and ``The Trouble with Normal'' on ABC (2000) are largely forgotten; ``Andy Richter Controls the Universe'' on Fox (2002-03) was a critics' favorite but also flamed out quickly.

A dollop of stability arrived with ``Huff,'' a Showtime series (2004-06) in which Brewster played the wife of a problem-ridden psychiatrist (portrayed by Hank Azaria). ``Huff'' was hailed as a prestige show, and Brewster got good reviews. But some of the themes, which included suicide and sickness, required too much emotional investment.

``Acting that material made me personally unhappy,'' Brewster says. ``It was a great job to get, but I'd rather be funny or waving a gun.''

She's getting that latter wish on ``Criminal Minds,'' playing an FBI agent on a show that's now a flagship hit for CBS. What does Brewster add? ``Scissory sleekness,'' says Entertainment Weekly.

It's hard to predict what's ahead for her, but her acting career already has lasted years longer than she expected, not to mention that it's flourishing.

``It's actually fantastic,'' she says. ``Running around with guns drawn is really fun.''

More about Paget Brewster

• She played Ms. Indestructible in the superheroes movie ``The Specials'' that also featured Rob Lowe, Thomas Haden Church and Jamie Kennedy.

• Her career total for TV pilots (including the handful picked up as series): 16.

1998, “3rd Rock From the Sun,” 33.6 million, NBC
1999, “Family Guy,” 22 million, Fox

2006, “Grey’s Anatomy,” 38 million, ABC
2007, "Criminal Minds," 26.2 million, CBS
I am getting sick of reading negative reports pointing out that "Criminal Minds" did not do as well in the after Super Bowl spot as "Grey's Anatomy" did last year. It is like comparing an apple and an orange since both shows are completely different than each other. Lets just talk about the real truth for a moment and see where it gets us. Criminal Minds scored its highest ever ratings with "The Big Game". If I wanted to get snarky, and we all know I can from time to time, I could point out that no show has beaten the "Friends" record set in 1996. Does that mean that all the other shows were failures? No it doesn't. Personally I am thrilled with the overnight numbers. I have read no CBS Press Releases saying they had made the actors go stand in the corner so evidently they are happy with the numbers. The fans of the show enjoyed themselves and new viewers have been added to the fold. And if I might be allowed to get a bit snarky for just a moment then let me point out that the majority of negative articles showing up on the internet are the same article being printed verbatim and rehashed in all the local papers. God love the AP. I stand behind my opinion of the episode and I commend CBS's choice to air the show in such a coveted spot and I commend the writers, the crew and the wonderful cast who gave us such wonderful performances. Kudos to Mandy Patinkin, Kirsten Vangsness, Thomas Gibson, A.J. Cook, Matthew Gray Gubler, Paget Brewster and Shemar (I can dance) Moore.

WELCOME TO NEW CRIMINAL MINDS FANS & AN URGENT PLEA TO THE VETERANS

One of the things we fans were hoping for from the airing of "The Big Game" was an influx of new Criminal Minds fans. Judging by the emails I have received, and am still receiving, the show has accomplished that goal. I truly welcome all the show's newest fans and I hope you will not only tune in tomorrow for "Revelations" but continue to watch Criminal Minds from now on. It is a wonderful show and you have only had a taste of it. The best is yet to come. As I have explained to the many of you I have had the time to email back, amazon.com and most stores are still selling the Criminal Minds: Season One DVDs. Not only will you have all of the Season One episodes but the extras included are priceless.

I need help from my friends and fellow veteran fans. I want every email I have received to be answered as soon as possible but I am drowning. While the majority of the emails are from newbies asking general questions there are also dozens that are asking specific questions about both the show and the actors. Answering these emails, while a pleasure, is also requiring more time than I have. Help. I need help. If you can take the time to answer even just five or ten of these for me in a quick manner please let me know. I think it is very important to answer them quickly so they do not lose their new found interest in the show after they watch "Revelations" tomorrow evening. I thank you all in advance for any help you can give. :)

The lovely Jason Gideon drawing is from our wonderful friend Joey.

CBS FAST RATINGS FOR SUPER BOWL & CRIMINAL MINDS

CBS scores with Super Bowl ratings
According to preliminary results, more people watched Peyton Manning and the Colts win Super Bowl XLI than last year's big game.
By Paul R. La Monica, CNNMoney.com editor at large
February 5 2007: 2:23 PM EST
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Preliminary ratings for Super Bowl XLI showed that more people watched the Indianapolis Colts' victory over the Chicago Bears than last year's game featuring the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks.

According to a statement by CBS (Charts), which televised the game, the Super Bowl earned an average household rating of 42 and share of 63.

This means that 42 percent of all households in the U.S. were tuned into the game and that 63 percent of all households watching TV on Sunday night were watching the game.

These ratings, if they hold, are slightly higher than last year's ratings. And last year's game had been the most-watched Super Bowl since 1996. Last year's game, which aired on Walt Disney (Charts)-owned ABC, averaged a household rating of 41.6 according to Nielsen Media Research, and a household share of 62.

Nearly 90.7 million viewers tuned into Super Bowl XL last year. Figures for the number of viewers for this year's Super Bowl were not immediately available.

CBS also said that preliminary overnight ratings for a special episode of "Criminal Minds," which aired after the game, averaged a 15.3 household rating and 26 share, the highest ratings ever for the show, which usually airs on Wednesday nights at 9PM EST.

The average ratings for "Criminal Minds" this season are a 9.7 household rating and 15 household share, according to Nielsen Media Research.

But the post-Super Bowl episode of "Criminal Minds" did not appear to do nearly as well as last year's "Grey's Anatomy," which aired on ABC after Super Bowl XL. That episode averaged a 34 rating and a 21 share and was watched by 37.9 million viewers.

CRIMINAL MINDS PREVIEW SCREENCAPS FOR "THE BIG GAME"

The screencaps for Criminal Minds episode "The Big Game" will be updated later today thanks to slash_girl. She sent us a taste of the screencaps. Great performances by Mandy Patinkin, Shemar Moore, Matthew Gray Gubler, Thomas Gibson, Kirsten Vangsness, A.J. Cook and Paget Brewster. CBS gave the show a special opportunity and the whole cast, writers and crew lived up to the challenge. For those of us already invested in the show it was no surprise last night that they took the challenge and slammed it home. I hope they are all very proud of their hard work. Their fans are very proud of them. I know I am. :)

CRIMINAL MINDS YAHOO GROUP CHAT INFO:

The Criminal Minds Yahoo Group Chat will be held directly after the episode airs. Lets hope the Super Bowl doesn't go into overtime. Say a prayer today that the ratings for this episode are sky high and that every reporter that questioned CBS's decision to air Criminal Minds after the game has to admit on Monday that they were wrong and biased against the show. Maybe Mandy Patinkin, Shemar Moore, Thomas Gibson, Matthew Gray Gubler, Kirsten Vangsness, A.J.Cook and Paget Brewster will finally get the positive press attention they so absolutely deserve. :)
