I am a Paget/Emily fan and hope that the writes do a great job of writing her back into the show. I understand the mixed emotions that PB must be feeling about all that's happened. This may be a lesson to all to be careful what you write on all these social media sites/blogs/whatever. Think before you write. This is especially true if you are somebody with a lot of followers hanging on your every word. If this is a professional forum for you then be selective about what you say.

Anonymous said...

@Teresa
I think it is more to the point that some people on this blog should think before they write. I feel terrible that Paget felt she had to clarify herself on twitter. This is a fan site and it has sounded less and less like one lately. As fans we should support our show and our cast. Support Pager and understand her feelings, support Thomas and wish him well but don't complain that the contract negotiations are going on too long. These are his negotiations and pressure and complaining do not help the situation. All too often people come on here and make comments that are either incorrect or even mean spirited and later say "Oh sorry, I was wrong" So I say again, think before you write and remember being a fan means being supportive.
This comment is obviously not aimed at everyone but reading through these comments can be really depressing and I really hope the actors don't come here.
For those who claim to be sick of all the drama I suggesst you remove yourself from it. Millions of people are fans of the show and don't participate in blogs. I am not saying you shouldn't, I am saying if it upsets you to such a degree you would be better not to be so involved.
I have refrained from saying anything about all this until the comment that suggests Paget should learn to be careful what she says on her twitter. That is just over the top.

Another day, another drama-filled episode for Criminal minds. Funny, I thought this show was on hiatus.

Paget, I kind of get your frustration, but damn if it didn't hurt a little.

Maybe the fans shoulda have just shut up and suck it up Seaver and then Rachel Nichols who really wanted this job could stay, and you who appears to be over it, could go?

Should I send CBS e-mails and feedback and call and ask them to release you of your contract? Why not? I have done that already to get you back, I can do it again to set you free.

Sorry, now I'm a little frustrated. Because I was SO DAMN HAPPY to get you back, and now I'm feeling kind of guilty.

And still no news on Thomas Gibson.
I'm starting to think this is ALL a moot point. That TG won't be back and then what is the point of bringing the girls back anyway? If that is not a way to get this show to fail, I don't know what is.

Teresa H. said...

@Annonymous between my two comments. As my second post, which I had started to write before you posted, I am sorry for coming off preachy.
And you're right, we're feeding on the drama.
I'm not sure I agree with you that we have to suspend all critical faculties as fans of any celebrity. They are not infallible, even the ones we love.
That said, I repeat that I understand how this must be a very difficult time for Paget right now with lots of conflicting emotions and I wish her a great Summer vacation and hope for great things for her and Emily next season.

Teresa H. said...

I hope I have not set off a storm like the ones that tore through us between some RN fans and those who did not like Seaver.
I hate conflict so perhaps I shoul shut up.

Magdalena said...

I think everyone should take a deep breath and please stop jumping to conclusions about things that someone may or may not say. I remember when RN said she was slated to come back and everyone thought that it was a done deal that she was coming back despite the fact that at the end of that tweet she said she hoped nothing would change, and despite the fact that slated is not a definite word. It ended up that the network did not pick up her option and like the person above me just said people were like "Oh, I guess it didn't mean that." But they had a field day with Erica Messer over that one and the fact although it has been said repeatedly that Messer does not call the shots, the network does. Messer provides input that the network can listen to or not. Messer is an employee, not Les Moonves. She runs the show but only the way the network will allow her to run it. Now Paget's tweets something that I absolutely took to mean what she said, that she didn't like the way that she was coming back, but that she loves CM, the cast and the crew. Despite that, again, people were jumping to conclusions saying that she wasn't happy to return, etc. Even before she tweeted that, based on the Deadline article, people were painting a picture of a bitter Paget who was hating coming back to CM. She had to go back and clarify, come on, that is ridiculous that she had to do that because people were already assuming things that she did not say.

I think it would benefit people to stop trying to decipher things that aren't being said, or trying to turn things into what they aren't.

Magdalena said...

Anonymous, please read Paget's clarification tweet. She CLEARLY says that she loves CM, the CM fans and feels great to be back. It is the network she isn't too thrilled about but they are two seperate things.

Magdalena said...

Paget's tweet:

"To clarify. I HATE being shoved around. I LOVE everyone at CM + CM fans. Those are two separate things. And, yes, it IS great to be back..."

Moving on......

Velandra said...

anonymous above Theresa: I would rather have no one than R.N. back. I'm going to leave it at that. It would be good for all of us to stop trying to read between the lines and just take things at face value. She loves the cast, crew and fans and is happy to be back. I'm sure we can all agree that we are happy to have her back!

Magdalena said...

Velandra, agree with you on all things that you posted now.

I love readng TG's tweets. Is the man ever unhappy about anything? He's letting Nathon Fillion know that Susan Sullivan is his tv mom and that she was his tv mom longer than his tv mom and therefore loves him more. : )

Teresa H. said...

I have a VHS (yes, I'm a dinosaur) copy of Love and Human Remains, starring Thomas Gibson and directed by the talented Canadien, Denys Arcand. Last weekend I took it with me when I visited some friends who are also CM fans, just not quite so fanatic
as I. They loved it. If you haven't seen it get your hands on it and check it out. It's a whole lot of fun.

sf81387 said...

This is a fan site and it has sounded less and less like one lately. As fans we should support our show and our cast.

It hasn't sounded like a fan site in over a year and I believe the common battle cry was that we have to let them know we're unhappy or they won't change anything. Sorry, after the way Rachel Nichols was shown ZERO support, I think it's a bit bold to suggest that support start flowing unconditionally now.

Thomas!...Contract!....Now!!! : )

What? I put a happy face on the end there. That way he gets my impatience and support all in one. ; )

sf81387 said...

Teresa, of all the movies TG has done, "Love and Human Remains" is probably my favorite.

Carla said...

Stating that you liked the character that she played on the show when you didn't, or simply not saying anything about the character at all if you didn't like the character is not honest. You needn't go on some bashing spree about the actress playing the character, no, but you certainly don't have to remain silent about the fact that you did not like the character. Support does not equal agreeing with the character, however, there should always be respect. I'm not saying this is what you were referring to sf, just wanted to make that clear on my end and maybe for others.

sf81387 said...

Carla, let's not even rehash this old argument. The fact of the matter is that she was shown no support and I can't even imagine how awful it must've been for her if she actually read any of the nastiness that went on for months. So to suggest now that we all join hands, sing Kumbaya and just love and support the show and the cast unconditionally is a bit much.

I happen to agree with you though and in the same light I would say that support does not equal agreeing with comments or decisions made by a cast or crew member. Stating that you liked a statement or decision when you didn't, or simply not saying anything about the statement or decision at all if you didn't like it would be dishonest. Yes?

Therefore rallying for everyone to spew unconditional love and support even when they don't feel it is warranted is dishonest and that was pretty much the point I was trying to make.

Teresa H. said...

sf81387,
I just love him in Love and Human Remains. Also like him in Tales of The City. He was also good in the other Denys Arcand movie, Stardom. This had a huge cast though and it was not a big vehicle for him. Would love to see him in more non formulaic work. I think he has the talent. Have you ever seen "I'll Believe You"? It seems quirky but could also be totally stupid,
Once, in a fit of fandom and not knowing what's happening next season, I wrote that I would watch him in whatever he was in. This is not true however. He has been in some awful "made for TV" movies. Raising Waylon has some redeeming qualities, esp the chemistry between TG and Poppy Montgomery but the others are rather lame. To be honest, I'm somewhat torn; selfishly I want him back on CM but I would really like to see him find something that stretches him and showcases him as a complicated/nuanced/multilayered character.

Teresa H. said...

I'm on a roll tonight. My excuse is that I have been cooking with wine and not all of it is going into the food.
I still want to see TG and Paget as Gomez and Moticia Adams. I think that would be a blast.

Carla said...

I am an honest person, if I don't like something, I don't like it and I say so. If people want to agree, cool, if not, cool and oh well. I think the point is to get your opinion across without having to denigrate another person or persons. There is no need to get nasty, but simply stating that you don't like a character and why is not nasty. It is just the truth for the person saying it and as long as they say it in a respectful way, whoever can't handle that, well, that is there problem not the person who is sharing their opinion. If she happened to ever see any of my objections to the character, or for what I think was the majority of the posters here objections to the character who said that in a respectful way and chose to take that as not being shown support or nasty, well, that is her perception. I am not going to stay silent about something I don't think fits, but I will make sure to be respectful about it and if I ever cross the line I would hope people would tell me and I'd apologize quickly. Yes, there were nasty comments here, but from what I saw, that was not the bulk of the comments. On other forums, yes, it got downright nasty towards the character she played and her, but even on those forums, the majority of the comments focused on the ones that have been hashed out here over and over i.e. cadet in the BAU, etc. For me, this character was just completely out of the realm for the show and that is not something that I could just ignore or in amyway support. I forget who, but someone once said that remaining silent may have led TPTB to believe that this character was okay with some people. Silence is sometimes perceived as a sign that something is okay and/or as a sign of support for a decision that is maybe not agreed on.

The fact of the matter is that the character she played is no longer on the show and in my opinion that was the correct decision based on many different factors. I don't wish this actor any bad luck, that would be stupid and completely uncalled for on my part. If she ever ends up on something that I happen to see like a movie, then alright, she'll be there and I'll evaluate her in whatever she is in based on whatever she is in, not CM. I think the best thing to do now is just move forward hoping that TG will get signed back on the show and that the writing will get stronger.

CMFAN11 said...

Ok so after seeing these comments I can't help but ask do y'all (yes I'm a Texan if y'all can tell don't hate) lol but do y'all think cast members read these sites or something for PB to clarify? Just wondering.

Also I agree let's all support Paget in coming back. Especially since we were the driving force that got her and AJ back. No reason to give her a reason to get confused when we got what we wanted.

Once again I mean no offense to anyone, merely stating my opinion. Now all we can do is hope, campaign, email and complain to get TG his contract

Pat said...

I think what Paget is saying is like, you love your job and the people that you work with, and the people that you work for, you just don't particularly like the machinations of your boss. I can totally understand and support that.

I agree with you Carla that if you see something about the show that is negative, it's not unsupportive to say it. I think it's better that we all made our feelings clear this past season, whether it be in relation to the releasing of PB and AJC or the Seaver character, or the decline as a whole in the writing. If we say nothing, TPTB will think we're quite happy with it. Now they know we weren't and are getting to business to improve things. I think in that way, we on this blog supported the show the best way we could. We held it up to the standard we'd come to expect of it.

This is also a place for opinions and opinions will differ on everything, how well the show was written to if your favorite character got enough time. I think that's fine. None of us will agree on everything and if we did this blog would be very boring to read and participate in. Fortunately, we get great conversations going most of the time and it's one of my favorite places to come.

Re TG's tweets to Nathan Fillion - i can just picture JJ giving them that look and saying "boys, behave, or i'll ground you both". Laughing so hard right now.

Blue Sunflower said...

I'm not really buying Paget's indentured servitude plea. She didn't have to sign her contract last June, and the fact is CBS is bringing her back to a *better* contract than the one she left. CBS did after all basically get down on their hands and knees and beg her back last January.

sf81387 said...

I love readng TG's tweets.

You still read them? At the CBS.com site you said you'd unfollowed him.

LunaM said...

I think Paget wanted to be back, but she just would have felt more comfortable/better had that been entirely her choice and not due to a contract she signed last year. Of course she's still hurt and fed up with the network, IMO. But I think it's clear that she loves CM and is looking forward to coming back. I for one am happy she's back. Our main concern right now should be, IMHO, that TG finally gets his contract, because without Hotch all the recent efforts of TPTB would be for nothing, JMO.

No Hotch/TG, no CM for me.

Iulya said...

I have NO DOUBT she loves CM ( cast, crew and fans ) - remember she NEVER wanted to leave in the first place and I think she's happy to be back.

But it's how it got there that bothered her and let's face it the way CBS handled it bothered everyone.

I understand where Paget is coming from and I totally support her.
Yes, she signed the contract but remember the circumstances from last year.... AJ had to leave, they get Paget's no of episodes reduced and then even though they offered full number of episodes there was NO guarantee that she would have a future with the show tbh.
So to give herself a chance at something new she had to agree with the CBS safe option.

So rather then negociate a contract for season 7 from equal footing where both parts agree she's thrown in a situation where she doesn't have the chance to SAY yes or no or how the contract goes.

Just saying that sometimes in order to be happy It matters how you got to the result not just the result u get

hey it would have been nice if you could have had something appear on the screen at the end of "supply and demand" about Andy Swan. Something like dedicated to a good friend.

gubegirl said...

People: She's coming back. Forgive her if PB impulsively tweeted something that does not sit well with you. The important thing is we are glad she is returning and so is she. We were not there to know all the facts and that's what she is referring to, most likely.

Anonymous, I think an epi just after Andy Swan died was dedicated to him; I'm pretty sure that I show the re-run recently from last year: it said "In memory of Andy Swan."
Pretty sure.

But it would have been nice to mention it again...we might not have known that the more recent one was also a tribute and what Erica was trying to accomplish if not for the interview with her, right?

No idea what you're talking about. I never have and never will post at a CBS.com site. Didn't even know it existed. Either someone is impersonating me or you're confused. Why would I unfollow TG or any of them for that matter.

Hmm, not sure what to make of PB's tweets. She is happy to be back, but.. sort of thing?
Hell, can anyone be happy about this train wreck that was season 6?I just want it to be a bad dream sequence for someone next season, maybe the result of one of Reid's headaches!
To be honest, I am frankly sick and tired of all the on and off screen drama with this show. I was not going to come back as a viewer after the JJ episode, but I did for the Lauren one. Now I feel as if the fans and viewers got invested in these emotional stories for nothing, because they are now both coming back anyway, and that the entire arc was for nothing as well.I feel 'cheated',letdown and most of all p((^ed.
More and more each day it makes me wish I had stayed away. As I said, too much drama going on, and frankly, I just don't think any show, or my fave character(Reid, who is basically banished nowadays!) is worth it anymore. I shall stick to my season 1-5 dvd's when I at least recognized this show as Criminal Minds and could enjoy it without all the crap.
SORRY.

I agree, TG's tweets are light-hearted, funny and timely. You wouldn't know he was in the middle of protracted contract negotiations, if we weren't such CM fanatics. His tweets make it seem as if he doesn't have a care in the world. He's always so positive.

I hope his warm spirit and good will are rewarded with a lucrative contract from ABC/CBS, which he so richly deserves. And I hope it happens soon.

Jessica said...

It would make absolutely no sense for CBS to not give TG a new contract. The fan uproar for AJ and PB was bad. But with a large number of the show's viewers being women, not renewing a popular and loved male cast member would be really really bad for the show. It makes no sense for them to make the same mistake as last year. But IMO, this would be an even BIGGER mistake. They gambled that no AJ and PB would be ok with the fandom and they lost that bet. If they gamble that no TG would be ok with the fandom will have the same result - it is NOT ok with the fans.

I want the WHOLE team, CBS! No Hotch, No CM for me.

I'm sorry, CM, I've been a loyal fan for 6 years, I even lasted during this season, but I'm going to say it, I'm NOT watching this show without Gibson.

I put up with losing JJ, my favorite female character, I held strong when we lost Emily, I even tried with Seaver, but losing Hotch is too much. I'm not saying I'm going to give it a try, I'm not saying I'm going to see it once in awhile, I'm saying I'm not watching the next season, period.

I really, really thought CBS had learned at least ONE thing about the MESS they created last season, I can't believe they may be repeating their mistakes from last season.

You better bring Thomas Gibson back, otherwise I'm automatically done with Criminal Minds and every other show in your network too.

Why is spoiler tv reporting that season 7 may start without Gibson? Because he is not a lock and the writers won't write him in for the first episodes?

I really, really hope the writers are including Hotch in the first episodes.

Roshini said...

Well Anonymous, I guess Paget could follow the "class" example that you have just set forth in that post, but then, that wouldn't be demonstrating much class now would it.

Well, if CBS doesn't re-sign Thomas Gibson, I'm sure Harry's Law, The X-Factor, I Hate My Teenage Daughter, Modern Family, Happy Endings and America's Next Top Model, all will like to thank CBS for helping their ratings go up.

I mean, we are talking something between 13 to 15 million viewers up for grabs if the lead of criminal minds is no longer a part of the show and the audience is done with all of this messing around they have been doing.

Way to go CBS! Helping the competition by hurting your own shows.

Wendy said...

I think that what is best FOR THE SHOW is for the cast to remain in tact. If they continue to do this to the cast, if the AJ & PB fiasco were not lessons learned and they do that to TG, what is stopping them from doing it to the rest of the cast next year??? SO. As a true fan of the show I am standing up for the rights of the cast. NO MORE MESSING WITH THE CAST AND THE SHOW. I’m putting my foot down and changing the channel if they don’t stop this nonsense. Leave the cast alone. Give Gibson a contract.

Does anyone know when ION will start broadcasting S6? I think Fri. night they showed the finale of S5. This is not for me. Apart from possibly the last 3 episodes I have no interest in watching reruns of those episodes. I have a friend who catches random episodes on ION and loves them. I don't know if she has ever seen a first run episode on CBS. It's great. She loves talking to me about the show/the characters/the actors. A few months ago I taped(yes,as I have admitted before I'm a dinosaur) all the Reaper episodes to bring her up to date on that story arc. All my other friends roll their eyes at this stage. With her I have another chance, besides here, to feed my addiction.

I am just going to cut and paste Peggy's comment made earlier on the blog.

ABC Studios and CBS, stop trying to extract every dime you can from these actors, FOR YEARS, you have been paying these actors crap pay. You lucked out in that the contracts they had before did not reflect, nor could have it anticipated, the success the show was going to be. There is no denying that this show is a success and it is a success thanks to the cast, among which include Thomas Gibson. Stop trying to do everything in your power to destroy this show and for once, FOR ONCE, do right by this show without the fans having to write these sorts of messages to you!

Peggy said:

"The team is nearly intact except for Hotch. CBS, what in the hell is going on? I cannot believe that Thomas Gibson is asking for some overinflated amount of money per episode that you so willingly forked over to some of the actors on your other shows. Does the last name Sheen ring a bell? No, well, how about David Caruso who is the lead on a show that was just inches away from being canceled. The last time I read, David Caruso was making $375,000 per episode on a show that didn't even crack the top ten. What kind of foolery is this CBS!

According to Deadline, Criminal Minds came in 17th in series rankings for adults 18-49 (you know, the demo that pays the bills!), CSI Miami came in 42nd place. In total viewers, Criminal Minds came in 10th place (tying with CSI). CSI Miami came in 21st place.

Thomas Gibson is a big factor in what has led to the success of this show. Since day one, he has shown nothing but dedication to this show and has worked tirelessly along with the rest of this cast to turn this show into the success that it is, despite the dreadful lack of promotion on your end. Speaking of promoting the show, Thomas Gibson has appeared on many shows this past year promoting Criminal Minds. From what I know, David Caruso hasn't done nearly the amount of promotion for CSI Miami that Thomas Gibson has done for Criminal Minds. I'd think that earning $375,000 per episode would include doing a little promotion here and there, but I guess I'm wrong.

It is unbelievable to me that you would correct some of the errors that you've made this past season to only completely drop the ball on Thomas Gibson. You have been kicking this show in the teeth since the end of season 4 when you fired the majority of the shows top writers and for the life of me I don't know why. If money is an issue in these negotiations, then PAY UP! Thomas Gibson has more than earned his keep and then some!"

Unless the trip to Europe -- you poor unfortunate people - haha! ;-)) -- is part of the obligations of his previous contract I assume TG wouldn't go if he didn't have to AND didn't want to come back to CM (I think that makes sense - it's getting late). I'd also assume it's a freebie in that the network are paying? I wouldn't blame him for going, although I've turned down two free trips to Paris (with work) in under a year. If it isn't Germany/Austria/Switzerland I won't set foot on the mainland!

@ Gubegirl:
Yeah, we have a bad habit of randomly mixing metric and imperial measurements over here. It comes in useful in the US as we can adapt to imperial and in Continental Europe when the metric system is the only way to go. Although you folks still haven't worked out on which side of the road to drive! ;-))

p.s. Took a load of EC into work today for the techies (think Chuck's Nerd Herd crossed with The Big Bang Theory) - my Source couldn't eat it as he also has a nut allergy so I had to get them an extra box of choccies. (Keeping them sweet for when my laptop occasionally throws a wobbler).

p.p.s. Been a cheesy 80s tunes binge tonight - Currently New Order's "Low Life" album. Google the cover - anyone else reckon the bloke on the cover looks a bit like a distorted version of Hotch?!

@ Sergio the Cat:
I googled for that photo of the 70s porn star moustache everyone's mentioning & nearly spat tea over my laptop (again!) - what a top bloke!

We should insist TG & Sergio are re-signed as a package deal.

TG's 'tashe has to be part of the deal though...

Glad Brewster and AJ are coming back. I love Morgan, Garcia, Reed and Emily so I'm glad they'll all be together again. I didn't care about AJ but so many seemed to miss her so I'm relieved more than anything that she's back.

What’s on my mind … Thomas Gibson's contract or the lack there of, this is bad ... so bad, not trying to sound overly dramatic or anything here but this is so worrying now!!

CBS/ABC could you please please get with it and give the man his contract and put us all out of our misery. I'm sure that Erica and her team will be ever so grateful too to have some closure on TG's contract, and be able to move ahead with planning season 7.

I love love love Penelope! The way she is always so stylish in her glasses makes me want to wear glasses myself. I wrote a blog post about her glasses fashion! http://www.readingglassesshopper.com/blog/2011/05/penelope-garcia-on-criminal-minds/

From English CM Fan - long time no hear! Just watched the last in season 6. Ecstatic about AJ and didn't know about Padget until reading the blog. Great. Even my husband picked up on the story line about a cadet fully functioning in an elite BAU unit and found it difficult to swallow and he loces Rachel Nicholls and thinks she's a better actress than AJ. I've always wanted AJ back. Haven't read all the blog as there's like 600 plus so need to see if there's any update on TG. Really really hope he does sign up but if not, I was gutted when Gideon left but I eventually got over it. Didn't like Joe Montague for the whole of the season he joined because I wanted Gideon back but am really endeared to his character now. MG still my favourite so I hope they up the game of his character in 7, still a bit too left out in season 6 tho not as muh as in 5. Did notice TG and Joe Mont's characters a bit side lined too but I guess u can't write major threads for every character every season. Loved the latter episodes. Well written, well directed, lots of the old character idiosynchrasies evident in season 1 but not always developed in later seasons, looking forward to season 7, hopefully with TG. All in all a good redemption. Sorry for Rachel Ns but the character wasn't well thought out though some nice touches to try and introduce a newby and see them grow up in the team, bit like Reid in seasons 1 and 2 I guess but sadly didn't work for Seaver. Yeay CM. I am a truly happy fan.
