Criminal Minds: What's on your mind? Use this thread to discuss Criminal Minds starring Joe Mantegna, Thomas Gibson, Paget Brewster, Shemar Moore, Matthew Gray Gubler and Kirsten Vangsness.
Ha ha.. guess I am one of teh ones that you would consider are "trashing" Seaver because I am in complete agreement with what others have said about that character. The character is not, in my opinion, a good addition to the show.
"Living with it," love the pun! Needless to say, I agree 100% with you and others about the Seaver character and I will keep on saying it just as I have said other things about the show that I think are off as well as things I think are great.
Thanks for providing this place to share our thoughts and opinions!
Just because a viewer likes a particular show does not mean s/he has to like every character on that show. I have watched more than one show where I couldn't stand a particular character, but I continued to watch the show because I loved it overall. I love Criminal Minds as it currently is, but that does not mean I have to accept or like a particular character to continue to watch and enjoy it. There are fans of CM that don't even like all the main characters and complain about some of them regularly, but they continue to watch it, because they like the show overall. There are people who are longtime fans of CM, and STILL cry about Gideon leaving three years ago. I accept that Rachel Nichols is right now a series regular, but that in no way means I have to accept or like the character of Ashley Seaver. And I'm not going to stop watching a show I like, but I am also not going to stop complaining about her if I continue to dislike the character.
To add to the last point, if I may, it is important that the good, bad, and the ugly be shared with the writers and producers of shows. I think it is helpful in seving as a barometer of the sentiments with regard to a specific character and/or episode. In part, that is why I believe there are forums such as this to share ones thoughts, as well as focus groups, and network websites. If more shows had this type of arena where fans could share their thoughts and views, I think many of those shows would be in better shape than they are now because the writers and producers would have a feel for what characters and style of writing are working and not working.
just saw the promo and I was all "OMG SOOO EXCITED YESS REID REID REID - "So this all could have been religious" -WHAT THE HECK?"
Her sudden question threw me for a loop there. Here I was, listening to Hotch, Prentiss, Rossi, and Reid bounce intelligent ideas off each other and being all profiler, and suddenly there's this question even a child who had been listening to Reid, probably wouldn't have even asked.
Now before you start refuting my point, I understand that she is a cadet, but are they really that bad at listening and analyzing what has just been presented to them? Honestly, if Seaver's useless questions are representing cadets in the FBI, I think it's quite insulting to the cadets.
So yeah, I guess the phrase "too good to be true" came into play here. The first few minutes of the promo was sooooo good and then BAM she had to go and open her mouth.
Hopefully in the actual episode, not everything that comes out of her mouth will be a question.
Yet another disappointment tonight. As a Hotch fan, I'm disgusted. An entire episode without him followed by another episode where he was window-dressing. Appreciate that it was Reid-centric but still far too much Morgan. Seriously, if you think the show can survive the lack of screen-time for TG and MGG, think again.
I hope you have the guts to listen to the feedback. Thanks for the forum to voice our frustration.
I agree with almost all comments I have read about how annoying Seaver is and how the absence of J.J. is keenly felt. Why did they have to go and mess with a great thing?! Seaver feels like such a weakling compared to the strong presence of J.J. I'm taking solace in all of the old episodes on ion...
It's interesting to observe the re-emergence of the tremendous rage over AJ's firing. There was an avalanche when it was first announced this past summer. Then it sort of died down, until they aired "JJ" and it came back full force. So many people were unaware of her firing until her last episode, and they did not take it well. Then it sort of died down again as people grudgingly accepted it. But these past couple episodes since Ashley's been introduced, and it is clear she is a series regular character now, the anger is back full force and it seems to only be getting stronger. And it's not like the audience is not accepting Ashley because of their anger over JJ's departure. Rather, it's the unrealistic nature of Ashley's character, her physical resemblance to JJ, and the comparative blandness of her personality. Her addition highlights the hole left by JJ even more, and many are angry that AJ was sacrificed for this. Every time Ashley is on screen, the audience is reminded that JJ is gone and it incites tremendous anger. I honestly don't think there would still be this much residual anger if Ashley wasn't a series regular. Most people would move on and deal, but now we have a constant reminder of what the team lost and what it did not gain in return.
I think that episode was great! Reid is my favorite character and I really relate to him in many ways and hope that there are many other epsiodes to come about his life. Also, I do have one complaint I was in love with the theme music and I do not like the changes that were made.
Can't sit back and enjoy when things are written so terribly; just like many people stop reading books that are terrible, they just can't get through it because it is so poor.
Criminal Minds is one of my favorite shows. It is such a good show that I got my sisters interested in watching it, and they have come to love it as much as I do. All of my sisters including me think that A. J. Cook should return to criminal minds, and we also think that Paget Brewster should stay on every episode of the show. My sisters and I have come to love each member on Criminal Minds because they are families, and they get along really well. We do not want to see the family separated. I do not want the show to be cancelled because this is the first time; I got my sisters interested in something that I love. The loyal fans out there, including myself and my sisters are pleading with CBS to keep the Criminal Minds family together. CBS should give us the fans of Criminal Minds the chance to voice our opinions because we know like and do not like. The Criminal Minds team belongs together, and they should rightfully stay together.
i find it really odd how much of a let down "The Thirteenth Step" was, and then the new episode was like, really messed up (in a good way). the writing seems to be forming a pattern, but i don't really like it. i've been worried that spencer will leave the bau this season. corazon kind of made me worry more, and then there's nothing about what was going on with him the past two episodes. which i dislike. i miss jj a lot, and i'm not very happy to hear about prentiss leaving (although i do wonder what her reason is). as far as character stories go, this season is pretty intense.
Just adding one more voice to those who can't stand Seaver. What is this little girl doing there? I hope, given the anger rising over the exit (possibly) of Prentiss and the ongoing fan frustration with A.J.'s release from the show - that CBS will come to its senses soon, and keep Brewster aboard.
The great news is that Matthew Gray Gubler is directing again. :)
I don't care for the new season period. it's not the same without aj. now paget. i don't like the new girl. i can hardly stand it. i still love the morgan/garcia moments!

I enjoy the shows very much, this is entertaining us, youre not supposed to analyze and critique it, just sit back and enjoy it :)
