I really have to disagree with you on this Allie but I still luv ya! I thought the episode was great. Wonderful cliffhanger imho.
It did exactly what a season finale is supposed to do: leave you anxiously awaiting the next season. Judging by the amount of speculation going on, I'd say it more than achieved that goal. People are going crazy trying to figure it out. And it is kind of sad that the rest of the ep is being greatly ignored in favour of the ending, but it was so gripping and it left us breathless. We want an answer! We love these characters and we just want to know that they're all okay. I can't wait to rewatch it again.
I finally have some time to post my thoughts about the episode. I thought it was GREAT.
I think the tarot card is a clue!
I think that if you watch where the car is when it blows you will realize it was infront as was Morgan's but it was a different make and model. I don't think any of their cars blew up.
I personally think no one gets hurt by the explosion but when the team responds to the explosion I think someone will get injured then.
I think the title of the episode itself is a major clue.
The car explodes and then when they respond by getting out of their cars then somebody is shot or their is a second explosion.
Remember Prentiss said that she thought it was death by cop. Terrorists believe that dying for their cause makes them martyrs. Whoever the actual target is will probably be shot. Personally I wonder if Prentiss is the target. Her mom's job could be the link. I think Joyner is also a likely possibility.
I think Eddy B should be spanked for making us wait like this. But at least this time we aren't chasing butterflies and reading prose like our last cliffhanger. *g*

I think as I am not a regular viewer, I can offer a different perspective. This was the first Criminal Minds episode I’ve seen, and I am now hooked. I had watched it because I am a fan of Sienna Guillory who played Kate Joyner. Its fun to read all the comments about her looking like the wife of Hotch, that is very interesting for later development.
First there is story potential there between Joyner and Hotch. Why introduce her, and make it a point that she looks like this Haley person, and that she worked with Hotch before at Scotland Yard? Only if they intend to add more depth to this story arc into the next season.
Second, according to Morgan, Hotch is focused on Joyner and is watching out for her welfare. (asking her when was the last time she slept and making Morgan stand down, and even taking the case in person at the beginning of the episode). Why do those things if Joyner is a throw away character that gets killed in a blast or shot? They are hinting there is more to this story arc.
My theory. One of the main characters is killed in the explosion and someone is badly injured too. It was hinted before at the end , with one of the hooded terrorist picking up a pistol and kissing it, that they were going to go shoot someone. So someone is blown up, and then there is a shooting. Joyner and Hotch are not seen getting into a vehicle. I can imagine that Joyner is a target for a shooting, but Hotch is with her. He is already being protective, so my theory is he gets in the way and takes the bullet. Morgan, seems to be the person ready to take command of BAU, but he has to work with Joyner. Both will be motivated to cooperate, because Morgan will want to make the bad guys pay for killing one of the members and injuring the boss. Joyner is motivated because Hotch took a bullet for her, and they are friends. So this creates a better professional relationship between Morgan and Joyner. She already respects that he speaks his mind.
That is my two cents.
Also, Sienna Guillory was suppose to be in another series on Fox (The Oaks), but the network passed on the series. So she is available for more episodes now in the fall. Here is another thought, what if she ends up leading the BAU? LOL. Many scenarios can be imagined.

JJ is the one injured and in his anger/grief, Will joins the team.
I'm now with those that don't think ANY of our team was in that particular vehicle. Maybe it was some kind of suicide bombing or something and one or more of the BAU team members were in the vicinity of the blast and therefore could have gotten seriously injured by it. I'm still going with Hotch myself.
What's funny is that I've already run into two other CM fans off-list and they were doing the exact same thing, with regard to speculating about who got blown up on CM, as we are on this list. LOL! The show definitely has gotten everybody excited.
I just rewatched the last bit on youtube and from what I can see it looked like the SUV was stopped at a red light, not parked beside the sidewalk. So without having anymore car details it's hard to figure out whose car it was or even if it was one of the teams SUVs.

The death card is likely to signal transformation, passage, or change. It doesn't nec. seem to mean death.
You all need to stop concentrating on the explosion and examine the episode itself. I think all the clues are in the first 40 minutes and not the last few.
OMG. I finally got to see it. I've been traveling with my parents. It was awesome. My mind is racing with questions and theories. I can't wait to watch it again. First thought is that Prentiss was the real target or the British agent. I think the bombed car is a red herring. I think whatever is going to happen next is the real crisis. Loved it.
I liked Slashgirl's observation about him kissing his gun. That has to mean he is about to use it. Question then is who does he shoot? I think Hayler with an accent and Hotch is injured in the fallout from her shot.
I am also in disbelieve that they were bested Garcia with their tech skills. We are going to have one pissed off tech princess on our hands when this is over.
The BAU was only in NYC for about a week so would it be possible for a terrorist cell to assemble and implement a plan this elaborate in that amount of time or did they just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Hate cliffhangers. I think Ed owes us cookies galore next season for doing this to us!
I think the producers of CM and ER must have gone out for drinks and come up with basically the same situations for their finales. I am not officially in hell waiting for my two shows to come back.

Hi Agnes! I real the same way. All my shows left with cliffhangers. Totally sucks but CM's was really good. I have no clue to what is going to happen. I will wait for the rest of you to enlighten me. I never figured out The Fisher King. :(
I had to think awhile before posting. Cliffhangers suck big time. No kidding. So frustrating but this one actually had a twist.
I disgree about it being the Brittie because it has been posted on the web that she comes back for several episodes during season four. Unless they have her die a very slow death plus Ed said it is a member of the BAU that is injured so that means nobody has to actually have died.
Prentiss' really first case with the BAU was the terrorist case she worked on with Reid and Gideon. We learned that she was fluent in Farsi. I think since these appear to be home grown terrorists then it is not likely that her Farsi is going to save her butt this time.
What impressed me about that terrorist episode was that I never realized how Gideon was manipulating him with what time of day it was. I had no clue. I think the writers are great at misdirection so I think they played us with this episode and the best is coming in September.
PS.....no pain meds for Reid, don't injure Morgan's face, Garcia is still recovering from being shot, JJ is pregnant and that would be horrible, Hotch just got divorced and is upset about his son and I just started liking Rossi. So whatever you writers have planned please be gentle!
I think the person who gets blown up is the NYPD detective--the older one who was on the force when Son of Sam was happening. Prentiss was talking to him outside the hospital. I think the terrorists were targeting the two detectives who were already working the case. Didn't Prentiss comment that the shooting of the younger detective seemed weird, because the guy could have gotten away? Instead, he waited for them and shot the detective very deliberately. To me, it seems logical that they would try to kill both of the detectives. Since the older one had been in the hospital for hours waiting for the surgery to end, terrorists would have time to plant a bomb. They'd know what he was driving if they followed him or they may have seen it on one of the cameras they hacked into.
Didn't Ed say that no one was going to die, but someone would be seriously injured? So why do people keep assuming the British agent is killed?
I've not commented yet. I loved the episode. It was exciting and left me with a scream. Kudos to CM.
after watching it for the 5th time i still don,t no who got hurt. this was a great season cliff hanger. it keep me on the edge of my seat.i got hook on criminal minds almost 2 years ago at thanksgiving. i so glad i found this show.
I think it was either Morgan, Hotch or the British agent who is the one who was either killed or severely injured. I wouldn't be surprised if it is Morgan because Shemar may be ready to do some leading man movies. He certainly has the looks and the talent to be big in the movies. If it's Hotch then the explanation would have to be that all the rumors of Gibson wanting off the show are true. I am sure that they must be planning on offing or at least really really injuring the British agent because all the sings point to her being the original target. This was a truly awesome episode but I can understand why some people didn't like it. Cliffhangers can be very frustrating and this tv season has been full of nothing but cliffhangers.

I thought he mentioned it in Fear and Loathing. He and the (doomed - :( ) COTW are talking in the police station. COTW is frustrated and worried, and Morgan suggests pretending to be a beat cop again. It wasn't made explicit that Morgan had been a cop at some point well, but it was implied.
Although, did they say he was a beat cop? 'Cuz that doesn't really work with him graduating cum laude from law school. (Which is what Garcia recites in Profiler, Profiled, yes?)
If you remember, one of the BAU said "they don't don't know that we know they're watching us" or something to that extent. When the SUV exploded, it appeared to be on a video monitor. This would go along perfectly with a scenario where a bomb was placed under a BAU SUV, but was detected by the BAU before anything happened. In order not to let the terrorists know anything, an SUV was exploded for the terrorists to see, but no one was actually in it. This way the terrorists will think they were succesful when they actually failed.
