CRIMINAL MINDS IS GOING UP AGAINST PRIVATE PRACTICE

Criminal Minds is going up against Private Practice and the Bionic Woman this season. I don't see the Bionic Woman as being anything to worry about but Private Practice might give us a run for our money. Fingers crossed this season. :)

This has been an INCREDIBLY hard choice in our house. My husband and I are both HUGE Taye Diggs fans along with having loved the one off episode they showed last season of this show. It was an AMAZING show with a strong cast, writing room, direction team...seriously a GREAT show.

But it all comes down to Matthew aka Dr. Spencer Reid. We decided we would watch CM and give Private Practive the good ole Tivo.

I hope Criminal Minds is up for the challenge.

That's the spin off Grey's Anatomy. I got bored of the whole bed hopping thing in Grey's and if Private Practice is going to be like that, I might give it a skip right from the start.

I'm sure Criminal Minds will stay tops.

It is 2007 and most people have tivos or dvrs. Then there is always the old fashioned vcr for those of us who have not stepped up with the times. I am not interested in PP, anyway, but if I were, there is a solution.

P.S. Thank you, Shemar! ;)

We are tivoing Private Practice, which we are really excited about, and watching Criminal Minds.

I have complete confidence in CM to rule the time slot but Private Practice has the potential to hit it hard. We'll be okay!

Anonymous said...

Criminal Minds started season one with no hype or big hoopla and it found a home. Private Practice has so much press swirling around it and so much hype. I think it will do well for a few weeks and then die a fast death.

Anonymous said...

We're compromising in our house. Taping each show and watching one life every other week to be fair. That way we won't be fighting.

Anonymous said...

The only thing that does concern me is that a few of my friends that have ALWAYS watched CM are talking none stop about Private Practice. I am hoping they will watch both but one is a huge Mandy fan and she may bale. I think the show will continue to shine in the ratings. We all just need to keep talking up the show.

Anonymous said...

CM all the way for me. We will crush them like we did Lost.

Anonymous said...

My two favorite shows are Criminal Minds and Greys so this is a tough one for me. I may have to go out and buy a dvd player.

Anonymous said...

CM will be okay. People will tune in to see Mandy go and Joe leave. We may actually do better in the ratings than last year.

Anonymous said...

We are watching CM in our house!

Anonymous said...

no sweat. we rule the night for sure. cm is the best and always has been.

Wasn't too impressed by Private Practice, however, Criminal Minds completely sucks me in...love it!!!! Looking forward to seeing more Matthew/aka Dr Reid :)

Honestly think CM won't have serious competition there. More concerned about ppl being put off by Kid Nation and just watching other stations, instead of tuning in at the 9p.m. slot for CM.

Anonymous said...

Nita,

My husband said the same thing about Kid Nation and potential network backlash. What a creepy and horrible thing to do to kids to make a buck. Disgusting.

But I think the show is bigger than the network. I wouldn't miss it but I would never watch one second of Kid Nation. Gross.

Anonymous said...

I think the cast of Priv. Pract. is really great but it is just going to be a rehash of Greys. I think CM will be fine without any worry about either of these new shows.

Anonymous said...

It may be harder at first for the ratings due to MP leaving but I think it will level itself out. The new shows do nothing to excite me.

Anonymous said...

I love Criminal Minds so much and I can't imagine that the show will lose too many fans to the newbie shows. I don't mean to sound ugly but a friend pointed out to me that if Shemar would just stop giving so many interviews about Mandy leaving it might help. He is inciting people and that doesn't help the situation. He needs to talk about something else. He is a wonderful star in his own right. He needs to talk about that and let the Mandy thing die down.

I'm tempted to sign as anonymous for this post because I have to admit that I want to see Bionic Woman make it. Not make it instead of CM but also. I like the casting they did for that show. I will tivo it and please no flames in my direction.

Anonymous said...

I think the show will be great this season and the other shows will have decent freshmen ratings but get moved to other nights.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Lee that the show is in for a real challenge this season. We lost lots of fans when Patinkin left and not everyone is wild about Joe M. I intend to faithfully watch the show to see how the season goes but I also intend to watch Private Practice. I think it is going to have a built in audience so we do have competition this year. It is all going to come down to how good the writing is and if I change my mind about the new character. I don't like the preview info we have on him right now and I think it was a lousy casting decision.

Anonymous said...

I love CM and I feel a sense of loyalty to the show and all my CM friends but I too am going to tivo Private Practice. I wouldn't even think of passing it up. I love Greys.

Anonymous said...

Criminal Minds will take the time slot eventually but the first few weeks are going to be really hard. Or maybe just the opposite. We will still have Patinkin's fans till he is gone. I think we will win.

Anonymous said...

CM! No Doubt! We Rule!

Anonymous said...

Private Practice is another Studio 60. Cause that show got SOOOO much hype, and guess what? It bombed.

Criminal Minds is going to be fine. And plus, I love the casting choice of Joe Mantegna. I saw the photo at TVGUIDE, and OMG it's awesome!! He fits RIGHT IN. He completely belongs there. It's a WONDERFUL casting choice.

And no one can't say we lots all the fans to Mandy, cause that's the online fandom world. It doesn't represent the population. I'm glad he left. He didn't do much, and he faded in the background in season 2. I can't wait for CM =)

Anonymous said...

The TV Guide article was okay. I personally thought Joe Mantegna looked out of place in the picture but whatever. To each their own opinion.

Studio 60 was a great show but hype can hurt a show. That I do agree with.

Of course so can soooo much negative press and that is all we get lately. As for Mandy Patinkin fans, well they are not a small number.

I do think Criminal Minds will be okay if people stick it out which I will do. I think anyone who doesn't realize that this is going to be a hard season in the ratings is short sighted. Hard is okay though.

Anonymous said...

I also saw the pic of Mantegna in TVGUIDE and I do agree with Dorianna, he looks perfect in there. I always thought Mandy Patinkin from the getgo looked so out out place there, but I digress.

I can't wait for season 3, and it's going to prevail in the ratings. I don't care for Private Practice and Tim Daly after Wings sucks now. I also couldn't care less for Bionic Woman. Don't ever mess with the original.

But whatever. Can we all be positive instead of being negative?? Everytime I get into a show, the negativity starts to spread, it drives me insane, sorry that's how I feel.

Anonymous said...

I think we are all looking forward to the start of season three but there are other shows on tv and talking about them doesn't make us negative or disloyal.

I was never a big fan of Mandy's but I am also not impressed with Joe. I adore Kirsten and Shemar so I am happy with whoever sits in that other chair.

I think the show has faced stiff competition before and always done very well. It will happen that way this time but as someone else already said it is going to be harder this time.

Anonymous said...

I stopped buying the TV Guide after all the lousy things they wrote when Mandy left. If I missed a good picture then oh well on me but I refuse to support a magazine that rakes the show over the coals one minute and then throws it a bone the next.

Criminal Minds will be great this season with or without Mandy.

Anonymous said...

We intend to watch Criminal Minds live and tape Private Practice. I think if everyone just watches the show live and the Nielsen families do the same thing then all will be awesome.

The episodes sound good and the writers are all there and that is the meat of the show. I like Lori's contest and I am going to play. Not too many days left till magic time.

Anonymous said...

I setup the vcr to tape Bionic Woman because I want to see just how bad it is. I setup tivo to tape Private Practice and Criminal Minds. I will watch Criminal Minds first. I love the show and we are getting our Gube back! Yeah ten times about that.

Anonymous said...

I love CM because it always delivers a great mystery/suspense/thriller experience.

The writers are strong, the cast and crew are marvelous, the fans are fan-tastic (or as we like to say somewhere else, gubetastic).

I think CM will have another strong season of growth and success!

Stories about love and lust are a dime a dozen. When Grey’s made the bed hopping center stage I lost interest. People who enjoy those stories will be attracted to PP. People will also watch BW both because of nostalgia and special effects. It is hard to predict staying power for a remake of an old show.

I like CM because it involves a few more varied emotions, and is not focused on just the love lives of the characters. I like the complexity of the issues that they deal with. If it becomes a soap, with all kinds of shipping, I will stop watching. I don’t mind some changes of characters in a soap opera, but I do mind constant changes to my “family”.

I agree that new publicity needs to be good. When the only publicity you get is negative it makes it seem worse then it actually is.

Anonymous said...

D....

I don't think anyone is being negative. There is overwhelming support for the show. I think you are misreading what people are saying. It is possible to like two shows that are on at the same time. I think people are just expressing that they want to watch both of them.

I just want to watch Criminal Minds but I hope everyone enjoys whatever show they ALSO watch as long as Criminal Minds is one of them.

And yes to those who commented on the general yuk of Kids Nation. Child abuse laws must apply to that show. Big bad yuk.

Anonymous said...

Sherlockette & Parker:

I agree 100% about the shipping and soap opera feeling and I am glad that we do not have either on our show.I also agree that the press has got to stop. It is aweful. The Mandy Patinkin story has long past passed it's shelf life.

I read a few things about "Kids Nation" and thought it surely had to be wrong. It sounded so terrible but many people who have written about it all say the same thing. There was even a story about it on Yahoo News. Ghastly what they did to those kids. Why did their parents agree to such an experiment?

12 more days till CM.

I am doing the happy dance.

Anonymous said...

We have the best writers and the best cast. Of course we will win the ratings battle. If there is even a battle to be won.

Criminal Minds has a very dedicated group of fans.

Anonymous said...

I know that I am not negative about the show, ever, but I still want to tape the other show. I would never give up on Criminal Minds. As long as my favorite six are still there then I'll be there and I am all excited about S-3.

Anonymous said...

Season Three will make the top 10. No problem this year doing that. Look how close we came last year.

Anonymous said...

The ratings will fall like this:

Criminal Minds
Private Practice
Bionic Woman

Hurry up Season 3.

Anonymous said...

I always record CM on my DVR so I can watch more than once. I usually watch it while it's actually airing, but it depends on what elso is on. If Private Practice is as good as the buzz, I may watch it in real time, or I may be so excited about CM being on that I'll give PP a pass. I don't know yet.

Anonymous said...

The nice thing about today's technology is that we can have it all. We can tape on our vcr while we tivo and also watch a show live. I don't want to see the Bionic Woman or Private Practice on a regular basis but I may tape them so that I can know what they are like.

Criminal Minds is a wonderful show and I am counting the moments till the season begins but that doesn't stop me from wanting to watch other shows. There are several new shows I am interesting in watching this season.

Anonymous said...

I love the show and I think it will do really well again this season but Private Practice is going to take a temporary bite at us in the rating imho.

I agree that the show is taking a huge hit in the press. Huge! I wish that would stop but the press has never been a friend to the show. Unfortunately they have actually had something on which to base their stories in the past few months.

Criminal Minds has always been supported by us fans. It has never been a popular show with the tv writers. No group of fans has ever learned to ignore the press better than we have and we just need to weather the first few episodes and I think all will be okay.

Anonymous said...

I am ubber excited about the new season starting soon. I wouldn't miss one minute of the show. I really do want to comment on a few things some of you have already said.

I think Shemar is an amazing, talented and gifted actor and I agree he needs to stop discussing Mandy with the press. He needs to talk about the show now and not the past. It just does really make it kind of worse to have it brought up all the time.

Private Practice will do well but not well enough and they will move it to another night so I am not even concerned about it hurting CM's ratings.

Kid Nation is beyong the scope of my worst nightmare. As a parent I am appalled that other parents would do this to their children. CBS is going to make no new friends with this horrible show.

I am really going to miss Gideon. I really am and the more they speak about the new character the more I cringe. I know I will need to get over it but it is going to take some real action on Mantegna's part. Rossi had better be damn good.

Anonymous said...

I really can't predict who's going to win the time slot next season. I think CM will be fine but PP will start out strong too. It could turn into another Greys vs CSI where they have different audiences and can both survive fine. I really question how long PP is going to stay in this timeslot though...there's no way ABC's going to leave it there at mid-season to face American Idol. And that's assuming it works..spin-offs are risky and if loosing a character negatively effects Greys PP may die from that as well. This isn't a CSI situation were looking at..to make this the original had to lose a piece.

As for Bionic Woman if it does OK it will move to Monday pretty quickly if either Chuck or Journeyman die quickly

CM has shown in season 1 when it was up against American Idol, Lost and momentarily Bones that it can still pull solid rating. I don't see that changing.

I've heard that CBS expects to be putting Jericho back on in the very near future...now if Kid Nation goes away and CM gets it's old lead in back i'll be a happy fan.

As far as the negative publicity they say all publicity could be good. At least people have been talking about the show and not ignoring the fact that it exists. And am I the only one that noticed that TV guide hasn't hat Michael Ausiello covering CM stuff anymore?

Sorry for babbling.

Anonymous said...

I would like to ask a question for anyone who can answer it for me. Why doesn't CBS do more to actively and positively promote the show? The show gets such aweful press from some media outlets and then they are the same ones that are given access to the talent for interviews. I don't get it. Can't they stop being friendly to those who constantly bite them on the butts? I just so do not understand it at all.

CM will rule as usual this season. The show was more than one character.

Anonymous said...

I really like this thread. It is interesting to read that many people are thinking like I am. I am so excited for the 26th to get here. I also worry about the competition but I think many of the new shows will get cut and the schedule will have lots of wiggle room on all the network channels. I think things will work out great for the show.

It would be nice to hear from Ed again but he seems to have dumped us after the Mandy situation played itself out. I feel really bad about that. At first I figured that he was just busy but I guess he has moved on to the more traditional press now and sorta dumped us all.

Anonymous said...

I don't believe there will be any problems with the ratings. I think the show will go on just the way it did before. Mandy or Joe...who cares at this point? I am sick of hearing about the both of them at this point. Criminal Minds is about all the actors and the writers. I intend to tape Private Practice. It sounds great and I like Greys but I will always watch Criminal Minds.

Anonymous said...

Don't sell "Bionic Woman" short. It could do well. You never know what an audience is going to like.

Anonymous said...

I think all three shows will have their own audience. They are all very different. I'll be watching CM but I may tivo one of the others.

Anonymous said...

I think Kate Walsh is great and I look forward to her new show. I intend to watch it but I will also watch Criminal Minds. I watched because of Mandy and the stories. If the stories stay interesting without him around then I will still watch.

Anonymous said...

Criminal Minds will beat the other shows. I have confidence.

Anonymous said...

I loved what Evie pointed out about Ausiello but he is like the mold that can grow in the shower. Never really gone but just waiting for his moment. The evil one is just waiting to smack the show hard if it falters even a hair. What a schmuck the guy is. I wonder if he has even ever watched the show!

PP will do very well in the ratings and so will CM. I think they will split the night and then PP will move off to another night when ABC drops some of their new shows and it will work itself out.

Anonymous said...

The new season is almost here and then we shall see what happens. So much depends on the feel this season of the show. I am happy to have it on soon to see it.

Anonymous said...

I don't see any problem since CM already has enough viewers to win the ratings slot. Even if we lost a tenth of the viewers from last season because MP left then that still would leave us with more than enough.

Anonymous said...

Who says that The Bionic Woman won't be popular? How can we know that? It could just be under hyped at this point.

All we can do is watch the show and hope.

Anonymous said...

Private Practice is just going to be a rehashed primetime soap opera and those are a dime a dozen. Bionic Woman is a joke imo. I think the show has no real credible competition. It owns Wed. nights.

11 days and counting.

Anonymous said...

I'm going to watch all three and then figure out what besides CM I want to watch on a regular basis. Tivo is a gal's best friend.

Anonymous said...

Go team CM!

Anonymous said...

If the show was going head to head with "Greys" then I would worry but spin off shows never make it. I am not worried about "Private Practice" at all.

I think "Doubt" will be wonderful and then we lose Mandy and that will be fine and then we wait a few and then Mantegna comes and that will be fine too!

Anonymous said...

Why doesn't Thomas Gibson start taking over the interview duties from Shemar Moore? Gibson has a large fan base and it would be nice to hear from him about the new season. It was nice when Kirsten blogged last week. Not too much longer and the new season will start and then maybe all this will just be a distant memory and the show will be soaring in the ratings.

Anonymous said...

I think CM will be just fine. I have faith in their writers and the cast & crew. They won't let us down. I hope the Hotch / Emily / Director situation is short lived though. That combined with Joe M. coming in as a new character would be an awful lot of drama. Also, I wonder what's going to happen with Reid as far as the drug story line. I don't want the show to lose it's main focus - the profiling of criminals. I think their writers are some of the best, so I'm not worried. It's all about balance.

Anonymous said...

I am excited about PP and CM.

Anonymous said...

Private Practice is going to draw a whole different audience than Criminal Minds imho.
