CRIMINAL MINDS: TELL NINA TASSLER WHAT YOU THINK!

Criminal Minds: Please use this thread to post a message to CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler about the firing of the Criminal Minds writers and the recent media reports that CBS is cutting actors from popular television shows.

Let her know that we object to their "changing the winning formula" of Criminal Minds. "Why change a show that works?" "Why lay off writers and actors that make the show great?" "Don't change a winning formula." We won't tolerate any more changes with this show. We will stop watching. Period.

Here's your chance to speak your "Minds"............

I will print off and fax her office daily all the comments left.

To CBS

Remember that many fans do not visit fan websites and are not aware of what's going on. Also, many people will not take the time to write. But these same people will stop watching the show if they find changes they don't like. You should probably multiply the number of letters you receive several times to arrive at the true number of viewers you could be losing.

Like everyone else who has posted on this blog, I am shocked and upset to find out that we are losing five brilliant writers from Criminal Minds! That is... unfathomable to me, it goes against every idea I have about how to make a good TV show. For four seasons these writers have faithfully served Criminal Minds, the actors, the characters, the producers, the fans. How you can just get rid of them like that is beyond me. I understand budget cuts; I understand that the economy is in the toilet, but to screw yourselves over like this... it's bad enough to so devestatingly injure the creative talent behind each and every episode, but to take away any of the faces of Criminal Minds, especially Thomas Gibson, who has been the leader of the BAU since day one, in title and in action, is disturbing in the extreme. A winning formula, as so many have pointed out, should not be messed with! Please leave our show alone, you've done enough damage. Leave our actors in peace, and bring back as many writers who will agree to come! We need them all. Why do you think Criminal Minds has done so well up to now? WHy do you think its popularity continues to rise? Because it is a brilliant show, which comes from the brilliant minds and hard work of every member of staff who works on it.Sincerely,
Jane

I would like the people in charge of CBS Criminal Minds to remember that the show has a lot of fans all over the world besides the around 14 million that watch it inside the US. Why does it have so many fans? Simply because it is well written and well acted. You have already let go five very talented writers please keep ALL the cast, they all do a wonderful job especially Thomas Gibson who plays Hotch so amazingly well and let us fans believe these group of people are like a real BAU TEAM.
Thanks for hearing us the FANS.

Hi,
My name is Mireille, I’m from Paris France.

I love Criminal Minds, or like it is called here, Esprits Criminels.
My favorite character is Hotchner. He is such a great leader.

I wait every week to watch a new episode on French tv.

I read on a French forum that CBS was to cut one of the actors.
Hope not, the show would not be the same.

Thank you for reading me,

P.S sorry for my bad english

To Nina/Ed,

I love all characters on Criminal Minds, especially Dr. Spencer Reid. But I keep hearing talk about an actor is possibly going to get the boot for the sake of "creativity" and trying to be "daring." BUT all you will do is alienate the fans who stood by you guys when Mandy Patinkin left. Every single actor have been professional SINCE DAY ONE. And this is how you betray them?? This is worse than a slap in the face. EACH character brings something special and the fans know it. EVEN if you don't kill off a character, you will lose trust from your fans and each season that goes by they will question your motives Ed/Nina and wonder if someone will die. You have already instilled fear and it will take a very very VERY long time to get your fans to trust you again, and that will be a shame....

Wouldn’t be great if CBS didn’t mess with this show. CM doesn’t need tinkering.

It was great before you fired those writers, so now you have weaken CM, I just hope you will not do more damage by iring an actor. If you need to cut, look at CSI, Lawrence Fishburn, he sure ain’t worth what he got!

I've only discovered this show in the last year and I have to say I'm hooked on it. It's so well done with its twists and turns and character development. It would be a terrible shame to do anything that would negatively affect that foundation.

Ms Tassler,

I thought I would tell you why I love CM as it.

The writing is top notch, better than what we see on most shows.

The actors are all very good and you have excellent leading actors in Thomas Gibson and Joe Mantegna.
Even if CM isn’t a show that is characters driven it is those characters of Hotchner, Reid, Prentiss, Garcia, JJ, Morgan and Rossi that makes us comes back week after week.

The creepy factor. I love when CM goes all creepy, it keep me on the edge on my seat!

I really hope you will not change CM. I want to be back watching CM next season and for that to happen I want all the actors to be back.

I just did a search on google for Criminal Minds and this petition came up. i can't believe what I read, an actor will be leaving because of the money?

Sure things are bad but isn't CBS the # 1 network? The most watched Network? so why are you messing up with this great show? If CBS isn't doing that great then don,t touch the shows that are making your success!

Nina Tassler,

I am hoping that your station cannot be serious in it's firing one of the top actors from Criminal Minds? Correct me if I'm wrong, but CM is one of your top-performing shows, right? How does this make sense, given the loss of writers? If you do this, you will change the show forever, and not for the better. If you go through with it, count me as an ex-viewer of both CM and CBS. I expected better.

CBS Should be Proud of this Show and this Cast and With that Being Said I ask you to please Reconsired your Decision to Cut one of it's Cast Members. Each of them Are a very Important part of this Show and it would not be the same without any of them Especially
Thomas Gibson.

As a Leader of this team he is the Heart and soul of this Show and without him - It just would not be the same and I am sure his Fellow cast Members Feel the Same Way.

Please Keep this Show the Way it is, Let it Continue to be a Show CBS can be proud of and One the Fans Can Continue to Enjoy

Dear Nina Tassler,

I'm taking the time to write this after hearing some distressing news.

Criminal Minds is a very popular show. Its success can be explained by different factors, but it's obvious that one of the biggest factors is the cast.
All of the actors are wonderful and I can't imagine even wanting to watch the show if one of them were to leave.
You would loose a large number of viewers. This is not some kind of threat, this is a simple fact.

So I'm sincerely hoping that this won't happen and that the seven main actors will be back for season five.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I don't often sign petitions, but when one of the only shows worth watching is being attacked for no apparent reason, I had to do something. This program is rare in its great ability to mix action, intrigue and character development. Each character is unique and all are important. It is obvious that the cast have chemistry so don't give that up. Save our actors, all of them! If not, you will lose fans, including this one.

Megan said...

Ms Tassler,

I think we all understand the tough times that have been fallen on, but messing with perfection is NOT the answer.

The writing on the show has always been wonderful. Dramatic, but not over the top. Humorous, but still in good taste. No cheesy one-liners trying to masquerade as dramatic comebacks. The quotes at the beginning and end of the show have always been a favorite of mine. I can only hope that with the loss of five phenomenal writers the writing doesn't start a slow, sad spiral downward.

And now there is talk of cutting actors as well?!

I have watched Criminal Minds since day one, and one of the things that drew me in and kept me there was the team aspect. No one character is more important than the other -- it's all about the team. The actors work beautifully together and play off of each other perfectly.

CM is different than its other crime show counterparts in that it treats profiling as a real science. It is one of the few shows that focuses not on the physical evidence, but rather the psychological and sociological aspects. I could go on and on about what puts this show a step above the rest, but I will leave it at that.

The show has done incredibly well throughout its four seasons and has consistently placed in the top ten in terms of weekly ratings. In fact, the ratings for March 25, a day on which both CM and LOST aired new episodes, Criminal brought in nearly double the viewers ABC's acclaimed LOST did.

As a loyal viewer, I can see Criminal Minds going nowhere but up. Do you really want to risk that by cutting writers and actors like they're an overgrown shrub? I should hope not. Don't ruin a good thing.

I have been re-watching the past seasons and I gotta say, I don’t think there’s the teeniest, tiniest possibility of Criminal Minds without Aaron Hotchner. I don’t understand how you could think that it could for even one second. Well, maybe if you did like the millions of us and turned on your TV to watch the show, it would probably take you 2 minutes to figure that out. Well, 600 people are telling you now. You have no idea how much this character is loved by the fans. Actually, all of the team is. Don’t change a thing about it, because unlike many lesser shows out there, this one doesn’t need change. It improves with every new episode. Leave this show alone and keep us, well, not happy, that’s gone now thanks to you firing 5 writers, but at least you get to keep us in your station.

Dear Nina Tassler and CBS for that matter,

I'm a big fan of Criminal Minds. It's the only show I don’t miss. I can miss How I Met Your Mother, The Bing Bang Theory and The Office, but not Criminal Minds.
Now, I've been hearing from many people about you deciding to let an actor go, because of the economy, I guess. You see, I don’t know about that, especially because people don't tune in every week because of the grueling cases, they tune in because of the characters they love. At least, this is the case with Criminal Minds. So, you imagine the heartbreak if next season Aaron Hotchner, or Spencer Reid, Dave Rossi, Emily Prentiss, JJ, Morgan or Garcia aren’t there anymore? I sure wouldn’t want to watch a show that forced my favorite character out and I can't even imagine how difficult it would be to even re-watch episodes with said character. Think about those fans of Mandy Patinkin who left the show with him to never come back.
Now, if you say you want a character dead because of the shock factor, how long will that last, really? We all saw how much backlash Bones got with his last season finale and their sad and rushed attempt to shock us. It did shock me, shock me so much I never returned to the show.
I know there's not much I can say to change the situation but lets think like this, if the show is great, the fans love it, the cast and crew work hard and you get good numbers, what seems to be the problem here? There's no need to shake things up. We are settled here, we like it just the way it is, no need to go through all this trouble.

Dear Ms Tassler,

Criminal Minds is by far the best show on TV. It's the only one that I watch every week. I was saddened to hear that 5 of the show's brilliant writers have been let go and even more shocked to hear that there is talk of cutting one or more of the actors. PLEASE reconsider any thoughts you may have about doing this. Criminal Minds is so successful because it is an ensemble cast. The show doesn't work as well when one of the members is missing. I know that people have their favorites (mine is Matthew Gray Gubler) but the beauty of this show is in the dynamics between the characters. I understand that, with the present economic climate, tough decisions need to be made, but PLEASE don't change Criminal Minds any more than you already have. Doing so will surely do more harm than good.

On CBS that is Criminal Minds. I've ben watching faithfully for four years. I was mighty piss off when Mandy Patinkin left, Gideon was the character that drew me to Criminal Minds. When Mandy left, I stayed with Criminal Minds because it was Mandy decision to leave. Another reason I stayed was Thomas Gibson character of Aaron Hotchner. If Gibson leaves I will have no reason watching this show. The other actors may be good but their characters are simply not that interesting to me. I hope you will not cut Gibson or any of the actors on Criminal Minds. If you do then I'll be done with it.

Ms. Tassler,

The need to make cuts during this economic depression is reasonable and I am sure that it was a hard decision to make.

The firing of so many writers on one show does seem to me to be drastic. I happen to watch several other CBS shows and I'm also active in their fandoms. No such cuts have been made on those shows.

My question/problem with these particular cuts is that they are being done to a show that is a ratings winner for you while similar cuts are not occuring on shows that sit squarely on the cusp.

When I first started hearing rumors about Thomas Gibson potentially being fired from the show I dismissed them as simply gossip but now I am leery and feel they may have substance.

Mr. Gibson is all of a sudden being vilified in the media and neither Mr. Bernero or CBS has come forward in his defense. This strikes me as odd.

I assume from the large amount of responses to this post that I do not stand alone in saying that I would be extremely disappointed should Mr. Gibson be fired from the show. Mr. Gibson is a seasoned actor and a show staple since its inception.

Please try more creative ways of saving money than making any further salary cuts or personnel cuts, for the sake of the show and your investment in it.

To Nina Tassler,

So many shows to watch on so many networks and cables. Why do I choose Criminal Minds on CBS? Because it is well written and the acting is the best of all the CBS shows.

Now, knowing that five writers, among them the best that Criminal Minds had, were fired is cause for concern for next season. If an actor leaves, be it Thomas Gibson, Joe Mantegna, Matthew Gray Gubler, Paget Brewster, AJ Cook, Kirsten Vangsness or Shemar Moore would give the signal that this show is in decline. Why would I want to watch a sinking ship go down? When it comes to sinking ships, I already gave, it was painful enough to watch Grey's and Heroes go bad, I have no desire to see that happen to Criminal Minds. I will bail out at the end of the season if any of the actors are let go.

To CBS,

I'm not very good with words, drawing is more my thing but I'll try for CM. I'll try to tell you why I love CM so much and would be devasted if anyone left.

CM is first Hotchner. He is the team leader, the moral compass, as someone said on the dvd's extra of season one 'the three that doesn't bend'. Hotch is the one that cares for the team. I just cannot accept anyone else but Hotch as the BAU Unit Chief.

Rossi, the old profiler who retired to make money on books circuit. He came back to help after Gideon left. He is a good friend to Hotch but too old and a loner to ever be a unit chief.

Morgan, good team member, dependable, the physical guy but will never make it as a leader, too hot headed, has no finess and cannot play the political games that a team leader needs to play.

Dr. Reid, the kid genius, whose knowledge of anything and everything is trully an asset to the BAU.

Garcia, the tech genius who can find information about anyone anyhere. if was posted on the web or on some systems somewhere Garcia would find it!

Prentiss, good agent, very professional and loyal to Hotch and the team.

JJ, the team communication director. JJ deals with the media so that the profilers are not bothered by the media. She also help dealing with the local cops and the victims family.

See, I know my show and I KNOW that all the characters are needed and you cannot remove one and expect for this show to works. It just can't.

I hope Ms. Tassler that this petition will make you reconsidered removing one of the actors.

As many others around here, I am a huge fan of Criminal Minds, it’s my absolute favourite TV show. That’s why I was very disappointed in finding out that 5 writers have left the show, although they were doing their job perfectly. The idea that one or more actors might leave as well is simply unbearable. I don’t think the show will ever have the same appeal whithout its original cast, and you know it. So it would be advisable to think twice before making any hasty decision that might cost you a great loss in the number of the viewers. At least I will quit watching it if I find it too dramatically changed.
Yours sincerely,
A huge, but disappointed fan of CM.

CBS,

This show is my favourite on TV right now. I’d hate to stop watching it because you manage to destroy all the fun in it. But right now it seems you’re doing a pretty good job at it by firing 5 writers and now possibly one actor. Talk about shooting yourself in the leg…

Why in the world would you guys do this?!
You do NOT need to fix anything. The show IS just perfect!!! Do not change anything or anyone.

This is by far the BEST and most amazing show I have ever watched on TV.
I am completely ADDICTED to this show. I was in complete shock when I learned that they fired the writers. I get that you have to save money whereever you can, but I think that you are making a HUGE mistake.

Unknown said...

Obviously, I agree with what everyone else here has already said: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

There's a reason that Criminal Minds consistently rates as well as it does, and that is because we fans like what they're showing us. Changing that formula is going to have drastic effects on your viewership, and not in a good way. Given this economy, networks are vying for their numbers to go up, not down.

But hey, I'm just a member of the key demographic that is oh so precious in your business. What do I know? So you loose a bunch of 18-49 year olds. Maybe that's no big deal...right?

I cannot believe what I am hearing and reading. Why are you disrupting my favourite show? I've been a CM fan since the beginning, having become completely mezmorized by Thomas Gibson's Hotch. I've loved watching his character develop over 4 seasons and cannot wait for more. To me, he and Reid are crucial for this show. If either one of them are forced out, I will no longer watch. It will not be the same show I fell in love with.

It is so depressing that instead of looking forward to the final episodes of the season, I'm so stressed over the potential loss of an actor. I adore them all and really cannot fathom the show without them, but especially Hotchner, Reid and Garcia. Hotch anchors the show and the team, Reid you just want to hug and love his quirkiness, and Garcia... she's a doll. Please leave well enough alone; I won't watch without my beloved characters.

Just RECENTLY, and I dooo mean RECENTLY I became a fan of Criminal Minds after watching the Aaron Hotchner episode. This was brilliantly written, and without knowing who the writer was, I fell in love with the person to.And because of this episode, I bought seasons 1-3 in a SNAP, ALSO I even watched the previous season 4 episode on youtube. So lets just say that I had myself one hell of a marathon and now I am really caught up. I know every character and writer(especially the person who shall be named, Andrew Wilder who wrote that episode which I learned was called, "Omnivore")and like with every show I discover, I tend to find stuff about it. THUS, I was searching for great CM sites and was DISMAYED by what I was reading on this blog, and I have no reason to doubt this, since I did see Thomas Gibson's note to the fans, which I was thought was awesome! And now I understand CBS a network that I don;t watch that much, NOW WANTS TO SACK WRITERS AND ACTORS? I was soo sad when I read the goodbye letters from the writers who were let go, especially Andrew Wilder whom I thought was an exceptional writer. They ALL have been a GREAT SERVICE to this show, and I am in a severe state of anger. NOW, you want to get rid of an actor? Maybe I say, that each actor has made this show special? Including Joe Mantegna. And from what've UNDERSTOOD, Thomas Gibson's character is the heart the show..So I ask you Ms. Entertainment President Nina Tassler, why do you want to get rid of the person who is THE HEART OF THE SHOW? We NEED HEARTS TO KEEP GOING AND TO FUNCTION. If we do not have this major vital force within a show OR BODY, then the show and our body would be useless. The heart is the main piece of ingredient for us to continue on with something. SO once that is gone, it is nothing. So taking out an actor out of their show, the show would dwindle little by little....and you don't want to know what will happen next. PLEASE DON'T MESS WITH A GOOD THING.

Anonymous said...

I was also looking forward to the final episodes of the season and may I add one of the best seasons. Criminal Minds have just gotten better and better.... season after season. It has grown and developed as as show. The character development and stories gotten better and better. The bad guys and girls have gotten better, meaner and scarier.

This is because of the actors, writers and crew. They have done an incredible job with this show. Please don't do anymore damage to this show. I'm very nervous about the final episodes and what will develop behind the camera. Please do not do anymore damage or you will lose a viewer. Not only me, but by the sound of all of these posts... you will lose a lot of viewers.

Nina,

Criminal Minds is a great show. The show is smart, subtle, very well written, and the production values are great. The cast does a wonderful job with the characters they portray. Losing 5 veteran writers will have an adverse affect on the show, but if you lose even one the characters it will be horrific for the show and the fans. The chemistry between the actors is wonderful and I look forward to it every week. I honestly hope you listen to the fans of the show and leave things as they are.

Up until now, CM has been one of those programs that I've gained a lot of respect for... it achieves a great deal without being too 'showy' and seemingly without a lot of hype. It has an extremely loyal fan base, as you can see and I have been proud to be one of those fans.

There is no question that we are in terrible economic times, and CM wasn't immune to this, although I still feel the loss of FIVE writers to be excessive.

So you've made some cost-savings but still an actor is under threat... how can that be? My respect is dwindling quickly, as is my desire to continue to watch CM or anything else on CBS. I'm too attached to all of the characters (especially Hotchner and Prentiss) to stick around if they are written out.

Maybe you don't care about the fans. But I would hope that you DO care about your actors. After all, they are your bread & butter and are helping YOU to survive the tough times. TG & PB are tremendously talented; do not overlook this fact.

Please don't make the same mistake twice. As others have said, ALL seven actors must make it to Season5 if I am going to continue my loyalty to CM and to CBS.

Respectfully yours,
Mrs. J. Willard

I just learned that CBS is going to fire five very capable writes. Firing these writers is like removing the very foundation that the show is built upon. And without the foundation the show will lose its fan base and hurt the very reason why they have fired the writers. Everyone feels the effect of the economy too and all this will do is dig a bigger hole.

Anonymous said...

After the firing of five writers I am left wondering if CBS is trying to have Criminal Minds cancelled. First the network barely advertises the show, until of course it's season 2 post Super Bowl episode. Even then the advertising of the show seemed scarce compared to other CBS shows in the same genre. It wasn't until Mandy Patinkin's abrupt exit that CBS bothered, and even then it was only to capitialize on the show's loss. We (the fans) endured this loss and stayed loyal.
We struggled through a writers strike with the show, which should have told you (CBS)how loyal we are to our writers. Without them we have no characters that bring us back week after week. We have already endured the loss of two regular cast and accepted their replacements with open arms. Now you have gone and fired 5 writers and there is rumour of the loss of yet another actor/character. How much more do you think the fans are going to put up with and still keep interest in the show.
Writers, the actors, the crew, all of them is what makes this show work. It is why we fans are so loyal. So again I can't help but wonder is CBS trying to destroy Criminal Minds? If it is not I suggest that any plans for further cuts be seriously reconsidered.

Left Wondering,

This is a strange gamble to make Nina Tassler. I think that enraged fans are the least thing CBS needs right now. I would think you’d want to strengthen your position on the market not weaken it by a string of sudden deaths in all your shows. With a move like that you’re sure to attract the wrath of all the fans of all the shows. And I would be at least cautious about that. As for myself I chose to come and support Criminal Minds, because I find it the most fascinating of them all. If I’d get the choice I’d like at least this show to stay as it is. It is a very interesting and intriguing show and I like the way the characters seem to complement eachother. I’d love to see them all back for a 5th season. I’m not sure if I could watch it otherwise.

Nina Tassler,

I’m a fan that went through many states of mind lately concerning this show. I’ve thought a lot about actually posting this message, because I’m not sure it will have any effects on you. The simple fact that you fired 5 exceptional writers on this show is proof of how little knowledge you have of it. How little you know about what makes it work and what makes it successful. That also shows your complete lack of understanding of what the fans of this show see in it and look for, in it. You decide on paper, you just look at them as names, paychecks and budget cuts. We see them as people. As people we have come to love them enormously because of the dedication they put into this show. We stand to lose more than just one writer or one actor. We lose the idea that a show can be about unity and family as much as it is about human misery. We lose faith in human kindness and understanding. We will however gain a deeper understanding of human greed and lack of interest. We will see that money brings out the worst in people, that they lose all perspective. I’m not sure if all this matters to you in any way. I’d rather suspect not. The perspective of a healthy financial compensation for the drastic budget cuts you managed to pull through will be more than enough to make you not care about us. Which is sad. I’d like to have more faith in human nature, and I so hope and pray you will prove me wrong. Leave this show alone. It matters very much to very many people. Please.

Dear Ms. Tassler,

You know, there are few characters on tv nowadays that can be inspirational off-screen. But CM benefits greatly through their creation of Hotch and Reid. These two appeal to a huge audience range and I can't imagine CM without them. Hotch is imperfect, but a hero nonetheless; completely believable. Reid shows us that you can be stupidly smart and still fit in. I want my son watching both.

So you can imagine my distress when I read that an actor from CM may be fired, then recently, that it may be a lead??! I think you've really lost the plot. And you're going to lose more than whatever brains you have left if you get rid of any of TG, MGG & Co. I will have to rethink my support of your station.

Five good writers were let go among them some who wrote the best episodes of the series, LDSK, NBK, The Tribe, Elephant Memory, Lucky, Omnivore, Tabula Rasa. This lost is big, it WILL have an impact on CM next season, I'm afraid not a good one. Now we are learning from different sources that an actor will be leaving too. What is going on at CBS and at CM? Are you trying to dismantle CM one piece at a time?

I for one will be bailing out at the end of this season. CM was great for four years but with all the changes coming I have no longer any faith in CBS or TPTB behind CM.

Now rumor has it, you might

I hope all those rumours that are on twitter and facebook are wrong and that no one will leave. If any of my favorites are not back next season, I will not be back either.

Lets hope for the good of Criminal Minds and all the people working on that show that you will take the right decision.

what is CBS, you are in need of some cheap ratings stunt so you will do what, have a characters leave or even better, more drama! get killed??? I hope not. Look at CSI, yes killing Warrick got them some better ratings but it went flat afterwards. Changing actors never works, look at the rating for CSI, since Pettersen been out and Fishburn with his big name and big salary only got down in the ratings and now they also are doing the cheap ratings stunt with big name stars or stupid plot like the one we will get tomorrow. Or is that a cheap plug to the new Star Trek Movie?

I thought CM was over all this crap, seems I was wrong. Someone must be desperated to want to get rid of a character. Think that will get CM in the news like it did with Mandy? Do you all miss those good old days?

Anyway, all this makes me sick. Lets bring the season (serie?) finale, I'll watch then be done with CM.
