A two-hour edition of Fox’s “American Idol” dominated Wednesday night’s prime-time ratings. According to Nielsen’s estimates, 24.6 million viewers tuned in, slightly less than for Tuesday’s installment, but far more than for any of the show’s competitors on the night. CBS was runner-up over all, delivering its highest ratings with “Criminal Minds” (13.3 million). CBS also finished second during the 8 o’clock hour with its comedies “The New Adventures of Old Christine” (7.1 million) and “Gary Unmarried” (6.9 million). ABC finished third with new episodes of “Lost” (9.8 million) and “Life on Mars” (5.1 million).
