OF COURSE IT WAS MATTHEW GRAY GUBLER'S BOX THAT WAS OPENED!

I had met and spoken with Matthew many times already that morning so I really was not nervous when he sat down to eat with us. He is a very sweet young man. Between takes he likes to walk around and talk to the people hanging around or his fellow actors. Even though he had already given me permission to take whatever pictures I wanted of him I decided to let him eat his lunch in peace without grabbing out the cameras. Instead we talked about his future plans, the show and my trip. I was so proud to hear that he frequents this blog often. It is obvious from speaking with him that he is enjoying portraying Dr. Spencer Reid on Criminal Minds. Another thing that strikes you immediately about this great talent is his humility. He is a truly humble person that appreciates every kind word anyone gives him. Also, this man is action in motion. He is so full of energy and he always smiles.

Of course it was his box that was opened by Homeland Security and we all had a great laugh about it. He loved that I had left the tape still on the box. I am starting my account of lunch with Matthew by showing one picture. I have taken many many more and you will see them soon. Next in my travel diary: Matthew opens his package and AJ surprises everyone with a huge surprise. Stay tuned...........it just keeps getting better and better! :)

  1. MGG sounds like a fun person to be around. I can totally see him bouncing around from person to person talking to them! LOL

It is cool to know that he looks at your blog, Jill!

  2. What a great smile! Much more natural than the all-teeth one -- though I like that one, too.

Of *course* it was his box that got opened. Hehehe! Knowing him, he's on somebody's watch list. I'm glad you left the tape on. See, it's not just us that think he's special.

And for this hour's fangirl moment: What was he eating? Omlette?

Oh, I hope he stays with the show until the very end -- maybe 15, 20 seasons? (See Sam Waterson on L&O -- we're not tired of Jack McCoy yet, are we? See?)

  3. Hey CriminalMindsFan here, that is awesome that MGG is that humble in real life. It must have been so fun being with someone that energetic. You can tell he is so crazy and smiley from his website and the special features of the CM DVD. That would have been great to have lunch with him. I can't wait to see what AJ's surprise was. It truly does get better as it goes. Thank you so much for your account of this. It makes my day. :)

  4. ahh, it would be his box that was opened! (and he must have very big hands to be holding it with one hand *G*)

Are we going to find out what was in it?

And it is good to know he is as nice as he seems in interviews etc.

That is just so great. And I knew it had to be Matthew's box that got opened.

  6. It must have been the suspicious socks that set off the alarms at Homeland Security. Socks created with dangerous knitting needles.

It seems to me that all the self-hugging and protective arm crossing that Reid does is part of the character and not MGG. Am I right about that guess?

  11. Hey, Jill -- did you happen to ask him when Part 5 of the "documentary" will be up? And did you tell him how much we love it?

  12. He's changed his clothes since the first picture. Were the first ones his own? This sweater at lunch looks very Reid to me.

  13. He is holding a jar of peanut butter in his hand which had not been packed in the box. He was done shooting for the day and was actually in his own clothes. Next we will certainly open the box.

And by the way he had chicken and rice for lunch. :)

  14. What was he eating? That food on his plate looks suspicious (spelling?)

  15. I'm smiling like crazy now! I can't wait to see other pics of him with the other gifts and everyone else with theirs! Its great to know he's so humble and energetic! I can't wait to see the 5th Unauthorized Documentary also and hear about his future plans. Its great to hear he reads this blog too and I love his big toothy smiles and his more normal looking ones. He's got such a great attitude! I will be reading more, but for now I'm off to finish spackling and painting my room.

  16. Squeeeeeee!

(Is it okay to squee on a blog that the squeeed upon person might be reading? MGG, be aware, I squee so constantly that it's been named a psych disorder: "insqueenity.")

Quentin, the wonder collie, would also love to eat lunch w. Matthew, as he's convinced that tidbits would definately be available. MGG definately seems like the kind of guy who would sneak treats to his biggest canine fan.

I want to see what's in the package!!!

  17. Nice clothes by the way, Matthew or Reid, he wears nice sweaters! I want to knit him one now! lol, I bet that would get opened up by homeland security!

  18. Sounds like MGG is as great a guy as we think he is! I'm really curious about who the "big" celebrity was. Guess if he hammers out a deal with CBS, we'll find out in the fall.

  19. That's too funny (I think the agent that opened it was probably a CM fan and couldn't resist!) either that or had no idea who MGG is and thought what a weird assortment of things to be shipping to someone - unmatching socks......

  20. That's a fabulous photo.

So what was the story with the peanut butter, anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Wow, There's no way I'd be able to converse and eat lunch sitting across from him. I'd be a mess. I'm glad he reads this. I can't wait for the rest of your stories. I'm so happy for you to have been able to experience this!

  22. no wonder it was the socks... those were dy-no-mite! hehe. loving the recaps and refreshing like crazy for the next update! let us know if Matt clued you in on when part 5 of the doc will be up!

  23. You are incredibly lucky! He sounds like he is a wonderful person, although I think we all knew that already anyway! Did he enjoy his present?

    ReplyDelete
  24. He always comes across as a sweet, well mannered young man. I'm sure he has a great career ahead of him.

  25. Jill; this is CaraReid from the CM forum. I'm SO sorry I didn't post before... I was too stupid to realise that you could post with out having your own site! =]
Anyways... Your pictures are WONDERFUL, and I'm so glad you had a good time.

  28. I just a whole bunch in row so I'l just post about them all here:

:D - You're a very lucky person, Jill, I'm very happy you got to have all these great experiences.

...I'm intrigued by this super famous person - I hope this person will be appearing on the show!

Haha, of course it was Matthew's box - it would just have to be, wouldn't it? ;-)

I think it's nice that Matthew reads this blog - I always appreciate celebrities who try to stay in touch with their fans; it show "Hollywood" hasn't gotten to them, you know? :-)

  29. I am glad that Matthew is such a humble person! It shows in the interviews. I hope to God he doesn't change. And it's cool that he checks this blog. I hope his future plans is to continue acting!=)

I'm kind of new to this whole "fandom" thing and never had expected that, but it's really cool (and unique, I think)...

  33. I think Matthew is secretly Canadian, what with the "lumberjack" shirt and the Canadian curling sweater look-a-alike. Seriously, hit any curling rink in the great white north, and this is what you'll see. :) Perhaps that is why homeland security is suspicious ;)
He just seems like such a sweet guy.
    anxiously awaiting more...

  34. MGG seems like such a cute, sweet person. Just like his character on the show, but probably with better self-esteem.

Did you make him sign a contract that he'll stay with the show forever?

Maybe Reid could chase an unsub up into the space shuttle!

  35. Matthew is just one of those down to earth sweet people that you stop being nervous around after a few minutes. I actually had taken some pictures of him earlier in the day but I am saving them for a later date when this travel diary is finished. :)

  36. I am loving these updates they are awesome =)

  37. MGG looks so cute what I'm i saying he always looks cute!!

Have you noticed in the background there's like 6 mirrors ?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am just going to come out and say it plain......he is so cute I could just pinch those sweet cheeks of his.

  39. That is no ordinary peanut butter -- it's peanut butter and jelly in the same jar. They call it Goobers.

    I love it!

  40. MGG seems like a really sweet guy--it's always nice to find out the people who play some of your favourite characters are nice.

He's such a talented young man (oh, god, I can't believe I called him that! I'm not THAT much older than him, *sigh*)that I'm sure he has a long and successful career in front of him.

And: peanut butter and jam in the SAME JAR? um. *ew* I don't think we have that up here in Canada (or if we have I haven't seen it) but it sounds absolutely disgusting. I love PB&J but...seperate jars.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I've seen pb&j in the same jar before but it doesn't sound too good like that, I like them seperate until they're on my sandwhich. lol. I never knew it was called goobers before though! that is so funny!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I remember that! PB and Jam in the same jar....so we did have it here in Canada but it is pretty disgusting!
I hope Matthew loves it! And if he's reading this...don't let Hollywood corrupt you and always stay humble and true to yourself! (how cheesy was that??)

  43. As others have said, I am glad to hear that Matthew is just like he seems. I can tell from his personal web site that he is a creative person, and I love his art!

I enjoy watching CM because it is a complete package of skilled actors and great characters. I like the Dr. Reid character most because I don’t know anyone like him. I‘m glad Matthew enjoys portraying the character. Note to Matthew: Please don’t go to the dark side! We need good guys!

    ReplyDelete
  44. i am sooo jealous of you, i don't even know what to say! lol

    ReplyDelete
  45. It is so nice to hear that he is grounded celeb. He is young and so talented. I would have hated to hear that he is a brat.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I have to set off but instead I'm here reading Jill's blog ... I'll be late ... No matter ... :p ! Thanks Jill for telling your trip ! Thanks for Matthew's photos and for everything ! I'm so happy now ! :D

  48. "I think Matthew is secretly Canadian, what with the "lumberjack" shirt and the Canadian curling sweater look-a-alike."

Ditto. But I think you HAVE to be Canadian to pick up on those sorts of things! ;-)

Ditto. But I think you HAVE to be Canadian to pick up on those sorts of things (fellow Canadian here)! ;-)

Anyhow, seconding others - it's great to hear that he (and the other cast members) are as great in reality as we think and hope them to be.
