Another episode to feature Morgan. Have not watched last weeks episode, and don't think this one has much potential.

I miss the CM that I would look forward to every week, and could watch over and over.

My favorite episode of the season! Everyone was great. Loved JJ with the unsub, the scenes between Hotch and Morgan and of course Pen and Morgan. I love how she told him off to set him straight.

I also have to be honest and say I never saw the twist of the child coming.

A great episode!

This was like fan-fiction,at it's very worst....it's back to being ridiculous this episode....I'm wondering if this is why Paget is leaving, she's recognized that the show is on a downward spiral....I mean gosh....this was bad.

I was very intrigued by the concept of the psychological effects of long term captivity. Elements of this story reminded me of a true crime story I read years ago, "Perfect Victim", where a family kept a woman as a sex slave for seven years, and used similiar tactics to shatter her ego and gain her compliance. However, FOR ME, the execution of the story fell short. I would have preferred more psychology that really delved into how Malcom broke Cindy. And I really wish there was some more indepth discussion of how Cindy overcame it all. Was she faking her compliance the entire time, or did she have an epiphany at some point? I don't see how someone could avoid breaking for eight years under such pressure. I would have forsaken the happy, happy ending for a story that dealt with the realities of long term captivity.

That being said, I really did love the Emily/JJ moments. They were priceless, and I loved their interview techniques on Malcolm It would have been nice to have a more explicit moment of understanding between Hotch and Morgan since they both lied to the persons they loved about someone being dead. But I really did enjoy the Rossi/Morgan interplay during this episode as Rossi was trying to keep Morgan under control. I don't know how I feel about the Morgan/Penelope interplay. Something about their conversation when she was giving him a reality check felt off to me.

Overall, I loved the concept of the episode, and specific moments. I just wish it had delved deeper into the psychology behind these types of crimes, and the psychology of the men who perpetuate these type of "relationships."

Look up "Colleen Stan". She is like Cindy...with "The Company". It's a real thing. This episode was accurate. Yes, of course, the element of TV comes in when the sister sees Cindy, but it wasn't an impossible situation. It was not a ridiculous episode. Sorry you didn't care for it...but it wasn't that far-fetched.

Another pretty good episode. No whodunit, of course, and the profiling was minimal. The story was good and interesting, and it is always satisfying to see the bad eggs being outwitted and outmaneuvered, and get to realize they have been outwitted, outmaneuvered, and, when necessary, overpowered. There is plenty left untold. As another poster mentioned, what is the cousin's whole story? Also what happenes to the rest of the network? All in all, a good, wwell paced, interesting story, in my opinion. However, and this is a big however, I'm afraid we are seeing the continued evolution into another CSI or detective show unless the profiling-centric element is returned or revived. GB

There was a lot of profiling....from Malcolm to Cindy. The can of spaghetti...I mean only a profiler can tell that means you have a kid.

It was a great episode. Expected between Morgan and Hotch will present a direct conversation regarding the "death" of Emily, however, those seconds that Hotch was made after listening to Morgan made me imagine what could happen to Hotch's mind, showed an interest genuine and never made any comparison to spite Morgan. I loved that detail. In the end, into a family forgiveness and solidarity in difficult times is important and that's the team: a family.
Now is an outstanding debt: I hope to conclude with the arc of Reid 's headaches, for that Messer promised us earlier this season. A hug to all fans of Criminal Minds from Costa Rica. Jessica

I'm well aware of Colleen Stan. I saw the hints to that case in the previews. And that woman was rather traumatized from what she experienced and what they did to her to force her compliance. The team essentially implied at the end of the episode that Cindy didn't experience serious psychological effects, because she went along with this the entire time for the sake of her son. I tend to disagree and that is why I think the psychological effects of long term captivity was glossed over for a happy ending.

This was...good:D
If we think about the fact that the episode only lasts 40 minutes, we realize that they can't show everything. They can't go in to too much details on everything.

I did SO not see her walking into the station to free Malcom, and I had NO idea whatsoever about what would make her do that, and then, to find out she had a kid. It made perfect sense. He didn't truly break her, because she lived for her son. The love she had for him was stronger than anything Malcom could do to her. I really enjoyed it.

The Prentiss and JJ scenes were priceless!! Loved it! The only thing I thought was a little sad was that it was too little of Reid, but you can't always get everything^^

To those of you who haven't seen it, and think that Criminal minds is "going down" : Just watch it:)

But that's the case for every episode where they save someone. If you're about to be killed or you were kidnapped...there will be psychological repercussions....and the show doesn't go into that (sans Hotch and Prentiss after 100 and it takes a village...and even then it was minimal).and by the end...there was like 1 minute to explain that.....and I don't think there was enough time.

If there comes a time when new and novel stories are hard to come by - and that is certainly possible - CMm might very well lend itself to 90 minute or even 120 minute TV movies. That would be more story telling time, and it would allow more participation from team members as they develop the clues and draw conclusions from them. That would also allow for more complete tying up of loose ends. GB

Anonymous said...

An additional thought: I would rather see a half dozen really good mystery/thriller/creepy free standing stories a year which included the hallmark profiling talents and other skills of the team as opposed to a regular season of lukewarm episodes interspersed with reruns and a gem here and there. I enjoyed the episode. Kind of Stepford Wives goes Kink. I have to say though I had the kid angle figured out long before the team did. As soon as he was threatening to "kill him" I knew she had a kid somewhere. I did enjoy the food angle though and thought it was a nice, little personal touch and oh, poor little Jack has to eat Oatmeal every morning. Ick! Get that boy some Cap'n Crunch Hotch! ;)

I didn't care for Garcia's rant, mainly because she made it sound like the behavior was something new for Morgan, as though he's typically this heroic man who's always in control and never makes things personal and acts like an asshat when he's kind of known for that type of behavior. I think I would've rather had seen Reid have a nice moment with him since Morgan has always been there for Reid in the past. I would've liked a little less angst from Morgan, but hey, that's Morgan. He is the emotional one in the group and it would be out of character if he didn't go off like a angry bomb and lash out at everyone and everything when he's upset so kudos to the writer for capturing that and allowing us to see his flaws. Loved when Rossi made him stay behind at the crime scene and how Hotch as usual took the high road and was just there for him and kind of gave him just enough leash to do what he needed to do to make things right, but also a short enough leash (in the form of Reid, Rossi, and himself) to reel him back in when he lost control. Loved the moment between Morgan and Reid at the crime scene as well. While I did enjoy the girls' little interrogation scene, I'm just not a big fan of cocky, badass JJ and her challenging Hotch to get back in there and break the suspect kind of made me roll my eyes. I just enjoyed JJ more when she was the liason who was arguably just as qualified as the rest of them, but never felt the need to prove that to anyone. Just one question though. How did we see Morgan's family walk away and Garcia suddenly move in beside Morgan? She wasn't in Chicago. Did I miss something?

For me, it was another OK episode but one of the better ones from season 7

Last week I thought I dont want more seasons (meaning like a 12 season or something) if they are going to be like CSI but well, maybe is the road, to have an OK show with great moments (like this episode, with this great moment at the interrogation with JJ and Emily I actually believe JJ has always been a hard/bad ass girl but we weren't able to see that side very much) and some decent episodes. And is weird to read more people feel the same about the CSI thing

I will keep watching, because I love the show but is sad to see we only have, from time to time a good episode; and this makes me admire most the cast, because their acting is what keeps this thing working

I thought the episode was good and I think that its good that the story surrounding Cindy's disappearance came to a conclusion.
Morgan's family has been basically grieving for her for 8 years, and they deserve answers. Knowing that she was in like a cult rather than just being kidnapped and murdered was better, because her mother always felt that she was still alive and she just needed help coming home.

I am surprised that Morgan's sister survived that car accident, after being hit twice on both sides of the car. To me it was a miracle but I am glad that she did survive I just don't think his family can go through another crisis. I know that JJ is a prfiler now but I just don't like her in this role. I don't know its just from where she was before (earlier seasons) to how she is now she's totally different to me.

She just doesn't come off as believable like the others do. I did read that Erica Messer said that Hotch and Morgan are suppose to have this conversation at the end but it never happened. To be honest I understand they both lied about someone being dead, but their situations and reasonings are very different. So I don't really see why they have to have this talk when one was a personal family matter, and the other was a professional partnership. I know that the feeling of losing someone close is the same and it doesn't matter if its a friend from work or a family member. To me one just didn't have anything to do with the other. Overall the episode was good but not great still needs improvement.

I thought this episode was brilliant I was skeptical at first because it was Morgan centric but it had a beautiful ending and i especially loved how prentiss and JJ worked together when interrogating Malcolm :)

Thank you CM, I loved this episode, I was losing interest in the Morgan character, cause i felt all he was doing was knocking down doors. Morgan was great i'm so glad they had him using his profiling skills to solve the case and how Rossi stepped in and looked out for Morgan before he lost control, the scenes with Morgan and his family were so sad, everything about Morgan in this episode i loved, so much better than Foundation.

I also liked the JJ/Prentiss moments, they are so BFF. I really like JJ the profiler and she's becoming a favorite of mine especially since my favorite is leaving the show. Looking forward to more JJ.

The Morgan and Garcia scene at the end, who knows maybe she has a lot of free time now that she broke Kevin heart, seriously i didn't get it either how or when she turned up.

I really liked this episode. It was different and showed you a different kind of unsub than they normally show.

The only thing I didn't like was when morgan was talking to the lawyer. The lawyer gave up the kids' location way to easily in my opinion. They should created a little more conflict there to make it more believable.

Is it just me or is MGG/Reid seriously being ignored this season? Whatever happened to the headache storyline? One episode and that is all we get of it?

Anonymous said...

Headache? Team members have been shot, stabbed, staked in the gut, and beaten to a pulp. Reid rubbed a little dirt on it, sucked it up, and went back in the game. GB

Pat said...

Yes, Anon, I agree that Reid has been seriously ignored this season. Someone even asked Breen Fraser about it in the set report and he had no answer to give as to why.

Erica did promise an end to that arc but Erica's big at making promises and not delivering so I won't be counting on anything I hear she's said in the future.

Fact is, regardless of what type of story any fan might prefer, if the team, at least for a while, is reduced in number by not replacing the Prentiss character and there is a reorientation on the profiling aspects of the show, there will be more exposure for all of the core characters and actors. I doubt the powers that be will leave the team thus reduced for a variety of reasons, but I think it would be worth considering in the short term at least. GB

Rerun tonight. Criminy! It's almost as if they're trying to drive viewers away. I really don't understand this scheduling. They pick up some momentum recently with two or three pretty good episodes, of different types, and then they fizzle it away. I guess that's Hollywood. GB

It was alright. I feel like Morgan's gotten a great deal of focus this season though, so I'm a little over it. I get the impression that Morgan is Messer's pet character, and it's starting to get on my nerves.

I miss alot of the old interactions between the team members, and while Reid has gotten attention in the past, I'm in the boat with a bunch of other people in saying he's gotten short-changed quite a bit this season. That whole headache nonsense was such a waste of time.

Anonymous 44 said...

Above Anonymous: I wholeheartedly agree. Not complaining about too much Morgan but there is definitely not enough Reid. Not for a L-O-N-G time. I hope this gets resolved during his contract negotiations...I totally get his being excited about directing opportunities, but when he's acting, I'd like to see MORE of him. That whole headache debacle was just that - as my elderly auntie would say: horse manure! :)

I thought this was a relatively good episode, one of the best in an overall weak season. I'm am so with the last two posters on Reid: he's been reduce to almost cameo appearances this season. Considering that he's the main draw for me (and how popular his is in general) I am beyond frustrated at how minor a character he has become. That plus the weak writing has made this a really hard season for me to get through. Anon Q

I thought this ep was good, always love interactions with Morgan/Garcia, but their arguement was a little too harsh- she just wouldn't do that to a hurting Morgan, their other interactions was much more like they normally are, concerned and caring The writing is just missing the mark someplace - actually in the last two years - and where is our wonderful Reid, have they forgotten that thousands watch for him weekly?
