CRIMINAL MINDS: FUN ON A FRIDAY NIGHT

Criminal Minds: A while back, I asked what you thought each member of the BAU might eat for breakfast. Tonight, I'm wondering what you their favorite game or toy from childhood was. What did Jason Gideon, Aaron Hotchner, Derek Morgan, Emily Prentiss, Spencer Reid, JJ Jareau and Penelope Garcia enjoy playing with when they were kids?

I think Reid and Garcia liked CandyLand...not too sure about everyone else.

Garcia: Peanut Butter and Banana sandwiches with fries.

When he was young, I'll bet Hotch played Cops & Robbers and he was always the cop. He was probably a sporty type, too--baseball or soccer. He might've like monopoly--and hated ending up in jail. *G* I think he'd've enjoyed challenging games, too--scrabble, chess...

Garcia--Life, Payday, just board games in general...

Reid: I'll bet he was playing poker as soon as he could sit at the table. *G* Wonder if his dad taught him the game? He probably played chess; also, he's seems good at patterns--so may have played scrabble or boggle. Card games in general.

Morgan: Probably preferred being outside and playing basketball and football as opposed to board games--but on rainy days, he'd like stuff with a lot of competition, maybe Monopoly? Card games, too.

I'm not too sure about the others--but I think both Gideon and Prentiss probably played chess. JJ? Well, she played soccer in HS, so I can see her playing that when she was a kid, too.

Gideon's childhood was before video games, and he had a baseball hero, so I think he played outdoors when he could. Games would have been chess/checkers, Strategy, Battle Ship.

Prentiss was raised in a political family. Possibly her free time was allocated for her. Music and language lessons, anything 'grooming' her. It would have seemed normal.

Reid, I could imagine having all the Star Trek figures. As for games, Clue, Scrabble, chess/checkers. Oh, and bet he would have had a magic set.

Garcia, I could see getting hit by the Ninetendo bug. The fantasy games being her favorite. As a teen, going to friends homes and playing 'spin the bottle'...lol.

J.J., probably was a tom girl....played softball and climbed trees. I think girly stuff would have bored her.

Morgan, basketball and football. Anything athletic.

Hotch, I think would have liked playing with the old secret code pens....where you needed to use another to reveal messages. Maybe set up a club house somewhere and played outdoor type games.

Gideon played the cowboy with the white hat. I agree he played outside, and developed his interest in birds then.

Reid did puzzles alone. he practiced magic alone. He only picked up competitive games as he got older. I think cards are a recent habit. His skill only cdeveloped when he had others to practice against.

Hotch played word games and trivial pursuit. He was a competitive runner or involved in some track sport.

Prentiss played chess and mah jongg.

Morgan played any game just to compete.

JJ played darts and board games like monopoly.

Garcia played adventure games and video games.

Hotch: Sports. I see him as someone who enjoyed playing sports.

Gideon: I see him as someone who liked chess and cards.

JJ: She told us she collected butterflies. I see her as a real girlie girl playing dress up and makeup with her friends.

Spencer Reid probably liked his Rubik's cube.

I think Reid read for play and maybe chess.

"I'm wondering what their favorite game or toy from childhood was"

Reid: books
Penélope: video games
Gideon: chess set
Morgan: rugby ball
Hotch: remote-controlled police car
JJ: soccer ball
Emily: no idea

I have a question: Soccer is European football, isn´t?

JJ would have had Barbies. Garcia would have had them too, but I bet hers got customised - she probably practised hairstyles on them and made them clothes.

Morgan probably played with his sisters' Barbies when everyone was out. But he will never admit this. I bet he liked dressing up as a cowboy or Spiderman.

I find it very difficult to imagine Gideon actually ever being a child, but I bet he liked his train set.

Emily - hmmm, I think she moved around a lot, so she probably had a very special doll or teddy bear that made her feel at home.

Hotch - liked Lego because you could build very useful things with it. I can see him spending some time making sure all his toy cars were neatly lined up in rows. And he wouldn't have liked playing in sand etc cos he would have hated having dirty hands.

Reid - I doubt he had many toys. Nothing that wasn't educational - only building blocks, jigsaw puzzles and books. But I bet he bought himself a whole set of Star Wars figurines with his first paycheck - they are on a special shelf and he tells himself he isn't playing with them, he is just "rearranging" them.

gideon would have playedd chess or with his trains, maybe looking at nature books of wild life, birds etc and develped his love of art amd cooking.moragn would be out with his friends, hotch would most likely have been studying hard for some test, same of reid, garcia would be messing around with makeup, clothes ,pretty much the same of jj,prentiss would be getting ready to go somewher with her mother on a trip aboard and learing new languages etcI would like to think that they all develpoed some other skills and intests as well.

I think that Derek Morgan is an easy one. He was definately into sports and hanging out with his friends at what turned out to be that aweful youth center.

Garcia played with tarot cards and magic 8 balls. I can see her being the fun and off beat typr of child.

I could see Garcia as a budding techno-geek with a chemistry set plotting to blow up the bully next door.
Reid would have those Scholastic Books Brainteaser Puzzlebooks at age 3,laughing at how ridiculously easy they are.
Gideon probably collected baseball cards and memorabilia.
Hotch would be doing something staid at age 7 like collecting stamps while wearing a tie tightly knotted at his neck.
Morgan we know just loved his Big Wheels.
JJ was born with a soccer ball in her hands.
Emily probably had a kiddie tape player for her Berlitz tapes so she can master all the languages in the world.

Legos for Reid. I can see him building spaceships and really complicated things with them.

I think someone who grows up to be a careful and eclectic as Garcia would probably have been raised like that. I can picture her painting and doing crafty things.

Reid: I don't see Diana Reid allowing much in the way of toys and certainly not TV; only books were encouraged and therefore not toys. I think Reid's greatest toy was his own mind: inventing magic tricks and maybe making up patterns and sci fi stories. Chess was probably okay, too, but I'm not sure who he'd play with.

Gideon: Train set

Garcia: Tech. games; took apart pcs and wrote software

Morgan: Sports games at infamous youth center

JJ: Said she "was" the girls in N. Mammon, where the only way for a girl to get out of the small town was competing against your friends in a sport that was second to the boys'. Not her toy; her tool. I think she had a Barbie that she dressed in classy business attire to reflect the high-powered woman she expected to become.

Hotch: Hotch alluded briefly to perhaps being abused as a child (I forget the ep). I think he would have been active in sports and anything that would have gotten him out of the house as much as poss. Or maybe he'd just like them.

Prentiss: I agree with the idea that Emily didn't have much of a childhood. "Groomed" (nod to Nita) is a great word. Maybe she had a secret doll, book, or other possession that she could take out in private moments and dream about a normal childhood.

Man, am I morose tonight! Quentin is fixing me a special treat. :)

I think Gideon would have been a bird watcher and obviously chess.

I have the feeling that except for Garcia none of the members of the BAU had much in the way of a traditional childhood. Something tells me that reading was big with all of them.

I think Gideon, Hotch and Morgan would have been into sports of one kind or another. I think JJ and Emily may have been really into girlfriends and things like slumber parties and the likes. Garcia would have been the tomboy in my opinion.

I can see Reid with a telescope.

I think all the men would have been very good at card games.
