There's a reason for the three marriages to have failed, eh?

I think he had three failed marriages because he let the love of his life, Emma, get away from him.

I come back after a day and there's a bunch of new posts... I need a bit to digest but I wanted to quickly weigh in on the fan idea topic. I agree that the writers really shouldn't write to please the fans. If that were the case I can guarantee somebody would always be getting disappointed, b/c not all of us want the same things. As the saying goes "you can't please everybody all of the time". I know we're all a little wary after what happened last season but hopefully mistakes have been realized and everyone is ready to start anew. I'm going into S7 cautiously optimistic. Though I must admit I am looking forward to seeing one of the ex wives.

I want to weigh in again on the writers and writing or not to please fans. As I've said before I don't want them to try and please us with details but I do hope they pay attention to the kind of comments that Eleven so eloquently wrote some days back. This kind of input is totally different from whether or not we see one of Rossi's wives, or how much time Hotch spends with Jack or who hooks up with whom. It's about the feel of the show and the deeper connection we have with the characters. It's about not writing to please a certain demographic or more importantly not succumbing too much to commercial concerns.
I know this is hard work: write good stories; appeal to an audience; keep it fresh and still true; and sell the stories to network executives with their eagle eyes on the bottom line.
I'm not dissing the fun discussions about Rossi and his past or his or anyone else's lovelife. Let's have it and enjoy it, here in this forum.
sf, you could be right about Rossi and Emma. That was a real regret for him.
Velandra,
You surviving the heat/humidity here these days? Oh, July in New England!

RMF said...

Did the loss of Emma give Rossi the excuse to make profiling the love of his life instead, or would our favorite diva have done that anyway?

Velandra said...

Theresa: Surviving isn't the word it's more like hanging on by a thread. It's beyond hot/humid, I don't leave the house unless I have to! Thank god for AC!

Gubegirl: I've never heard of that band but I'll check them out. I always like to hear good new music. Though I will always have a affinity for New Kids on the Block, they are about as far as my boy band knowledge goes.

Blimey: How many days until your vaca?

I've never really gotten the sense that the BAU is the love of Rossi's life. He indicated that his involvment with starting up the BAU is what caused him to allow a lifetime and the woman he loved to pass him by, but whereas I get the sense that the BAU is a passion or a calling for Hotch, I don't get that vibe from Rossi.

I think Rossi could walk away from it any moment and he has before. I don't think Hotch ever could and well we've seen that he can't even when offered the opportunity to do so without the worry of financial stability.

I think for Rossi it's more about being an adrenaline junkie, whether it's being in dangerous situations in the military, hunting the sickest of the psychos or feeling the rush of an adoring audience applauding his latest literary effort.

Rossi seems to be the least "damaged" of all of them and I like that about him.

gubegirl said...

sf: I totally agree that Rossi is the least damaged of the team; I see him as being the most well-rounded and adjusted apart from maybe JJ...but JJ's got her own baggage with the suicide of her sister and look how long it took her to tell the team about Will: she kinda never did...until she became PG and had to.

I would like to see Hotch's cutie patootie brother, Sean/Shawn again. I've always wondered at his absence during Haley's funeral, etc. Haven't seen his sis-in-law again either and I have to wonder if she is still caring for Jack?

And I think the appearance of one of Rossi's former wives would be too appropos...easy for the writers to include in a storyline and give us a peek into what makes Rossi tick! Kinda like catching him with his guard down, ya know?

CMFan11: How many more descriptive adjectives and adverbs can you dole out today or does nightfall bring those out in you?? :) Maybe it is the heat....LOL

Velandra: Please give a listen. See if Westlife's "Don't Get Me Wrong" doesn't start out sounding just like John Mayer! (if you are a Mayer fan at all, I think you will ID with this) I would have sworn it was him (dueting with several others) and my jazz teacher laughed at my wrong guess because she always calls on me to ID any new song's singer.

Blimey: does your Sergio care to come hang out with my Bella who is still holed up while we adjust to the presence of Stella? (Your dad called and said he would love to...:) Bella's very playful altho she is HUGE. She's never had anyone other than dogs to play with and I would love to see how she would behave! Hah!

RMF said...

I agree that Rossi doesn't have Hotch's missionary zeal. Who does, really. If what happened to Hotch happened to him, he'd probably walk. Well, after destroying Foyet down to the atomic level. Neither is there any sign that his affiliation to the BAU arises out of a personal victimization, like Hotch or Morgan, who are really very similar in everything but personality. But consider the drive of a man who was instrumental in creating the BAU, and consider that he really wasn't able to walk away. He came back because he obsessed about a case he couldn't solve and the suffering it caused. He cultivates an air of detachment with his flip attitude and snarky comments, but he's also got those moments when his passion for the job breaks through, such as his confrontation with Colonel Costanza. So I guess I was asking whether he screwed up his marriages over losing Emma, or he half-assed all his relationships anyway because behind the irreverence, he's as much of an obsessional workaholic as any of them.

A very interesting character, with an lot of unexplored potential.

Which discussion brings me to my viewpoint on the whole bit about the writers writing to please the audience or not: whereas few people would support the idea of dictating to the writers, we're still a key part of the process. The writers probably want feedback, because there is no play without the audience. One can become too close to the material to discern whether it is actually effective. On the one hand, they should have the courage to pursue an dramatic vision, but it's also possible to become lost, myopic, or misguided about a story line. I don't imagine they will adopt any of our ideas, but discussions like ours convey what has gotten across to an audience, what mysteries remain, and what holes there are to be filled.

Probably a combination of both. : )

Very insightful RMF,

I whole-heartedly agree with your last paragraph.

I'd also like 2 add that I think the writers/producers/CBS etc....OWE us an amazing season and at least take the time to look at discussions such as ours and verse themselves in previous seasons of CM to keep continoutiy(Spell check please on that word?)from season to season and each character from S1 till going into
S7.

As well as using their resources and innate creativity to bring back CM to it's days of compelling profiling, interesting- but still human profilers who aren't so compartmentalized to the job they never break down, just enough character background to keep us begging for more, not too many arcs/ or better yet no arcs at all.

And lastly, more Garcia who is quirky, witty, and in front of her computer more instead of other duties.

I'd also like 2 c the team go back slighlty to their personalities when they first started. Enough to where we can still see a glimmer of their former self underneath all the recent hurt and pain.

Finally, like someone previously stated I'd like 2 see the team realize how much a loss of a human beings life can take a toll on you, and not resort to violence or seeing the unsub to fully understand them.

Greetings! Am now nearly dead – it’s approaching midnight and I’ve finally finished packing, sorting out the house and making that damn cheesecake. Even during The Killing I was running around like a blue-arsed fly during the ad breaks!

@ Eleven:

Enjoy Chile - I've always fancied going to Peru for some reason. I would say enjoy London, but... ;-))

@ sf81387:

I’d be interested to know if the writers have Rossi’s past mapped out, but are yet to use it. The bloke’s not without a dime or two, and there’s plenty of gold-diggers out there. You’d think as a profiler he’d be able to weed out the mercenary types, but then they do say love is blind.

With regard to kids, he may not have any of his own, but perhaps he’s one of those doting uncles/Godfathers (in the non-horse’s head sense)? Italians are usually very family-orientated so that could make sense if he’s got lots of nieces and nephews.

@ Velandra:

Three days and counting! Off to my parents' place tomorrow to deposit the cat, then on Saturday I'm off to stay a night with my friend who lives ~15 minutes from Manchester Airport and then the flight's on Sunday.

@ Gubegirl:

My cat would try to eat yours! He was attempting to savage one of next door's dogs through the fence earlier this evening. He likes people though!

I’m sure with time and patience Stella will calm down, settle in and become one of the family when she realises she’s not going anywhere and you always come back.

Westlife? They were/are popular over here – but are often considered a spin-off of Boyzone.
It’s deemed acceptable to like Westlife, but Boyzone…

**Rolls around on floor laughing and stuffing perfectly matched socks into mouth**

…were dire. They presented themselves as wholesome Irish boys who loved their mammas, but I used to work with a girl from Dublin who knew one of them as their families were good friends; she said he’d changed immensely since becoming famous, and there’s been plenty of stuff in the press over the years about some of the others. Hmmmm – google ‘em.

I’ve always wanted to do a big US roadtrip and by going it alone I march to the beat of ONLY my own drum!! Once I’ve got this trip and a couple of other things out of my system, then I’ll think about doing the settling down thing. Don’t mind being with a friend or friends in Europe, but this is *my* trip. Not sure if my cousin will be in Sin City next week, as she’s there this week (God help the locals, that girl *is* the party).

Have googled Trader Joe’s – there’s one a five minute drive from the hotel so will go for a mooch round.

It's now Friday and I NEED sleep. Laters y’all…

Blimey Limey said...

Should add my speculation about Rossi's marriages ending (and gold-diggers) is me trying to add a different slant to the debate. It's certainly not meant to be definitive and it's probably slightly on the flippant side.

Bear in mind over the past four nights I've had fewer than twenty hours sleep in total and it's finally come back to bite me on the posterior...

Wow, the discussions have taken an interesting turn – love it!
After watching Minds for so long, I’ve often asked myself if I had it in me to be in a job such as theirs. The answer has always been a resounding ‘no’. I feel that these men and women need a special something, a certain je ne sais quoi, to do what they do, and without an almost consuming passion and a sense of righteousness, they wouldn’t be able to do justice to it, nor could they justify to themselves and their families the sacrifices that it called for. They are caught between two opposing compulsions – to understand and therefore to empathise with the unsub, to go to the heart of their psychosis, while empathising with the victims and trying to prevent another life from being severed violently and prematurely. In such a situation, how do you keep your heart out of it? Therein lies my unique Hotch problem - I was writing about someone else but i think this could hold true for Hotch as well (i cannot not think of Hotch – sorry!). He let the world slip between himself and his grief. He filled that space with his son, his team and his work. And when he wasn’t looking, the world slipped through and brought him, suddenly, face to face with the grief and mourning he had been denying himself for so long. They do need to show this confrontation on screen, in my opinion. I would feel a bit cheated if they didn’t.

Eleven said...

contd....

RMF - that was a touching and powerful summation of Rossi’s character. The Emma episode showed us a little something about his life and his passion. He probably needs a work mask, without which he’d always be too close to the darkness, too close to his own demons, and too far away from life and light. He is also older than the rest of them – perhaps that’s why he seems more perfectly balanced, more put together. Here is, unlike Hotch i believe, a man who has mourned and accepted what he has lost and the enormity of it. He seems self-assured and confident about who he is. As i’ve said before, i don’t think Hotch is ever that sure of himself, despite the confidence he shows at work.

Eleven said...

Contd....

I think Prentiss is a lot like these two men – perhaps her experience u/c and her stories of un-belonging (i doubt she was ever in one place for too long) compelled her to seek refuge in false personas (i’m not saying she isn’t genuine but that her previous work and her unconfined life made her adopt a different self just so she could survive). That is why Morgan found it so difficult to associate the Emily that he knew and the Lauren she had to become. Like Rossi, she is able to take a lot of things with a pinch of salt – she is capable of being just as irreverent and just as snarky, boss/es be damned. And now that we know her past, i wonder if she has confronted it or has she, like hotch, pushed and pushed it till it was so deep she could almost believe that it never happened. That’s why i think her relationship with Morgan is so important – perhaps her identification with him has some much-needed distance. She is definitely closer to him than she is to Hotch (relationship-wise – plus, he is her boss) and she needs Morgan i think just as you’d need your ‘other’. Hotch just seems too close to what or who she is, and that to me does evoke some fear. Knowing yourself is a scary thing 
Right, i’ll talk about the other characters later!

Eleven said...

I've obviously gone berserk here!!

Thanks, Teresa, for saying i was 'eloquent' (I’ve struggled with depression and words are the first things you lose...). I’m glad if i made some sense.

Blimey, i’m looking forward to my second visit to limey London! I love the place – helps to have friends there, though. I never felt lost – pleasantly odd in a completely new place. Maybe another trip to the comedy club if there’s time.... Saw Billy Elliot (the play) last time – what would you recommend?

CMFAN11 said...

@ Eleven:
Don't sweat it! I like your opinion.

And also you brought up Prentiss, although JJ would've been a plus all is right in my world as far as ur post lol

Teresa H. said...

RMF,
You said it beautifully in the last paragraph of your last post. Thank you.
And Eleven
You captured for me what I really want to see with Hotch. You know him well.
Watched that episode last night set in Rossi's hometown. Was a while since I'd seen it and it was interesting to watch it with eyes trained by these Rossi centered comments of the past several days.
It was so moving to see him in that scene on the plane with Hotch as he talked about letting Emma slip out of his life. Not so flippant and detached. Showing real emotion in a quiet understated way. And he was very concerned that Hotch know he did not have a one night stand with her in NYC. Great moment watching Hotch's response to his question about Hotch letting the most wonderful things( not his exact words)in his life slip away. There was no real answer, as there often isn't in life, we just saw the pain on Hotch's face.

Blimey Limey said...

Checking in now I've escaped from work & am topping up my caffeine levels before heading south (hope the motorway isn’t too foul – it’s Friday so there’s a very good chance it will be). I get a lie-in tomorrow though!!! ;-))

@ Eleven:

I don’t think I could do *that* job. I perceive that in such a role, a person would pretty much have to commit themselves 100% to the job and for probably close to 100% of the time – it would never totally leave you; you wouldn’t be able to walk out of the door and leave it all behind. This would, over time, have a detrimental effect on the rest of your home life; no matter how hard you try to maintain a semblance of normality. The erosion of personal relationships and increased stress levels as more and more emotional baggage is brought away from the office… as Hotch has discovered to his cost. I wholeheartedly agree that we need to see the repercussions of this on screen – I don’t mean him going doolally for half an episode, but *something* to show that he can’t ignore his grief/guilt any longer. How? I’m not sure… that’s why I’m not a TV writer!

Agreed about Rossi’s work mask – I have one of those… ;-)) …but not to the level suggested for Rossi. People at work only see what I want them to see; there’s a permanent barrier up which means I can do my job, leave everything there and never take anything (literal and figurative) home with me. It gets me through and means I can enjoy my time away from the workplace. I work to live rather than live to work; I think the opposite can be mentally and physically dangerous if taken to an extreme for a long period of time. As that great philosopher Ferris Bueller once said: “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

Prentiss - imho you summed her up well. I can’t add any more!

My recommendations for London… Hmmm!

I usually say something like “get the hell out of there asap” or “go to Scotland” as the place is vile once you scratch the surface. I lived 20 miles (30 minutes on the train/45 minutes in the car) from the centre between the ages of 7-21 (although from 18 I was in Manchester during university term times) so we used to go loads - it soon loses its appeal.

However, I do miss the museums - there’s something for everyone. I’m not particularly into theatre, so not the best person to ask about that side of things. Shopping - it used to be a treat as there’s obviously a much better selection of shops and stuff, but with the internet these days you don’t need to go into the cities. Don’t even think about driving - as soon as I passed my test my Dad made me drive right through the centre, I’ve never been as scared in my life! And it’s apparently one hell of a lot worse now (plus, you get charged for driving in the congestion zone). He also regularly made me drive in the southern suburbs when I was a learner driver - a true baptism of fire but it set me up well.

Avoid the tube (the Underground) if you can, every nutter in England can be found there and at peak times it’s like being rammed into a cattle truck. Get yourself some proper English grub (food) - none of that ploughman’s nonsense; it’s only put on menus for tourists. I would say go to the chippy and get fish (or pie) & chips, but southerners can’t do decent chippy chips – us northern scumbags are the experts on that front! And a nice cup of tea – get yourself a proper brew (none of that PG Tips rubbish) and a plate of chocolate digestives to dunk in your cuppa. If you end up with half an inch of sludge at the bottom of your mug you know you’ve mastered things.

I may have to brave The Smoke sometime soon, some friends from school want to have a bit of a reunion and as they all live in Kent/SE London it looks like the northern monkey will have to venture south of Birmingham.

**Shudders**

Right y’all - I’m off to contend with the racetrack which calls itself the M6. Urgh…

For a great morning pick me up, check out youtube for MGG's Aldo video. 1)he looks great 2)he does magic 3)he is wearing matching socks (I guess if you are doing a shoe ad it is kind of necessary)
Lots of fun

I often wonder if they sometimes take comfort in the fact that the job "consumes" them. It can be hard to deal w/ life and relationships and having a job that they have to focus on so completely might make past mistakes and losses easier to push into the background. I think Hotch is a good ex. of a person who uses his job as a way not necessarily to forget the pain but to push it so deep that it doesn't have to be dealt w/ right away. Okay I must get to the store and it's so incredibly hot/humid....

Blimey: Have a wonderful trip, GF, hope it is exciting in all things good and uneventful in all things bad. Does that even make sense?

I am on overload today, juggling errands, exercise, appts, dogs/cat in prep to see Train and Maroon 5 tonite. So very excited. Hope to get some good shots of that eye candy otherwise known as Adam Levine ( I will photoshop out the tats:) and I will have a chance to try out my new Mo Day gift: perma focus binocs by Bushnell - oh, yeah, when you have the 2nd tier seats but wish you were front and center!

Anonyomous; Thanx for the Aldo tip - our boy is looking cute as ever. I only wish I could be a fly on the wall down at Comi-Con to see him in person. My son volunteers down there every year for free entrance and I told him to try and get a shot of MGG-at least on his phone. Silly kids wondered who that was again...! Reminded him he was from CM and to look for the skinniest but most handsome "kid" there, prob'ly dressed in pink or lavender and acting geeky. That if he could leave his usher/doorman duties long enuf to hightail it over to the Wireless or the Hard Rock, he might stand a better chance at getting me a pic. He kinda rolled his eyes and left mumbling something... Sigh...

Pat: I prefer KV's hair blonde too. Maybe we should send her a year's supply of dif shades of blonde to persuade her?!

Later.

re Kristin"s red hair. I think that may be a wig she is wearing for another show she is working on. I am pretty sure we have seen her as a blond in some Season shots.

Love the birthday cake photos and am very impressed by all those lovely pens KV received - I'll be paying extra attention to Garcia's lair next season!

Any chance of a link to that Aldo video, pretty please? I couldn't find it on youtube. Ta in advance!

It only took an hour longer than usual to drive to Chateau Parents. Had to come off the motorway a few junctions early as the traffic was slowing (according to the radio it was Carmaggedon a few miles down!) and every time I moved my foot between the accelerator and brake my "shin muscle" cramped up and I couldn't press my foot down unless I moved my whole leg! Luckily it eased off after a while.

@ Velandra:

Good point - focus on work and you can blank out what may be going wrong or has already gone wrong in your personal life (I don't do this, but I can imagine how it works). However, I'd imagine you can only bury your head in the sand for so long until you start to suffocate...

The heatwave has made the news over here - sounds horrific! I don't mind heat but can't be doing with humidity, even when the temperature is low, so heat + humidity is my idea of hell. Have the forecasters any idea how long it's going to go on for?

Cheers me dears (i.e. thanks!) - this'll be the longest flight I've been on (by an hour or so) and am hoping it'll be on time. Still edgy about the driving, but that'll pass. I'll just have to contend with the usual funny looks for the first three days when I walk round to the right side, look confused then walk round to the left and get in. I make a comment along the lines of "I wish they'd stop moving my steering wheel" and it clarifies things! ;-))

@ Gubegirl:

Thanks - it took two reads (blame that on my lack of sleep) but it makes perfect sense!

Hope you had a fun evening - when ignoring the tattoos did Adam Levine look like a hottie? Silly question on my part, probably!

@ Anonymous:

I was wondering if KV was wearing a wig - it just doesn't look real somehow. Last time it was red, it looked like hair. This looks... not real.

**Slaps herself around the head in light of limited vocabulary**

Sleep is calling - don't have to get up until 9.30am. Bliss...

(Not sure i like red KV/PG, but it's fun i must admit - and AJ and TG are both looking a bit thin. have more of that cake - now don't be shy.)

Thank you, anon, for the link to MGG's ALDO vid. He is funny, as always, and as handsome as ever!! Looks FINE in a suit, that one!

SF, you're magic! How you keep track of what's happening where amazes me....you must be extremely organised (and of course equally sensible)! (i bow to thee, oh great one.) Black tee, hair, arms, smile....and so it begins. Damn him - day ruined, chores undone, words and thoughts slipping away, marbles bouncing around the apartment missing my head, eyes glazed over....Teresa, my girl, if you find any of these errant marbles, toss 'em over to me, will ya? Apparently i need them at work.

I'm thinking about Reid (sort of, as i'm still a tiny bit distracted by his boss)....at some point i should be able to string a few sentences together and hope to make some sense. I find it very difficult to write about the character. Gubegirl, Pat, Velandra - why don't you have a go at it?

Eleven said...

Right, Reid –
There are so few of us in this world that are this ‘good’ - you want to treat them differently and you’re always left feeling a little worried about hurting them. They are so entirely trusting that you wonder how you’ll keep them from darkness and from betrayals. They bring out in us the same protective streak that is evoked in the presence of a beautiful flower or a child – you want them to remain unblemished, away from pain, brutality and even from time. Reid becomes more interesting when you add his incredible mind to the equation and the vicissitudes of his job. How do you shelter him from the exhausting betrayals of life, the many abandonments, and sometimes the utter absence of innocence? Paradoxically, i think his job and mind create a protective layer over what is inside – as long as he has these externalities to act as a shield, he is not completely broken. I remember his enormous guilt about his mum and how hard it was for him to admit it to an outsider who so quickly became his own because of that ‘confession’. It was, to a degree, an erosion of his innocence, but it also, simultaneously, gave him strength. He is not socially inept like the many fictional characters we know – his awkwardness i think comes from the opposing impulses of the ideal and the real – thus his abandonment issues, thus his anger, thus his vulnerabilities. I cannot think of him without thinking of very young children – it’s not childishness i’m referring to here; rather, the childlike qualities that life takes away from us, a little every day. I’d understand if he was the most affected by Prentiss’s fake death and AH and JJ’s necessary lies.

Blimey Limey said...

Ahhhh, that lie-in was marvellous. I feel like a new woman.

@ Anon:

Cheers for the Aldo link - this is the second time recently I've seen MGG (the first was some NYC photoshoot he did for a magazine) where I've thought "Bloody hell, our 'Reid' actually scrubs up pretty niiiiice!" Not sure whether it's because he's being a bit of a cheeky chappie in the ad, but... yeah, I watched it again straight after! ;-)) Unfortunately, even if it gets shown over here, I won't be buying Aldo shoes again - I find them really uncomfortable and I can't even say I've got weird feet as an excuse.

sf81378:

You must have scoop/piccies radar, it's the only explanation I can come up with!

I'm relying on you this summer...

@ Eleven:

T'was a pleasure, although I still reckon Scotland's your safest bet. ;-))

I agree that TG is still looking a tad thin. Swiss food is delicious (albeit waaaaaaay too salty), he should be bursting out of that pink shirt by now!

Nice summing up of Reid; I'm looking forward to seeing how the fallout from last season affects him next season (and pur-lease clear up that headaches storyline).

Right folks, time to get up and get ready. Am NOT looking forward to nearly two hours on a Limey train - the epitomy of all that's wrong with this country (overpriced and full of nutters).

There are many similiarities between Adam Levine and Pat Monahan: both are tall, thin, dark-haired, have grea "girl voices - easy to eat the high notes) and they move non-stop. Hop around like they are ADHD and hard to get good pics: all the shots seem like action photos.

M-5 did a cover of the MJ song Man in the mirror: fabulous. Train did a cover of a great song which I am too tired to recall right now but they have a new viola or cello player (female) which added a whole new dimension to their show with her white gown, dancing and soft vocals.

I loved it. Did not get home til 1:30 AM-the traffic was as horrific as Reid's headaches. Gave me a headache, actually.

Off to get Stella some much needed dog-training. Hope that Blimey got off OK, still think she should have left her cat with me; Stella would have someone else to pester other than our chihuahua.

Will catch-up later with all your posts, but Eleven, you are knocking yourself out with the team member's profiles, GF, you just keep on keepin' on!

@ Eleven

I write about Reid all the time on FF. All my stories are about him so I've definitely had and continue to have a go at it. I'm trying to write to a song prompt now, not the easiest. Why do I accept these challenges?

That aldo video was so cute. I've watched it a few times.

I hope it's just a wig on KV because I don't think it suits her.

Happy Saturday everybody. Have fun at the concert gubegirl.

Pat said...

@Eleven

I thought your description of Reid was so beautiful and right on target.

CMFAN11 said...

Hahaha so I just saw the "Homeland" trailer with Mandy patikin. He looks bad. He's on a show involving terrorist and other government stuff. And yet CM was too violent for him? What a hypocrite! He grew out a mustache, he looks like a hobo on crack.

I'm so glad he's gone and JM took his place as Rossi. Good move EM!

Velandra said...

Thanks for all the great pics Jill! That cake looks absolutely yummy. Kirstens pens looked great too, can't wait to see which ones she uses.

cmfan11: as for MP I can't say I've seen the "Homeland" trailer but your description was quite colorful. I was a fan of his since I saw him in "Dead like Me" a show on Showtime about 7 years ago. He left that one too after one season, it seems a pattern for him. Though I missed him at first I can now safely say I prefer JM any day of the week.

Eleven: you are on fire!

Gubegirl: I'm glad you had a good time last night. I must admit I'm partial to Adam Levine, tattoos and all! Hope all goes well w/ the doggy training.

Teresa H. said...

Eleven,
Have just had time to spend some time with your piece on Reid. I think you captured him beatifully.
That the writers get the essentials/the soul of the characters will be a much bigger factor in whether I enjoy S7 than how much screen time any of them have.

Teresa H. said...

Just went back to look at those photos of our golfing TG. He may look skinnier but those biceps look pretty good. Are those part of his soul? Gives herself a smack for being naughty. :)

gubegirl said...

Wow. Just went back to ck and see some major typos. That's what you get when your typing too fast and not editing!

That would be 'great' girl voices and 'hit' the high notes; not EAT them - Hah!

Blimey Limey said...

Ha! I'm wired on a combination of Chinese takeaway, fluorescent booze, two cups of tea and the general excitement of it being 1am on Sunday and therefore five hours until I have to get up to be chauffeurred (sp?) to the airport.

**Manic laughter**

Last time I stayed here at Chateau Bestie before going to Manny Airport it involved getting up at 4am for a 7am flight to Zurich - and I eventually got to sleep at 2am!

@ Eleven:

A nice little compilation there - TG needs to sign up for my footie (can't bring myself to say the s-word) team. We need some eye candy and he'd look fab in claret & blue. He'd probably also be better than most of them - doesn't take much these days! ;-))

@ Gubegirl:

Sounds like you had a good time - did you have the "walk out at the end as deaf as a post" thing going on?!

For everyone's sake, the cat is in the best place - annoying my Dad with any luck. Haha! He *would* eat your cat and pooches, btw.

I read a (fiction) book years ago where this girl called her cat Bundy because it was obsessed with killing birds (bird is UK slang for a woman). Genius!

Right y'all, I'm going to try to get some shut-eye. Bring on the City of Sin...

p.s. The Limey train was foul. Nuff said.

Blimey Limey said...

I mean my cat would eat your cat & pooches, not my Dad. He prefers a nice steak!

gubegirl said...

OK, Blimey, now I am convinced that your cat should be an unbsub...or at a minimum, the per of an unsub...you know the cannibal, flesh-eating kind?!

Stella had a great training lesson. Gots lots of att'n and great tips to get her fearfulness and rowdy behavior (which is already greatly improved) under control.

My ears are so used to music:

1.) being cranked up here at home whenever a good song comes on the radio
2.) being cranked up in the car so that I can rock out properly while motoring about
3.) standing next to the speaker at jazzercise
so that
4.) concerts...well, I am prob'ly numb to it. Prob'ly partly deaf, too but haven't had my hearing ck'ed anytime recently, so, who knows?

The amphitheater (Cricket, Chula Vista, CA) is outside with pretyy good acoustics, helps. Not nearly so bad as the indoor arena.

Can't stop thinking about Adam Levine not singing "Moves like Jagger" last nite..would have SO-O-O loved that. The guy has the moves like no one (except maybe Mick) and I'll bet after watching his flexibility last nite, he can do standing splits better than my yoga instructor! Sigh...

Have a great trip, GF, and I hope that you get past the 100+ temps in the east and mid-west. At least Nevada is prepped for heat and everything is A/C'd!

Keep cking in and apprise us of your adventures because many of us here have none...LOL.

gubegirl said...

That would be PET not per...does he PURR at the concept of devouring other mammals???!!! What is this beast's name anyway? We may need to put out an APB for him in case your dad can't keep him under control...

Also, that would be pretty good acoustics, not pretyy!

Later, y'all.

At Manchester Airport making the most of my 30 free wi-fi minutes. Case was 2kg over but they didn't give a rat's ass!

We don't say rat's arse, because "rat arsed" is slang for being drunk.

Well y'all... You do realise this'll be my only source of scoop this summer? My netbook is too slow to cope with lots of surfing to all the lovely spoiler sites out there, so keep up the good work. Need my CM scoop and general goodness.

The cat... we'll call him "The Cat", although he has three different names he'll answer to (one not used in polite company). Apparently he was raising hell at 5.45am and he's missing me.

**Guilt trip**

Roll on Sin City...

gubegirl said...

Oh, Blimey...your maternal instincts are hangin' out there, GF!

Bella also whines here at 5:45 A.M. Must be a cat thing!

I notice altho' only one of Cat's names are inappropriate, you still don't natell us his name...hmmm...I do believe we'll be contacting our good Dr. to have him work up a quickie profile to determine the reason behind this behavior....you won't mind, will you? He should still be in town for Comic-Con and I'll just scoot right down there to have a quick word with him (and maybe catch a few piccies - of him, not me, haven't even had my shower or coffee yet...)

Sigh...

Bring on some news, sf, you see how much we digress to entertain ea other when we have no CM to keep us occupied....can;t say we're an unfriendly bunch, now can we?

Have a good day. TZ's!

The Gube choosing dinos over Comic-Con? Who knew? Not me, since I am not a tweeter...did not see any art but did get a glimpse of his fresh haircut: abit too long in the front and WAY too short on the sides. Some Canadian barber must have gotten ahold of him or maybe our boy took the buzzer to himself...:)

He has said that he loves dinosaurs but I bet it seriously made him pause over missing Comic-Con. Love that he is such a good guy, tho', and so willing to participate in worthy causes such as this.

Oh, my. The thought of not scrolling for ten minutes/ miles is exciting but the very real possibility of the whackos jumping back on here doesn't thrill me. I am sure they wouldn't think to look weeks back as this one is (5 wks old tomorrow!)

Like being in our hidey-hole here...kinda used to being "in arrears" if you know what I mean.
Would you call us "undercover?" LOL

We need to "BE here" when Blimey gets settled in her hotel with her netbook or she may go berserk and experience a psychotic break or something! Hah! We can't have her running amuck out there on U.S. soil without our recommendations and us to keep her "in-line" - somewhat! If she runs into the nutters before we can get back to her, she's likely to go bonkers herself!

Thanks for putting up with us, Jill. Hope that you are feeling well. The cakes are absolutely gorgeous and so very creative. Great job! And thanks for the little vid w/ TG- good guy to own up that his game is not so great...I like a man with a good sense of humor but not such a big ego..:)

Two of my favorite people in the world, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse (writers/producers/showrunners for LOST) made a guest appearance at Comic-Con with some alleged never before seen footage and it made me want to do a LOST geek-out all weekend. Ah, there's nothing better than hiding inside from the heat and watching the best show in the history of television (IMO) and without commercials! : )

Criminal Minds doesn't typically generate many spoilers, not like many of the other shows do, but I promise I check all the usual places daily for anything that might be interesting. Last week was a slow week in that regard. Maybe next week will be better. I have to say that so far the CM Set Report Twitter account has been a bit of a let down, but it's early so it might improve.

Getting ready to kick back for some more LOST and get ready for another week of blistering temperatures and no relief in site. Stay cool everyone!

Update at 7.55pm: The TV has A&E (can't find ION or AMC though) and there's a double bill of CM starting in a few minutes, according to the listings on A&E's website.

Sweeeeeeeeeeet!!

Blimey Limey said...

Weird - A&E is showing The Glades (never heard of it), even though I put Pacific in the drop down menu and it said CM at 8pm. When I changed to Mountain it says no CM until 10pm.

Does it ever happen where a TV channel shows the advertised schedule from the adjacent time zone?

Am I making any sense?! Urgh...

gubegirl said...

Blimey:

You may remember I mentioned a couple times I was was having probs with my DRV guide and A&E's and ion's schedules. It would read CM but show Without a Trace, etc. But my hardcopy TVGuide and the one in the newspaper would often be wrong as well. When I called my cable co., they did some checking and surmised that some of the smaller networks change their schedules without notifying them, despite the arrangement being an update every week to the cable co. and publications.

I have "Birthright" on now from 9 to 10 PST with Glades following. Despite the cutie detective on it, I have never watched it altho' I've heard it's not bad. It certainly is no CM!

Sorry, but the weeknites are much more reliable here. Either A&E or ion should have sev. epi's on most every nite. Good luck, don't drink too many Red Bulls because they're bad for your heart!

And your heart belongs to CM as do ours, so take good care of yourself.

(I feel the same way about this thread; I am willing to continue to "dig" for it just to have the peace we have enjoyed for more than a month - it's been just luver-ly!)

Blimey Limey said...

Woke up at 4.45am bright eyed and bushy tailed - haha! Give it another day and my body clock will have crossed the Pond too.

I'll just put A&E on in the evening when I'm back and hope for our ladies & gents to appear. It's nice pottering and planning days out when you've got good TV in the background (although I may divert to Shark Week next week - I was addicted to that last summer).

Hope you Eastern folks aren't siffering too much - it's bloody hot here, but as it's low humidity I'm enjoying it!

I've been to Target so the trunk (!) is full of bottled water, Pringles and Walkers shortbread (muchos $$, but delicious and I've actually been to the factory - about 20 years ago). Scottish = good! I'm heading on out to Death Valley today - thankfully the car's AC is vicious.

Only panicked for two minutes after driving out of the lot, although having to do an illegal U-turn because I missed the turning for I-15, and then said I-15 had five narrowed lanes AND roadworks, was a real baptism of fire. I think the locals must be used to dithering tourists though!

Right, I'm off for some brekkie and a decent brew (yeah, I brought my own). Back later to comment on the rest of the CM stuff...

One thing that struck me when I was in LA a few years ago was how little drivers honked at each other. Perhaps I'm just so used to driving around Boston where there are a lot of impatient drivers that they seemed very mellow out there.
One of the local channels broadcasts 2 episodes of CM here every Sun. night, usually from 2 different seasons. Saw the one with Haley's funeral last night. I don't quite understand Strauss's attitude to Hotch. That she's a bitch does not really cover it for me. And she seems to blow hot and cold, her concern for him seemed genuine enough but it was a case of "don't let the door hit you on the way out" with the paperwork. Do I miss something or is the relationship not just well written?
And he seems to understand where she's coming from. His being an honourable, decent man doesn't cover that for me either.
Any insights, you true TZ's?

Velandra said...

Hi everyone not quite sure how I feel about the new thread. As has been said who knows what "crazies" will pop up. I kinda like it here. Well I guess it's one of those wait and see things :) just wanted to let you guys know I might not be around for awhile, maybe just popping in and out occasionally. Reason being we recently found out my husband has cancer and he will be having surgery next week. I wanted to let y'all know it's been great having you guys to commiserate w/ throughout all the CM drama.

Blimey: hope your having a great trip!

Gubegirl: maybe from time to time you could post a yummy recipe that I could tempt my hubby w/ once he starts to feel better.?

Well I'll talk to you guys later and look forward to you /Jill keeping me updated on all things CM.

sf81387 said...

One thing that struck me when I was in LA a few years ago was how little drivers honked at each other.

After the road rage incidents in the late 80s, drivers in Los Angeles became a bit more cautious about gestures that might enrage other drivers.

This is my take on Strauss. I could be way off, but it's how I've always read her.

I think the Strauss/Hotch relationship is one of the better written relationships on the show. In the beginning, it was all about her eliminating the competition. She had her eyes set on top leadership and so did he and he was going to get noticed and get promoted ahead of her so she was doing everything in her power to make him go away. The relationship was simple in those days.

By the time Season 3 rolled around and she'd done what she'd done to get rid of him, both of their points of view had begun to change. Hotch had come to understand that the BAU is his calling, his purpose, who he was and no longer had his sights set on anything more than what he was doing. Strauss got a taste of what he and his team deal with on a daily basis and got to see first hand how important his leadership was to the success of the team and more importantly, she got to see that he's no longer a threat to any promotions in her future.

Strauss is a bureaucrat first and a human-being second. On a human level she cares about what Hotch has been through, but on bureaucratic level she has to consider the bureau first and what's best for Hotch second.

Hotch retiring and the bureau not having to deal with the many possible ramifications of what happened to him and his family would've been the best scenario for the bureau. So, on a human level Strauss was offering the man a way out if he wanted it, but on a bureaucratic level she was looking out for the best interests of the FBI and really hoping, without pushing or insisting, that he'd take the retirement.

I always believed that the whole "let's make Morgan Unit Chief" thing was a scam cooked up between Hotch and Strauss because she knew the higher ups were going to force her to reassign him. She would reassign him without hesitation because her job and how she looks matters more than anything else to her, but she wasn't going to do so without giving him the option of finding a temporary solution that would appease the higher ups.

Also, if you watch her conducting the interviews in "100", she seems to be doing everything she can to steer them into giving her the answers she needs in order to clear Hotch of any wrong doing.

In the beginning she wanted him gone, but that's not the case any longer. However, her job takes precedence over any personal feelings she has for him or any of the rest of them. She is 100 percent bureaucrat and she plays it well.

I love her. She's my favorite female character on this show. : )

As for Hotch, he does understand where she's coming from. He respects the chain of command and while he may not always respect her actions, he respects her authority and on some level understands the fence she straddles on a daily basis. He struggles with many of the same issues as she does, but unlike her, he's willing to put himself on the line for a member of his team. However, he gets that his willingness to protect his team even if it costs him his job is a personal choice and he doesn't expect Strauss to ever do the same for him or any of the rest of them. That doesn't mean he agrees with the choices she makes, only that he understands why she makes them.

OMG, Velandra, I am SO sorry to hear about your hubbie; best of luck with his surgery and any treatment. I spent an hour with my GF this AM whose adult daughter has the rare osteo-sarcoma and am trying my very best to be as understanding and supportive as she goes thru this up & down miserable time. It's about time for more cinnamon rolls before her next round of chemo...comfort food.

I will be glad to share any recipes or ANYTHING you can think of to lift your family's spirits during this difficult time.

I wish Jill could find a way for us to stay here because this thread has become a somewhat intimate place for us to share and is unlike any blogs for fansites, I'm sure. I feel so close to you guys, I feel as tho' I am e-mailing you each almost every day and my husband actually asked if I had invited Blimey to visit during her SW portion of her trip! I explained that I had mentioned it but that we have no "direct" means to ea. other, that this is only a blog.

He doesn't get it because he doesn't blog and I never have either except for this one. I don't Facebook or tweet or anything nor do I care to: I just come here and hang-out and I know a few of you are the same and it is comfortable.

Must get my shower as it is now noon and my jazz sweat has long since dried and you are currently listening to a "dirty woman!"

Hope I made you smile and hang in there and know that I'm sure that I speak for most of us that will be praying for your family:)

TY for the MGG vid, Jill; it is so refreshing to know there is someone as talented as our Matthew and yet so unassuming nor egotistical...so very humble and that's why I love him.
Matthew: you make me smile so that my face hurts! KYWK, sweetness.

XOXOX to you, too Velandra.

RMF said...

Here is, unlike Hotch i believe, a man who has mourned and accepted what he has lost and the enormity of it. [Rossi] seems self-assured and confident about who he is. As i've said before, i don't think Hotch is ever that sure of himself, despite the confidence he shows at work.

Hotch is very aware of his own capacity for darkness, and as a man of integrity, it bothers him. He's very assured in what he does, but constantly checks himself otherwise. Rossi, on the other hand, is a more shades-of-gray kind of guy. Maybe it's about the way things were done in the old neighborhood, or maybe his relationship with darkness doesn't carry the same emotional baggage Hotch's does.

There are so few of us in this world that are this 'good' - you want to treat them differently and you're always left feeling a little worried about hurting them. They are so entirely trusting that you wonder how you'll keep them from darkness and from betrayals. How do you shelter [Reid] from the exhausting betrayals of life, the many abandonments, and sometimes the utter absence of innocence?

I've noticed that in real life, people like this can be stronger than you'd think, although the world seems to double its efforts to destroy them. Reid is too. Not many of us could have coped with abandonment and mental illness in a parent, especially at that tender an age. Even while it gave him a lasting wound, it also gave him the ability to take on a "caretaker" role protecting the world from the darkest of darkness.

He is not socially inept like the many fictional characters we know -- his awkwardness i think comes from the opposing impulses of the ideal and the real -- thus his abandonment issues, thus his anger, thus his vulnerabilities. I cannot think of him without thinking of very young children -- it's not childishness i'm referring to here; rather, the childlike qualities that life takes away from us, a little every day. I'd understand if he was the most affected by Prentiss's fake death and AH and JJ's necessary lies.

It's irritating that the show sometimes goes for the cheap laugh at the expense of the geek. It's a more appealing notion that Reid baffles his coworkers by his sheer unaffected enthusiasm for an abstruse subject rather than that there is something inherently offputting about a display of intellect. My feeling when Reid wondered how Prentiss could fail to trust them was that he was actually speaking of how much the team was his family.

Strauss:
She's always wanted Hotch gone. Whereas she was genuinely sorry for Haley's tragic loss, and it was reasonable to suppose Hotch wouldn't want to continue with the FBI, the guilty truth is that the situation keyed all too well into Strauss' desire to see the back of him. So she doesn't ask whether he wants to take early retirement, she just hands him the pen. Hotch's reaction wasn't to her attitude, I think, but to the sudden realization that he didn't want to let go.

Teresa H. said...

sf and RMF thank you for your insights into Strauss and the Hotch/Strauss relationship. I think Jayne Atkinson does a great job with the character and even though she's a bitch I love seeing her on the show. I will watch with new eyes now.
As to this thread. I too have really been enjoying our conversations. Does a new thread being opened necessarily mean this one will be shut down? Perhaps we can pop back now and then if we need to. When I started on this blog one of the things that kept me coming back was the informative, fun, thoughtful posts from some of the same cast of familiar characters that we have here now. Even amidst all the other posters there was evidence of friendly back and forths between some of the regulars. I would joyfully read the comments written by those who appeared to be real long time fans, all of you TZ's included.
I suppose where I'm going with this is that I want to exhort all of us not to be put off by any crazy, angry provacteurs that may be waiting to pounce. Let's continue to do what we do, have fun sharing knowledge, questions, zany ideas about our favourite show and let Jill deal with any who may try to spoil it. My strongest hope is that it will not become a problem.

sdwally said...

I haven't been posting lately, but I've been periodically checking in just to catch up on the lively conversation. Love that a few of you have enthusiastically kept the thread going with pebbles of wisdom, insight, information and humor.

sf, I've really have to agree with your assessment of Strauss and Hotch; and what drives them both. I too like Strauss; although she's not my favorite female character, Prentiss is. But I believe you've captured the nuances of her personality and what drives her to a tee.

gubegirl said...

sf and RMF: enjoyed your analyses of Hotch, Reid, Strauss and related comments. Very introspective and thought provoking. Are we not caught up in these people's pretend lives or what? only us TZ's could 'get' our obsession; my friends would think I was nuts if they knew how much time I spend here!

Velandra: Was it not you that said you would like recipes containing pumpkin? I will have my GF bring over the scone recipe when she comes to scrap tomorrow nite since I can't find mine but I was also thinking of a curried pumpkin soup I made for a workshop last fall that went over well and my GF's mom's pumpkin "dump" cake which is really easy, foolproof and to die for. Would be safe to say it's in the EC category. LMK and I shall post them.

Jill, pls lv this thread open if at all poss or direct us to another that's abit "buried" for the time being? I think you will see and agree that there is good reason here to do so and you would be doing us a tremendous favor if you could allow that to be possible. TY for your consideration.

I keep forgetting to tell you, BLIMEY, that A&e is running CM "Birthright" 2007, at 5 PM PST and ion has CM's from 2009 running from 9 PM on tonite until after midnite, PST. Starts with the Performer and includes "100". Would not advise watching this one on your vacation...too much of a tear jerker; you don't want your eyelids to appear swollen in case you "get lucky" and meet some cool guy who has a brain but no tats and is more than eye candy...:)

sdwally,

I love all the women (and the men too), I just really enjoy Strauss quite a bit. It's that whole love to hate thing I think. If she were on screen too much though, I'd probably not enjoy her as much.

You should come chat with us. Even though we don't always agree, I have always enjoyed reading your comments. They're so well thought out and passionate.

As for the thread. I don't care much whether it stays here or she opens a new one. I think more fans might be able to add their thoughts if they knew there was a place to do that, but I understand why some are nervous about the loons attacking again.

Sorry, no goodies today. MGG is having the time of his life digging up dinosaur bones and TG inadvertently insulted a wife and mummy. One of the make-up gals was on set very early today getting a victim ready and a relentless Hotch fan has bet Dayne $200 that 7.02 will be Hotchless. Honestly people......LET IT GO.

Oh and there was this picture of MGG's socks. Supposedly the best socks yet. I'll let you be the judge.

RMF, SF - i love your comments on Reid, Hotch, and Strauss. The best thing about the analyses is that they are all 'valid' and 'true' and they open yet another door into the complexities of the characters. It's to the writers' and actors' credit that they've not become stereotypical (well, maybe to an extent in S6) even after so many years. I, too, dislike cheap humour at the expense of the geek, but i think Minds has not been too guilty in this regard. But, yes, the team have been bemused and gobsmacked at times, which is not a bad thing really. And also, RMF, i agree with you that Reid is stronger than we might think he is. To have survived what he has is evidence enough, but it does not diminish in the people around him the need to shield him, imo.

Also, i like what you say about Hotch's self-awareness. He perhaps knows himself very well and thus his doubts. he walks a tightrope knowing full well how easy it would be to fall. He is a bit too hard on himself i find. However, that could be the very impulse that makes him such a good leader.

Thank you, Jill, for the new pics and vids. TG and golf buddy seem to be having a lot of fun! SF, thanks for The Socks - they're very artistic. Wearing art on your feet is a great idea. MGG, may i frame your socked feet, kind sir?

Read the wife and mum's comment on twitter, SF. Yep, it's a good idea to respond only after reading a comment in its entirety. The quote itself (from Ola?) uses familiar words such as 'boring' and 'safe' and deconstructs them. I found it moving.

Death Valley was stunning - had a fabulous day out AND got a better tan (while wearing suncream) in one day than I have all year on that dirty, rain-soaked little island!

The only disappointment was it "only" being 118f (48c) at Badwater Basin. I wanted 122f so I could say I'd revelled in 50c heat. It wasn't too horrific actually, although if humidity had entered the equation...

I'm really struggling to stay awake for another hour, the Red Bull isn't having much of an effect tonight.

@ Velandra:

My thoughts are with you & hubby - here's hoping he makes a speedy recovery. Join us when you can. x

@ Teresa H:

There's a fair few idiot drivers in and around Vegas, I was quite surprised as it was very civilised up in the Colorado Rockies last summer! The lack of oxygen possibly rendering us all docile?

On the way back from Pahrump some (insert appropriate potty mouth adjective) coming the other way decided to overtake... as I approached him at 70mph. If there hadn't been a hard shoulder for me to swerve onto I wouldn't be typing this now. We have loads of terrible drivers in the UK, but I've never had to do that before. Probably a Limey?!

And they drive on your arse constantly round here, it really gets on my nerves!

@ sf81387:

Spot-on about Strauss, imho. I also "like" the character; she's an uber-bitch, but underneath she's probably extremely fragile - if you scratch the surface hard enough.

Glad MGG has discovered his inner geology geek - perhaps TG's ex-beard inspired him??

Although he has a long way to do to beat the hideous socks I was wearing on the plane - the looks I got when I went for a stroll along the aisle! I'm known for wearing gaudy socks which always clash with what I'm wearing... but they always match!

@ CMFAN11:

Don't bother with England - go to Scoland instead. Much nicer!

@ Gubegirl:

I *NEED* that pumpkin dump cake recipe! As well as being delicious (that goes without saying) the name will certainly cause some amusement! ;-))

No CM on A&E so I'm watching Discovery at the moment - Bear Wotsisface eating weird things in inhospitable places. No, not England!

@ sdwally:

Come and join the dark side, you know you want to! ;-))

@ Eleven:

What's the wife & mother comment to do with TG about? He's not been sending post-it notes to his self again eh?!

Goodnight,y'all...

Syd, nice to hear from you! How are you doing?

TG's tweet - i'll only be able to access it later - unless SF pips me to the post! best verbatim - any explanation/inadvertent misquote would only lead to more confusion! Plus, it was just one person - so doesn't really matter. The whole potential Hotchless episode thing seems to have gone too far, though, as SF says!

Blimey: You sound great despite your harrowing experience! Glad you are OK. Good that you cut your teeth on the roads in NV because when you get to Cali you'll be more than ready for the whackjobs on our freeways! There's a TON of them, more in the LA area than down here, but we have more than our fair share when you add in the unlicensed, uninsured illegals!

Of course, you must have the dump cake recipe! You are going to have a job for life wherever it is that you work because of your yummy baking! Watch out, the word will get out and some reality TV cooking show will come a knockin' anyday!

Syd: Nice to know you're still with us. I must give you a mini-English lesson this AM: you are dying to take your VACATION not 'vacancy' which means to contain nothing, as "there is a vacancy in that hotel" meaning they have an open(empty and available) room. Which maybe you will need on your vacation?!

Because I do this sev. times a month for a German gentleman I met on a cruise last fall who loves to better his English, I offer this in hopes you will feel the same. We like you here - you are among friends ~ and we can understand you WAY better than we sometimes can understand Blimey's across-the-pond English, which I just crack up over because I can get the gist of what she is saying, but I am usually rolling on the floor:) It's kinda hard to keep up with her but it's sure fun trying! I always get this awful visual when she refers to her co-workers as the 'gannets.'

sf: Thanks for the new MGG-sock info; will try it when I get back in from walking dogs. Snoop out some good stuff again today, will you?! Do we want to join Dayne in taking bets on the Hotch absence poss? NOT!

CMFan11: Yes, you must try a recipe or two: you will So-O-O impress your lady friend. Watch out, tho', she may think she wants to move in with you!

Velandra: Hope you at least have time to come here for a quick update and a few laughs, GF. Know that we are thinking of you and sending positive energy your way for your hubbie. Maybe he can recup to CM reruns and will become a fan, too? Hey, ya never know...:)

Glad to still be on this thread...I must hustle to get those recipes on here before we get bumped: get your paper and pens ready, folks, I'll be sending them no later than tomorrow!

Have a great day, everyone!

OMG, where does the Gube find these socks? These take the cake, I think! What a trademark-and what a total 'goob' he is. Still plenty cute, tho...:) love you, sweetness.

sf: could not use second link; also appearing after the 46d1 there is a mark but I cannot tell what it is. If it's one and the same pic, no prob.

Maybe sometimes these addresses run right off the page on this blog? It doesn't seem to happen with words/sentences but maybe addresses are dif.

Anyway, thanks. Got a tiny CM fix to make my day:)

GF bringing my pumpkin scone recipe tonite. Found a can of pumpkin in my pantry...may have to crank out a batch in my Williams-Sonoma scone pan in case Blimey decides to surprise me and drop in...I wish!

How bad would it be if she and I were blogging side by side?? You guys would be peeing your pants or running for your life, begging Jill for a new thread, I'm not sure which! Hah! It might be safer to keep us in the kitchen...:)

Sf: I agree w/ you about Strauss/Hotch. and as Blimey said her super bitch persona is probably just a mask. I think underneath it all she is probably a bit insecure which in her line of work could be perceived as a weakness, especially in a "mans" world.
Love MGGs socks, I always do. Heck he could paint socks on his feet and I would love it.
Thank you everyone for your kind words and support, it means alot :) I'm just trying to stay positive and believe it will all work out.
Gubegirl: can't wait for the scones recipe and would love the one for pumpkin soup. I've already got hubby watching CM, I watch so much it was kind of hard for him not too. He calls MGG my second husband (dont worry I'll share)

Any new scoop going?? About time they drip fed us another teaser!

Nothing good on A&E tonight so am on Discovery.

Went into the back of beyond today to a little "town" called Rachel where I had an Alien Burger at the Little A'Le'Inn and then came back via as close to Area 51 as I could get - AND got watched by the Cammo Dudes! Who are they? Cops? Feds? The Men in Black? Then went to Mount Charleston - absolutely beautiful.

Boulder City, Hoover Dam, Lake Mead & Valley of Fire for me tomorrow.

I've reverted to my Learner Driver in South London training from back in the day while in Vegas itself, although Summerlin (where I'm staying) seems quite civilised in its driving etiquette.

I love having roads all to myself and not seeing another vehicle for miles - even in the far north of Scotland we don't get that very often.

I keep going to the passenger door to get in the car and try to grab the seatbelt with my right hand, but other than that I'm doing OK. Am definitely not looking forward to driving in LA next month - anything more than four lanes makes me want to cry!

@ Gubegirl:

There's a clothes shop called NEXT in the UK which does the maddest men's socks ever. I prefer men's socks and get mine from there - they make MGG's look boring. Accessorize women's socks are OK - I got some "American Dream" ones and another pair with mushrooms all over them. The Gube can eat my shorts - or should that be socks?!

We have the unlicenced, uninsured illegals AND legals a-plenty in the UK. In some places it's reckoned to be over 20%. I pay an extra £60 per year to protect my 70% no-claims discount, in case I get hit by one of these scumbags!

@ CMFAN11:

The IRA are in Northern Ireland, although in the past they have crossed the mini Pond (puddle?) and bombed England. For example, Manchester city centre got "done" in 1996. They seem more bothered with their pathetic religious squabbles (who cares - we're all the same whatever we do or don't believe) than anything else, to my knowledge.

Need to check my route for tomorrow, so will say goodnight y'alls...

OK, peeps, here is the infamous Pumpkin Scone recipe:

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Combine 1/2cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup butter in bowl and beat until creamy. Add 1 cup of canned pumpkin, 1/4 cup milk and 1 egg yolk. Beat until smooth. Stir in 2 1/2 cups flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon EACH ginger and cloves. Mix well. Stir in 1/2 currants or dried cranberries, if desired. Drop rounded1/4 cupfuls evenly onto an ungreased baking sheet or pat into a scone pan. Bake 20 to 25 mins. or until edges are lightly browned. Cool on rack. Glaze with mixture of 1 cup of powdered sugar, 1-2 tsp. of half and half or whole milk and drizzle over warm scones. Take it up another notch and add 2 oz of cream cheese to the icing: YUM!

Made pecan shortbread tonite to be topped with sweetened blackberries and whipped cream. Sev of my fellow jazzercisers will be over for coffee in the AM and one just had a b'day Sunday. We will have dessert for b'fast and not feel too guilty as we will have just danced our tushes off! I'll let you know how this recipe goes over and share if you are interested.

Velandra: I will write out the soup recipe tomorrow - too tired to do it tonite! ALso watching Uncanny Valley for at least the 5th time myself tonite! But Reid just looks so damn good...sigh,...

Thanks for the MGG vid, Jill, what a cutie our boy is, isn't he?

I agree though no matter what we do or don't believe as a people although people will never agree with some things violence is NOT the way to do it no matter the situation.

These people can act crazy because they know they are loved. They are being themselves. They can be themselves and know that we will still love them, much as we talk and act goofy here and know that we are accepted. We can be ourselves because we have become friendsand have come to care about each other.

Here you go, oh-master-chefs-in-the-making:)1st, the oh-so-yummy Pumpkin Dump Cake:

1-16 oz. can solid pumpkin (NOT mix)
1-13 oz. can Carnation/evaporated milk
3 eggs, slightly beaten
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. ginger
1 cup sugar
Mix all of above and pour into an UNGREASED 9 X11 pan.
1 yellow cake mix
1 cup chopped pecans
Dump and spread both of these on top.
Melt one stick (1/2 cup) butter or margarine and drizzle over all.

Bake @ 350 degrees for 50 minutes.

I like to serve with whipped cream but it's rich enuf to go it alone!

Velandra: Here is the Curried Pumpkin Soup for your hubby:

1 med. onion, chopped
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 Tbsp. dk. brown sugar
1 tsp. curry powder
1 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 tsp. ground cardamom
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
1 can (16 oz.can solid pumpkin (NOT mix)
1 can (14 1/2 oz.) fat-free chicken stock
1 can (12 oz.) Carnation/evaporated milk

Saute onion in 1 Tbsp butter in heavy pot or soup kettle, covered, over medium-low heat for about 10 mins or until translucent. Stir occas. and add a little water, if nec., to prevent scorching. Add applesauce, brown sugar, curry, cumin, ginger, cardamom, salt and pepper and cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, for 5 minutes. Add pumpkin and chicken stock and bring to boil. Reduce heat to low and cook, covered, for 20 mins. Remove from heat, cool for 5 mins. and stir in the milk.
Pour the mixture into a blender or food processor, in two separate batches, and puree. Serve as is, or pour thru a strainer for smoother texture. (I did not need to strain.)
Only 100 calories per one cup serving. Offered a dollop of sour cream to float on top, most chose not to.

I am now in a kitchen surrounded by piles of recipe, some not having been seen in years. Very excited to have located the Tomato Basil Tart which is to die for but abit of a challenge to make. Very worth it being colorful, flavorful and baked in oil pastry, melts in your mouth. LMK if anyone is interested. It's tomato season and homegrown are so perfect.

Love the latest batch of piccies of our guys. Good to see them all back to work and can hardly wait til Sept. Hope that KV shakes the red wig soon: so NOT Garcia! I like her WAY better as a blonde and the bright red looks so UN-natural. JMHO:) Does it appear the PB is going bang-less? and Hotch still looking almost as thin as MGG. Morgan looking yum as usual.

Am plum tuckered out from spending so many hours in the kitchen ( the lime cilantro chkn tacos were damn good! and used a Costco rotis. chicken, too!)

G'nite y'all.

Greetings!

I've been doing some thinking (yeah, it hurt!) after watching The Angel Maker on A&E** a few nights ago. It was about Reid's driving skills, or lack of them as the implication from his team mates seems to be.

** Not seen any more CM on A&E since, although I do like that "The First 48" (I think?) show!

There's two theories:
1). He's really slow and dithers all the time, which can be just as dangerous as being...
2). A psycho behind the wheel.

Until this week, I'd have had Reid down as the former, as he often looks to be a nervous passenger during car chases. But, having driven round his hometown of Vegas for a few days (including the Strip = vehicular laxative if ever there were!!!) I'm wondering if he's a bit of a dark horse and subscribes to the "endlessly switching lanes at the last minute without using your indicators whilst driving at least 10% above the speed limit" style of driving. It's like this in the suburbs too!

Your theories/better ideas gratefully accepted!

Idea!

@ Jill... (bonny blues utilised)... pretty please is there any chance of you asking, next time you do a chat with Erica Messer, if sometime this season we'll see Reid behind the wheel - and find out why the others don't rate his driving?!

Fab piccies at the top of the blog, btw. They seem just as great off screen as they do on it. Bless 'em all! ;-))

@ Gubegirl:

Another yummy sounding recipe copied and pasted to email. The gannets will think Xmas has relocated to September! Muchos thankos.

My Dad says "plum tuckered" (i.e. knackered - in the politer sense of the word) - not sure where he heard it because as I understand it it's an American expression, and as we know the Old Man only hablar Limey.

Speaking of Limeys, this town is full of them - they seem to be breeding like sewer rats. I keep my mouth shut and move away as fast as I can... ;-))

Hope you're having fun. Is July the month for Limeys go to Vegas? How weird is that? Who knew??

LOL. Hello and bye bye for everyone else!

Good Friday night everybody.
Translation from Limey to American:
Indicators = Turn Signals.
I just had this conversation with my friend as we went round a roundabout/rotary. After I had given her instructions about using her "indicators" ( I was nervous and sometimes the old ways just come out) and she reminded me that here the word was "signal".
I think I remember an interview with MGG where he said that he and Joe prefer to be driven unlike some of the others who compete to get behind the wheel of those big black SUVs

Eleven said...

Oh Blimey. you're crazy, in the best way possible! Had a good laugh reading your post....

Thanks, Gubegirl, for your gastronomic 'excesses'. Seriously, though, we need to send some over to our unit chief.

I thought just before i went to bed yesterday that when i woke up it would be September, but nope no luck i see.

Blimey, i do think they're that good on screen because they are that good off it.

Be safe, girl, and listen to Teresa :-)

Reid - i pick 'psycho behind the wheel'. i would also put him down to being the chap who shuts his eyes while crossing the road, taking a turn, etc.

see ya soon...we've all gone a little quiet.

Typical - I go out for a couple of hours (Red Rocks Canyon) and return to the last ten minutes of CM on A&E - and now that bloody Glades show is back on. It's not floating my boat!

I did joke I was going to rent (we'd normally say hire) a big black SUV, so I could drive round scaring the crap out of people when they saw the Fedmobile in their rear view mirror (or whatever that's called on this side of the Pond!) but it was megabucks. Instead, I got a Dodge Avenger - sounds badass, but ain't. It's pretty nippy - and needs to be round here!

The speeding I can deal with (I actually reckon the Limeys are worse for that), it's the weaving from lane to lane minus turn signals (damn, I'm good!) which really does my head in. I think it's rubbing off on me, I was getting arsey on the way back because some "out of state" type was doing 43 in a 45!

@ Teresa:

I thought I was doing quite well with the lingo. I've filled up the car with gas, spelt out something with a "zee" not a "zed" and asked for chips. I then got asked what type of chips, so we had a laugh when I replied "crisp chips". I bet they've had some Limeys ask for chips and then whinge when the American version turned up. Idiots.

When in Rome, and all that.

@ Eleven:

I try! **Preens**

TG really does need fattening up, A few of those dump cakes would sort him out. Wonder if he's been on some summer health kick?

It's definitely about time we saw Reid driving. I know he drove to Gideon's cabin but I assume that was up a dirt track and he was driving slowly so as not to damage his car. What about seeing Reid driving when him & Morgan are out together, an urgent call comes in that someone's about to get murdered but there's nowhere for them to stop and change drivers - so Reid has to drive like a man possessed?

We'll be demanding he kicks down all the doors next!

@ Gubegirl:

Am missing my summer BB fix - there's going to be some heavy-duty downloading going on when I get back.

Not sure if July is particularly bad for Limeys in Vegas, but everywhere I go I hear English accents. It's bad enough hearing them in England! And they're all sunburnt (not me - factor 30 for the first time in my life). I'm off to Phoenix on Sunday so hopefully there won't be any there.

I'd put Reid down as the Perpetually Distracted Driver because he's always thinking of something else, with no powers of concentration left over for the actual road.

Spoiler alert! I beat Sf! Lol

So apparently S7 ep 7.04 is called "Painless" and it's about a kid who wasn't accepted in HS and went through his HS being bombed. And is killing for attention.

Hopefully we won't see who it is till the last 5 minutes. Honestly IMO it sounds like we probably will tho more likely than not. Ugh

CMFan11: That's funny because I was thinking yesterday we should rec. to the CM writers that they do an epi about a h.s. shooter. Then they can play "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster the People. You know, such an upbeat, dancy song, while the kid is planning and stalking and the music would totally fool people into not thinking anything bad was going to happen because it is such happy music. That is , unless they've every googled the lyrics and find out what's it's really about.

Isn't that funny that I was just thinking that yesterday? I actually spent a few minutes on it but rejected the idea because it would not actually be a serial killer per se.....oh, well.

who knows...maybe the music moved them as well?! LOL

Am loving The Burned "Hard Lesson to Learn" these days, kinda Joe Bonamasa-style music, very cool bass sound. Sure wish we could be helping them with the music end of things. We'd prob'ly have to fundraise to use estab songs, tho', but there's so much good, new stuff out there, it might not be too costly from the new artists.

Hope you're not getting your fanny fried in Phoenix, Blimey. It's easy, breezy here in San Diego....

Going to celebrate our anniversary in San Juan tonite to have dinner while listening to the Gin Blossoms. I know, I know, I'm dating myself, but hey, you guys already know I'm everybody's mama:)

Gotta go.

Hey everyone! I really enjoyed catching up on the last few days posts. It feels like I've been gone forever.... My thoughts on Reid driving... def. a crazy man behind the wheel. He's so mild mannered w/ everything he just seems the type to LET GO behind the wheel.

Gubegirl: thank you for the recipes. I can't wait to be able to try them out. Happy Anniversary, hope you guys have a great time!

Blimey: I almost fell off the couch laughing picturing you behind the wheel of a fedmobile.... I love it. I also like "the first 48". Glad your having fun, keep us updated.

cmfan11: I can't wait to see "Painless" I always find it interesting to see how shows do high school shooting eps. I was in HS when Columbine happened and it became quite taboo to do eps. about that subject for quite awhile. I'm sure CM will pull it off flawlessly.

Well until....

Suffering serious sensory overload this evening! Had a pink jeep tour to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon today! Helicopter ride over and then down into the canyon, pontoon ride on the river, Skywalk (not scary at all) and then back to Vegas. 5/10 of the tour party were Limeys - told you the place is crawling with 'em. Actually, they were a funny bunch so that was OK.

I then had to walk back through Caesars Palace casino (complete madness!) to the parking garage (multi-storey in Limeyspeak) - where I couldn't find my car so wandered around sweating cobs and breathing in all the carbon monoxide for about 15 minutes (no joke) until I recognised the damn thing. Too many white cars - they supposedly hide the desert dust, hence their popularity.

Keep it coming with the spoilers, folks - I'm still relying on y'alls. According to A&E there's a CM binge tomorrow afternoon - but I'll probably be getting hideously lost in Phoenix while that's on.

I'm definitely agreeing with/liking the "Reid's a psycho behind the wheel" school of thought. I'd love to see him scaring the hell out of Morgan one episode - and somehow Garcia gets hold of the evidence!

@ Velandra:

I'd be like Morgan chasing the Road Warrior. In fact, I might become a Road Warrior, minus the murder spree. Should have rented a muscle car... a big red one!

@ Gubegirl:

Happy anniversary! Have a gud 'un.

Teresa H. said...

I don't know what episode it was but I remember that Reid was driving, on his own I think, and he had this interesting grip of the wheel with his fingers twined around it. I loved it, I love his hands, they're so expressive and those long elegant fingers, oh my! It's always so fun to watch him explain things and see his fingers doing that dance they do so well.
Perhaps he's a dark horse as a driver, just as he is with a gun more skille than anyone believes.
Gubegirl,
Happy anniversary.
Blimey,
The Grand Canyon trip sounds exciting, enjoy Phoenix.
Velandra,
Great to see you popping in for a visit, hope things are going well.
We've now topped 900 comments, I wonder how long it will take us to get to 1000.

I just had a quick look back to last Summer on the blog. Obviously what was on everyone's mind back then was AJ/Paget. That thread, started in June, went to over 1400 comments and the last ones were posted in Mar. of this year and the thread has not been closed off so this one need not be closed either even when others open up.

Hi guys,

Blimey:

Glad you're having a good time. I get what you mean with the zee and zed thing. Being from Canada we use the British pronunciation of the letter.

Gubegirl, I'd also read that MGG doesn't like to drive either. Although I'd love to see Reid driving too and I'd love it if he were the psycho driver and scared the crap out of Morgan. Something along the lines of the elevator scene would be too funny. And, of course, if Reid were psycho driver, he wouldn't actually be doing the driving, only in close up. I'd really love to see him do just about anything as long as he's not always at the police station or waiting for the crime scene techs. I'd like to see him do something, even a little physical, once in a while. I know he's there mainly for his mind and I'm not asking that he kick in doors or beat people up, that's not Reid but why can't he go on raids with the team. He had a bum leg in season five, I get it, but he's good now. Could they please use him for something other than minding the coffee pot in the precinct.

Have a great day everybody.

Can you handle one more recipe?!

Made this for dinner tonite and it is so easy and so good, thought I should share:

Lemon Curd Tart:
Heat oven to 350. Lightly grease
9" springform or pie pan.
Crust: 1/2 of 16 to 18 oz. tube of refrig. sugar cookie dough (any grocery store!) Add 2 tsp grated lemon zest (an option but lent a wonderful flavor.) In lg. bowl, work dough and lemon zest together until well-blended, (if dough becomes too soft, refrig X 10 mins.) Press dough evenly over bottom and 1/2 inch up sides of prepared pan. (I used the other 1/2 of the dough to make a half dozen lg sugar cookies!)

Bake about 20 mins or until golden brown and center springs back when touched lightly. Cool crust completely on rack after removing from pan. (If using pie pan, OK to leave in to keep crust intact.)

Filling: 1/2 bottled lemon curd (I found this at Trader Joe's)
After placing crust on serving platter/plate, spread lemon curd over crust. Top with 3 cups of raspberries. (You may slice and berries to ea slice individ. if not using entire tart in one sitting.)

I went the extra mile and whipped up lite cream to dollop on; Redi-whip will also work.

Very easy, fast and looks like a million bucks! Everyone thought I worked at it all afternoon and it prob'ly took 15-20 minutes!

Re: Reid and driving: I have often wondered about Reid and driving since he usu doesn't. Loved seeing his old vintage car the time he drove to ck on Gideon at his cabin. There was an epi sev yrs back that he was excited to drive but it appeared that the others (Morgan?) was not thrilled with the idea, for whatever reason.

I am not a great driver myself, esp in strange places, so I sympathize with Reid. I would prefer Morgan to drive me, thank you very much!

And I am admiring you, Blimey, for having the courage to drive on the WRONG side of the road to you: you are amazing and I salute you! Hope you are having more fun that we get to hear about.

Thanks for the anniv good wishes. The concert was great, the meal in the concert hall was likened to a Texan Roadhouse (thought of you CMFan11!) and LOVED the Gin Blossoms who played for 1 1/2 hrs. The lead singer handed out tambourines to people in the front row to accompany him and then took cell phones from people on and off thru-out the concert, whenever they would perform one of their hits and sing into their phone! They saved their old hit, "Hey, Jealousy" til the very end and everyone was on their feet, inc. the dancing maniac you know as yours truly. They had 2 opening bands that were very good, albeit unknown to me and this was only $30
- Unbelievable!

Watching the CM rerun with the anthrax and altho' our boy Reid's hair is long and kinda straggly in this one, I liked the Asian lady doctor who handled the case so well and Reid interacted so well with. Also love the concerned look of Morgan as Reid slams the door on him when he is exposed to anthrax in the lab where the vial is smashed on the floor. A-a-h-h, love these re-runs; what would we do without them??

Have a good nite, y'all!

Blimey Limey said...

@ Pat:

Agreed - more Reid is needed, end of! I'm assuming MGG's knee is fully recovered so we can see more of Reid out and about?? Perhaps they should let him kick down a door - even if it's a really flimsy one?! Reid turns badass, drives everywhere, has a girl in every city, turns up at the office reeking of beer... our geeky genius needs to break bad in season 7! Ha!

Btw, the guy on reception was very impressed when I said I'd planned my route to Flagstaff on Tuesday and pronounced it "rowt" rather than "root" - how do the Canadians pronounce that one?

As I see it, when I'm in Germany I try to speak German so while on the US side of the Pond I'll try to use American English if I know the word/pronounciation. Thankfully I don't like tomatoes, unless they're in ketchup! ;-))

@ Teresa:

That's the steering wheel grip I use when I haven't got a clue where I'm going! Perhaps Reid is actually a wimp behind the wheel? Vegas's roads have mentally scarred him for life??

@ Gubegirl:

Recipe sounds good - I have a nice lemon cream pie recipe, but it's currently ~5000 miles away!

Am liking Phoenix, especially the huge cacti all over the place! I bought some bottled margaritas at Walmart (when in Arizona...). Obviously won't as good as home made - care to share your recipe?! I intend to buy a bottle of Patron duty free at the airport before flying back to the dirty little island.

The driving isn't the problem, I'm going to end up getting run over while trying to cross the road! I always look right before looking left - it's a problem for me in (Continental) Europe too. You let your guard down when not driving as there's the perception you're safer on foot.

***************

Hope y'all's having a good Sunday? I made it all the way from Rainy Vegas to Sunny Phoenix (107f = 42c = luvly jubbly!) and only took a wrong turn once off the freeway near the hotel. I keep doing this - I think it's the other side of the road thing combined with being ambidextrous and unable to tell my left from my right without looking at my hands. Yeah, I know, freak.

Uber-nice hotel, but no A&E or ION so I'm watching Law & Order SVU instead.

Actually, I wonder if y'alls can offer me a spot of advice?

Nosebleeds!

Air conditioned buildings + air conditioned car + desert low humidity = really dry nose + tiny bleeds are gradually getting bigger. I feel like a nasal seismologist at the moment, permanently carrying tissues around with me in case the "Big One" erupts. My nose is now the rhinological equivalent of the San Andreas, after a week of AC! I've actually switched off the AC in the hotel room for the night.

I used to get nosebleeds as a kid, but obviously drying by AC isn't an issue back in Limeyland (I have AC in the Limeymobile, but it doesn't get used often). So, any tips for reducing the nosebleeds but not roasting in triple figures?! Thanks in advance!

gubegirl said...

It's LEFT, RIGHT and LEFT again! Got it?

Get yourself to a CVS or other drugstore or even Target and get a tube of Aquaphor and a small pack of q-tips (cotton swabs in your lingo?) Apply the ointment to the q-tip and swab each nostril at least twice a day. Works like a charm! Way better than plain old Vaseline (petroleum jelly?)

We use it when we go home to Tucson or I scare the locals looking like a victim from CM (I get some pretty bad nosebleeds if I'm not careful; I take Exedrin for headaches - yeah, it's not just Reid that gets horrific ones -and taking aspirin makes you bleed abit more than you might otherwise!)

I shall post the margarita recipe later - must do dogs and go jazzercise now.

Enuf! I didn't get to see Reid get undressed for his spraydown in the anthrax epi last nite (Morgan chose not to, 'member? Cute scene! but I loved seeing JJ fret about Will and Henry being in the park with the unsub on the loose, hearing PG talk about her "babies" and concern about them in the field and all the other special moments in that epi: really good to see this again. They're our family-they're each other's families: Love them!

Have a good day everyone!

gubegirl said...

Blimey: While editing, I accidentally deleted your name: Those first few lines of my last post are for you!

Sorry for any other typos; I am TTF again, as usu!

Teresa H. said...

Blimey,
You might want to try a saline spray. You can buy them at Walgreens or whatever "drugstore" is out there. They can help keep the sinuses moist.
Also I've taken your advice and have saved this thread to my favourites, makes things much easier. Of course I need to check in with the top of the blog as well so I don't miss anything.
I mostly pronounce words as they're spoken here. And of course according to my family in Ireland I have an American accent but people here still hear the Irish. I do make an exception with tomatoes and hold on to the Eng./Irish/Canadian way of saying it. My Canadian friend pronounces it the old way too. Around here there are also still some old Yankees who do the same, but they're a dying breed.
Have been in CM withdrawal for a few days now. Have not seen any since Wed., I think. And it seems that tonight ION is starting again with S5 rather than going back to the beginning.
Perhaps we could see Reid taking driving lessons as one of the options of required continuing ed. Making some driving instructor pull his hair out as they go round some obstacle course.

Pat said...

Blimey,

We say 'root' up here too. The pronunciation ‘rowt’ would be like a landslide victory. Many of the American pronunciations have caught on up here, I think because we have such exposure to American television.

I sometimes have trouble when writing with spell check that doesn't like me spelling honor as honour, but I learned the Queen's English.

Maybe we should rethink Reid and driving. I was watching the Profilers in Peril marathon last night on A&E and first it’s Elle and Reid in Fisher King, although he escaped with just a burning butt, then it’s Hotch and Reid in Nameless/Faceless, then it’s Emily and Reid in Minimal Loss and then Reid in Amplification. I think maybe he should stay off the roads. He’s a magnet for trouble. But such an adorable one.

Blimey Limey said...

I'd have enjoyed that profilers in peril CM binge - I saw it advertised on A&E, but this hotel annoyingly doesn't have that channel. I'd have probably caught the last one. One being better than none!

Thanks to y'alls for the nosebleed suggestions. Had a couple more today (only the left nostril seems to be affected, that's the one which gushes when I have my bi-annual cold) and keeping the AC on low ain't an option in this part of AZ!!! I've written them down and will make the relevant purchases in Flagstaff tomorrow. Higher altitide = Lower temperatures = Less AC = Happy snout??

I've decided Phoenix is my heat limit. 104f (~40c) in Vegas was fine, 107f (~42c) here is borderline unpleasant if any prolonged exertion more than walking on the flat is required. The thought of adding humidity like the East currently has makes the mind boggle. Hope you folks are doing OK across there!

@ Gubegirl:

Not bad - we'll make a Limey out of you yet! We call them cotton buds, but I knew the term q-tips from my US TV/book addiction!

Went to Biosphere 2 this morning, not far from Tuscon. Saw thousands of massive cacti AND a pair of roadrunners! Now all I need to see is a tumbleweed blow across the road. I bought some cactus marmalade too. Hope they've taken the spikes out! ;-))

@ Teresa:

Nobody in the UK can work out where I'm from, as I've lived in the NW, then the SE and then back to the NW. The northerners think I'm a Cockney (pur-lease!) and the southerners think I'm a "northern monkey". I pronounce some words the NW way and others the SE way, and mix & match slang terms. Works for me!

@ Pat:

There's a lot more US kids shows on TV than when I was younger. Consequently, there's loads of pre-teen girls (and a few boys!) running around shrieking "Oh my Gawd!" - which sounds ridiculous in a NW English accent! We'll be calling the loo a restroom soon! ;-))

Nighty night, y'alls...

p.s. Bloody Limeys in the hotel this morning. Urgh!

sf81387 said...

"Y'all" is a term that is used predominantly in the southern states of the U.S. It's oonsidered hickish, but also a normal part of a southerner's vocabulary. I can't imagine a lot of people use the word habitually in the part of the U.S. you are visiting. If you make it to Oklahoma or Texas though you'll fit right in. Also, the word is already plural as it is a contraction for "you all" which is meant to include everyone. No "s" is needed.

I recommend the "Ayr" saline nasal spray as well. It moistens those sinus passages right up.

CMFAN11 said...

Sf, you'd be correct. Us southerners love our catchphrasess and also let me humor you w/ some more southern phrases for your enjoyment.

For example,

"Crooked as a dog's hind leg"

"Living high off the hog"

"Over yonder" although my grandparents and friends grandparents only use that one. Lol

If y'all wanna find anymore catchphrases from southereners I would suggest watching "Thelma & Louise", and because it's awesome. "JFK" with Kevin Costner. My mom loves "Divine secrets of the ya-ya sisterhood" that's REALLY southern.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Lol

But back on the subject of CM, MGG doesn't like driving? That's crazy.

Lastly sf that last post concerning the term "y'all" rocks. Thanks for the analysis.

sf81387 said...

CMFAN11,

My personal favorite is "fixin", as in getting ready to do something. For example:

"We're fixin to go to the store" or

"John is fixin to go to the doctor."

Blimey Limey said...

@ sf81387:

The y'all thing took off when we were trying to "talk Texan" to make CMFAN11 feel at home! Not heard anyone say it in NV or AZ - well, not that I've noticed anyway. We've also cottoned on to saying it in the UK, usually in an appalling attempt at a southern US accent.

**Waves white flag** ;-))

Have added Ayr (small town in Scotland?!) to the list - cheers for that. My poor arid nose is going to think Xmas came early!

@ CMFAN11:

We say "as crooked as a donkey's hind leg" and older people often refer to "over yonder".

Something I remember from years ago when we lived in the SE. There was a DIY (home improvements?) store called Texas Homecare which was massive, and I mean massive. I'd always get lost in there. They sadly didn't sell 3.5 lb cinnamon rolls though!

Am off to Flagstaff now - must dig out my winter coat! ;-))

Laters y'all...

CMFAN11 said...

@ Sf, I say "Fixin" ALL the time. I didn't kno only southerners said up until recently lol

gubegirl said...

Hell-fire and damnation, CMFan11boy, I come from Michigan but I swear my elderlies must have spent time in Texas (unless they were in the military, and were deployed, uh, prob'ly... NOT.)

Just a few of their sayings:

Things that were out of whack were "screw-jayed" or "catty-whompas"... if someone was ticked-off, they were "fit-to-be-tied" and might even have either a "hissy fit" or a "conniption" ...instead of cussing, they would say "Shoot"...
when they were set on doing something despite difficulty, it would be "come hell or high water"...and we ate "supper" at 5 or 6 PM, not dinner.

When I worked in an office with a girl from Texas, we had two Linda's so she became known as Linda Lou. She then took to nick- naming the rest of us and I was "Vicki-Bob." We would launch into our southern drawls whenever the mood stuck us (most of the time!) and would carry on with the "Hot-damn"s and "how the h--- are ya?" (she would say something like, "Hairyu?" and we had a blast being southern belles during work hours. Sometimes even later, during happy hour when we would kick off our high heels and we'd be ya-hooing until someone would complain, "enuf already!"

And we'd say "surenuff..."

But I can still talk Canadian, since I been married to one for so damn many years:)...

Later, y'all.

Pat said...

@gubegirl

Glad to hear you can speak Canadian too, "eh".

Eight more Wednesdays until CM.

Have a good one guys.

CMFAN11 said...

Wow gubegirl. I say ALL those things except " he'll fire and damnation". But since I'm southern baptist "NO relation at all to westboro baptist church" just FYI so no one attacks me on here lol. Anyways since I'm southern baptist and we're pretty much hell-fire and brimstone that kinda negates not saying hell-fire and damnation lol.

Are u sure ur not a native Texan gubegirl? If you could get our accent down you could pass for one for sure.

Y'all wish me luck I'm about 2 start taking Spanish and hopefully my foundation will still be there after not taking Spanish since I was a HS freshman.

My goal is 2 be fluent in 6 languages someday. I would like 2 have level 5 profiency in Arabic, Russian, Mandarin Chinese, French, Italian, and German. God willing.

Ugh I'm nervous.

And I'm gonna do it "come hell or high water" lol

CMFAN11 said...

O I also don't use "catty-whompass" or "screw-jayed"

People I kno. My former ag teacher at least used the term "bass-ackwards". It's the nice way of saying "ass-backwards" lol. Feel free 2 use it when talking about our current economic crisis. Lol

Guys, there's a new thread opened at the top of the blog. Found out because I was on Twitter.
WE can come back down here for some TLC if we need it from our fellow TZ's.

Criminal Minds Fan said...

Please use the new thread I opened. Thanks

As I go back and scan my prev post, realize in that first paragraph I meant to say that none of my elderlies ever left Michigan UNLESS they were in the military, thus they could not have spent any time in Texas. Typing too fast!

But they did live on farms. My grandfather was a farmer and maybe some originated from that lifestyle?

And CMFan11: if you were to call me and I knew it was you, I'll bet I could totally fake you out with my accent. Sometimes it comes so naturally, I scare myself. Maybe I DID come from TX: in a prev life?
LOL.

Actually, not just having the Texan for a son-in-law comes to mind but the fact that one of my fave shows was Friday Night Lights (just cancelled after 5 wonderful, highly critically acclaimed years but not much of a Nielsen rater on a Friday night. Damn. I mean, hot damn...:) Listening to Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler and all the great actors on that show have kept my Texas twang fresh!

See the new thread? Scrolling too fast (stf) almost made me miss it. Discuss re-runs and S-7. Bunches of anon on there but only Teresa from our group. Feel like walking in there as another anon as "This" thread is home to me - hah! I will jump on there and write what I just read about CM's Nielsen rating for this past week.

CMF11:Good luck with your Spanish. It will come back to you, but you must eat lots of Tex-Mex while you practice:)

Blimey: Geez, you can say you've seen the Biosphere - that's more than I can say! All my trips home and that's not something I've ever done! What did you think?

Also re: "cotton to:"
My crazy Canuck hubby uses that that whenever he doesn't like something, esp. if it's something he should do but is resisting: "I don't cotton to..." whatever. He's only slightly nutters.

Keep coming here, guys, as long as it's open: Jill, we're asking you to keep the lights on!

Love y'all.

I am going to post on there right now, tho' and will stick to the approp discussion:)

Hope that you are well and thanks again for all your indulgence with us: I feel like chanting, "We Are Fam-i-lee..." cause that's how I feel about the people here!

I have to say that I personally find Shemar making 50% of what Gibson makes now, validates the claims of racism by CBS.

I feel it's just outrageous. Yes, the show needs everyone on the cast, but for Gibson to have a towering salary is just disturbing, in my opinion. I personally don't find him THAT much more valuable than the rest of the cast. I don't pay special attention to Hotchner. I pay equal attention to them all.

CMFAN11 said...

Is this one shutting down soon?

Bummer.

I like everybody here, and feel pretty cool and comfortable w/ everyone.

May we keep it please? Thanks for the new thread tho.

But please keep this open if it's not 2 much trouble.

Hello my lovelies! how are you? Have left a comment on the new thread, but do want to keep in touch with the usual suspects....I guess the new one feels a little impersonal after the warmth of this place where we've become friends :-) Also wary of the crazies i must admit.

Welcome back, Eleven! How the heck r u, GF? Long time, no hear!

I was thinking about southern drawls earlier tonite and thinking, JJ's Will is so strong, it's difficult to understaand him sometimes.

Are any Texans like that, CMFan11 or is that a New Orleans/Louisiana thing?

Greetings y'all!

New place = New hotel = No A&E or ION. Grrrr. At least I can watch Shark Week, which is all good stuff. Need a CM fix though!

Is there any good CM scoop going on? Spoilers, gossip, scandal (!!), etc? Here's hoping.

Not so keen on Flagstaff - the surrounding mountains are beautiful and it could be such a pretty little town, but the tourist dollar has spoilt it somewhat. AND it's bloody cold once the sun goes down! Off to the south rim of the Grand Canyon tomorrow and then pottering around locally the day after.

@ Nose advisors ;-))

The nearby Target didn't have Aquaphore, but I bought a tube of Ayr and my nose is one happy sense organ! Don't need noctural AC here, which will also help. Thanks again for the advice.

@ Eleven:

You're back! I know what you mean about posting on the new thread - I will do tomorrow if it isn't full of unsubs in the making! ;-))

@ Gubegirl-Bob:

We use "hissy fit" too. The one southern expression I'm definitely familiar with is to break bad (i.e. to stray from the correct path) - which I fully intend to do in Albuquerque on Friday & Saturday! Bring on the Breaking Bad pilgrimage! You seen season 2 yet?

The Biosphere was really interesting - $20 entry and you get a guided tour lasting over an hour. Good value!

I also think it would be nice to leave this thread open for random chat as well as CM chat. Jill doesn't need to worry about us misbehaving on here, we always play nicely! ;-))

@ Velandra:

Hope your hubby & you are doing well. Keep us updated when you get the chance.

Nighty night, folks!

Thanks, it's good to be back (hugs)! Nothing's wrong - you know when you want to say something but it just doesn't feel right? Have been reading your comments, though. They always make me smile, you nice-crazies (especially after the depressing stuff in the papers)! Also a bit down after 'everything is illuminated'; damn good books.

What's occurring, Blimey? I'm surprised the US is still on the map with you and your bonny blues and your crisps on the loose ;0). And do you not have CM on your laptop, woman? (Shocked at masochistic oversight.) Maybe you're missing the familiar 'male flesh in spandex'? (see, i remember - although that was hard to forget so ghastly was the image!)

Gubegirl - how be the tails? Have they attained some sort of domestic peace if not familial bliss?

Velandra - we are thinking of you. Take care...

Well my hubby had his surgery yesterday it lasted almost 9 hours but the docs said it went well. His prognosis is not horrible nor is it good. Apparently the tumors where more extensive than originally thought. I'm hoping for the best though. I really appreciate everyones kind words and positive energy. If it is ok w/ Jill I will keep everyone updated here. I guess I'll hop on the new thread and check it out since my hubby is sleeping right now. I do like it here though it feels like family.

Jill: would it be ok to give updates here?

Velandra - keep the faith and the positivity. Thank you for letting us know - touched that you want to come in here and share. If it helps just a teeny bit, please come over whenever you're able and us nutters can talk about anything at all, or nothing at all :-)

Big hug to you,
Eleven

Velandra: TY for the update. Sorry things don't look as good as you had hoped for. Pls push the Doc for answers - don't be shy - and use every wholistic method avail to you that does not conflict with his medical treatment: green diet, etc. Think positive, distract yourselves, live in the moment and surround yourself with happy, positive and supportive people. Do not waste time with anyone who is not.

Take whatever help is offered to you and you will quickly learn who your friends are; I hope that you have many, but more importantly, let them be quality.

We will be thinking postive thoughts and keeping your family in our prayers. Just come here when needed and we promise to bolster you.

Eleven: Stella ate my husb. shoe last nite while a GF and I were winin' and scrappin'...I don't know who's in more trouble...:) Bella is tired of living in the bedroom and is whining alot. When she does get out, she'll prob'ly tear Stella's beautiful black and white face up...

Dukie is sweet is ever and trying to stay out of his new big sister's way: she moves like lightening and just bowls eveything and everyone in her way right down sometimes when it's time to go out, walk, etc.

Blimey: Glad you nostriches are better. (That would be a'la JOHN LENNON, TY very much!) Continue to be adventurous and have FUN! That's what CYNDY said and don't you forget it...LOL

Thanks, Jill. Love you too!

Hey, Eleven,
Good to see you back and on the other thread. I'm thinking that if TG continues to slim down there wont be much of either him or Hotch to go around. Hope we can continue to share.
Velandra,
You're in my thoughts as always. Glad you can take the time to check in with us here.

Hey Gubegirl and Teresa! Tails and TG, what's not to like - and yes to your advice/support, Gubegirl, to Velandra. We're here!

Umm, i'm a tad ambivalent 'bout tg's weight (right, it's important to know what i think - ha!). He looks more muscle-y but he seems to have lost a little too much from his ickle face. But whatever, i love him to bits (wait - we could be the reason he's that thin). back again later. i see that the 'ship' has sailed again on the other thread. I have no comments on that either way if the writers promise to be adult about it. Don't want to sound patronising, though, like i know better than the writers (but unfortunately, the internet makes too many of us feel that we are writers because we erm write).

Yes especially East Texas, more than anywhere else in the state.

So have all y'all noticed that all the convis on the other thread about CM are ones we've previously had a few months or weeks ago? Lol they're so behind.

But truth be told I feel like a newbie even going on that thread so it kinda goes both ways. Lol

Velandra said...

To all my fellow TZs thank you. I'm just trying to stay positive :)

Cmfan11: I know what you mean I feel like a newbie on the new thread also. Most are anon and half the names I don't recognize. By the way 'fixin' is my fav southern term.

On a lighter note w/o a trace was just on and Anton (insert last name) from sex, birth, death (my second fav ep) was on it. In everything I've seem him in he plays the same creepy kid role.

Jill thank you for keeping this thread open. O have a new admiration for you after seeing things first hand. To be going through what you are and still run this blog and give us all these great auctions, tidbits and chats..... Thank you you rock

@ CMFAN11:

When I checked in at this hotel, the print-out said my little hometown in NW England is in the state of... TX! Made me larrrrf.

@ Eleven:

No CM on the netbook - it's a "slow processor" (like its owner?) and can just about cope with t'internet. Catching the occasional episode on hotel TV when A&E is available is as good as it gets for me.

The bonny blues spend most of their time behind sunglasses at the moment! Need more melanin in the irides, methinks. I'm actually not a big fan of crisps/chips - it's the sweet stuff I go for.

Am definitely not missing the mingers (male) at the gym in their tight shorts. Bleugh! They should carry a health warning.

Yeah, the "shipping" thing on the new thread makes me reluctant to post until it calms down on there. One of the things I like about this thread is that we can discuss things in a civilised manner. I've suggested things, another opinion has been politely offered and in some cases I've agreed with that more. All very pleasant.

I've had a thought (ouch!) about TG's new skinny look. He grew a geologist's beard for episode 1 - perhaps he's shed a few lbs for a storyline on the show, if he's not been on a health kick? Tom Hanks lost a shedload of weight for his role in Cast Away? And Renee Zellweger did the opposite for her role in Bridget Jones' Diary (and looked one helluva lot better for it).

Just a thought and I'm probably totally wrong!

@ Velandra:

Keeping everything crossed that your hubby makes a "speedy" (not the right word, but you know what I mean) recovery. I echo Gubegirl's post - can't say it better.

@ Gubegirl:

Snout pretty much back to normal - it's cool (feels cold post-Phoenix!) enough to leave the AC off in the hotel room, although I do need it on low during the day in the car.

Mum emailed some photos of The Cat to me - looks like he's being spoilt rotten. Hope he's annoying Dad!!! ;-))

As well as being a total tourist trap, the South Rim was strangely underwhelming. I suppose after catching my first glimse of the Grand Canyon at the West Rim from a helicopter it wasn't going to be *as* good. I knew what was coming! After three hours of avoiding the hoards - and I got there before 9.30am - I'd had enough so headed back via Wupatki (interesting), the Coconino National Forest (stunning) & Sunset Crater Volcano (interesting).

Have found a source of cinnamon rolls and will obtain one tomorrow. They're supposed to be big, but whether they're on a Texan scale remains to be seen!

Totally off-topic warning and random thoughts alert: I was reading a book review by Rebecca Barry in the NYT where she says that the book "captured the malaise of the virtual age, showing how our connections to a false idea of a person, or a virtual person, come at the expense of the real people around us." And it intrigued me - it made me think of my own obsessions (seriously, who wakes up in the morning to check twitter? Meee!), likes and dislikes. So I thought about our (my) reactions to celebs - if they do something nice they are saints, they make a mistake they're evil. You're only as good as your most recent act (or blog, comment, tweet, pic, retweet, reply, reblog). Everything is magnified - I realise the pressure's certainly on them (although it generates/leverages publicity), but it's also on us. Because when our expectations are high and they don't live up to them, it feels like betrayal. It's stupid but then idolising isn't rational 90% of the time. And god forbid if they have a political opinion! And if you think about it for a bit, god forbid if any of us should have a political opinion. The world is nuts. I'm nuts. And I'm bone-weary and wary of debate on the internet - heck I use it as a nice comforting space - I MUST surely be crazy (but we've lucked out here haven't we TZs - most places out there are cold, unimpassioned, word-heavy and meaning-light and the debates - they go on endlessly about my opinion and your opinion and I have a right to mine and you have a right to yours - and yet it's as unfriendly as it can get, sometimes beyond hostile, because you can't really extend your arm and give the person a thwack like you so want to. In other words you're not held accountable for anything behind your mask of anonymity (you can of course be kicked out by the mods but perhaps the damage has already been done).

So what else is up/down/middling, peeps?

Blimey - shame about your notebook. And i have left another comment on that other thread...(nothing that we haven't discussed here!) And the "tg weight loss conundrum" - hmmmm, beard, muscles, weight loss - i wonder, i truly wonder. Or maybe the pizza guy (or dog - ref to his tumblr) got the half anchovy half pepperoni thing wrong.

Our SF has posted the links to tg's tmblr pics - they are yummy - one of AJ and KV (caught doing nothing good kinda expression), one of TG and JM (just engaged, married or about to get all lovey-dovey - thus the caption), and one of JM standing there all cool and happening like (comment 'the coolest').

gubegirl said...

G' Mornin, all!

Everytime I see those early pics of TG on the set, around the b'day time, etc., I feel concerned about his weight loss.

I am not one the shippers (or I would be thrashing madly about on the other thread) but I truly am concerned, Eleven, that there will not be enuf of him for both you and Teresa.

'Course, that's been an issue for me, Velandra and Pat from the get-go, but we have found a way to work it out. I think it has something to do with the Gube having a tad more hair and usu wears more clothes...:)

Maybe TG will start to become chilled when our heatwave breaks here and will put on more clothes otherwise, you will soon be caressing his bones...he may also have started to wear white more often as it is supposed to make you look larger rather than smaller as black does, which is more usual choice for myself...:)

Blimey: You are seeing more of AZ than I have and I lived there for 11 years! I've spent more time in B.C. when I come to think of it...
sorry about your netbook, I have one and have the same prob. I'm such a loon I came home from yoga last nite and waited til 10 to turn on ion for a re-run, fogetting there would be one on CBS at 9 (DUH!), this after just posting the Nielsen ratings for it the day before. I'm losing it in the heat!
A/C was down X 2 days but they replaced the compressor yesterday so maybe I can move fast enuf to get out of my own way...and Stella's...

OK, time to walk dogs and stop talking nonsense here but oh, my, it is so nice to be able to...among friends.

Nice write, Eleven. I refuse to start to Tweet and Facebook because I am already slightly OCD and just do not need any more compulsions...I'd never get a thing done!

Eleven said...

Well, TG's wearing several layers at the party it seems. And lavender-going-on-purple...i'm not sure i'll survive if you bring up 'caressing' once more, Gubegirl (has miniscule heart attack).

Haven't yet posted my first tweet (!). i just check out tg's because they're, well, tg-like and hilarious. And i don't have facebook.

SF's spoilers give me food for thought (not good thoughts, though). I hope they don't overdo it with the 'i'm going to hurt for ever because you lied to us' (SF says it so much better!)

And Blimey, funny girl that she is, while skimming through the posts on the other thread like Reid batman'ing through a book, didn't realise that she was actually responding to SF's and my posts. Funny that, in a nice (cosmic?) way :-)

Don't ask me how i was re-watching Hanley Waters, but i was. That was a powerful episode!

LOL, Teresa, Gubegirl wants to save tg from you and me. What about Blimey's mum (or am i confusing things epically?). Wish we really were that important in his um fandom ;0)

Your hubs needs a new pair of shoes, eh, Gubegirl? A pair of Hush Puppies might be appropriate.

Teresa H. said...

Eleven,
Read your comment, very well put.
We're fascinated by these people we don't know and who in turn don't know that we as individuals even exist. We hang on their every word and if they're wise they will choose carefully what they say in public. They want/need fans to be interested in them, where would they be without us? Yet they have to be careful to keep us at a safe distance.
When does fandom/interest/fascination become obsession?
BTW, in that vein, I believe you and I can be genlte with the new, slimmed down, looking like he did at 30, TG.

Eleven said...

Very gentle, Teresa, caressing like. Pwomise, cwoss my heart (evil grin, obsessive maniacal laughter). Sorry to fangirl but he really isn't helping any lookin' all kinds of hotch.

There's a very thin line b/w liking and obsessing. Our heads stop working, expectations sky-rocket and we iconise them or make them monsters - both ways of ousting them from human boundaries. Of course they need us, but somewhere down the line we start needing them, too. But they remain on a stage, the fourth wall broken down (much to their disadvantage), while we get closer to losing touch with reality. It's a bit frightening to be honest. As long as we are aware of ourselves, though, there's still hope and it can be a satisfactory reciprocal symbiosis.

Teresa H. said...

So we're getting one of our wishes.
OK for now I'm going to be positive about it. It's just that contradiction: I hope this is really a story the writers want to tell and not just reaching for material.
Listen to me. You would think I knew something about writing for a TV series. It must be a real challenge and I really wish them all the best as they try to entertain this very committed, very opinionated fan base and the others who happily watch and enjoy the show over the course of a whole year.

Velandra said...

Eleven: so very well put. You always say what I'm sure a lot of us are thinking and you put it in such a eloquent way. It's so very true about the thin line. My hubby was so happy when TG finally signed b/c he wasn't sure I could emotionally accept no more Hotch. I think he was stunned the first time he witnessed me crying b/c RN was there when it should have been our girls. To him it was just a show but to me it is much more, that I think was the first time he realized that. CM has gotten me through alot. When it was on became the time I could escape reality and forget my problems if only for a few hours. The team became like a extended family. Even now every night that I leave the hospital and go back to the Hope Lodge (run by the ACS) I feel lost w/o my husband or son there so I turn on CM and lose myself for a little bit. It's the only time I have any release from my fear and worry. I guess it's become a bit more than just a show to me. It's become my little bit of paradise in all this my escape if only for a moment. This is my husbands second surgery and his last Dr. told us after chemotherapy he would be fine and we had nothing to worry about. So when we found it had metastasized I was kind of thrown. Then it was worse than they thought ( we got a new dr.) we're hours from home and I know no one. If it wasn't for CM all I would do every night is worry. I guess what I'm saying is Eleven is right in a way it is a easy line to cross into obsession. But as long as things are kept in perspective I think it doesn't always have to be bad. It can be therapuetic. Sorry if this post makes no sense. I'm working on about 7 hours sleep since wed. And I haven't really had anyone to talk to so I'm sure I'm rambling. Either way i think you guys get the gist. Be back later when I'm a little more coherent. Thanks for indulging me ;)

I'm thinking of you tonight. I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you. My sister in Ireland and my brother in law in Australia are both dealing with cancer at the moment. For now anyway things are under control. Who knows where it will go from here. I hope you are getting the support you need from family and friends. And by the way you are making perfect sense in your post.

Velandra: So sorry that you are having to go thru this. Wish some of us could be there with you to distract you with our mutual CM OCD, watching re-runs right there with you and maybe having some Patrone...maybe even some EC:) (I'm thinking of how Rossi and Morgan waited in Reid's hotel room, eating snacks and watching
Y & R - he thought it was Days of Our Lives! - during the epi that he thought his Dad had something to do with killing Riley Jenkins)
I know that this cannot compare to what you are experiencing, but what I'm trying to say is, the guys were there for Reid, and I know that is meaningful to you, and I wish we could be doing something like that for you right now.

Know that we are with you in spirit and that you can come here to talk to us whenever you need to, as long as Jill leaves this thread open.

Jill, no pressure, but as long as you can, please do leave this open for us. TY

Must go and check on Stella; I wonder whose shoe she is chewing up right now...

Thank you very much my fellow TZs. I just feel like I've got to present a strong front to his family and as none of my family live around here I really have no one to express my fears to. My brother lived down the st. until recently (he moved to Israel to teach english to immagrants). In a way this is the only place I feel comfortable opening up and being honest. So again thank you for listening it really helps. Ok I think I'm getting a bit to mushy... By the way gubegirl I love that ep. I love that their watching Y&R the very soap SM used to be on. I love how when Reids dad says they used to look alike but no longer do he likens it to dogs looking like their owners. How I adore MGG and his mismatched socks (sigh).

Jill thank you again for leaving this thread open.

Gubegirl: no pressure but if you can think of any recipes I'd love to try them. My son loves tasting everything I make. I never did bake until all the CM drama and the introduction of EC. I guess some good came of all that.

gubegirl said...

Velandra, this whole recipe thing and hunting down the scone recipe and having to get it back from a GF has made me decide to organize my recipes. I must have hundreds clipped from newspapers, mags, etc.

Anyway, I am currently fastening them to pages, sliding them in plastic sleeves and placing them in 3 ring binders; colored to indicate what they are: Red for meat-based dinners, green for salads, turquoise for seafood, pink for desserts, etc. Like I said, I am only slightly OCD...

Hey, if it helps me put my hands on them right away when I want them, it will be well worth the time. I guess you have figured out that I like to cook, And bake.

So, GF, I am happy to share. LMK if you are looking for use of a certain ingredient (like you were pumpkin!) or need nice salads, yummy baked goods, super easy ones or whatever.

Talk tomorrow!

@Velandra

You know we wish we could be there to support you. I understand all the more tonight some of what you're feeling since my BFF called me today and told me the doctor thinks her MRI showed cancer and he's 70% sure it's metastatic. They still have to do the biopsy and I'm trying to stay positive about it. Coming here with all the TZs helps.

@Gubegirl

Well it was the second trip of the EC cake to scrabble night. They wanted it again. I offered them the recipe but they seemed happy to just have me make it, and a mess of my kitchen in the process I might add. It was a hit again and you think they would have been easier on me in the games...but alas no.

Thanks so much Jill for keeping the thread open. I do go to the other thread although I haven't posted yet. I should do that in the morning.

Forgive me if I don't make any sense this evening (do I ever?) as very little blood is flowing to my brain.

I bought a mah-huse-sive cinnamon roll today in Sedona - it's that big those 3.5lb Texan efforts look pathetic. This thing is on steroids! I've eaten a quarter over the past few hours and feel like I'll pop. I'm wondering if the cafe owner was from TX way as he sounded different from the accent round here (not that I'm very tuned in to different American accents) and he said "I'll fix you up with..." a few times, with regard to more iced tea, salsa, etc. Huevos rancheros = yum, btw!

@ Eleven:

Good post! I'm actually one of those weirdos who's not that "interested" (can't think of a better word) in celebrities, film stars, pop stars, etc. If asked who my favourite actor/singer/band is I can't answer. While I admire many of them, especially those who are good at what they do AND come across as being nice folks, that's as far as it goes. I agree some people take it too far, but I'm too lazy to be a stalker anyway!

The netbook is for travel only - comes in useful for emails, facebook (I'm a daily user, but only for about ten minutes and I CBA with those games, etc), google maps, trip advisor and - of course - this blog. I have a much better proper laptop 5000 miles away which has a better memory than Reid!

Great pics linked by SF - that's one thing I like about the cast, they're happy to pose for pics and post them for the fans of the show. Bless 'em!

As for responding to yours & SF's posts on the other threads, it proves my point about great minds thinking alike! I've got skim reading down to a fine art, saves time.

Yeah, my Mum has a bit of a thing for Hotch. She claims she likes dark moody guys in suits - well, she did marry one!

@ Gubegirl:

TG needs one of those Sedona cinnamon rolls - if I finish that bad boy (doubt it) I'll definitely regain the weight I've lost in the past couple of weeks. Heat = go off my grub.

Still not keen on Flagstaff - way too commercialised and playing up to the Route 66 thing, although the mountains and forests surrounding the town are amazing. Other mountain towns like Breckenridge and Estes Park manage to cater for tourists, yet still retain their charm.

Off to Albuquerque tomorrow - wonder if I'll break bad?! ;-))

@ Velandra:

My cyber good wishes and hugs are being sent your way. I can't begin to imagine what you're going through, I can only hope things become easier for you soon. We're here for you, any time you need to let off some steam or just "chat". You make perfect sense, btw! ;-))

Nighty night, y'all... x x x

Velandra - you made perfect sense! We do what we can to cope - nobody has the right to judge us if we're not invading their ethical, personal, or socio-political boundaries. If something gives you peace, you should embrace it even if people around you think you're crazy or have lost touch with reality. I cannot pretend to understand what you're going through - all i know is that i wish you and your family the very best. You don't know me and i don't know you - but we forget so often these days that we have a larger connection than either knowledge or proximity - a human connection. So whether you're 50,000 miles away from me doesn't matter :-) Only rememeber to tell the people who judge you to, you know, go away (in your best French). I'm not saying they are judging you or that anyone is, just that never be apologetic for what is necessary to YOU.

Thank you, Jill, for keeping this open - we're having fun there as well, but this little hidey hole of ours is a bit special.

Groovy pics of these insanely good-looking actors, man.

Blimey - i'm jealous of your moderation and perspicacity. I can't obsess about two people at the same time. I can like/adore/appreciate several at once, but obsessing - nope. Gulp - i'm nuts. I'd add "damaged" to your mum's criteria, although i'm married to one who's not (thank you god).

Hi Guys...I spent 30 mins. this AM writing a post for the other thread addressing sev people there and it disappeared into never-never land! I hate that. No time to re-write today.

Pat: You have joined the baking elite; not nec the best thing, 'cause now you get to do all the work and much is expected...not really. Most people truly appreciate it and won't bug you but, instead, give gentle hints about what a great baker you are or how good your cooking always is, etc. Sorry they weren't easier on you duing the game...the turkeys! They OWE you, what's the matter with them??!!

Blimey: Sorry, in my recipe sort I came across the margarita one and I had promised to give it to you days ago! It's easy and yummy. This is for a half a blender-ful, I think, so find a good-lookin' guy or a CM Fanatic to join you..:)

1/2 can (6 oz) frozen limeade: (Minute Maid is better than the store brands)
3 oz. TripleSec
6 oz. Tequila (Cazadores or better)
6 oz. water

Run thru blender with a couple of ice cubes and serve in salted rim glasses over crushed ice. Don't forget to "lime" your rim - I love the lime/salt!

Obviously, if you use the entire can of limeade, you will double everything else and have a full blender. Believe it or not, I have drank leftover margaritas for days after a girls' nite. Refuse to throw out the good stuff! Hope
your trip is going well and that Albuquerque is as nice as I remember it:) Hope you have ion or A & E because usu there is mucho CM on Fri nite-whoo-hoo!

Have a great nite, everyone!

Oh yes! I am one happy bunny! This hotel has ION - CM binge for me tonight.

Latest episode... "The fight" - urgh! Anything reminding me of that spin-off isn't good. At least it's in San Francisco - can't wait to go there and drive into town over the Golden Gate. ;-))

Some good scoop at the top of the blog - looking forward to see the reaction to ex-Mrs Rossi the first turning up. Wonder if we'll ever meet the other two?

@ Gubegirl:

Ta for the recipe - copied to email and sent. I'm planning on buying some Patron duty free at the airport on my way back and triple sec is easily available in the off licence (a.k.a. the offie, a.k.a. the liquor store!) in Limeyland.

(That Welsh bloke's English accent is absolutely diabolical, btw. Scruffy git needs to have a shave too! And it's crap his passport wouldn't matter, he'd have to give up his UK citizenship and become an American citizen to join the Feds)

ABQ is fab! Been to Los Pollos Hermanos (a.k.a. Twisters on Isleta Blvd) for a burrito already. In Breaking Bad it's used as a cover for cooking meth in a hidden lab in the basement. Going to visit a few BB landmarks tomorrow and have something yummy at the Frontier.

9 PM also, but not tonite. Here, tonite, CBC is running Uncanny Valley. I could now stand in for anyone on that one, I have seen it so many X the past month or two!

Tomorrow, Sunday, A&E starts running CM at 5 PM (mini-marathon!) until 10:00 when your fave, The Glades, comes on. Here, they are showing 2 epis from S-1,
2from S-2, 1 from 2007 and 1 from 2009. Hope this helps.

Velandra, hope your hubby is feeling decent and now that it's the wkend, either other fam members can join you or maybe your hubbie gets to go home? Keep us updated when you can. XOXOXOX

CMFan11: I strongly suggest you get that bib off before your GF starts to suspect something, you womanizer, you, and try to hold yourself back. Whatever you do, don't get yourself high on any of those 3.5 pounders or no one will be able to keep you down. And don't go "tying one on" in your excitement, either, or we'll all be fit to be tied! Not to mention that this here Mama might have to call YOUR Mama! Hah!

Don't mind me, I'm feeling weird tonite....

@ CMFAN11:

Ha! The Sedona cinnamon roll was bigger than Texas! I had to bin the last of it as it was drying out. However, I heeded Gubegirl's recommendation and got a smaller version from the Frontier in ABQ - that disappeared in under five minutes and my belly hasn't rumbled in nearly eight hours - and doesn't intend to! Yum!

@ Gubegirl:

Ta - been checking the ION and A&E listings for next week in the hope my next hotel has them both. If not, it'll be Discovery! I wouldn't mind Animal Planet - the trailers for Hillbilly Handfishin' crack me up.

Been on my BB geek tour, mooched round town & then went up into the mountains AND SAW A BEAR!! Luckily it stayed by the side of the road and didn't run across the road like that one in the Rockies decided to do.

Off to Colorado (Cortez is my base) tomorrow, so I dread to think what wildlife will be throwing itself in front of my car.

Blimey, you saw a bear? you'd better be careful, GF, we don't wanna be hearing of your demise on the local news!

I read about a polar bear getting a teenager yesterday on some special adventure excursion ... I think it was some more kid from Europe but I didn't read the entire article...shivered at the thought instead.

Good luck with the TV channels in Cortez!

Everybody else who is reading but not posting, have a good day!

"conflicted" is on one of my fav eps. I might just have to put off going to bed.

Blimey: hope your having a great trip.... it certainly sounds like it!

Gubegirl: do you by chance have a zucchini bread recipe? It's my hubbys fav. How are the furry ones doing?

TZs: my hubby will be coming home tue. or wed. He thanks you for all the well wishes.

@ Velandra:

Glad to hear your hubby's coming home soon. I'll leave the zucchini business to Gubegirl as I'm not a fan of courgette, as it's known on t'other side of the Pond! And what's with calling a swede (short for Swedish turnip) a rutabaga?! Dearie me... ;-))

My hotel has A&E so I caught a couple of episodes earlier - Conflicted is certainly a gud 'un.

@ Gubegirl:

Yeah, it was an English kid on an adventure camp in northern Norway who got killed by the polar bear. Other members of his group were seriously injured and last thing I read on BBC news was that they were going to medically evaculate them to the UK.

There was also something about a hiker (?) being attacked by a bear in Glacier NP in Montana, which is on my "to go to when I do a NW roadtrip" list. Think I'll be staying in the car!!

The most fearsome wildlife we get in the UK is the people!! ;-))

Cortez is a pleasant enough little place. Not as pretty as Durango (which Flagstaff should aspire to!) but the hotels are considerably cheaper and it's closer to my planned trips - so I'm saving $$ at the hotel and $$ at the gas station (damn, I'm good!) as well.

The (nice!) hotel has A&E but no ION. It's got loads of other channels, including AMC - but I've not seen the last two episodes of Breaking Bad so can't really watch tonight's. This is causing me great mental anguish! However, I loved Hillbilly Handfishin' - pure genius.

Am driving the Million Dollar Highway and spending the afternoon in Telluride tomorrow, so now need to plan my route - pronounced rowt?!

Laters, y'all...

Velandra: I have a zucchini bread recipe that contains some whole wheat for the flour requirement and also some wheat germ. As I recall, it is pretty tasty as well as being abit more healthy.

My neighbor brought a yummy CHOCOLATE zucchini loaf to my annual breast cancer fundraising brunch last year and it was very popular. I'm sure she would be happy to give me the recipe if you thought that one sounded good.

LMK and I will post either or both. Hustle, tho', I'm worried we're running out of thread here and we will need Jill to instruct us where to go to do our clandestine TZ business such as this! Hah! Glad your hubbie will be home soon.

Blimey: Glad you will be steering clear of the bears. You will be glad to know I am 5 epi's into S-2 of BB and LOVING it. Esp when I'm doing paperwork, etc., and can watch TV but there are no CM reruns - good second choice! Hard to not want to turn on this season and sneak peeks into Walt's future!

(Hope the poor English bloke/bear vic turns out to be OK.)

Gubegirl: can I get both recipes if possible?
Hope everyones having a good day!

I'm w/ my hubby at the hospital but I was so excited I had to share real quick. And my fellow TZs would be the only ones to understand. Today is our 2 year anniversary and he just gave me my present. Remember in "Cold Comfort" JJ says she and Will had rings made w/ henrys birthstone? Well I had said to my hubby how much I loved the idea and wished we had done that. So he just handed me two ring boxes and said it's been dine but I hope you like it. I opened them and there was a ring in each. One for each of us w/ our sons birthstone and mine looked like a replica of JJs ring. They never showed Wills so his is a white gold band w/ the stone in the middle. I couldn't believe he remembered that I had said that, it was quite awhile ago (S4). I got him a GC to get a new tattoo when he's done w/ chemo ( he's got both his arms sleeved and our sons name on his chest and then some) he's really into tats. Gubegirl I know that's nor your thing but I like them they've grown on me. Anyways must go we are about to eat our Ann. dinner so I can get home in time to put the baby to bed ( we live a hour away barring traffic) so it's chicken broth and apple juice (liquid diet) then home to the little man. Ok now I'm babbling, I'm just so happy ( more that he remembered). Have a great day all and take nothing for granted.

Jill: thank you once again for leaving this thread open. You rock!
Excuse any typos I'm typing quite fast on my iPhone so....
I also get to be 1000!!!!

Velandra: Oh, my, GF, I am so happy for you! What a touching story and I am so glad you felt you could tell us here! You are right - we TZ's totally get it! And
it's OK your hubbie has tats, no prob. Just don't go trying to put any on our boy, because it just would NOT be him:) Plus, I might have to take him off my adoption list....LOL

And your post being #1000 on this thread. How cool is that?

Here is the choc. zucchini loaf because right now SWEET sounds good:

Makes 2-9X5 inch loaf pans:

2 (1 oz) squares of unsw. chocolate
3 eggs
2 C granulated sugar
1 C vegetable or canola oil
3 C grated zucchini
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 C all-purp flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
Crumb topping:
1/2 cup regular oats
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup flour
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 cup butter, sl. softened
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350. Lightly grease the 2 9X5 loaf pans. In a micro-safe bowl, micro chocolate until melted. Stir occas until choc is smooth. In lg. bowl, combine eggs, sugar, oil, grated zucchini, vanilla and chocolate; beat well. Stir in the flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. Pour batter in prepared loaf pans. Bake in preheated oven for 60 -70 mins or until a toothpick inserted into ctr of loaf comes out clean. Topping should be added 15 mins. into the baking time: that way it stays on top rather than sinking down into the batter while bread bakes. (You could also make 5 mini loaves and bake for a total of 40 mins.)

Am in the middle of getting some work done so I'll try to post the healthy zucch recipe tomorrow (we won't take to calling it "courgette" anytime soon - that does not sound like anything that would be edible and ZUCCHINI is good, Blimey!)

Later, y'all. (WTH is everyone? Did we scare them off w/ thoughts of this thread closing down? Doubt it because no one is posting on the other one either...maybe everyone is on vaca...like Blimey. Jazz and yoga classes are really slow so that may be the case. Summer's almost gone...7 wks and 2 days to the first S-7 epi! Whoo-hoo!

TY Jill. Hope you're good, too:)
