CRIMINAL MINDS 100TH EPISODE CHAT WITH ED BERNERO
CRIMINAL MINDS: PAGET BREWSTER INTERVIEW
Criminal Minds: Here is an excerpt and link to a great interview with Paget Brewster, Emily Preniss on Criminal Minds.
-When actors say that they love the TV show they’re on, they really mean that they love it — until a chance at silver screen success comes along.
Talking with Paget Brewster though, it’s obvious that she truly loves working on “Criminal Minds,” CBS’ hit drama about catching serial killers. She plays FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit profiler Emily Prentiss.
“I thank God that I’m a part of it, because I really don’t want anything else,” says Brewster from the show’s Los Angeles set, where she’s sporting a fake black eye, the result of a future episode’s tussle with a spree killer and a car crash.
“I don’t want to do movies. I don’t want to do another show. I just want to be here,” says Brewster, 40.
And why not? Where else could she fuel her passion for learning about serial killers and, like, breaking windows and stuff? - Rest of article:

CRIMINAL MINDS: INTERVIEW WITH ED BERNERO
Criminal Minds: Nice interview with Ed Bernero, Co-Exec. Producer of Criminal Minds.
-'Criminal' showrunner is no stranger to mean city streets:
Before the bright lights of Hollywood beckoned and after a four-year stint in the Air Force, "Criminal Minds" showrunner Ed Bernero was a Chicago police officer, and thus a witness to the types of crime scenes he'd ultimately end up writing about on "Criminal Minds." He handled many homicides, including once guarding a trash bin where a serial killer had left body parts, but it was the little details that got to him.
"There was usually some random thing at a crime scene that bugged me," he recalls. "Like, a shoe in the street at a car accident, or a little pile of things ready for the next day at a homicide victim's house."
Bernero worked the night shift, which provided him with time off during the day. While his wife was at her surgical nursing job and his kids were at school, Bernero started writing to fill the time.
"I tried to write the Great American Novel but it was horrendous," he admits. It was then he got inspiration from an unlikely source: his partner, Tommy Martinez, who also was a Chicago actor. "We were driving around, him singing, which he did constantly, and me bitching about my novel writing," Bernero says. "How's that for an unusual cop scene? Can you imagine the notes I'd get on that?" Martinez apparently got tired of the complaining, and suggested Bernero switch to writing screenplays instead. "He explained there are certain (touchpoints) you have to hit to keep from rambling," Bernero says. - More here: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/film/news/e3ie595ec28836e2d88975c10370d45f31c

'Criminal Minds' 100th Episode Article
Criminal Minds: An interesting article about the 100th episode and history of "Criminal Minds."
-Early on in his tenure as showrunner for the CBS drama "Criminal Minds," Ed Bernero came up with a standard to help him quickly gauge when a story line was right for the show. He realized all of the stories needed to be what he called "Arthurian."
Despite the fact that "Criminal Minds" follows a team of 21st century FBI agents who make up the elite Behavioral Analysis Unit -- the bureau's weapon against serial killers and other deadly predators -- Bernero discovered the ancient legend or King Arthur and his Round Table of knights served as the perfect template. The structure is surprisingly simple: The knights meet, there's a call to adventure, then a journey to the dragon, the slaying of the dragon, and the return home.
"That's what these guys are," Bernero says of the series' regulars, comparing them to knights in shining armor. "They're battling the only real monsters we have left in the world."
Bernero's Arthurian standard seems to have served the show well. Despite tough competition, "Minds" was an immediate ratings performer when it premiered in 2005. For the first six weeks of the 2009-10 season, the show ranked 16th among adults 18-49 and cracked the top 10 in total viewers, which explains why it's easily cruising past the 100-episode mark Tuesday. At first glance, "Minds" might appear to be just another solid procedural in a TV landscape where audiences crave to play along with the crime solving on their screens, but CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler describes the show as "much more character-based."
"Ed was very smart in pointing out you needed to have characters that brought a unique point of view on each crime and each criminal," Tassler says. "If you watch how the characters have arced over the season, certain crimes become personal to them." -

CRIMINAL MINDS HOLIDAY BREAK
Photo: Monty Brinton/CBS ©2009 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved.
Criminal Minds" starts its holiday production break around Dec. 18, and from the way Thomas Gibson makes it sound, it might be just in time. Gibson, who stars as Unit Chief Agent Aaron "Hotch" Hotchner in the CBS drama about an elite team of FBI profilers who analyze the country's most twisted minds, stresses that he loves the series, but says, "It does get kind of depressing."
Thomas Gibson Caught Up in Dark 'Criminal Minds' Including Maj. Nidal Hasan.
"In fact, when we sit around for readings of scripts about the most dark and depraved side of society, we think, 'Wouldn't it be nice to do a comedy?' The thing that keeps us going is the fact the profilers we're portraying are incredibly heroic people -- and it's our responsibility to show the work they're doing in a positive light."
He adds, "I've gotten to know quite a few actual FBI profilers. I asked one, who just retired after 20 years, how he had kept it from getting to him, and he said he felt he had been very lucky to work with some of the most fascinating minds imaginable."
Gibson says his years of work on the show have made him understandably fascinated about the mind of Maj. Nidal Hasan, the alleged gunman responsible for the horrendous Fort Hood massacre Nov. 5. "I wouldn't be so presumptuous as to assume I knew what was going on in his mind, but from the coverage, it seems he didn't expect to survive, and the fact he did means they may be able to find out his motives from him. It's a horribly tragic thing."
The personable actor is looking forward to happy times during his series' holiday break with his wife, their three children … and Ursa, the dog that wandered into the Gibsons' back yard last Christmas Eve and proceeded to make himself part of the family. Thomas relates, "He was our best Christmas present. He's very smart, very sweet, a very good watch dog and we cut out the middle man -- we didn't even have to go to the animal shelter for him."
