CRIMINAL MINDS SPOILER THREAD FOR "OUT OF THE LIGHT"
Criminal Minds spoiler thread for "Out of the Light" starring Joe Mantegna, Thomas Gibson, Shemar Moore, Matthew Gray Gubler, Kirsten Vangsness and Rachel Nichol.
** Beware: There will be spoilers in the comments!
PS It's bizarre, this site I found. It lists date of birth, place of birth, signs, and guff like that, and then his height, like his height is going to make a difference, put him closer to the planets or something!!!
Oh my, how we have digressed into astrology - my dad's a scorp and he is all that - your good eagle scorp Gubegirl. No, ladies, you may not have his number - he looks nothing like TG. My mum and i should thank our lucky stars, moons, whatevs. Before i fall into the abyss of Greek tragedy, i should stop.
Ah, TG is a Cancerian and Hotch is a Scorp. No wonder they are so different and I, for one, react to the 'two' very differently. Now i'm veering off into schizophrenic territory. Ok, bye, friends - this has been fun :-)
I'm really not sure how to feel about the news about Reid's headaches.
I would like to be able to feel enthusiastic about it, but right now I find it hard.
It was implied that his headaches were stress related (even if it was not confirmed). So what are they going to do about it now ?
"Concluding" the storyline might be Reid simply acknowledging that his headaches were linked to stress and that he now feels better... Or we might have Reid mentioning consults with a therapist (with maybe a scene or two). Either way, I don't see the point, they'll never have the time to dwell on that kind of storyline and they will just let it go quickly. As a Reid fan I would like to see something more interesting for him in the next season. I'll really feel cheated if that's the best they can come up with for Reid.
But if there's a real twist and the reason of his headaches is completely different (not psychosomatic, but organic) then it could lead to something interesting.
Dreis, I'm not excited about the news of Reid's headache storyline. I was hoping that they'd move back into showcasing Reid's magnificent intellect again, not Reid the "Headache Guy" with every other thread discussing whether Reid will have another headache again.
I don't know how I feel about the new Reid spoiler. Okay, I don't like it. I was hoping they would just drop the storyline. Why don't they just give him a break? I mean, why does he always have to be the damsel in distress. Why not Rossi? Everyone except him has had their fair share of suffering. Anyway, he currently doesn't have a contract beyond season7. What if they use this headache thing to write him off if CBS don't decide to renew? I will be livid :'( Oh well, we'll just have to wait and watch! Thanks for all the astrology info guys! I'm obsessed! If anyone cares MGG's moon is in Sagittarius, which happens to be my sun sign, and my chinese element is metal too! Although, I'm a sheep/goat. I think I'm astrologically compatible with him, being a cancer moon. It's tough to be governed by so heavily by two signs of opposite elements. Can make on indecisive. I speak from experience :(
This is why he cannot leave the show. Who else can pull of stuff like that, chasing down a car, jumping into the water without a second thought to save that woman's life. Pulling her from the car, swimming with her back to the surface, then does CPR and brings her back to life.
He literally was a hero Wednesday night, in the biggest possible way. How on earth could the show do away with someone like that?
I was reading the EW spoilers page, and it has an interesting section on what the show is going to do about Reid's headaches:
"There’s much more to the story about Dr. Reid’s headaches…except you won’t find out until next season, according to EP Erica Messer. “That’s something that we’re talking to Matthew [Gray Gubler] about and the writers are all trying to figure out what stories we’ve dropped. Honestly, that storyline, that whole idea behind that, started before we lost A.J. [Cook] and Paget [Brewster]. There was a chance that we were fearing to lose Matthew just because of contract negotiations, and that storyline kind of got implanted and then never truly paid off in this season, but we want to sort of conclude that next season. That’s the plan.” Thank goodness the Gubler told me he’s all set for next season and excited about it. Can you imagine a Gube-less CM? Hells to the no! This team is magic!"
So, the show was afraid of losing MGG and created this storyline in case his return was in jeopardy. Bet the paranoia is still there considering that's what exactly happened to AJ Cook and Paget Brewster (though the former is coming back) and currently now with TG and SM. Talk about tempting fate.
MGG"s potential departure was expected, but no one saw last year's double dismissal. Man, Criminal Minds is a cursed show.
Not cursed at all. Long-running and still very successful show. Just made some bad decisions last year. Decisions which are being rectified with AJ's return, TG and SM's impending renewals, PB's possible return, and Messer at the helm. Back on track! Yay CBS!
I don't know about Reid. In my opinion he's the most unrealistic character on the show, by far. And the writers use him to be lazy. Sometimes it seems like Reid gains some new superpower every week, whenever the writers need him to explain something.
Like, how many photos are there in the dark room? Oh, thanks Reid. I guess you're the freaking Rain Man now, huh?
Reid is a prodigious savant without the accompanying handicaps. People like him do not exist, and if they did they certainly would not be doing a job like Reid's.
I don't think the show is cursed, there has just been what I think have been some very poor decisions with respect to the show. The fact that they have signed AJ back onto the show, the possibility of Paget coming back, and what hopefully seems to be a firm committment from Erica Messer to tweak the writing (hopefully back to the style of earlier seasons) is something to be hopeful about I think. The lack of contracts for TG and SM is nerve wrecking, but, contract negotiations due take some time to sort out. I am hoping that the network learned from the blunders it made with AJ and Paget and that they don't repeat the same mistakes this time around with TG or SM.
Getting the team back that CBS dismantled would be a great and hopeful start to season 7!
I too hoped that they would focus on Reid's intellect. I don't know what they have in mind, but I have the feeling I'm going to be disappointed.
I don't mind Reid angst at all, but I'm afraid this story will once again go nowhere.
After the disappointing way they treated it this season, I had moved on.
I was interested at first (when the spoilers about Reid's secret leaked). But the story went nowhere, there was no physical explanation apparently, and we were left with a 'it's just stress'. I moved on and hoped for a better Reid storyline in the future.
So, I'm hoping that :
1) the story will be interesting and will give us much more than 'Reid is just stressed'. It could give us another explanation and good team interactions, especially between Hotch and Reid;
2) or, if it's really just stress, that Reid will simply say he's feeling better. That way we can have a good Reid storyline that will focus on his intellect. I hope the writers will let Reid's genius mind shine in the seventh season. He's truly a one in a billion genius, and too often his intelligence is completely wasted. I hope the writers will highlight the character's uniqueness and how invaluable he's to the team.
I find it far more disturbing that MGG was a possible axing along with AJ last season than I find any continued or discontinued headache storyline with Reid's character..
WTH is the matter with TPTB? I hope Erica is carrying a big stick to wield off the boneheads that try to mess things up any further.
No disrespect. But lots of honesty:) Just who can you trust??
I'm outta here for now. Feeling let down which doesn't feel good after being on such a high yesterday.
To the anonymous reviewer : the show is consistent concerning Reid's abilities.
He has always been good with Math since he's a scientist (he has 3 PhD : mathematics, engineering, and chemistry), can read 20 000 words per minute, graduated high school at 12, has an eidetic memory and a very analytical mind...all of those traits were there since the very first episode.
It's not the first time we saw Reid solving puzzles in his head (he resolved crosswords puzzle in his head in season one, and we know he can do advanced math in his head).
Him counting the number of pictures was perfectly normal. But, he's not invincible and can't do everything, he's not superman. We saw quite often his difficulties, physically and socially.
That sort of counting is not "math," it is a savant ability to immediately discern the exact number of objects in a space. To my knowledge, Reid has not had this ability in the past.
And we have not seen any "physical or social disabilities," really. He's skinny and unathletic, and for a while he had that stupid haircut, but MGG is a model. His clothes and hair these days have been quite fashionable, in a hipster sort of way. And he has occasionally been "socially awkward," but only when the writers want to be cute about it. When needed, he drops that shtick pretty quick.
Again, it's not even a case of "1 in a billion." It's a case of this sort of person not even existing, ever.
Samantha said... "I don't think I'd be going out on a limb here by saying that a good majority of the fans love Emily Prentiss, and while hoping all the best for her pilot, would love to see her back at CM as a regular come season 7 and beyond. For me, there is just no competition (not that one is being made or should be made) between Prentiss and Seaver. Prentiss is just the tops! She's skilled, experienced, funny, witty, sarcastic, protective, fierce, smart, I could go on for days. There is something missing there without Prentiss that I'm sorry Seaver has no chance in hell in filling for me, and I'd suspect other people. The same goes for me with JJ who I am over the moon is coming back for season 7!"
If we could get Hotch (give Gibson a contract already), Morgan (give Moore a contract already), Prentiss, JJ, Rossi, Reid, and Garcia back for season 7, wow, that would be awesome! That team had a lot of energy, chemistry, experience, skill, wit, just everything! They were the best team going. Shame on CBS for tearing them apart. I hope they are actively seeking to put together what they tore apart."
Samantha, you're not going out on a limb. I strongly agree with your position about Paget. She is sorely missed by the majority of CM fans and most hope for her return.
We all wish her well with her pilot and want for her what she wants for herself; but she would be welcomed back to CM with open arms; and most of us want her desperately to return. There's is no comparison between Prentiss and Seaver; and I would love to see a return to last season's team.
I might be in the minority here, but I'm actually pleased that Reid's headaches are being picked up for next season. I would like a better resolution than this season, but also because I have a theory what the headaches might lead to--I really do believe Reid is going to have a breakdown in the future. I'm taking Julio's words to heart that "there are ghosts in [Reid's] head and it is splitting."
I looked the symptoms of a nervous breakdown and headaches are one of the symptoms. Considering that Reid suffered the loss of two teammates, and all the crap he's dealt with in his life and his job, it's gonna take a toll on him, with his eidetic memory.
Sooner or later, Reid's bottled up emotions are going to spill explosively. I think there were signs of it in the episodes succeeding "Lauren".
By breakdown, I don't mean one that will debilitate him to a mental hospital--rather an emotional release to cleanse his soul. Until proved otherwise, that's what I'm going to stick with.
From the moment Reid enters the room with the pictures to the moment he tells Morgan how many they are, about 50 seconds have passed (and Reid doesn't do anything else during that time, he's extremely focused on the pictures). So, this is not unrealistic in my opinion.
And it's nothing new, his ability to completely focus and concentrate (to the point where he can forget what's going on around him) is a big part of his personality.
There have been cases of people having skills similar to Reid's, and they weren't necessarily suffering from a handicap.
I really don't want Reid to go through a mental breakdown. I really hope that's not what they have planned.
That story looked promising at first, but the end of 'Corazon' was a real downer.
A developed storyline focusing on Reid's intellectual capacities would be so much more satisfying in my opinion. His intellect is sometimes taken for granted and the writers should dwell more on that.
I think the only way the writers could actually concentrate on the very difficult and very serious business of writing would be when the backstage idiocy died down. Really, how can you hope to pursue a thread, a serious story arc, when you don't know if the characters are coming back? It's just ridiculous. That's why they have resorted to tricks now to keep everyone happy, and don't get me wrong it has been a lot of fun on this thread for 'into the light', for all the good reasons, and that is wonderful! But we cannot forget the underlying tensions with regard to contracts, whether Paget's coming back, and now how long Matthew is contemplating being on the show, etc. I cannot and will not imagine a Reid-less Minds, as much as i cannot imagine one without Morgan and Hotch. If only they stopped with the shenanigans and got back to the complex, dark and engaging storytelling, we wouldn't have the lazy unsub stories with cookies re the main characters thrown in to draw people in. No matter whether you're a good shemaritan or a gooblegum or part of the desperately seeking dimples brigade, you know all of that equals diddly squat if the writing continues to deteriorate. But but and also [:-D] i'm gonna stay happy till i can. Taking a deep breath, SF..., and walking away.
Eleven, I think you hit on something very important. It is extremely difficult for writers to properly plan out storylines when so much is in flux. I believed it when Erica said that she was getting grey hairs with all the uncertainity that is swirling around her. Chief among those concerns are TG and SM's contracts and whether Paget will be coming back to the show, which I desperately hope that she will. Erica's in a challenging position as showrunner for CM. I think she is up for the challenge but it would be nice if ABC Studios and CBS could be in her corner by providing her the stability that is necessary for her to do the best job she can as CM's new showrunner. This begins with securing contracts for TG and SM and by doing everything humanely possible to get Paget back. Did I mention how desperately I want Paget to return to CM? I will follow Paget wherever she may land, I'm just hoping that it will be CM.
Wow, it seemed like so long ago that pilots were in the air. I want Paget to return, but I will be happy for her pilot gets picked up and will watch it.
They are now using tropes - thinking more about moments rather than about continuity. Bear with me a moment - i am going somewhere with this (i hope). You know when you are thinking about a story and you have a checklist: Morgan the hero (check), smiling Hotch (check), Rossi the interrogator (check), Bond-like underwater scene (check). Then you connect the dots but with focusing so much on these moments, you literally just tack on a 'chronos' to fit these moments somehow. what suffers is continuity, internal narrative logic and integrity to the reality of this palimpsest universe. Eg, and people here have pointed this out, just to have Interrogator Rossi, they forgot to really differentiate his technique from that of the policeman (sorry i didn't get his name - but all the mumbling under his breath was classic!) - they couldn't really justify Hotch wanting him off the interrogation. And Morgan couldn't get the unsub to let go of the girl's leg under water? Not even with Hotch there? Did he need to shoot the guy? Between the two of them they couldn't break one hand? I get that the scene was a whole lotta fun, but they COULD have made it more realistic. Or the unsub needed to have a gun in HIS hand to make it clear and present danger. Even the half of the pair of scissors had floated down somewhere. Maybe one of you has an explanation and i have missed something? Plus, did someone call the unsub from the restaurant to get him so worked up about enacting his end game? Listen, Hotch, i love you and all, but next time ask for a person of interest QUIETLY, please? Everyone in the resto doesn't need to know whom you're looking for. Apologies for what possibly has been a lot of mumbling under my breath :-)
It's ok Eleven, just let it all out. ;) I agree that this season has been very sensationalist. Not much depth in the profiling, plots, or anything. You described it perfectly I think when you say there are a few "moments" they want to touch on and everything in between is just a means to connect those "dots" or moments somehow.
Although I do have to say, all those exciting and smiley Hotch moments were greatly enjoyed by all Hotch fans. My twitter feed practically blew up with "aww", "omg", "HOTch", etc. etc. :oD
Heh, Diane, problem is some of the 'sensationalist' stuff actually works on weak human beings like me. It worked i tell ya. My hubs had to remind me to collect my lower jaw from the floor after 't-shirt and jeans' scene at the end and re-attach it. I promptly went back to my second season of Dalziel & Pascoe to give my pulse rate time to get back to normal (and healthy).
And here i was thinking i had a UHP (Unique Hotch Problem)LOL - hasn't been solved in almost 7 years. Ambrosia after a 7-year itch, eh? Hotch got an eleven on his own scale, so me is happy. Attaboy.
Yeah, well, eleven is not my age - i wouldn't display the symptoms of UHP if i were (well at least i would hope so!!)- inability to think clearly or at all, inability to keep jaws together, slow and pleasurable erosion of brain cells, pangs of guilt while looking at pics of Mrs Gibson and Mr Eleven at times, inability to form coherenet sentences....
@Diane, Eleven and all HOTch sisters: You are not alone. I'm still pretty icoherent too from watching His Royal Tielessness...:))
Great episode, wonderful team interaction, very good case - not the best ever profiling-wise, but what the plot might've lacked in profiling it was more than compensated for with suspense, great character moments from everybody, subtle humor, awesome old-school classic CM teamwork, and some great memorable surprise moments off-work.
And I highly enjoyed the underwater scene. Who cares for down-to-earth realism - it was greatly directed, aptly photographed and our guys were uber-cool...what's not to love...
And all of this resulted in this nice upbeat thread, right?! :))
Now stop messing with TG's and SM's contracts - WE NEED THEM!

I'm with you in the minority then as I'm really glad to hear they are going to be continuing with this storyline next year. Reid's headache storyline was the only thing that kept me watching this year and it annoyed me no end when it seemed to just fizzle out. I too thought that the headache storyline was heading towards a breakdown situation for Reid.
Reid is a prodigious savant without the accompanying handicaps.
Reid has a fairly large list of accompanying handicaps. It's too much to put in a comment, so I put them at my journal. I linked it here once before, but I'll link it again: here.

People like him do not exist, and if they did they certainly would not be doing a job like Reid's.
Examples of real-life mental calculators, savants, synesthesatics, eidetic memories, historical geniuses are all over the place (apparently I can't link to Wikipedia, so just search those words there - the lists are pretty extensive). I could go on and on and on with other people with Reid-like abilities. You'll note, each individual trait shares characteristics with *other* traits - hence why so many people who have one trait have a great many other ones as well - just like Reid. Which actually makes Reid a fairly typical example of his stereotype.
While yes, no one probably has Reid's qualities EXACTLY, there's a reason a TON of people comment on how they see themselves in Reid (especially on the ASD boards). Reid fits his stereotype pretty well, but is - like everyone else - his own unique individual with his own unique combination of traits. TBH, Reid's a pretty typical example of ASD (particularly Asperger's) - assuming that's what he has. It's called "spectrum" for a reason.
Reid's exact combination (and number) of skills may be rare, but not impossible nor unrealistic.

That sort of counting is not "math," it is a savant ability to immediately discern the exact number of objects in a space. To my knowledge, Reid has not had this ability in the past.
It actually is math, as it's a lightning fast ability to count, probably helped by some sort of synesthesia- and yes, Reid has shown it before. Just to name two, he's told the exact weekday of a date from decades ago, and has listed down to the minute how long he's been at his job. Most recently he counted the stab wounds on a victim during the schizophrenic episode. Two real-life examples areCharles and George Finn, the Calendar Twins who also could count matches like Rainman did toothpicks. Reid can read fast, so it's not out of the realm he can add fast too.
Also, it's neither rare nor unheard of for people who struggle with reading social cues to actually work in careers that require the knowledge - since they spend so much time on reading others, they tend to be better at it (when focusing specifically on the task - like Reid). Actors, sales, etc. It's pretty logical Reid's in his field, although I would agree he'd probably be more naturally comfortable in a profession that doesn't require as much interaction. I don't think he'd feel as challenged though. Math based careers are probably to him something he doesn't even have to blink an eye at. The social and abstract aspects of profiling though, he'd actually have to work out (like why he likes philosophy - "it's not black and white"). Reid likes challenges.
I don't want Reid to have a breakdown or anything. I just want the headache storyline gone! They've been dragging it since god knows when. As someone pointed out above, at first, I too was excited about it, I wrecked my brain speculating all that could be wrong with him. And we got nothing conclusive. When I finally made my peace with it, I read that spoiler. And now it'll suddenly pop back up next season? That's a downer for me, because I too, like many others want them to focus on his brilliant intellectual capabilities, instead of always painting him as a victim. And the skeptic in me can't help but wonder if they'll use this as an excuse to write him out should they decide not to pick up his contract. If MGG decides to move on of his own accord, I will understand and support him, but they better not mess around with him. This may sound shallow, but after they butchered the cast, and the quality of writing sort of dropped, I only continued watching because of Reid. I most definitely won't watch a Reidless CM, regardless of who else is there. To the Anon who said that people like Reid don't exist - I actually just recently read an article about a 12yr old boy genius prodigy. His name escapes me now. But the the stuff I read was uncanny. I thought to myself, "oh my gosh, this boy is a mini Reid!" So yeah, Reid maybe one in a billion, but he most definitely isn't the only one. And I don't think any of his haircuts were stupid. Granted, the season1 haircut was a bit nerdy, but I still liked it.
Bluesunflower, I love reading your posts. Most of them are so informative, and I always get a new insight into Reid. I've also learned many about many things I was unaware of like ASD, for example, from your posts. Thanks for taking the time to do such extensive research. I really appreciate it :)
And Morgan couldn't get the unsub to let go of the girl's leg under water? Not even with Hotch there? Did he need to shoot the guy? Between the two of them they couldn't break one hand?
The guy's window was closed. I don't think Hotch could get to the guy any other way except to try to shoot him through the glass.
I wouldn't get overly excited over the Reid headach thing. The showrunners are known for talking up a good story and never delivering. During her chat the dropped storylines subject was brought up so it was probably fresh in her mind so she probably thought, "hey, I'll make sound like this is something we've really been planning on cleaning up". I mean come on, what contract negotiations was MGG involved in that would've made her think he might be leaving. His contract isn't up until next season. Anyway......time will tell, but I learned a long time ago, to have some fun with the showrunners comments, but don't spend too much time dwelling on their plans for the characters because they rarely ever come to fruition........Season of Secrets anyone? They seem to be really good a talking a big game, but when it comes time to deliver it just never seems to happen.
This is from Deadline Hollywood on the upcoming pilot season.
On the comedy side, the star-studded EMILY SPIVEY pilot has finally been delivered and we're awaiting word on how it has been received. (Not that that's relevant as this pilot has to a disaster not to go.) From the others, the two chick comedies, UNTITLED WHITNEY CUMMINGS and CHelsea Handler's ARE YOU THERE VODKA still look good, along with BENT, UNTITLED DAN GOOR and UNTITLED KARI LIZER, while word is that LOVELIVES, BRAVE NEW WORLD and MY LIFE AS AN EXPERIMENT don't look that good.
I mean come on, what contract negotiations was MGG involved in that would've made her think he might be leaving.
While MGG's contract isn't up until the end of next season, he apparently *is* currently in negotiations - otherwise we wouldn't know he's asking for a raise. And just because MGG has a contract, doesn't mean CBS wouldn't dismiss him if they could find good reason; or if he asked to be released.
Granted, it would be stupid of CBS to find ways to get rid of inarguably one of the most popular actors on the show, but then again, CBS is known for making stupid decisions. And MGG wants to do directing. It's entirely possible his quote "It's not a bad thing to want to leave after five years" wasn't about Paget, like we all assumed.
Bluesunflower, actually I love all of them, especially the Seaver ones :D! But I'm staying off the Seaver subject for now. I already said what I needed to earlier. Uhhh...why is she still there :/
So I may sound like a horrible person for saying this, but a part of me rejoiced when I read that "My Life As An Experiment" doesn't look good. I love Paget and want the best for her, I really do, and if MLAAE does get picked up I will no doubt watch it. But I desperately want her back on CM. It's like she belongs there. Same with AJ. They're the missing pieces. With AJ back, one part of the picture will be filled, Paget returning would make the picture complete. I hope CBS beg her to come back. I need her to come back :(
I wouldn't count out the pilot just yet. Things in the land of pilots tend to change furiously at the last minute, at this point, I'd say there is no certainity except for maybe the Chelsea Handler comedy pilot and the comedy pilot from Christina Applegate that Lorne Michaels is Executive Producing. If those two don't go through, I'd be stunned. However, I think the playing field is still open at NBC. There is new management at NBC that is seeking to revamp the network to get it up and running again.
I very badly want Paget to come back!!!! I want her there with AJ, Garcia and the guys come season 7, I just think it is too early to say what is going to happen with regard to whether Paget's pilot, if it will get picked up and/or if she wants to return.
NITEANJL - I don't think the teacher was actually involved, as far as abducting, torturing, and killing them. He may have been developing the pictures for the unsub, which is wrong and creepy in itself.. but I'm not sure that he ever had actual contact with the victims.
Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. That's just my take on it.
And you, as well as some others have said, that he must have been involved because the unsub had a partner based on the fact that he was texting someone saying "oh my god, so much fun", when we found out later on that it was the unsub texting the victims parents. Remember Hotch reading the texts from the parent's phone, and showing how the wording and abbreviations had changed?
Overall, a decent episode. Hope next week's will be even better.
BellaRN, I saw it again last night and remembered that the teacher said that he developed pictures for the people in the town. I think he said something like he was the only game in town, something like that. I think he was developing film that the unsub brought him, enjoying the pictures a bit too much. If he weren't a creep himself, the unsub would have been reported as soon as the connection would have been made between the missing girl and the girl in the picture. Also, with Seaver looking at the picture at the end, I don't think it was some insight, I think she was creeped out at the pictures themselves. The girls were all blonde and in her age range, and after speaking with some of the families, it must have had some effect making the connection between the photographs and the families behind the subjects of those photographs. Like putting a name and personality behind the victim's photograph. The cut to the teacher I think was just an extension of highlighting the picture itself against the person that took the picture, not necessarily a situation of something else going on. There is no doubt that the teacher is a creep, but I think his creepiness lies in being a , whether that be through peepholes or developed pictures. Those are my thoughts after watching it again.
Oh, so My Life as an Experiment doesn't have a strong chance of getting picked up? I don't know what to say to that--I do feel a little sad for Paget Brewster, but I'm mostly anticipating her return to Criminal Minds, if she chooses to do so. If she does return, I don't want her to immediately return first episode of season 7--wait a few episodes, like about five, to integrate her back in.
There is something on my mind though--if Prentiss comes, would the show bring back Doyle, since it was never determined what happened to him? I'm only throwing it out as something to discuss.
You can't just take the wikipedia list of symptoms and then selectively take examples to illustrate them. You could diagnose anyone that way. You have to look at him as a whole. Reid's got his quirks, but so does everyone else in the world. "Everyone's normal until you get to know them," or so they say.
The truth is that Reid has qualities that make him an exceptional savant, and any accompanying "disabilities" have never really gone beyond fairly normal things.
Savants like Reid (eidetic memory, Rain Man-like counting, etc.) are that way because there is something basically wrong with their brain. I have not ever seen anyone with Reid's abilities that does not also have some very visible disabilities. And I'm not just talking about some piano prodigy, I'm talking more specifically about the eidetic memory combined with other similar abilities. If you have an example of a real-life Reid, I would be more than happy to retract.
I think the other Anonymous is right in that we can't really count any pilot out at this point, although, I sooooooooooo want Paget to return!!!!!!!!
If she comes back (Please come back Paget!!!), then I think Doyle may crop up again but maybe not so soon, maybe during sweeps, or maybe a season 7 cliffhanger. Prentiss will probably appear on screen, but maybe not so quickly back on the Quantico scene, but 5 episodes may be a bit much to wait depending upon how many episodes get ordered for next season. I would like to see maybe some stuff about what she has been doing, how she has been living. Has she been in contact with JJ or Hotch during this time? I'm thinking there would also be some bridge episode where the team is told of her being alive. I'm not sure if this should be prior to her actually coming back to Quantico, VA, or maybe she appears, not sure. The main thing is that I want her back!!!!!! She just has to be there with Hotch, Morgan, JJ, Rossi, Reid, and Garcia.
Okay, Five episodes may be too long, but I do think there should be some space between JJ's return, and Prentiss's possible return, to have the BAU team gauge the fact that Prentiss might return (that they were misled when they were told Prentiss "died").
I thought this episode was a good blend of character and case. The unsub was decidedly creepy and the case shudder worthy, but I enjoyed seeing the team in full on hero mode. It was good to see the team initially target the wrong individual, because you don’t always get the guy the first time out. It would have been nice if the promos didn’t show that, so there would have been some question if the guy was guilty or not. However, I liked the profiling that narrowed down the actual unsub based off Talbot’s associations, church membership and the deduction that the glass fragments and heavy metal was from stained glass work. The last scene with Talbot was VERY creepy, as I came to the conclusion that he did know what was going on and the unsub was taking pictures of the victims and sending them to Talbot for development and his own personal enjoyment. You know Talbot will cross over into actual unsub territory eventually when the fantasies from his photographs prove to not be enough anymore.
The character interactions were good this episode. I loved to see Reid in his medical profiling mode, and use his gentle nature to establish rapport with the victim. I liked seeing Reid and Morgan paired together for profiling Talbot’s house. Morgan was definitely the hero in this episode by diving in to rescue Marcy. Though Hotch certainly showed what he was made of by killing the unsub underwater. That’s pretty badass. I really liked Hotch and Rossi’s interaction in this episode, because it showed their more personal connection. The opening and closing scenes between the two were especially nice as Rossi was encouraging Hotch to coach Jack’s soccer team, and then becoming his co-coach at the end. I never really imagined Rossi as a kid guy, but maybe he would be everybody’s favorite uncle.
Yes, there should be some space. I am hoping that in between that space we get to see a little bit of how Prentiss has been living, where she's been, what she's been doing. I really hope she comes back and it is imperative that Hotch and Morgan be there as well. No contract games with Gibson and Moore CBS, both of these men have served you well all of these years and must come back to the show.
What a great episode... The teamwork from the cast was really good. Seaver was great in this one. Its gonna be interesting seeing this character developing.

Anonymous: I am in agreement with you about the teacher after watching it a second time. I think he is just a major peeper/creeper who is living vicariously thru seeing the unsub's pics. He did say he developed photos for all in town that "hadn't gone digital." Plus, I find it hard to believe that Seaver would pick up on something that the more experienced team members would miss. And I don't think the writers want any more unfinished storylines at this late date - they've got the headache story to wrap up! Heck, that could take a while, dealing with the Prentiss did she/or didn't she die, who knows, Hotch's role with Strauss' extra work load, I'm on overload just thinking about it all; it's too much.
I have no doubt they are working on "fixing" it all - heck, it's all over the media, all of our b--ching here, but they must prioritize and concentrate on what's really important and also what works.
I'm still ticked off about the ref that MGG might have been booted: cannot even FATHOM that - AJ and PB's terminations were HUGE to swallow; losing MGG maybe in addition to or instead of one of the girls: Geez. Maybe they let him direct Mosley Lane and PB's finale as a consolation prize since they know that's where his interests lie.
Must go get more coffee, pump myself up to get some work done so I can take Mo Day OFF-OFF for real. Will keep playing music, tho' They are playing "Give Me Something (to hold onto" by Scars on 45 right now. Lovin' it.
Karen: Where are you, girl? Did you ever get any info about getting a soundtrack of CM music? Pls LMK, 'K?
And Eleven: you are really on a high, GF. (Last nite? UK?) I'd ask if you've been hitting the Patrone, but we're saving that for the finale...it is just visions of a well-jeaned Hotch? LOL. Whatever gets us thru, right?
Hey gubegirl, Sorry I've been super busy this week! I sent out a few emails but have only gotten one response that was not really helpful. I'll keep you updated! I'm about to head to work now so I'll be back to check in later!
Karen: good to hear you're still on the scene! LMK what you find out - I am just way too pressed with so many other projects to put any more into this if it's not a viable possibility.
BTW, was there any music in the new epi Wed nite or was it orig CM orchestrated? Don't remember that AT ALL-hmmm? Meanwhile the music on this week's "The Killing" was great.
BTW, was there any music in the new epi Wed nite or was it orig CM orchestrated?
The Spencer Davis Group's "Gimme Some Lovin" (or as someone else called it..."old music"- LOL) was playing at the end of the episode during the soccer game scene.
sf81387 said... The Spencer Davis Group's "Gimme Some Lovin" (or as someone else called it..."old music"- LOL) was playing at the end of the episode during the soccer game scene.
And "The Big Bang" by Rock Mafia while the girls where driving during the flashback scene in the middle of the episode.
Yes! That's right! I did not watch the epi thru to the end the 2nd time and do remember "Gimme some Lovin" from Wed, nite and was so tickled to hear it (70's I think?) Oops. let's not date ourselves...but hey, if thy're British, I am SO there...:)
It was feel-good-happy music for such a light hearted moment that the ending was, don't you think? Rare for our dark CM.
Must have had abit too much wine that nite to have forgotten it so quickly... TY sf81387 and Maria!
That's a good sign. I hope they use more estab music instead of trying to come up with their own. Wonder if any of that is a cost-savings measure or for some other reason?
Wow! Just ck'ed and Gimme some Lovin was from 1966! Yowza! and written by Steve and brother Miff Winwood, no less, along with Spencer Davis. Cool, very cool.
Don't you wish you had something worth singing/playing/writing/repeating 45 years later? I surely do...she mutters as she heads back to the laundry room...
From Deadline: Brewster is not the only Criminal Minds cast member whose return to the show next season is uncertain at the moment. The deals for stars Thomas Gibson and Shemar Moore are up at the end of this season and I hear the two are nowhere near new pacts. Matthew Gray Gubler and Joe Mantegna have another year on their contracts, though I hear Gubler has been seeking a salary bump.
This was the first and only official place saying anything about MGG asking for a bump in salary. I haven't seen it anywhere else.
So I'm siding with sf81387, this is just another excused for another dropped storyline and another promise I'm not holding my breath to, because I've learned better from experience with this show.
Let's just drop this whole headache story line and get back to awesome, classic genius Reid, please. Awesome, classic genius Reid is so much better than angst ridden headache Reid.
Seaver coming into her own in this episode is not something I would say is true. She stood there like an idiot staring at wind chimes while Hotch runs to the barn.
I would suggest you reread my comment(s), as that's exactly what I did.
If you have an example of a real-life Reid, I would be more than happy to retract.
Already been pointed out to you, I just couldn't make the exact links - although I did link to my journal post. So it's not really my fault if you refuse to do a bit of research yourself. A great many specific people are listed, like Kim Peek, John Padgett, etc etc. Heyya even mentioned a recent 12 year old just like Reid. Your point though seems to be we need to find an exact copy of Reid - which won't happen. So I guess, yes, using THAT insanely narrow and completely unrealistic definition, there's no one in the real-life world like him. He doesn't have an identical twin.
Too bad that's not the way this works though. So yes, Reid *is* a realistic person, since there are so many people just like him - and people even comment how much they identify with him. There may not be many like him, but they ARE out there.
This was the first and only official place saying anything about MGG asking for a bump in salary. I haven't seen it anywhere else.
The report was written by Nellie Andreeva at Deadline.com. She's also the former TV editor at The Hollywood Reporter. Both sites are recognized industry insiders, and it's a known fact Nellie's sources are actually in the industry. They actually have more clout than the entertainment sites like TVGuide, EW, TVLine, etc. If she says she hears MGG is asking for a raise, then MGG is asking for a raise. Nellie will probably be the first to announce TG and SM's contracts. She was the first to report both Paget's and AJ's new contracts, as well as Paget's casting in her new pilot.
Seaver did not find the shed she saw the wind chimes and being the bump on a log that she is just stared at them. It was Hotch who noticed the shed and being the action man that he is ran toward the shed. Seaver just stood there looking at the mesmerizing wind chimes. Could she see a cow in them? If she actually took her attention away from the wind chimes she should have run toward the shed. NO she did not she just stood there being as useless as she normally is.
Gubegirl, nope, not in the UK, and not much of a drinker (a bit of Chimay Blue if i am really happy). Minds makes me high, what can i say. Also, my head hurts with all the speculation. Maybe i'm going to stay off the internet for a while, if i can. MGG, TG, SM, PB - that's just too much drama for my little head.
aww, take heart Eleven. I'm sure it will all be sorted out soon. Hopefully CBS understands what a great team they have and will make sure TG, PB, SM and MGG all make it back. Come on, CBS! xD
Upfronts are when the networks unveil their schedules for the next season, so that advertisers can know where to spend their money. The networks are placing their cards on the table upfront, and the advertisers then in a way place their bets.
They always happen in the middle/end of May. NBC's is on May 16th, so that's the final deadline for a decision as to whether or not NBC will pick up Paget's pilot. Decisions sometimes can be made even up to the last minute. CBS looks like theirs is May 18th.
I think that Belinda and Anonymous are brilliant for coming up with the Prentiss re-entry. Yes, I totally agree. Would def be nice to wait a couple of episodes in before the rest of the team find out that Prentiss is not really dead. Would be so much fun to see Hotch and AJ throwing furtive glances and seeing what Prentiss has been up to. Excellent ideas!! Would love to see this on my TV screen!!
As for the Reid headache storyline, I am very surprised they brought it back. I thought the idea was intriguing but it was so unsatisfactorily "resolved" this season. But to bring it back up again next season?? Just, LOL I don't get it. Oh well.
CBS: We want Hotch!!! Please renew TG and SM soon. k thx. xD
If MGG gets his raise before Thomas and Shemar get their contracts than their is something wrong with this world.
Gube's contract isn't up until the end of next season. So no, he won't get his raise before Thomas and Shemar get their new contracts.
Having said that, an article just came out about advertising popularity and MGG and Kristen actually made a few of the charts. Kristen in particular, scored high as an actor you'd want to hire as a spokesperson, since even though she's unknown, the audience likes her. Gube too, but Kristen was ranked 3rd on the list, whereas Gube only 16th.
MGG's E-Score though far exceeded Kristen's though. Gube's = 78 and Kristen = 46. Average of all 6000 actors on the list is 55. I'd be surprised if TG and JM are as high as Gube's, but I would expect the numbers to be be nearer. Funny part was that Gube ranks high likeability with baby-boomers. They'd buy something he hawks long before they'd buy something from Will Smith.
Anonymous said... Fantastic episode. whole team worked,Seaver was awesome in the family scene. She is really coming into her own.
The whole team definitely worked... except Seaver, IMO!
She did her job with the family just like the next officer could. Nope, she didn't even notice the barn. She's still standing there looking clueless when Hotch ran toward it. Apparently, someone forgot to clue her in they're looking for the victim not the wind chime! This's up there with her asking the sherif "What's she running from?".... Talk about 'unique perspective' and 'fresh eyes' indeed! And don't get me started on her sticking her leg up, again, infront of the guys on the plane.... I so want to ignore that but I couldn't :(
Paget has the option to return as a fulltime regular with CM. That means she should appear in every episode. Whether or not she is back with the team from episode one, will be determined by the writers. She could be seen trying to find Doyle in Europe.
However, we should not have to wait for her to make an appearance 5 episodes into the season. If Paget does decide to come back to CM, contractually we should see her doing something in the very first episode, at least that's how I hope it works out.
Wow, I didn't expect people to get so hung up over my proposed number of episodes until Prentiss's reappearance. It was only a number I thought of. If that's too long, maybe 2-3 episodes. I just thought the show might create some space between JJ returning and Prentiss returning as well (if PB chooses to do so).
For Seaver, I don't know how much longer she'll be on the show, but I give her the first 1-2 episodes tops for Season 7 but then she'll be out. That's my prediction (ironically just like JJ this season, though less fanfare due to fandom dislike).
I think people mistakenly thought you meant first 5 eps would be Paget-less. But I think you just meant that the team wouldn't know about Prentiss being alive still for the first 5 eps; that she would still be in the first 5 eps but maybe showing her laying low or hunting down Doyle or something like that.
Anyway, I'm tuckered out. Hasta manana. As the young folk nowadays would say, Peace Out, I gotta bounce, etc etc.
No, I really did mean that there would be no Prentiss at the beginning of season 7. This is more of the composition I have in mind-- First two episodes, no prentiss, but 3 and 4 have her reappear but now with the team, and episode 5 has her returning. That's what I had in mind.
I just don't want an instant reappearance as though nothing happened--Prentiss should be re-integrated in the team more gradually. That's my take on it.
I have absolutely no problem with angst for Reid but I’m not sure picking up the headaches storyline next season will bring anything.
It feels like a case of “too little, too late” and I’m not holding my breath on this one.
Like the others I was really interested by this story at first. But “Corazon” put a big dumper on my enthusiasm. When the doctor found nothing wrong with Reid and told him his symptoms might be psychosomatic I was afraid this story would go nowhere.
I tried to convince myself otherwise at first, I told myself that maybe the doctor missed something, but at some point I accepted it and let it go.
If the ‘plan’ is to confirm that Reid’s problems are stress related I think they should refrain.
Now, maybe they want to keep that story in case there’s a Reid-less season eight (and I really hope it won’t be the case…the Reid-less part that is).
Count me in on those who want to see Reid’s genius side explored. That’s why I love this character so much and, in my opinion, that side of him is not enough highlighted and acknowledged.
Reid’s skills are not unheard of, but it’s still such a rarity (and that’s the understatement of the century)… If they focused on that aspect of the character to make him excel and stand out it could make an awesome storyline.

As a regular, it just means Paget is paid per episode, whether she shows up in it or not (certainly was nice for Josh Jackson of Fringe!). They specified that when word of Rachel's new contract as a regular came out. So it's possible we could go a couple episodes next season before they bring her back, though I'd think they'd tease her in the first, then show her in the second at most - even if it means she doesn't rejoin the team for a few more episodes after that.
Do you know if it's possible to read that article about advertising popularity on line? I know you can't post a link, but I didn't know if you knew the title. I tried a few keywords but didn't find anything.
Pat - I'll see if the title stays: "Sandra Bullock Meets the Quants: How Celebrities Are Ranked for Ad Campaigns". You'll have to click on the pics to see the graphs in greater detail.
I'm getting Emily Prentiss withdrawals, so I would like to see her in each and every season7 episode. That is, of course, if she decides to return, which I hope to god, she does. If she comes back next season, they better make up for all the time she lost this season, and I'm hoping and expecting the same with AJ. As for how long Seaver will last, I honestly wouldn't care if she doesn't make an appearance in season7 at all. Actually, I'm hoping that she goes before season7 airs. They don't need to write out a departure storyline for her, like they did for JJ and Emily, because Seaver is a probationary agent, and as protocol dictates, she should be working in a field office. So just ship her off. And if they must explain her departure then convey it to the audience through Hotch or Rossi. Frankly, if she goes, I'd be more than happy to pretend that she never existed. I still try to do that sometimes. But her stupidity always gets to me.
Hotch at Jack's soccer game was the gayest thing I have ever seen. Usually I cringe every time Jack and Hotch are on screen because it screams phony to me. Hotch being so stoic would suddenly high five and smile so much. This was so out of character for him it made me dislike his character even more.
Please do not cringe. Try to put yourself in his shoes. Do you not remember the convo where Hotch told someone (Rossi, maybe?) how he tried his damnest to give his best to both his job and his personal/home life? Shifting gears can be very hard but I think that is what he is striving to do and I do not find it phone. I find it admitable. I am married to a workahoic and maybe it goes wiht the territory?

Do you remember the very first time Hotch appeared on Criminal Minds? His very first scene on the Pilot episode?

You should go back and rewatch starting with the pilot episode. Hotch isn't always stoic and has always been shown to have a lighter, happier side when he's away from work and with his family. Nothing at all out of character about it.
I didn't find it phony at all. Many people have a work persona, if you will, and a home persona and often they are completely polar. I often think it's the work persona that's the phony one. How many times at work do we long to tell someone off, but we hold our tongue because we're at work? Hotch's work persona is the stoic leader. You can see Hotch's feelings sometimes in his eyes because TG is a brilliant actor, but he quickly covers it and reverts to his stoicism because that's his job.
Anonymous 2,
I also have the urge to scream and throw things at the TV. I like when I watch it the second time because, unless it's a really important part, I can merrily skip over Seaver.
Wow-getting back on after more than 8 hrs and to see the typos I made before running out the door this AM - A-a-g-g-h-h-h!
Obviously I meant "phony" not phone. "admirable" not admitable-HAH! and workaholic not workahoic.
Sorry, guys, again TTF (typing too fast...)
Re: going Seaverless: wish there was a button of my remote that would serve as a "trap door" if you will, so that when I wanted, I could zap her (and only her) into oblivion. Even when she is not saying something foolish, acting or looking inappropriate, she is not only taking up space, but is ADDING NOTHING of substance and I find that wasteful. Both of my time and the remainder of the cast who could be speaking more intelligent, witty or informative/educational lines. JMHO, of course. Don't see it changing anytime soon. If it could, it certainly would have happened by now.

Sorry for the double post. My computer or my fingers or it's Mother's Day and I should be doing Glad I have no important business on the 'puter today 'cause I woulde surely blow it.
Gubegirl: How was your Mother's Day?? Just wanted to let you know that I sent out a few more emails today about the soundtrack. The one I really want to hear back from is CBS Records since they produced the NCIS soundtracks. I feel like they would probably have a good take on things.
If Prentiss does return, I wonder if Ian Doyle will return too, to finish that arc once and for all. "Lauren" never stated exactly what happened to him at the end--was he killed, captured, or escaped? If it's the third option, that's a stronger case for Prentiss to fake her death. Only if Doyle dies will Prentiss actually return. I don't know, I'm just guessing since her pilot is not likely to be picked up.
Emily Prentiss is badass. I would love to see her track down and apprehend Doyle so that she can come back to the team. Sergio the cat misses his mommy!! xD
Karen: Just back from Mo Day dinner. It was YUM-macadamia encrusted halibut. Ready to tune in for The Killing which gets me by when there are no CM reruns on the wkends.
TY so much for fol-up on the soundtrack. Keep me posted and thanks for staying in touch! Have a great nite.
gubegirl: You live on the west coast right? I think it's funny that you're just getting back from dinner while I'm getting ready for bed haha. There are no reruns of CM on there? There's a CM marathon every Sunday on A&E, well with the interuption of Breakout Kings. I've never seen The Killing, is it good? I'm glad you had a great Mother's Day and you have a great night too!
I'm guessing that if Paget does come back they'll have to address the Ian Doyle/Prentiss storyline at least in some fashion. They'll have to explain why they faked her death and that involves the whole Doyle ordeal.
Karen: yes, I am in San Diego. A&E and ion run lots of reruns of CM but we have little lapses. Last nite's ironing needed that distraction of TV to make my work go faster.
I agree about PB returning and nec storyline wrapup. Could see some fallout amonst the group when they learn she's alive (if she is) and why they weren't told. Could have some very interesting after effects.
Off to Jazzercise to great music and work off the dinner so I can finish the leftovers for lunch - hah!
I am a sucker for cats too!! I'm sure Sergio is well cared for. Maybe the neighbour who took care of Sergio while Emily was on a case took him in. Although, for some reason, I almost expected to see Serge running around Hotch's appartment playing with Jack. Jack would certainly be thrilled to have a pet.
When Emily returns (please do, please do, please do) the Doyle issue has to be addressed. Emily's death wouldn't have had to be staged in the first place had Doyle died in "Lauren". He got away and poses a severe threat for Emily and for the team. But I think/hope they won't drag the whole storyline out for too long in Season 7.
I'm late, but I would like to add my two cents to "Out of the Light". Loved the episode. It was almost good old classic CM. Still not perfect, but on the right track. One of the better episodes this season, definitely.
Smiling soccer-dad Hotch makes me swoon. And drool. And faint. Jack is just too cute. The Hotch/Rossi friendship is pure win and I am glad Rossi got included in the whole coaching stuff. For some reason I am more glad for Rossi than for Hotch. :D
THAT SCENE, with Morgan and Hotch in the water, that might become some kind of CM classic, or at least a fan favorite, wasn't exactly realistic, but it was a cool shot (pun intended). I'm so happy Morgan got to save the girl's life. He is a true hero.
The Morgan/Reid scenes were great too. We got some good amount of profiling, a whodunnit case and, yes, I'll say it again: Smiling Hotch. :D
Still not buying Seaver. That's all I'm going to say. That character just doesn't work for me. It's my opinion. No more and no less.
I don't know--I see Sergio more with Reid, if he manages to get over his "Reid Effect." In my opinion, if Reid ever got a pet, it would most likely be a cat, because I can see Reid as a cat person.
Yeah, if Prentiss does come back, I agree that the Ian Doyle subject has to be addressed--if it weren't for him, she wouldn't have faked her death in the first place. At this point, I think he did escape, and he should be brought back to be brought down. That's my take.
What about Garcia having Sergio? I could totally see her having Sergio as some way to still be connected with Prentiss. LOL, and if Prentiss comes back, oh please, pretty please with a million cheeries on top come back Paget!, I could see some sort of comical exchange between Prentiss, Garcia, and Sergio the cat :) Garcia may not want to give him back to Prentiss, LOL
That soccer game at the end of this episode was poorly done. The other kids on the team seemed to be just standing there. The soccer goalie didn't even try to stop the soccer ball when Jack kicked it in the goal. Also when Hotch was yelling to Travis to pass it to Jack well Travis had already done that. Poorly edited and Poor timing.
That is how every little kids soccer game looks. I have home movies of my soccer games and they look exactly the same. It's not going to look like a professional soccer match because they don't have the coordination yet.

I found the entire soccer scene reminiscent of my daughter's pre-school and elementary school soccer matches, right down to the parents forming the triangle for the kids to run through at the end. At that age, the kids are just learning to play together as a team and having fun, the parents are the coaches and referees, so there is no strict adherence to rules.
And believe me, parents, teachers, coaches are always telling kids to make moves that are too late; or the child is going in the wrong the direction; and many are just standing around trying to figure out what they're suppose to be doing. They're little kids. The emphasis is on teamwork and fun, not strategy and rules.
BTW, I hope Sergio is with Jack; there's nothing like the love a child gives a pet.
LunaM: Yes, I think Sergio would be a welcome distraction for little Jack. :)
But I do agree with Anonymous that a cat would be perfect for Reid. They are more independent than dogs and are easier to take care of than dogs. Plus, Reid was pretty crushed about Emily and I think Sergio would help ease his grief. That is, until SHE COMES BACK!! (hopefully!) COME ON PAGET PLEASE COME BACK!!!!!!!!!!!
Ellen: This may sound funny, but I just see Garcia as more likely to "take in" humans than a pet. I don't know why, I just picture that about her. heh.
And I agree with Karen and sdwally, this is a little kids' soccer match, not the World Cup. They're *supposed* to be disorganized. Heh.
Regarding the Reid headache spoiler, I don't know if I really think that a storyline that could not even pan out during a season, should really be extended to the next.
And honestly, I don't want a sick and frail Reid, this isn't season 1 or 2, can't they focus on a grown and strong Reid? Maybe give him a personal life? I wouldn't be against that.
And I gotta say, if the headache storyline was a way for the writers to write Reid out in case Matthew didn't sign up for a new season (still weird reason, since his contract is not up yet and wasn’t this the season of secrets?), and regarding the description for the last episode of this season, I don't know how I feel about the writers making it easy for characters to leave. You see, you don't underuse actors who you want to come back for the next season = TG and you certainly don't leave an open end cliffhanger that could be used by the Network as an excuse to fire actors. Especially not after everything that has been going on with this show. No, you use all of them and make sure to show how important they are to the show.

I'm pretty sure I'm on the right page, since I can see your answer. Either way, 3rd time trying to post this:

We'll know about TG and perhaps SM this week?? Yep, the waiting's going to kill me, but either way I'm happy the writers will get some time to write good stuff with some kind of certainty.
Lola: Are you finished wiping the egg off your face? I could loan you "watch-Hotch/drooling" bib...:) Feel for you GF. That would be what I refer to as the "computer gremlin." He (they?) reside deep within your 'puter and wreak havoc whenever they pls, esp if they are feeling cranky and want to mess with your head. Makes you look and feel really stupid. Isn't enuf that we have to go thru that when we make mistakes of our own, like typing or scrolling too fast? (TTF, STF.)
**Can hardly wait til tomorrow nite. I LOVE NEW. I LOVE GOOD. Last week was so good. Loved it. Already said that...
Am praying and crossing everything on me that TG and SM sign wonderful & bountiful contracts and that we can all rest easy.
Now, just pls comeback to us PB - no illwill toward the new show - we just love you more than Jack and his fans ever will!
And if CBS came back to Karen, and said, "let's have a look at your ideas for a CM soundtrack" that would be the icing on the cake!
We would know that we have been right all along to hang in there and be faithful to this show and all the wonderful people associated with it - including the fandom!
About Paget coming back or not, or more accurately, about the pilot she has shoot:
NBC upfronts is scheduled on May 16, in the morning. If nothing strange happens, they'll announce their fall schedule and even their midseason replacements, which means we will learn if My Life as an Experiment has been picked up to series or not.
If it's not, I think that there will be nothing to prevent Paget to come back to CM.
Concerning Reid (who is my favorite character) I want the writers to focus on what he brings to the team, on his capacities and on his bond with his teammates.
My favorite scenes have always been Reid outsmarting everyone by putting his mind-blowing skills to good use. It’s so rare to have an episode really focusing on that.
If we are going to see the more personal side of the character I would like to see that through his moments with his teammates. I care about Reid’s moments with his teammates because I feel connected to these characters, I care about them.
I hope that Reid will get a storyline focusing on that next season (astounding mind and close bond with his team).
I’m impatient to get news about T.G and S.M‘s contract. Glad to know we will have an answer soon (at least for T.G.) and I pray for good news.
Gubegirl, may i have a bib, too? i think i'm also going to borrow my BFF's Great Dane and his drool. I've losing too much body water (is that a white Polo shirt he's wearing in the next epi??). I mean, 'they' made him look like that in the first place and then 'they' gave him dimples. that's just ... CRUEL. You know i'm thinking that the straw that broke the camel's back. (Am i high again? Maybe, have had three cups of coffe today. Yikes!)
We'll know about Thomas this week. Not sure when we'll know about Shemar but I assume at the same time.
The fact that the blog administrators are calmly saying "we'll know about Thomas this week" without panicking or waging an all out campaign makes me think they already know the outcome.
Elisabeth, I am with you a 100% regarding Reid. Every time I watch one of the older episodes, I long for the Dr. Spencer Reid that blew everyone away with his genius. His contributions in that regard are wonderful! Also, yes, the bonds that Reid shares with Hotch, Rossi, Morgan, JJ, Garcia and Prentiss are unique and wonderful. I think these characters play off one another so well, especially in the context of Reid showcasing his genius.
I too am growing anxious about contracts for TG and SM and am also praying for good news. I really can't imagine the show without these men. I hope ABC Studios and CBS realize that as well. Also, I am anxiously awaiting to hear if Paget will return. I hope all goes well for her with her pilot which I don't think can be counted out at this point, but I want her back on the show. I can't imagine Hotch, Morgan, JJ, Rossi, Garcia and Reid being there without Prentiss, I just can't. Oh dearest Paget, please come back.

Honestly, I'm pretty sure it wasn't my computer selectively hiding my comments from me, especially because they only shown up after I complained about them being deleted (and I could see my message about that and the reply I got about them), so, what gives? Whatever, I guess I should be used to that kind of thing happening here.
Jessica, I comment and joke about the kids playing, but I have to admit, my volleyball team in HS wasn't much better than Jack's soccer team.
Either way, it was a lovely scene and it was good to see that what they promised us, Hotch in a way we never saw before, was really delivered. Personally, I like Hotch serious as the Unit Chief, but it's good to know that he is keeping his promise to Haley and letting Jack see how fun he can be.
I agree with Felicia and Elisabeth re: Reid. Not really interested in seeing the headache storyline again. Reid is so much more than that and has grown so much since S1-S2. I like the idea of exploring his relations with the team than "headache guy".
Janet: LOL, that's funny. :) I too also prefer serious Hotch but agree it is nice to see him in other contexts and yes you are right about that promise to Haley. I had forgotten all about that. Great tie-in! :)
The show is coming back for a seventh season. We'll know about Thomas this week. Not sure when we'll know about Shemar but I assume at the same time.
Thanks for the dates. So this is the week we find out if CBS has learned from their mistakes or not. Fingers crossed for only good news. Honestly, the cast, the crew and even the fans deserve some after this past season.

I've encountered this before, but it never occured to me that something sinister was afoot. Sometimes the page just doesn't refresh properly. It happens. You might try clearing your cache and then logging into the blog again next time it happens or just wait a few minutes and it'll clear itself up. Sometimes it eats them completely though and they never come back. It's eaten my comments before and I'm certain nobody deleted them because they weren't worthy of such an honor. : )
Really enjoyed this episode, a lot more reminiscent of the ‘old’ CM, story line was gritty & thought provoking which I always enjoy, loved the way the episode started and by the time it progressed to the girl running through the forest it had my full & complete attention, the story flowed well, and the profiling was good, as was the connection between the unsubs, the teacher made my skin crawl particularly at the end, and was a nice change that we didn’t know who the unsub was until the latter part of the episode, and being able to profile along with the team. This is something that I have missed this season, I like not knowing the unsub and the work that goes in to profiling and tracking them down.
Absolutely loved the Hotch / Jack scenes & Hotch & Rossi on the plane and at the end, most certainly a welcome change to actually see Hotch lighten up and smiling, he absolutely lights up the screen! love his smile and we even got a laugh … oh and no tie & casual! So nice to see these insights into our special characters and see what makes them tick outside of their always-serious work lives.
Morgan and Reid were priceless and reminiscent of their brotherly camaraderie, I love it when Reid does that with his split second take in of the room he did that with the stab wounds too in With Friends Like These.
Team dynamic was a lot better than we have seen in most S6 episodes, and sore point I know but I’m still not sold on Seaver/RN, just doesn’t work for me and does nothing for the dynamic that we have always had with this ‘family’, but there has been enough said on this topic & why so I will leave it at that.
This episode also brought home how crucial Hotch/TG is to this team & CM and the same goes for Morgan/Shemar, this team and CM will not be what it is today without all of them adding their own unique spin to it.
Spent 15 mins writing a post to find out the thread had to be closed due to the "idot-moron-blog-fails-hard" jerk face.
Wat an a--! Sorry Criminal Minds Fan, I know you must have been forced to do that because you would have been all day tryin to delete their over 100 posts. This person needs to get a life - they must have nothing better than to do.
Looking forward to some Morgan emotion, and yes, Karen, I love Ray LaMontagne. His "Let It Be ME" was played at the end of "JJ." and was so fitting. Great singer but not much ofa talker. Thanks for the heads up - I will DVR it!

«Oldest ‹Older 401 – 561 of 561PS It's bizarre, this site I found. It lists date of birth, place of birth, signs, and guff like that, and then his height, like his height is going to make a difference, put him closer to the planets or something!!!
O la la!! Cancer, Leo, and Tiger? Sensitivity, generosity, and Rowwrrr?? Oh yes please. His lady is one lucky duck!! Oh yes oh yes. :)
Spoilers re: Reid's headaches:
http://www.digitalspy.com/tv/news/a318227/criminal-minds-exec-teases-dr-reid-plot.html
It's wait and see I suppose.
Dreis, I'm not excited about the news of Reid's headache storyline. I was hoping that they'd move back into showcasing Reid's magnificent intellect again, not Reid the "Headache Guy" with every other thread discussing whether Reid will have another headache again.
Oh well.....
I will be livid :'(
Oh well, we'll just have to wait and watch!
I speak from experience :(
I think Reid's birthday is also supposed to be 12th October. I'm not sure, but I think. That would make him and Emily birthday twins! How cool!
I'm pretty sure Morgan is June 6th. Wow...I'm going to stop now.
Morgan's such an amazing hero!! =D
How on earth could the show do away with someone like that?
smh CBS.
Sorry for all my typos. I was typing at lightning speed. Heyya.
Emily and Reid as birthday twins is awfully cute :) I miss you Paget! Please come back!!!
Yay CBS!
Just saw the ep.. Great teamwork from all incl seaver. She is starting to grow on me.
@Felicia,
I too hoped that they would focus on Reid's intellect.
1) the story will be interesting and will give us much more than 'Reid is just stressed'. It could give us another explanation and good team interactions, especially between Hotch and Reid;
To the anonymous reviewer :
the show is consistent concerning Reid's abilities.
To Anonymous,
I just rewatched the scene in 'Out of the Light'.
I thought it was decent episode. I am not use to seeing Hotch out of his suit and smiling so much. But it showed his human side so that was great.
@criminalminds: Criminal Minds: First time guest in the chat room next week. Details soon! Very exciting!!
Who is it? Who hasn't chatted before? Maybe a new writer? Details ASAP por favor!
Totally agree with you Eleven! CBS seriously, renew TG and SM already, get PB back, keep your cast happy, and get some good writing in there please.
I think I know who the guest chat is but I won't spoil it for the CMF people who obviously want to surprise everyone with it. :)
Jessica, if you have inside info then don't spoil it, but if you just have an educated guess feel free to speculate :)
The upfronts are a week from Wednesday.
Wow, it seemed like so long ago that pilots were in the air. I want Paget to return, but I will be happy for her pilot gets picked up and will watch it.
Me too. I want Paget back too.
Weak sorry human beings we are LOL succumbing to their cheap and delish tricks. *sigh*
Don't worry Eleven, we are not alone. LOL. Lots of women turn to jelly at t-shirt and jeans Hotch. Those tricky writers. LOL.
And here i was thinking i had a UHP (Unique Hotch Problem)LOL - hasn't been solved in almost 7 years. Ambrosia after a 7-year itch, eh? Hotch got an eleven on his own scale, so me is happy. Attaboy.
LOL Eleven!

"I might be in the minority here, but I'm actually pleased that Reid's headaches are being picked up for next season. I would like a better resolution than this season, but also because I have a theory what the headaches might lead to--I really do believe Reid is going to have a breakdown in the future. I'm taking Julio's words to heart that "there are ghosts in [Reid's] head and it is splitting."

Anonymous said...
Anonymous said...
I thought to myself, "oh my gosh, this boy is a mini Reid!"
So yeah, Reid maybe one in a billion, but he most definitely isn't the only one.
Heh. "Most of them..." Thanks, heyya. ;D

Blue Sunflower,
You can't just take the wikipedia list of symptoms and then selectively take examples to illustrate them.

Oops, meant to include agmreement with you, too BellaRN re: teacher not likely to be a future unsub.
Hey gubegirl,
Sorry I've been super busy this week!

And "The Big Bang" by Rock Mafia while the girls where driving during the flashback scene in the middle of the episode.
I thought it was a good episode. I liked everybody but Seaver in this episode. Get rid of her she is just so terrible.
Yes! That's right! I did not watch the epi thru to the end the
2nd time and do remember "Gimme some Lovin" from Wed, nite and was so tickled to hear it (70's I think?) Oops. let's not date ourselves...but hey, if thy're British, I am SO there...:)

From Deadline:
Brewster is not the only Criminal Minds cast member whose return to the show next season is uncertain at the moment.
Amy
Let's just drop this whole headache story line and get back to awesome, classic genius Reid, please. Awesome, classic genius Reid is so much better than angst ridden headache Reid.
Fantastic episode. whole team worked,Seaver was awesome in the family scene. She is really coming into her own.
Seaver coming into her own in this episode is not something I would say is true. She stood there like an idiot staring at wind chimes while Hotch runs to the barn.
Well, Seaver was the one who found the shed in the first place, since everyone else was busy looking through the house.
Blue Sunflower,
You have to look at him as a whole.

I can assure you that she WON'T know before we know.
And since the CBS upfronts are a week from this Wed we will know before then.
what's an upfront?
Seaver did not find the shed she saw the wind chimes and being the bump on a log that she is just stared at them. It was Hotch who noticed the shed and being the action man that he is ran toward the shed. Seaver just stood there looking at the mesmerizing wind chimes. Could she see a cow in them? If she actually took her attention away from the wind chimes she should have run toward the shed. NO she did not she just stood there being as useless as she normally is.
If MGG gets his raise before Thomas and Shemar get their contracts than their is something wrong with this world.
Come on, CBS! xD

what's an upfront?
Please renew TG and SM soon. k thx. xD

Anonymous,
I think people mistakenly thought you meant first 5 eps would be Paget-less.

Blue Sunflower,
Do you know if it's possible to read that article about advertising popularity on line?
Anonymous:
Please do not cringe. Try to put yourself in his shoes. Do you not remember the convo where Hotch told someone (Rossi, maybe?) how he tried his damnest to give his best to both his job and his personal/home life? Shifting gears can be very hard but I think that is what he is striving to do and I do not find it phone. I find it admitable. I am married to a workahoic and maybe it goes wiht the territory?

Do you remember the very first time Hotch appeared on Criminal Minds? His very first scene on the Pilot episode?
Watch it again, please!
The episode was very good.
Never saw the teacher being one them i think it is not the last time we are going to see him.
Seaver was also good in this one. She definitely has potential.
Seaver's got potential alright. The potential to either drive fans away or put them to sleep. LOL!
That is your opinion not mine.

You should go back and rewatch starting with the pilot episode. Hotch isn't always stoic and has always been shown to have a lighter, happier side when he's away from work and with his family. Nothing at all out of character about it.
Everytime Seaver is on my screen I scream like a banshee. I always have the urge to throw stuff at my tv.
I got nothing against Seaver. She is quite cool, and developing fine for a new character.
Great episode by the way.
The art teacher might pop up again
Blue Sunflower,
Thank you, found it just fine.
Anonymous,
I didn't find it phony at all.

My computer or my fingers or it's Mother's Day and I should be doing
Glad I have no important business on the 'puter today 'cause I woulde surely blow it.
Gubegirl: How was your Mother's Day?? Just wanted to let you know that I sent out a few more emails today about the soundtrack. The one I really want to hear back from is CBS Records since they produced the NCIS soundtracks. I feel like they would probably have a good take on things.
There's been something that's bugging me for a while--who's taking care of Sergio? Sorry, I'm a total sucker for kitty cats.
I think that Sergio was prolly adopted by Hotch and Jack or adopted by Reid. ;)
I so can't wait to see our team back the way it was. Oh dearest Paget, please return!!!

Seriously, the only thing worse than a kids' soccer game is a kids' baseball game. Or am I wrong and basketball is the worst?

Oh, look. All of the sudden, all three show up at once.
I guess I was wrong all along.
Lola
When do we find out about:
1 - If the show is renewed?
2 - If TG and SM got their contracts?
3 - If Paget is coming back?
Is there a specific date to expect them all or not?
The show is coming back for a seventh season.
We'll know about Thomas this week. Not sure when we'll know about Shemar but I assume at the same time.
We'll know about TG and perhaps SM this week?? Yep, the waiting's going to kill me, but either way I'm happy the writers will get some time to write good stuff with some kind of certainty.
Janet, my son isn't old enough yet to partake in team sports but I can't wait to see it hehehe.
Best of luck to TG, SM and PB. CBS, please get these wonderful people renewed. Thank you.
Lola: Are you finished wiping the egg off your face? I could loan you "watch-Hotch/drooling" bib...:)
Feel for you GF.
Yikes!)
The show is coming back for a seventh season.
We'll know about Thomas this week. Not sure when we'll know about Shemar but I assume at the same time.

Sometimes blogger has a mind of its own and if you don't like it and want to be snippy about it then post your comments someplace else please.
There has been something off technically with the blog today, at least for me anyway. I think it is a technical issue, again, at least on my end.
Yes, please Paget, come back!!!
And good luck to TG and SM!
When do we get a spoiler thread for this week's episode? I'm all a dither. Last week gave me hope for the future.

Late, I have run out of coffee and time!
