Criminal Minds has never been nominated for an Emmy but this evening the show was at least mentioned. Joe Mantegna was introduced as the new star of Criminal Minds. That is the closest we have gotten to actually being recognized by the Academy. On a happy note, Helen Mirren, Simon Mirren's aunt, won an Emmy. Next year is our year. :)
You're right. Next year is CM's year!
ReplyDeleteYes I saw this and was going to email you right away..but as usual you were a step ahead of me. I watched the Red Carpet since 4:00 PM my time just to see if Joe would be interviewed and talk about CM! He was not though.
ReplyDeleteHelen Mirren looked AMAZING tonight. She is on the top of my list. And yes, I really make a list.
Lee
Helen Mirren was amazing. What a tremendous talent! Talent obviously runs in that family.
ReplyDeleteWell we did get to see the "New Star of Criminal Minds" at the event. It would be amazing if we could actually see the show get nominated next year. It would be long overdue.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone else notice that none of the actors of the show besides Mantegna were even at the event? I did not even see them sitting in the audience. You would think they could have at least presented an award. I hope that next year is better for the show. It deserves an award.
ReplyDeleteCriminal Minds in 2008!

It would have been nice, but they were not invited. Joe was nominated for an award, which sadly didn't win=(. BUT It was nice to hear the show mention.
Did anyone else besides me notice that they purposely cut away from part of Sally Fields' anti-war speech? I thought I had imagined it but I also taped it and I played the tape back and it really looks like they cut it.
ReplyDeleteI really can't believe that after the two amazing seasons the show has delivered the Emmy nominators could not find one person or thing on the show to nominate.
Spader winning was a shock to me.
I usually dislike the Emmy Awards show but it was alright tonight. They only went a few minutes over and the comedy was better than usual. I am going to give Ugly Betty a look. The little clips they showed made it look good.
ReplyDeleteIt would be great to see all our actors sitting in the audience and receiving the respect they deserve. They are so great. Our writers are so great.
ReplyDelete"Criminal Minds wins Best Drama Emmy" is a headline I would love to see.
ReplyDeleteThat would be so great Simone! I would love that too and a couple of out actors and writers winning would be icing on that cake.
ReplyDeleteSpader winning did also shock me and Jimmy Smits looked hot tonight.
d. said, It would have been nice, but they were not invited.
ReplyDeleteJimmy Smits wasn't nominated either and he was a presenter who was able to promote his new show, Cane, on the awards show. Why was he invited and none of CM's stars were invited?
You know, they used to do "presenting" in a really fair way. Whoever won the category the year before presented the opposing category they following year. So lets say Jimmy Smits won for Best Supporting Actor on The West Wing in 2006, he would then present Best Supporting Actress in 2007. They stopped doing that a while back and I don't know why.
ReplyDeleteHow they choose presenters now is kind of beyond me.
Lee
Oh and just to be clear Jimmy Smits never won, I was just using him as an example.
ReplyDeleteIt is beyond my abilities to try to figure out how some mindless shows get awards and great reviews and CM which is really so well written gets zilch. Nada. Nothing. I don't even know half of the shows that won awards this evening.
ReplyDeleteObviously quality thinking shows mean nothing to the Emmy voters. Criminal Minds has proven itself over and over again and still it is snubbed. I blame the press for bad mouthing the show.
ReplyDeleteI thought the show tonight sucked. The comedy seemed to bomb most of the time. It was time to see some of the old timers getting awards. I thought the Sopranos would do better than they did. Some of the dresses were really beautiful. That is the part I like the best. Watching to see what the actresses are wearing.
ReplyDeleteIf Kirsten had been there I wonder what she would have worn?!
The show was boring to me and Mantegna was not a highlight. I would have liked it if they had said he was one of the stars of the show and not THE star of the show. Nit Picky I know but it struck me as wrong.
ReplyDeleteI was so glad that America won and Spader was a surprise to me as well. I thought the presenters seemed okay but I want CM people there next time.
I switched over to the game during the show. I thought is was dull and lacked luster.
ReplyDeleteI think studio promotion has a lot to do with who the presenters are -- Jimmy Smits has a new show coming out this fall, and I'm guessing somebody worked really hard to get his face out there.
ReplyDeleteSince CM is such a step-child show with the weird network split, they never seem to get the support from on high that they deserve.
We are fortunate the show was mentioned at all, so we should be happy with this "neutral" publicity. Though we know our entire hard working cast helps make the show what it is, it is rare for an entire ensemble to be recognized, unfortunately. Even with the Sopranos, the "others" in the cast were only occasionally mentioned by name.
ReplyDeleteThe Emmys, as well as most other awards shows are something akin to the high school prom, where the focus is on how everyone is dressed and how they (mis)behave. Very little is about the work-effort. If that were the case the technical award winners would replace many in the parade of young actors on a red carpet IMHO.

ReplyDeleteAgreed. But considering some of those dresses, many might be considered technical achievements themselves! LOL
And yes, I was also put off by the Joe Montegna being "the star" (in an ensemble show) comment, but that's the way Hollywood, and to some extent viewers, think. Somebody's gotta be THE star, whether it makes sense or not.
ReplyDeleteIt's still better than not being mentioned at all. And next year will definately belong to CM!
i would love to see criminal minds get a emmy award for best show and the cast get award also next year,
ReplyDeleteI've read the previous comments and I am still blinded by the insult the show has received two years in a row by not receiving even one nomination.
ReplyDeleteShemar Moore and Thomas Gibson are established stars with long resumes and they are not even invited???????? What the hell is that about?
Even Mandy did not get one and he has enjoyed a huge career so far.
I don't know what the politics are but something just isn't right. I do have to wonder how cbs was able to get Smits there but not anyone from CM.
We've been robbed!!
ReplyDeleteI forgot about the Emmys yesterday. Only saw the end of them. (Saw enough to see Amazing Race win for best reality!) So I didnt see that part.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I saw and was wondering about was that Mariska Hargitay was nominated for leading actress in a comedy. She stars in Law and Order SVU! How is that a comedy! Shouldnt it have been under the drama category, (or is there one?)
Anways I tried hard when I saw the part I did, to catch the CM cast in the audience, but I didnt. :((
It was freaky hearing him refered to as the star of Criminal Minds when I have not even seen him in the first Criminal Minds episode. It was nice hearing the show mentioned. Now we just need them to actually get an award.
ReplyDeleteThe men were really dressed pretty casual when you saw what the women were wearing. I loved the Sopranos but I am one of the idiots who can't figure out what the cut to black was really supposed to mean. It was nice to see them get Best Drama but it would have blown me away to see CM up there instead.
ReplyDeleteHelen Mirren was funny. I would rather have seen Simon up on the stage instead. Fingers crossed for next year.
ReplyDeleteThere is tons of pr work that needs to be done better for the show. It is really the bastard step child of the network. They need to promote the show like they care about it.
ReplyDeleteI turned the show off after the first hour and read a book. It was ultra boring....the show and not the book.
Criminal Minds deserves the recognition.
ReplyDeleteThe show dragged on for what seemed like forever.
ReplyDeleteIf Kirsten went she would wear something unique and Kirsten like. It would be great to see her there.
Hey Love2teach I'm not quite sure what you saw but she was definitely nominated for Lead in a Drama Series..this below comes straight from the Emmy's website.
ReplyDeleteOutstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit • NBC • A Wolf Films Production in association with NBC Universal Television Studio
Mariska Hargitay as Detective Olivia Benson
Mr. Mantegna was permitted a guest. Perhaps he could have helped the show by bringing along Paget, Kirsten or A.J.
ReplyDeleteNext year really needs to be our year. CM is so much better than most of the shows that got awards.
ReplyDeleteHelen Mirren was wonderful. She is such a talented actress. It would be great if she could be a guest star one day on the show.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the Emmys this year. I was surprised that the Sopranos did not win more awards. I loved that show so much and I really thought they would clean up.
The red carpet show was creepy this year. I was shocked that Spader won but his speech was funny. I wish Criminal Minds would win some awards.
ReplyDeleteIt's all politics. CM has always been the show everyone loved to not talk about. It sucks.
ReplyDeleteI really thought Shemar would get one for Profiler, Profiled. He was so great!
