I would have voted for him too. I am looking forward to him joining our cast.
He seems to have the experience and talent to bring gravitas and depth to a character meant to replace Gideon's role in the team. I think he can rise to the occasion and do a fantastic job. Bring it on, writers!!!!1
There were a healthy number of Not Sure votes but that is good because it means that members are keeping an open mind about him. We need to see him in action but my gut feeling is that we are going to like him.
I'm not thrilled but they didn't ask me so I will watch and then figure out if I like it or not. I do think this won't be the show I watch live this season. Not because of him but because I like the sound of another show on at the same time. Plus this I guess. Sorry everyone. Please don't light me on fire but it is the way I feel right now.
I'm shocked that there were so few nos. I would have voted no. I don't like leftovers and he feels like a leftover to me. I know he has an impressive imdb but he wasn't even their third or fourth choice no matter what they are saying now. TV Guide says he was like their bottom of the list guy. Who wants to get excited about that? Not me.
I don't believe that. I think it is exactly what Ed said. They are really happy to have him join the cast. If he is good enough for Ed then I am okie dokie with it.
I read in "the magazine" where they had an interview I think with Ed, and I believe Ed when he says that Joe was ALWAYS there first choice and that the other names thrown out where just people thrown out.
I was more excited about him until I read the bits about his character. He sounds old school and stoogy. That is not reassuring. I think we just go with the flow and support the show and see what happens in the ratings. The first time he is on they will spike because everyone will want to see him but after that we will know what is going to happen to our show.
Jean, I read that too. I think we have to really just give the actor a chance. It is hard to judge someone who hasn't even hit the ground running yet. Lets reserve our judgements until we see what he can do.

Don't mind me, but please, DO NOT listen to what TVGUIDE says. Those people are vultures.
Also: Joe Mantegna was always the first choice, cause Ed Bernero stated so.
Negativity sucks. Watch first, then forumlate an opinion afterwards.
I voted in the poll and I voted for him. First of all I have liked some of his previous work and second because if this is who Ed wants then he has my trust.
I don't think anyone here is saying they are not going to watch the show. I think people just have different levels of excitement over the new actor and there is nothing wrong with that. I would have voted yes.
I was a "not sure" as is my right. I love the show as much as the next person but I want to see the episodes with him in them before I cast a yes vote. Personal opinion on my part.
I'm keeping my expectations low because I don't like hype and I think we all got played with this whole situation. I think they knew Mandy was leaving and this was all a big ratings grab. Sorry and remember no flaming is allowed on Jill's blog. I will watch the show because I enjoy it but there is another group that has made a great case for the fact that all this was a bit too un-hollywood and Mandy now has a full slate of concerts and such. Of course we had Ed and he seemed sincere but like I said they make a good case and they have been around a long time. Much longer than this blog. Too weird. I think the show will be okay.
I've seen the postings from that group. I would say consider the source but that might be considered rude. I can't tell you what to believe but the show is great and you plan on continuing to watch it which is great. Whatever really happened doesn't change the show's appeal so lets all just welcome Joe Mantegna and wish him great success.
I vote to lets see. I agree that there has been a tad much too much hype for a second round draft choice. Saying he was their first choice at this late date doesn't really fly.
Shoulda, coulda, woulda. He is on the show now so everyone needs to just get used to it. It might be good. It is still the same writers. I would have voted no.
I'll vote yes and lets stop the negativity. If you want something to be upset about I would suggest that more recent events are more upseting. Lets just go with the flow on Joe.
I didn't actually get round to voting in this particular poll, but the character outline that I've seen sounds good, and based on what I've now seen of Joe's experience it seems he would be very good in that role. How he fits into the 'team' or how the character changes the dynamics of the team remains to be seen, but as we were not the ones to cast the role, I guess we just have to sit back and watch what unfolds. I don't think they would have cast anyone who was a going to drop them ratings, so I trust their judgement...
I think Joe is a great choice, so I definitely vote YES! I have really liked him in other things I have seen him in over the years. He's a great actor with a lot of appeal.
With regard to his character's description, so far anyway, it's exactly what I had been hoping for.
Personally I don't really care whether he was their first choice or not. Of all the names mentioned by the media as possibly being hired to portray the new character, Joe was my favorite, so even if he wasn't the first one asked, I'm glad he was the one hired.
I voted yes. I think it is going to be a great new start for the show and I am excited about their choice. The rumors from that other site are just rumors. We know better than to believe them!
I vote yes. As for the other side of the conversation I would remind everyone to consider the source of any information you are reading. The integrity varies from place to place.
And a quick piece of my mind if nobody minds. There are some great CM sites on the web but some are not as great. When you are reading something and it sounds strange to you I would ask yourself if there isn't a reason it sounds strange and then use your best judgment.
Bravo Waves! You usually are much more pointed with you messages. Kidding you of course because I agree with you 100%. There are some terrific sites and then there are some that are lacking. People need to use caution and good judgement. It is okay to disagree with other fans but when it becomes a circus then that crosses the line for me.
I truly like Joe Mantegna's previous work and I think he is a wonderful actor. However they came to signing him makes no difference to me. I am just happy it happened and I personally welcome him to our Criminal Minds family.
So I vote yes. Actually I voted in the poll and I did so with pride.
I think Joe Mantegna is a wonderful actor and I would have been happy about watching him in Crminal Minds. However, I just read in TV Guide that his character is going to be a "game hunter". If the producers proceed with that part of his characters profile- I, and many other animal rights activists, will no longer watch this show. It seems a bit contradictory to have someone trying to stop serial killers and yet make his charachter a killer of helpless living creatures.

I voted "not sure" because I want to see the character first.
He's a good choice. I can't wait to see him.
I was happy with the announcement and I am even more happy about him since reading more about his experience. I would have voted yes.

I'm looking forward to his joining the cast in the fifth or sixth episode I think. I've had a good feel about him since Ed announced it.
He's a Chicago guy. You can't go wrong with one of those. I would have voted YES.
There were a healthy number of Not Sure votes but that is good because it means that members are keeping an open mind about him. We need to see him in action but my gut feeling is that we are going to like him.
I'm voting yes too please. Go Joe!
I'm going to go into it with a positive attitude which is easy to do when you have no choice.
Go Joe! Nice numbers.
I think he is going to be great. I think it is a fresh new start.
I would have voted yes or reserving judgement till I see him on the screen. His pedigree is good but lets see him on the show.
He wasn't my first choice or my second but that doesn't mean that he isn't the right choice. I vote yes.
I guess we have to wait and see what it is like with him. The description of the character did not do much for me. I would vote no.

I actually voted in the poll and I voted no. Sorry but I don't like him and I think it was a really bad decision.
I didn't know there was a poll, but I would have voted a big "YES." If Ed chose him, that means he must have something, that we don't see yet.
I think he is a good choice.
One cast member leaving/another one coming in, is not going to stop me from watching this show, no matter what anyone says.
I don't think anyone here is saying they are not going to watch the show. I think people just have different levels of excitement over the new actor and there is nothing wrong with that. I would have voted yes.

I'll vote yes solely on Ed's high recommendation of the man.
I think he will add real flavor to the show. A boost of new energy. I vote yes.
I like having polls in the yahoo group. I lurk for the post part but I always enjoy and participate in the polls. I voted yes.
Yes on Joe.
Night everyone. Way late here.
I would vote yes. You have to give him a chance.

I don't even know what to say to anonymous. I will leave that to greater minds. I like the choice of Mr. Mantegna and I vote yes.

wrong choice. should have been benjamn bratt

I vote ...not sure...but happy to give him the time to prove himself. I am so happy the new season is starting soon. Sick or repeats.
Pencil me in as a yes please.
Yea for me too.

He has my vote. I like him and the character description. My vote is YES.
Yes but I want to see him shine.
I vote yes.
I think I am really going to like him so I am a yes.
I think he is going to be really great and I am happy to have him aboard so a yes for me!
Not sure but sure as heck rooting for him!
He has a hard job ahead of him and I think he is up to the challenge. Count me as a yes.
Give the guy a chance! I am.
Has my vote for yes!
Great choice. Looking forward to seeing him in the middle of season three. It is going to be a great season.
I would vote for him!
He has my vote. I think he is going to blend in really well with the rest of the cast.
Great actor is joining a great show. Sounds like a yes to me.
I vote yes.
Joe seems like a well grounded actor and he doesn't seem to be bringing any baggage with him so I think it is going to be a great new season. Yes!
He looks down to earth and I like him. He gets my yes.
Yes vote from me.
He keeps our vote!
Not happy. We don't need an old-fashioned, cranky, sexist guy like Agent Ryan (from 1.15) on the show.
