CRIMINAL MINDS: ED BERNERO KEEPS US IN THE LOOP.

Dear CM Friends:

Just to keep you all in the loop, there is talk going around that Geena Davis may be the replacement actor. This is not true. She was someone we talked about but we aren't going that way. Still nothing solid to report. We are working our way through some pretty interesting people and we'll let you know as soon as something is definite.

Everyone is doing fine and we are all looking forward now to the future. Thanks again for all the kind words.

Ed Bernero

  1. Ed,

Thank you. There have been so many rumors swirling lately that I tend now not to believe anything unless I hear it from you or from Jill's source at CBS.

  2. Thanks for the update Ed. We will watch the show no matter who you get but this is a really important decision that you are all making and I hope you all take your time. Don't let anyone rush it. Most fans would rather go several episodes with the spot unfilled anyway if truth be told. Even the whole season would be fine with me.

  3. Ed- Once again I would like to thank you for considering us fans. Do we have to have a replacement this season? I really agree with what Jolie said. The media keeps saying we now have a HOLE in our show but the truth is we have 6 GREAT actors on our show. Thomas Gibson, Paget Brewster, Shemar Moore, Matthew G. Gubler. A.J. Cook and our lady Kirsten Vangsness. The can do a season without someone new. I keep reading words like BURDEN, HOLE, SCURRYING in the media articles and I am sorry because you have not asked for our opinions but I hate what is being written and said. It makes it sound like there are 6 lost lambs on the set looking for a leader and lamb and as an avid Thomas Gibson fan for the last decade I think it is crap. He is a truly gifted actor of the highest caliber and there is no way he is looking for someone to lead him through the darkness on the screen. Frankly and I am so sorry for rambling, I don't want someone new right now. Is there any point that anyone but you is going to read what we say and care? Can't the NETWOEK give us time and it only saves them money. We'll replace anyone who stops watching because they only tuned in for Mr. Patinkin with some new fan. They need to have some faith in all of us because we have faith in you and yours.

  4. Man. I REALLY liked Geena Davis though. I think she would have done an amazing job. But it's okay, I'll watch no matter what.

    Thanks again Ed.

  6. No offense to Ms. Davis because she is a fine actress but there are many of us that are not disappointed that you have chosen to go a different way.

You blow me away with your respect and care. Keeping us informed and up to date is not something that happened before you came around. Everytime you address us like this you show us more and more that our show is going to be great this new season. Thank you so much for rebuilding our confidence.

    Thanks again Ed.

Sorry, but she was a HORRIBLE choice! She does not belong in a show like that.

    Get Craig T. Nelson!

  8. Ed,

Thank you for keeping us honestly informed. I bookmarked this blog after following a thread from an interview you gave. We are avid "Criminal Minds" fans. My entire family watches and we will continue to watch no matter who is chosen.

  9. Thanks, Ed.

I read the TV Guide report, but had already decided that I'd believe it when I heard it from Jill and you.

I'm with the other viewers who think several eps with the spot empty would not be a bad thing. We all need time to adjust.

    Thanks for keeping up posted.

  10. It is so great to hear from you that things are okay. From you I believe everything. I have such a hard time believing the press right now. Why is it so seductive to them to talk badly about the show's future! Does it just sell better than the truth?

I'm with Lin. Until I hear it from you or Jill then to me it is all just garbage made to mislead us and frankly an attempt to hurt rather than help. I have lurked here for months and this is my first comment. I felt the need to back away from my shyness in support of you, Jill and the show.

Our show isn't going to be okay. It is going to be great because it has always been great. Why? Because the writers are great. They always have been and they always will be and thank you from the bottom of my heart for hiring all of them.

I would also like to thank you and the powers that be for thinking about me and my fellow students during what was, and remains, a time in hell.

  11. Hey Ed,

It's great that you actually take time from your day to actually think of the fans and keep us updated. I am Jill's "adopted" friend on the blog. She's mentioned me a few times on here.

I've worked on Criminal Minds twice as an extra and I'm actually planning on shadowing Scott David in the casting office real soon. I'm really excited about it. I also have confidence that anyone you pick to be on the show will be great!

    Thanks for everything,

    Kris

  12. Mr. Bernero

Thank you, once again, for keeping us in the loop.

I really think that there shouldn't be such a rush to get a replacement on the show--I think our remaining cast can carry the show and do it well...But I will trust in whatever decision that is made and know that show will only get better. :D

    ReplyDelete
  13. Thank you for keeping us informed. I'm very excited for the new season and I too think the wonderful cast is fully capable of handling the show. I can see why there needs to be a replacement character though and I hope it will be someone just as great as our cast.

It's also so great that you come here and get the truth instead of going elsewhere where they feed you crap.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Mr. Bernero,

Thank you for all you do everyday to produce the show. Thank you to all. Whatever you decide to do about a replacement is okay by me. I watch the show for the stories and I will miss Gideon but that is okay too. Thank you also Sir for taking such good care of our Kirsten. She was the first person ever from the show that commented on this blog and we love her.

  15. I appreciate Mr.B keeping us informed. The show was well-casted from the beginning. I am sure you will find someone appropriate to add to the cast.

  21. Ed,

I think it is wonderful that you think so highly of the fans of CM. My son, Kris Campbell, has worked on the show as an extra and Kris has spoken so highly of the level of professionalism on your set. I always watch the show on a regular basis and it was such a treat when he was on the show. I was so excited for him. I will continue to support CM and am excited about the upcoming season.

  22. Ed,

I would like to address the statements that have been posted about the media. I hope that you know that we do not hold all the media in contempt. It is simply that there is so much misinformation circulating. When we read what you have written it is coming to us first hand and can wrap our heads around it. When we read what the media has to say, whether it is positive or negative, we have to wonder because there are 10 other articles that are circulating at the same time that say something different.

Thank you for keeping us up to date and current. It means so much to all of us fans. Bless you for your loyalty. It shall be repayed ten fold.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Take your time with the casting and whoever you decide to give the job to we will support. But a break would be nice if possible.

We adore you Ed. We love the show. Our love pours out to all of you. Always know that.

And tell our gals Kirsten and Gina to come and visit us soon. They are missed here beyong words.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I have rewritten the words I used to love to hear:

"My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

    with

"My name is Ed Bernero. I killed off my own daughter's character. Prepare to hear the truth from me."

We have faith in all of you. Complete and total faith and we are going to do everything we can do to make sure the show has even higher ratings this season. We trust you and you now know you trust us!

    ReplyDelete
  25. There is not one of the six remaining characters that isn't completely capable to carry an entire episode by themselves. They are stellar as are you.

You say things are fine. Then fine is great with me. Thanks so much.

  26. Mr. Bernero,

    Thank you for the update.

We are going to fly high in the ratings this season.

Unique, interesting and unusual is good. Like the show and the characters who are already on it!

    We will await further news.

  36. Thanks again, Ed, for letting us know what's going on. I'm sure you guys will pick the right person to become a part of the CM family. It's good to hear you guys are doing well under the circumstances and are moving along with filming. I know you guys will make this the best season of the show yet!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ed, once again, thank you for keeping the fans in the loop. You are probably the only producer in TV-dom who is so generous with his time to the fans of his show.

Good luck with casting and know that we will support whoever you choose for the show!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'll add my comment to so many others that are here suggesting that you take your time. I agree that the six actors that now comprise the team will do an amazing job and are not in need of support to guide them through their mission.

I will dearly miss the Hotch/Gideon interaction as those moments on screen were glimpses into each character's past and demons and set them aside as the leaders of the team.

I do not wish to see you make a decision to simply pick someone and 'cookie cutter' them in (if that phaase can be utilized in that fasion) but I am hopeful for continued interaction between Hotch and someone that he can confide in to show us his demons and not to be sexist, but a male is the best choice to have empathy for Hotch's role as a father and husband who is struggling to balance those roles with his career.

I do think Geena Davis is a talented and gifted actress but also am glad she is not part of the direction you are intending to go.

I will continue to watch the show, it is hard for me to believe that one new character will cause me to dislike all the interactions of the other six who are the cornerstone of the show.

Take your time, no hurry, I think the team can do just fine without another profiler and allow all of them to grow stronger as a unit and let's not forget, Gideon may have been the 'best or most respected' profiler, but he wasn't the head of the team, Hotch, as Bureau Chief, was the head of the team.

  39. This is about the most amazing thing I have seen in a very long time. It is wonderful to see you reaching out and respecting the fans of your show like you are doing. I am so impressed. I watched one episode last year but I think you have just convinced me to tune in and watch the show on a regular basis. The article I read was so raw and honest that I didn't truly believe it. I followed the link and am amazed by all I have seen here. You must be the one person in Hollywood who actually knows how to express the truth. Good for you. Great for the fans of your show. If it not acceptable for non members to comment then I will understand if the blog owner deletes my comment.

  40. I love how this blog is a one stop shop for everything Criminal Minds. It always has fun stuff on it, and the news actually comes from people who work on the show, not media rumors.

Can't wait for the 3rd season and to see who the new actor is going to be. Good luck choosing. I know you'll make the right choice.

    Jen

P.S. - I vote for Kris to be in at least one episode. He just seems so adorable!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think they should bring Mary Page Keller as Katherine 'Katie' Cole. She was fantastic. She really fit in with the group and is a wonderful actress.

  42. I am so glad to read that you are all doing fine. That is truly the best news yet.

  43. Ed,

We are counting on the notion that you are giving daily kisses and hugs from all of us to all of the hard working bees over there. We love and support you all and keeping us up to date and well informed is awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Malik is so right. We hope you are conveying our best wishes, love and support to everyone involved with the show and the networks.

If you promise to give the Gube a kiss from me then I promise to find at least 2 new people to watch the show this year. Only kidding. I will help find new fans anyway but if you wanted to kiss him from me and promise not to tell my boyfriend then I could promise maybe three new viewers.

    All kidding aside. Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yes please. Our love, respect, commitment, encouragement and our knowledge that they can do this and do it better than any cast and crew ever could. We know it and please make sure they know we know it. We also know that this must be a hard time for you and our love, support and thanks remain with you Ed today, tomorrow and during the next season.

Our goal is that this time next year the newspapers are running stories with titles like these:

Criminal Minds beat the bump and landed on the top ten list for the entire season.

Criminal Minds fans never gave up and never gave in.

    or my favorite:

Ed Bernero proved that reaching out to fans and telling the truth paid off big for his show. Criminal Minds and CBS showed exactly what they are made of!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Kimberly: I like that. We should do a David Letterman Top 10 List:

Top 10 reasons to watch CM:
    1. Best actors in the business
    2. Best writers anywhere
    3. Best directors on the planet
    4. Gripping episodes
    5. Wonderful quotes and music
    6. Characters you can love
    7. Unsubs you can even love but mostly hate
    8. A fandom full of great new friends
    9. A network that is fan friendly
    10. Because we said so.

Thanks Ed for keeping us so up to date.

  61. I am happy to read that everyone is okay. I would be lying to say that we weren't all worried but your updates chase those feelings away.

    ReplyDelete
  62. It is nice to know that all is returning to a normal atmosphere. I know you are all still scrambling but we are going to be so proud of this season. I am sure that it isn't easy to make a top 20 show each week under the best of circumstances but I think this challenge will prove to be your finest hour. I tell all my friends that no matter what they read in the press the show is going to be even better this year.

Casting have done an absolutely superb job so far, so we can be confident that whatever is decided and whoever is selected it will be the best for the show as a whole.

  77. Anxious to see the program without Mandy. Perhaps, another player isn't all that necessary? Would be happy to see more of the existing team, anyway.

Mr.B, you sound as angry as SM!

gtg...working today...Ah, shucks, maybe I won't go. Hummm, I'm a nurse. I wonder how my patients will be affected if I don't show up because I have "creative differences" with the hospital?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Thanks for keeping us informed.

But with that said - I really wish we could somehow just keep the team of six as is, at least for a while. At this point I suppose all I can hope for is that the newbie arrives a ways into the season and is eased in slowly.

We know next to nothing about the female characters on this show -- out of 45 episodes, we've had *one* that was truly JJ-centric (North Mammon) and *one* that was truly Prentiss-centric (Honor Among Thieves) -- and now I'm supposed to care about some new (and in my opinion unnecessary) character sucking up air time and potentially also taking up a good chunk of what little character-based content the show has? I mean no disrespect (I love this show) but it's frustrating.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Thanks Ed for the update.

  101. Its fantastic that the fans are kept up to speed. Thanks
I don't think CM necessarily needs a replacement for Gideon. It may mess with the dynamics of the show. However if it is decided to bring in a new member i think the character would have to be an experienced agent like Gideon that can give guidance etc a 'father figure' for the rest of the team. I don't think another female agent would be the way to go.
