CRIMINAL MINDS: SAYING GOODBYE TO MATTHEW & A.J. TILL TOMORROW.

Criminal Minds Travel Diary: Day One: The picture above of Matthew Gray Gubler and myself was taken earlier in the morning while he was still shooting scenes of "Ashes and Dust". I have a wonderful stash of pictures of Matthew from that morning that I will post one day when we need a Gube fix. At this point in our day Matthew and A.J. were finished for the day and left the set. Shemar went back to the set for what was suppossed to be one line (hah) and Thomas Gibson had come into Craft Services for less than ten minutes to eat some lunch before he headed right back onto the set. I was having a great day. "A" and I went upstairs to talk to some of the Directors and Producers while we waited for Kirsten to arrive. I was introduced to Producer Charles Carroll. He is a very funny and nice man. He asked me what my favorite and least favorite episodes had been and an assortment of other questions. I told him that I had definate ideas on how the rest of the season was going to play itself out and he tried to unspoil me. It didn't work but he tried. All of the people I met asked questions trying to gauge fan reaction to certain things and Mr. Carroll was no different. Unfortunately he had a gentleman already in his office when we walked in because I would have enjoyed more time with him. I also met Oanh Ly who wrote "Distress". She was very nice. It was always nice to have a chance to meet one of the writers. They always appreciated hearing what you thought about their shows. After being introduced to a few more of the staff we headed back downstairs to watch them shoot and to wait for Kirsten. :)

  4. Meeting the stars was wonderful but the best part was meeting the directors, writers and the behind the scenes pros. :)

  5. If you visit them again would you sneak me in your suitcase please!

  6. Did you get a chance to talk with Thomas? It sounds like it would be a lot of fun to meet the writers, just to pick their brains a little, but that's the journalist in me.
    Can't wait for more posts!

  10. You should have tied him up and kept him there! How could you have let him leave!

  11. If I were to say I needed a Gube fix on a daily basis, would you oblige????

  12. Such a great picture of you two! Just the wardrobe change turns MGG into our beloved Dr. Reid! Amazing!

Quentin wonders if Dr. Reid keeps treats in his holster along with his gun. I tell him treats wouldn't stop a criminal, but he thinks that's totally ridiculous. They'd stop to eat the treats! (Now he wants to be a writer since they're so cool.)

  14. Wow, what awesome pictures. You are soo lucky to have had the chance to go there and meet all those amazing people. How did you manage that? Please explain...I'd really love to know!

  15. Jill,

I can see why that would be the best part. The stars are talented and hard-working and do a fantastic job, but this show is obviously a labor of love for a lot of people, and they are phenomenal in terms of getting so much right that I find it more than a little awe-inspiring.

I'm always impressed by the storytelling risks they take, the look of the show, and the way it manages to look at so many sides of any story. Not to mention how much more accurate they are in terms of procedure (the sort of time lapse effect notwithstanding) than any of the alleged "procedurals" I've seen. (Admittedly, I don't watch them all, but I've seen my share, and this is the one that keeps me coming back.)

They blow me away on a regular basis.

  16. I have so much respect for writers in general and especially the CM writers. They really produce for us week after week on such a grand scale. But I also have been loving reading about the actors and seeing these lovely pics. Thanks.

  17. I do not know how you worked up the courage to talk directly to any of them. I am a professional woman who speaks infront of groups everyday and I would have been unable to say a word! Good for you.

  18. Yes, all of those wonderful under-recognized folks in the background deserve their appreciation as well. After all, they are in effect creating what it is that we watch, we owe it to them to give them a kind word too.

  19. Elizabeth_Bear - I know what you mean about the writers. The more I watch this show (and talk about it with other fans) there more layers and subtleties there are to notice. Added to this is the courage to take risks with the story telling, tease the audience and create such believable, complex characters.

So I agree, spending time talking to the writers would be fascinating.

  20. The actors have nothing to say without the writers. What is it that they say about the printed page?

  21. I had hoped you had stolen him away for us in your suitcase. :(

  22. Nice to know they care what we think.

  27. As much as i love Kirsten, I hope to see much more of MGG during your trip diary. His smile just lights up the whole room.

  28. Look at Reid with that gun! At least its in the holster. "Its like he's got something in his hands that he should never have" lol. Thats one of the funniest parts of the Documentaries, him with the gun scenes.
