CRIMINAL MINDS: PROFILER, PROFILED

On December 13th CBS will air "Profiler, Profiled" which is definately a Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) episode. "Morgan is arrested as a serial killer after he goes home to Chicago to see his family. Because the detective making the arrest had used a profile provided by Gideon after after studying the case, the teams travels to Chicago to free Morgan and to find the real serial killer"....according to cbs.com. This sounds like it is going to be a great episode. I can envision Gideon (Mandy Patinkin) full of angst over making the profile and Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gubler) in full mode to help his friend. I can't even imagine Garcia's (Kirsten Vangsness) reaction to this storyline. Can't wait to see the episode. :)

CRIMINAL MINDS: QUOTES USED IN TONIGHT'S EPISODE:

""Between the desire and the spasm, between the potency and the existence, between the essence and the descent, falls the shadow. This is the way the world ends." T.S. Eliot

"This is the way the world ends, not with a bang, but a whimper."
T. S. Eliot

I love the quotes used on Criminal Minds.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MANDY PATINKIN.

I hope Mandy Patinkin has a wonderful birthday celebration with his wife, sons and friends. :)

CRIMINAL MINDS IS ON TV TONIGHT. YEAH!

Now that we have had our formal introduction to Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster) it should be interesting to see how team dynamics are this evening. Is she going to fit in well with the rest of the BAU unit? Will Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) and Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin) get past the fact that she was forced into the unit without consulting them? How will she get along with the other ladies in the unit? Will J.J. (A.J. Cook) and Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) work as well with her as they do each other? What about Morgan (Shemar Moore) and Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gubler)? Questions, questions, and more questions but there are only 7 hours until we hopefully get some answers. :)

CRIMINAL MINDS: SMALL BUT NICE ARTICLE.

Criminal Minds forges ahead

The Mandy Patinkin-led crimefighters of Criminal Minds surged to their highest-ever viewership figures on CBS this past Wednesday.
The episode rang up 17.9 million viewers and led in the adults 25-54 demographic, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Criminal Minds had tussled earlier in the season with ABC's Lost and gradually gained ground on the castaway adventure-mystery.

Lost has gone on a 13-week break, and its replacement - the Groundhog Day-like Day Break starring Taye Diggs as a detective who relives the same day over and over again - has been faring poorly.

Day Break's latest episode just pulled in 4.7 million viewers, which the trade newspaper noted was 40% down from its previous average.

CRIMINAL MINDS: KIRSTEN VANGSNESS AKA PENELOPE GARCIA

I love the character of Penelope Garcia on Criminal Minds. Kirsten Vangsness does such a splendid job of bringing this character to life. I wish we had more scenes with Garcia in them. Her scenes with Derek Morgan played by Shemar Moore are incredible. :)

Criminal Minds: Thomas Gibson as Aaron Hotchner.

Thomas Gibson does a wonderful job portraying Aaron Hotchner on Criminal Minds. This man gets better looking with age. He was a cutie pie when he was on Chicago Hope but I think he is even better looking now. :)

MATTHEW GRAY GUBLER INTERVIEW

Q&A with Matthew Gray Gubler
Sunday, November 26, 2006
By Rob Owen, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Matthew Gray Gubler

Actor Matthew Gray Gubler, who plays socially awkward but brilliant special agent Dr. Spencer Reid on CBS's "Criminal Minds" (9 p.m. Wednesday), visited Pittsburgh earlier this month to promote the series. In a conference room at KDKA-TV, Gubler, who's also a filmmaker, added artistic designs to the show's first-season boxed set that will go to winners of a call-in contest on "Pittsburgh Today Live." The DVD ($58.99, Paramount Home Video) is in stores Tuesday.

A self-deprecating guy, Gubler, 26, told "Pittsburgh Today Live" host Kristine Sorensen his pre-acting modeling gigs were confined to a period when models who looked like "emaciated weirdos who look like Muppets" were in vogue.

Q: Which Muppet do you most identify with?

A: I look a little like Beaker. I think I'm a cross between Beaker and The Count. My hair looks like Oscar the Grouch. It's Muppety hair.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Does it bother you that your competition on ABC, "Lost," gets more media love than "Criminal Minds"?
A: It's weird, it doesn't [bother me]. It should and I think it bothers some of my compatriots. I'm honored with the fact that we do incredible numbers and we're beating "Lost," but, how to express this? I'm happy the people watching our show are the real people. I feel like "Lost" is a New York-L.A. show, and firemen and nurses and real Americans stop me on the street. That means more to me than some dumb celebrity magazine.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: "Criminal Minds" started to beat "Lost" in the ratings in recent weeks. Any guesses as to why?
A: I know why, I don't have to guess. The nature of storytelling, since the dawn of man, has a beginning, a middle and an end. No one wants to hear a story, "I saw a tiger coming at me and then it lunged." [Gubler goes silent for a few seconds.] That's not interesting to me. Our show has a definite three-act structure.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Why did Dr. Reid start wearing glasses recently?
A: I was allergic to contact lens solution and wasn't able to wear my contacts. Those are my real glasses. Half the people think they're great and the other half think they're the ugliest they've ever seen and say, "You look like a nerd." I think they fit the character. Someone described it as a 1960s accountant look. It's the new black, I read in Vogue.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Why did Lola Glaudini leave the show?
A: I think she was unhappy in L.A. Being on a TV show is incredibly daunting. It's not like a movie where you're [in one place] for six months. This is nine months. I think she wanted to be in New York and do more theater.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: On the new "Criminal Minds" DVD, you say you prefer to wear mismatched socks because when you wore matching socks, you sprained your ankle. What are you wearing today?
A: Carnival-style animals on one sock and stripes on the other.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Does your "Criminal Minds" character wear matching socks?
A: He does not. Some directors have tried to get it in there, but it's been unsuccessful so far. ... There's no continuity to the socks, which may be why the socks haven't made it into the show.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: On the DVD special features you mention the dark circles under your eyes and your aversion to having makeup applied to hide this Dark Eye Syndrome. Have you started a nonprofit to raise money for research to end this disorder?
A: It's really a travesty and affects a lot of us, especially in the entertainment business: Bob Dylan, Gwen Stefani. Jeff Goldblum has a pretty bad case. Martin Scorsese has the worst case of Dark Eye Syndrome. Hopefully we can beat this together. We're making progress collecting for the kids.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: On the DVD you say it's not the result of late-night partying.
A: I am embarrassingly 1920s in style. I like to be in bed at 11, and I like to get 11 hours of sleep. I've been to three parties in my life and two of them with [co-star] Shemar [Moore]. He's slowly trying to wean me into [that scene.]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: On your Web site, www.matthewgraygubler.com, you hand write news about your life and career. Did you never learn to type?
A: I just like to make it more intimate and real. I don't like technique. I would rather see a scarecrow that a farmer spent a week making for himself than go to MoMA [Museum of Modern Art] and see some masterfully-drawn art. ...

And with the Internet it's getting eerie in the lack of humanity and being able to fake someone's MySpace [page]. I wanted something nobody would fake.
---------------------------------------------------
Q: You not only star in a CBS crime drama, you're also in a handful of videos on YouTube.com playing a pirate ("Temptation Island 2"), a dancing fool ("Boyztown") and a vain version of yourself ("Matthew Gray Gubler: An Unauthorized Documentary").
A: There's more to come on that last one. We have all this time on the set, and I'm a big fan of improv-based shows like "Curb Your Enthusiasm." So I said, let's make a documentary about me acting like the people I see or hear about who I hate. Certain actors get under my skin, so we started filming these episodes. One of the guys on the show, Andy Swan, the prop master, he's amazing at capturing things with telephoto.

We've got tremendous stuff in store for that. I want to do an episode were I pitch [the "Criminal Minds" executive producer a story for] an episode of the show and he wants to fire me. Everyone is somehow willing to be in [these shorts]. I'm more excited about that than the shows. On "Criminal Minds" we're dealing with 17 million people watching every week, and we're checking YouTube every two hours to see how many people have watched this dumb documentary.

GREAT RATINGS NEWS FOR CRIMINAL MINDS

CBS Dominates Wednesday
Thanksgiving Eve ratings not even close
November 23, 2006

Melina Kanakaredes and Gary Sinise on 'CSI: NY'Fast National ratings for Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006

On the night before Thanksgiving, ratings were down some across the board -- except at CBS, whose crime dramas supplied typically strong numbers and helped the Eye rule the night.

CBS averaged an 8.6 rating/15 share in primetime, pretty much in line with what it's been doing on Wednesdays all season. The same can't be said for everyone else: ABC was a distant second at 3.8/7, just ahead of NBC, 3.7/6, and FOX, 3.6/6. The CW came in at 2.3/4.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, CBS led the way with a 3.6 rating. FOX, 2.2, took second, and NBC, 2.0, held off ABC, 1.8, for third. The CW averaged 1.5.

"Jericho" led off the night for CBS with a 6.2/11 at 8 p.m. The time-period premiere of "Show Me the Money," 5.2/9, put ABC in second. FOX was third with a showing of the movie "Cheaper by the Dozen." NBC's special "Madonna: The Confessions Tour Live" didn't generate much heat, drawing only a 3.3/5. "America's Next Top Model" clocked in with a 2.7/4 on The CW.

CBS increased its lead at 9 p.m. with "Criminal Minds," the night's top-rated show at 10.3/17. "Cheaper by the Dozen" posted a 3.7/6 for FOX. ABC's "Day Break" took a big tumble from its premiere last week, managing only a 3.4/6. The Madonna special on NBC dipped slightly and finished fourth. The CW's "One Tree Hill" drew a 1.8/3.

"CSI: NY," 9.7/16, finished the CBS sweep of the night at 10 p.m. "Medium" earned a 4.8/9 for NBC, while ABC's "The Nine" also slumped, coming in at 2.8/5.

A GAME OF CHESS WITH JASON GIDEON.

On "Criminal Minds" we often see Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin) playing chess with Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Gideon always wins. This week we also saw the beginning of a chess game between Gideon and the new kid in the BAU, Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster). In your opinion who won the game?

CRIMINAL MINDS: MANDY PATINKIN USA TODAY INTERVIEW

FBI profiler inspires actor
Updated 11/21/2006 11:32 PM ET
By Bill Keveney, USA TODAY

CULVER CITY, Calif. — Jim Clemente keeps a picture in his wallet of a boy he helped save as a member of the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit.
It reminds him of why he does his job. It reminds the actors on CBS' Criminal Minds of the real people they portray.

MIND OF A ' CRIMINAL': Criminal Minds hits its stride

"I saw that he carries this picture with him wherever he goes, and that the saving of these children is what his life is all about," says Mandy Patinkin, who became friends with Clemente during research for his role as BAU profiler Jason Gideon.

Through Patinkin, Clemente established a bond with others connected to the show, providing informal advice about profiling and the BAU.

Now, in a rare occurrence for an agent still with the FBI, Clemente has written a Minds episode, tonight's "Lessons Learned" (9 ET/PT), in which the agents interrogate a Guantanamo Bay detainee in the hope of stopping an imminent terrorist attack in the USA.

Clemente, 47, says the collaboration works well, creating an accurate picture of the BAU for the public and alerting other law enforcement agencies to its services, particularly in cases in which time is of the essence.

"In one hour, they can reach 15 million people," he says.

While researching at FBI headquarters in Quantico, Va., Patinkin couldn't quite get his hands around his role until he met Clemente, a former prosecutor who has served with the elite BAU since 1998. "It completely set me free in terms of his humanity, his nature, his kindness and concern," Patinkin says. "I pray that when I talk to him, some of it is left behind in me."

The two also had something in common: cancer. Clemente was on leave from the FBI at the time, undergoing treatment for lymphoma. Patinkin provided support, having recovered from his own bout with cancer.

"Mandy has been a great friend," says Clemente, who spoke on set in late October. With his recovery going well, he was scheduled to return to active duty in the BAU.

One tactic Patinkin learned from Clemente, included in an interrogation scene, is that engaging the subject as a human being and listening carefully can yield needed information.

"If you treat the subject with dignity and respect, that's the best way to promote interaction, to make it more likely that he will talk to you," Clemente says.

If the subject responds, profilers can pick up non-verbal clues. In the case of Middle Easterners, for example, dialect or use of certain words can tell investigators where the subject is from.

Clemente says tonight's episode is fiction, written with the advice of his nephew, a film student. In one scene based on real experience, some team members who haven't flown to Guantanamo are thrown off by the "Gitmo twist," a sharp turning maneuver necessary for landing.

Clemente used the episode to honor a BAU friend and colleague, Andrew Bingaman, who died of lymphoma the day Clemente turned in his episode outline. He named a character after Bingaman. "Andy fought cancer and terrorism with unbounded bravery," Clemente says.

A WONDERFUL CRIMINAL MINDS GIFT THAT I RECEIVED.

CRIMINAL MINDS QUOTES FROM "THE LAST WORD"

"Remember that all through history there have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time they seem invincible. But in the end they always fall. Always." Mahatma Gandhi

"If men could only know each other, they would neither idolize nor hate." Elbert Hubbard

I am so glad that the writers decided to go back to having a quote said in both the beginning and ending of each episode. I really missed it for the few episodes that they didn't do it. These quotes were said by Thomas Gibson aka Aaron Hotchner. I especially like the quotes when Mandy Patinkin aka Jason Gideon says them. :)

CRIMINAL MINDS : VARIETY ARTICLE

'Minds' leads CBS' soph surge
Ensemble drama challenges 'Lost' for auds

By RICK KISSELL

While most attention was paid this fall to which first-year shows smoked or choked, it's worth noting that several second-year CBS skeins have blossomed nicely.
No net has discovered more new hits over the past five years than CBS. And no net has done a better job making sure these skeins didn't veer off track.

Credit the Eye's current department for strong soph-season starts for "Criminal Minds," "Ghost Whisperer," "How I Met Your Mother" and "Close to Home."

Contrast this with skeins back for a second fall season on rival nets. While Fox's "Bones" looks solid and is up slightly in some categories, others including NBC's "My Name Is Earl" and Fox's "Prison Break," while remaining hits, have lost a step or two.

For CBS, the biggest standout has been "Criminal Minds," an ensemble drama about an FBI team solving the crimes of serial killers.

After getting trounced by ABC's "Lost" last season, "Criminal Minds" has surged by 23% in adults 18-49 this fall (4.8 rating vs. 3.9) to place a solid second to the Alphabet skein, which is down 13% (6.8 vs. 7.8), according to Nielsen.

"Criminal Minds" has also recently overtaken "Lost" in total viewers -- thanks to an advantage among viewers 50-plus -- with the Eye entry now pulling in 16.8 million. It's recently cracked the weekly top 10 in this category.

Some "Lost" fans have jumped ship this season amid criticisms its mythology asks many more questions than it answers. And CBS was ready to suck them in with "Criminal Minds," another of the net's procedurals that tidy up all loose ends in one episode.

"Criminal Minds" figures to get a chance to grow even more now that "Lost" is off the air until February.

Of course, Fox's "American Idol" will again be the show to beat Wednesdays at 9 come January, but much like "NCIS" on Tuesday, the Eye now appears to have a skein that can more than keep the lights on against tough competish.

On Friday, psychic drama "Ghost Whisperer" has moved to the head of its class at 8 p.m., rising 10% year to year in 18-49 (3.3 vs. 3.0) despite facing tough gameshow competish on NBC.

Its sked companion, lead-out "Close to Home," also has had a good second season. It is down a tick in 18-49 (3.0 vs. 3.1) and up in total viewers, with its 11.5 million making it the night's most popular program.

Credit the smart cast addition of David James Elliott, who previously starred in the same hour for CBS on "JAG."

"Home" also makes for a nice bridge between "Ghost" and the No. 1 show at 10, "Numbers," as CBS has been the clear No. 1 net on Friday.

And on Monday, "How I Met Your Mother" has become one of the few comedy successes on any net in recent years, coming within a tick of its rookie average (3.5 vs. 3.6) despite being asked to anchor the night at 8 after following the popular "King of Queens" at 8:30 last season.

This has increased its value to CBS, because the net can try out new laffers in the higher-watched 8:30 slot, which serves as a hammock between "Mother" and TV's top comedy, "Two and a Half Men" at 9.

Another plus for "Mother" is that it recently has stood as the highest-rated laffer on CBS among adults under 35. Net has been aiming younger in comedy, and "Mother" has struck a chord with the hard-to-reach 18-34 crowd.

This isn't the first time CBS shows gained steam after ho-hum initial seasons. In recent years, "Cold Case," "Without a Trace" and "NCIS," among others, have all hit series highs in their second, third or fourth seasons.

Indeed, when it comes to knowing how to make the most of an asset following its rookie season, the Eye seems to have it over its rivals.

CRIMINAL MINDS: I AM LOVING THIS NEWS!

ABC couldn't keep 'Dancing' all night
By Paul J. Gough

Nov 17, 2006

ABC unquestionably won 8-9 p.m. with the crowning of the winner of "Dancing With The Stars," but it was CBS that was victorious in the last two hours with "Criminal Minds" and "CSI: NY."

The "Dancing With The Stars" finale put up a big number, with Nielsen Media Research estimating 27.2 million viewers tuned in to see former Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith take the prize. It was also the night's top show in adults 18-49, averaging a 7.0 rating/18 share.

But ABC didnt do as well with the two-hour premiere of "Daybreak," which is scheduled to hold the place for "Lost" until the latter drama comes back in February. "Daybreak" averaged 10.5 million viewers and a 3.7/10 in the demo; it dropped from 13.9 million viewers at 9 p.m. to 8.6 million viewers at 10:30 p.m.

It was trounced by "Criminal Minds" (16.6 million, 4.9/13), which has been on a run of late. "Criminal Minds jumped from 15.8 million viewers at 9 p.m. to 17.3 million at 9:30 p.m. The two-hour season premiere of "Medium" couldn't keep pace either, bringing in 9.4 million viewers and a 3.5/9 in the demo.

The 10 p.m. hour was all CBS, with "CSI: NY" (16.3 million viewers, 5.1/14) ahead of the second halves of both "CSI: NY" and "Medium."

Nightly averages: ABC (16.1 million, 4.8/12); CBS (14 million, 4.4/11); NBC (8.4 million, 3.3/8); Fox (6.8 million, 2.5/6); and The CW (4 million, 1.7/4).

MATTHEW GRAY GUBLER INTERVIEW.

CBS star visits Metro State, radio stations
Contributed by: Danielle Dascalos on 11/15/2006

Dr. Spencer Reidfrom CBS' Criminal Minds stops by criminology class

ALICE radio fans as well as KOSI, KRFX and KOOL listeners got a chance to meet Matthew Gray Gubler who portrays Dr. Spencer Reid from the hit CBS showCriminal Mindsover the airwaves this week.

Criminal Mindsrevolves around an elite team of FBI profilers who analyze the country's most twisted criminal minds, anticipating their next moves before they strike again. Special Agent Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) is a classically misunderstood genius whose social IQ is as low as his intellectual IQ is high. He brings his own area of expertise to the table pinpointing predators' motivations and identifying their emotional triggers in the attempt to stop them.

In reality, Gubler, who was born and raised in Las Vegas, is very funny and charismatic. He has appeared in the feature films R.V. and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and is also an accomplished filmmaker. He started his day in Denver visiting several local radio stations. While on ALICE Radio he entertained listeners and took advantage of a hobby he's developed in between takes on the set of Criminal Minds. He drew a sketch of morning show host Howie!

Following his live radio appearances, "Dr. Spencer Reid" met with viewers, clients and community partners at Aviano Coffee Shop then shot station promos at CBS4, KCNC-TV and appeared as a guest on CBS4 News at Noon where he was interviewed by CBS4 Critic-at-Large Greg Moody. "Dr Spencer Reid" ended his day be visiting Dr. Cotton'scriminology class at Metro State College.

CBS's surging sophomore dramaCriminal Mindsis now a top 10 show having just beaten the highly promoted ABC fall finale of Lost. The show airs on CBS4, KCNC-TV on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m.

Criminal Minds: Jason Gideon's office.

When you look at this picture of Jason Gideon's office there is not one personal item in it. It is cluttered but seems bare of personality. I bet if we could see Mandy Patinkin's office it would be very different. I would guess it would scream of his outgoing personality. :)

CRIMINAL MINDS: KIRSTEN VANGSNESS: LOVE THE WAY SHE DRESSES.

Criminal Minds: I love the way Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) dresses on Criminal Minds. The clothing and accessories they have her wear are so retro. The chunky lucite earrings and pins take you back to the 1930s. If you were tuning in to Criminal Minds for the first time and saw the way she dresses you would immediately know that she is a fun and individualistic person. Garcia wears things that most people would never conceive of wearing and pulls it off wonderfully. I would expect nothing less from her since she is after all........our Garcia. The contrast between her style of dress and the clothing worn by Gideon (Mandy Patinkin), Hotchner (Thomas Gibson), Morgan (Shemar Moore), J.J. (A. J. Cook) and even our resident nerd Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) sets her apart from all the rest. She is unique and fresh and it works. :)

Criminal Minds : Aaron Hotchner's Office.

Criminal Minds: Aaron Hotchner's Office. Thomas Gibson portrays the character of Hotchner and does a wonderful job. In season one Hotchner seemed very stern and serious and while he still does in season two we are also getting to see a softer side of him. He even smiles once in awhile now. Great job Thomas. :)

CRIMINAL MINDS: MANDY PATINKIN : SOME OF THE REASONS I ADMIRE HIM.

There are many actors that I see in films and on tv that I find myself immediately attracted to. We all have a hunk or two that we lust over from time to time. My attraction, or fascination might be a better word, with Mandy Patinkin is quite different than that. Besides being a good looking man he is also a talented actor and singer and his moral character is sterling. The devotion he has to his wife of decades and his children is not often seen anymore with actors. His charitable works show me he truly understands the concept of tzedukah. He is a honorable man and that is horribly lacking these days with so many of his professional peers. Mr. Patinkin's role of Jason Gideon in CBS's Criminal Minds is a complex character and he performs it with the brilliance we have come to expect in any project he chooses to participate with.

CRIMINAL MINDS: QUOTE USED IN EMPTY PLANET EPISODE

"Coincidences are a true paradox… on the one hand they seem to be the source of our greatest irrationalities–seeing causal connections when science tells us they aren’t there. On the other hand, some of our greatest feats of scientific discovery depend on coincidences." Josh Tenenbaum

INTERVIEW WITH KIRSTEN VANGSNESS (PENELOPE GARCIA)

An Interview with Kirsten Vangsness (Penelope Garcia, Criminal Minds)
From Rachel Thomas

Many times when we get involved in a series, we forget that the characters we've welcomed into our living rooms each week live completely different lives than what is portrayed on television. I had the fortunate opportunity to chit chat with the very bubbly and incredibly sweet Kirsten Vangsness from the immensely popular CBS series Criminal Minds.

Q: Before you became an actress, you had several interesting jobs (substitute teacher, grant writer), did any of these positions help prepare you for a career in acting?

Kirsten: "I used to be a substitute teacher for quite some time, I was in a group home, and then sometimes I was a teacher for long periods of time. If they didn't have a teacher for a really rough class, I would be the teacher who would come in and teach them. Someone once told me there are two kinds of teachers: The kind who can get the kids to do anything they want by sheer intimidation and then there's the kind that can get them to do anything they want because you don't know what that person is going to do. I was that second kind. I'd walk in the kids would be like, 'She just came in and she's wearing shoes with kitty cats on them, purple-striped nylons and a Sex Pistol t-shirt.' I just pulled out an apple, a grapefruit, a pan, 12 books out of my purse, 14 kinds of lip-gloss and they didn't know what to make of me. There's an element of almost being like right before school when you're going to see these kids, you're setting yourself up to be eaten alive and chewed up and spit out. There was that element, that quickening, meeting all those people coming from different worlds and creating in like 15 minutes, a community."

Q: If you weren't acting, what do you think you'd be doing now?

Kirsten: "I love music, I collect songs. I have a whole cover collection and constantly when people don't even ask me, like Matthew (her co-star), he's one of my CD victims, I'm constantly making him CD's - he doesn't ask me for them, I just come in and tell him these are the best make artists of 1994. I think I'd be a music supervisor, like the people who make stuff for movie soundtracks."

Q: I understand you have very unusual shopping tastes, can you tell us what your favorite items to buy are?

Kirsten: "I like clothes that make me happy! They don't arrive to me like they're supposed to. I'll get something and say to myself, I know this is brand new, but I'm going to cut the neck off, I'm going to slice the side up and sew a different piece of fabric in there. When I was a child, my mother would give me and my sister like $15 apiece, put us into goodwill and tell us to go get our school clothes. If that meant you spent the whole $15 on a pimp daddy fake fur coat, that was your school clothes, which I did do one year. When I was in first grade, I got this fantastic fake fur coat that I wore every day, when it was 80 degrees. Right now, I'm on a crinoline kick, I have way more crinolines that any human being should have."

Q: After speaking with you and Matthew Gray Gubler, I realize you guys must have a blast on the set - is that true and does any of the cast hang out off set?

Kirsten: "Matthew lives like 5 minutes away from me and my theater company is halfway between my house and where he lives. There has been a couple times when I've been out with my friends at some restaurant and I'll look up and say 'Why are you here?' We have a lot of fun, Matthew is so sweet and he knows a lot of really dumb jokes, so we swap a lot of dumb jokes. One of the best things about doing this show is, if someone had said your Doppelganger is a 30 year-old black guy, I would never have believed it. One of my best friends is Shemar now; we get along so well in real life. We hang out with each other, we talk on the phone, we ask each other for advice. It really is fun, everyone is sweet and has their own weirdness about them and when you combine it all, it really is lovely."

Q: Your character is a computer genius, are you as knowledgeable about computers?

Kirsten: "Before I did this show I never had my own computer and I would go to my mom's house and use her PC. I didn't understand any of it and when I got the job I said this is kind of criminal that I don't know about it. So, I asked my friends, who were technical geniuses and they've helped me out so much. Now I'll find myself in a conversation with someone, I'll be talking and saying technical terms about computers and software that I assume are vernacular to everyone. I'm getting better and better at it, I'm a different kind of smart from Garcia."

Q: Where do you feel your character is headed in the coming months?

Kirsten: "That's always a weird question because I'm so surprised by the things they come up with. I love that surprise element where I read a script and I go, 'She does that?' Very rarely do I read a script and think that's not Garcia would do. I love how they inform me and I deal with what they've given me and build from that. I love that she's getting more involved in the group and I think that's a hard thing to do for the writers because she doesn't have the same sensibility as the other six, she's not a crime fighter. She wouldn't carry a gun, she'd carry a taser. I'm excited because she is getting into the field more. I saw the car that Garcia drives last night. We shot a scene where I drive the most amazing car that you ever saw in your life! It's very vintage."

Q: Do you watch anything on television other than your show?

Kirsten: "I love British television a great deal. I'm a little obsessed with Heroes right now. I love The Office and I love cartoons, I'm a big Simpsons freak. I actually collect Mr. Roger's DVDs because I love him so much. I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

Q: I've heard you love doing theater, going forward is your plan to continue performing in both mediums?

Kirsten: "Yeah, that's my first love. Theater is the one thing any actor can do. It's so valuable in our society, it's the first place you see a germ of an idea that starts as a conversation and then gets made into a movie or a television show. It's really accessible to everybody. I'm a member of Theater NOTE in Hollywood. I wish we had bigger audiences; sometimes we have like 8 people in our audience. I'm in a play right now that we do every Christmas at my theater company. It's hard to juggle the two things, I try to make it work. I'm writing a play, I've written a couple of plays before when I couldn't get work as an actor."

Q: What would people be surprised to learn about you?
Kirsten: "I took acting because I was so shy.

Q: Anything you'd like to say to the fans?
Kirsten: "Thank you for watching our experiment. I think it started out as this theory, a nuts and bolts kind of show and it's really spinning into its own little child, it's a toddler now, a crime show toddler. I'd like to thank them for watching it. It keeps getting better, it's so exciting. I'm so lucky to be a part of it all."

AN INTERVIEW WITH MATTHEW GRAY GUBLER

An Interview with Matthew Gray Gubler (Dr. Spencer Reid, Criminal Minds)
From Rachel Thomas,

Many actors really do lead interesting lives outside of work, and then there are truly unique actors like Matthew Gray Gubler who take creativity to the next level. Like his character on the hit CBS series Criminal Minds, Matthew is a brilliantly creative man who uses his intelligence and extraordinary humor to make the world a better place. I had the fortunate opportunity to chat with Matthew about his life, where his character is headed and his plans for the future.

Q: How old were you when you got into acting?

Matthew: "It was really when the show started that I got into it. I did filmmaking and through a roundabout manner, I got into this. I was 25 when the show started."

Q: What do you think you'd be doing today if you weren't acting?

Matthew: "My family and friends sort of chastised me.

They're kind of upset that I'm on the show to be honest because it wasn't what I had set out to do. I would hopefully be directing movies now or writing them."

Q: Your grandparents founded the first radio station in Las Vegas (KENO), did you ever work as a DJ on KENO?

Matthew: "No I didn't, that was way before I was born. My mother was pretty active in it. I think they gave up the station in the mid-60's."

Q: Your web site is quite possibly one of the most unusual places I've ever visited, where did you get the idea for the design?

Matthew: "Oh, thank you so much for finding it, I'm honored! To be honest, the design was born out of not knowing anything about programming and what would be the simplest way of getting information out. I'm not the biggest fan of technique. I wanted to do a simple, honest, hand-written web page."

Q: You've created several short films, going forward do you hope to do more work behind the camera?

Matthew: "Oh definitely. That's what I'm better at doing than anything. I've been fortunate enough with the show that I've been able to work in some time. I did a music video recently. It's what I'll do one day when the show slows down or gets cancelled."

Q: I understand you wear two different socks, what's the significance?

Matthew: "My grandmother told me at a very early age that it was good luck to not wear matching socks, which I've come interpret to as bad luck to wear matching socks because the one time I wore matching socks in ten years was when I was acting in this movie called The Life Aquatic. We were doing a moment where Bill Murray is leading us in exercises and somehow I managed to sprain my ankle on camera. It actually wound up being in the movie. I attribute that entirely to me wearing matching socks."

Q: Tell us about Dr. Spencer Reid.

Matthew: "He's an eccentric genius, with hints of schizophrenia and minor autism, Asperger's Syndrome. Reid is 24, 25 years old with three PH.D.'s and one can't usually achieve that without some form of autism."

Q: What's ahead on Criminal Minds for Spencer?

Matthew: "I've heard some pretty exciting stuff! I've heard I have an archenemy coming up. He's a kid I went to school who is one I.Q. point smarter, a little bit taller, better looking. He lives in New Orleans and plays jazz. They've hinted at shades of schizophrenia with Reid. I know his mother was schizophrenic and he has a fear of going schizophrenic himself. I'd like to think that one day down the line he will go schizophrenic and maybe turn into the type of person they'll chase relentlessly."

Q: How is your personality similar to your character?

Matthew: "He's not too similar. He's a genius and I'm technically and functionally retarded [laughs]. In the show, Reid was sort of hand-picked from college. He's in the FBI, but he didn't strive to achieve that or have any intention of doing that. Gideon (Mandy Patinkin) recruited him and I feel kind of akin to that because I had no real intention of being an actor or being on a show. I've sort of fallen into it. Reid makes the most of it and so do I. It's fun and quite an honor."

Q: How are you different?

Matthew: "He's a PH.D. in physics and mathematics and nobody knows what the third one is and I'm in no way scientifically minded. I think he's way more analytical than I am."

Q: What's ahead for Matthew?

Matthew: "Thanks to the show, I've been drawing and painting a lot because we have a lot of down time on the set and it's the perfect amount of time to make pictures. I've had a few art gallery exhibits and I hope that continues. I hope to direct some more. I just shot a movie with John Malkovich and Tom Hanks that is coming out in April."

Q: Anything you want to say to the fans?

Matthew: "I'm beyond proud and happy - I never imagined I would have one fan, and there seems to be a few. I just couldn't be happier that people seem to like what I'm doing and seem to respond to it. If they weren't there, I don't know what I'd be doing right now."

CRIMINAL MINDS: MANDY PATINKIN, THOMAS GIBSON & TWO EXTRAS.

I think this is one of the funniest pics I have seen yet of Mandy Patinkin and Thomas Gibson. The ladies in the picture with them were extras on Criminal Minds, the Machismo episode. Stacy, a wonderful lady from Livejournal found this picture and shared it with the rest of us. She found it here: http://worldofwonder.net/archives/2006/May/12/confessions_of_a_hollywood_extra.wow
I bet we never get to see Garcia (Kirsten Vangness) or J.J. (A.J. Cook) dressed like this. LOL. :)

CRIMINAL MINDS: NORTH MAMMON EPISODE

screencaps by cattylizzie

CRIMINAL MINDS IS FINALLY GETTING THE PRESS'S ATTENTION.

CBS gets ready for sweeps
Killer series an Eye opener Wednesday
By RICK KISSELL

America's fascination with serial killers seemingly knows no bounds, as CBS drama "Criminal Minds" continues its sophomore surge with series-high scores.
While that show and the Eye's lineup as a whole are looking good heading into sweeps, other nets are springing leaks on Wednesday. NBC's opening-hour comedy combo of "30 Rock" and "Twenty Good Years" finished an embarrassing sixth in their slot, and ABC's "The Nine" is doing very little in the 10 o'clock hour.

Then there's Fox gameshow "The Rich List," which bowed to cancel-me-now ratings at 9 o'clock.

Star of the night was "Criminal Minds" (5.0 rating/12 share in adults 18-49, 16.97 million viewers overall), which notched its best demo delivery to date and outdrew an original episode of ABC's "Lost" (6.6/16, 16.07m) in total viewers for the first time, according to Nielsen estimates.

And while "Lost" still led its hour over the Eye drama in both 18-49 (6.6 to 5.0) and 25-54 (7.5 to 6.4), its advantages were the slimmest to date.

Compared to last season at this point, firstrun segs of "Criminal Minds" on Wednesday are up 18% in 18-49 and 24% in total viewers. "Lost," meanwhile, is down in these categories by 27% and 24%, respectively.

And with "Lost" airing only once during the November sweep (it's being replaced by new drama "Day Break") and "Dancing With the Stars" airing just twice (replaced by quizzer "Show Me the Money"), CBS has a good shot to notch its first Wednesday sweeps demo victory in decades, if ever.

In addition to "Criminal Minds," CBS is also dominating at 10 with "CSI: NY" (5.4/15 in 18-49, 16.64m) and running a solid second at 8 with rookie drama "Jericho" (3.0/8, 9.87m).

Overall through six weeks, the Eye's dramas were up 25% in 18-49 (4.5/12 to 3.6/9) vs. its showing on Wednesdays a year ago, when comedies led off the night.

ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" results show easily led the 8 o'clock hour (4.8/13, 19.22m), with Fox's returning "Bones" placing third (2.7/7, 7.33m).

Fox struck out at 9, though, with "The Rich List" (1.5/4, 4.10m), a new gamer that ran fourth in its timeslot. It was unclear if the net planned to stick with the show, which had been skedded to air on Wednesdays during the sweep.

For the night, ABC held on to win over CBS in adults 18-49 (4.7/13 to 4.5/12), with the nets tying in 25-54 (5.6/14) and the Eye moving ahead in total viewers (14.5 million to 14 million).

CRIMINAL MINDS: GARCIA MAKES IT TO THE ROUND TABLE.

It was so nice to see Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness)sitting at the round table with the rest of the team in this past episode. I really enjoy her character. Her interactions with Morgan (Shemar Moore)and Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) are priceless. I especially enjoy her getting tongue tied when she deals with Gideon (Mandy Patinkin)and the look on Hotchner's (Thomas Gibson) face when he is listening to her answer the phone always brings a smile to my face. Congrats Garcia. You finally made it! The round table will be place with you there. :)
